The Palin qualifications

Writing on his website, which used to be called “New Majority” until he got tired of people laughing at him, David Frum published an essay called “The Palin Fantasy” over the weekend. Even as the House of Representatives was preparing to pass the most blatantly unconstitutional assault on America’s freedom in Congressional history, Frum found something really outrageous to write about: Matthew Continetti’s admiring essay on Sarah Palin’s populist appeal. It’s a good thing Frum has his priorities in order. We wouldn’t want Palin to get into office and drop a few trillion dollars of unsustainable debt on us.

Frum disputes Palin’s populist appeal by citing some poll numbers:

According to Gallup, 63% of Americans say they would never consider voting for her. By a margin of 62%-31% Americans rate Palin “unqualified” to serve as president – by far the worst score for any leading Republican.

In comparison, only 51% of Americans say they would never consider voting for Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee – and a plurality of Americans rate the two as “qualified”: 50-36 say Huckabee is qualified, 49-39 say Romney is qualified.

This is an important point, because poll numbers never change, especially for private citizens who haven’t declared any intention to run for office, three years before the elections. How often to polls have to shift, or produce completely inaccurate numbers, before people stop trying to use them to shape the reality they supposedly measure? A nation looking for confident, visionary leadership is not going to look down and notice David Frum waving a spreadsheet of poll numbers.

I doubt many of the respondents to that Gallup poll could specify exactly what the “qualifications” for the President are. It’s a singular position, with qualifications that change based on current events, and the mood of the electorate. I suspect the electorate of 2012 will be looking for someone who isn’t a “community organizer” with a shady past and zero governing experience, riding a wave of uncritical media adulation and touting an education at elite universities. Palin doesn’t have the only resume that fits the bill, but nobody else’s resume is selling millions of copies at the moment.

Given the difficulty in itemizing the exact “qualifications” for President, and the painfully thin portfolio of the current occupant of the White House, a poll pronouncing the former governor of Alaska “unqualified” is really measuring the effectiveness of crude media caricatures from 2008. Palin isn’t currently running for anything, so people who don’t follow politics closely are left with the afterimage of her savage treatment in the last campaign burned into their memories. That might change when people read her book, and follow her appearances on the book tour, but otherwise I wouldn’t expect much movement in her poll numbers unless she actually tosses her hat in the ring. Why would disengaged voters think of her as anything but a celebrity author until then?

Comparing Palin’s “qualification” ratings to Romney or Huckabee is a little silly, because neither of them took the kind of pounding she did. The Left’s supply of anti-Mormon bigotry remains locked in the toxic waste dump of its soul, where it will remain until Romney looks like he’s going to win the Republican nomination. Huckabee seems to be carefully laying the groundwork for a 2012 run, but right now he could interview live extraterrestrials on his Fox show without pulling a fraction of the sustained media attention Palin continues to receive. Much of this attention is negative, but any principled Republican who thinks he would draw positive media coverage is fantasizing more than the most ardent Palin supporter.

Speaking of fantasies, Frum figures he’s the red pill that will awaken Palin supporters to the hopeless, blasted wasteland of the real world:

Palin supporters have constructed an alternative reality in which their heroine is wildly cheered by the American yeomanry, and despised only by a small coterie of sherry-drinking snobs. No contrary evidence, no matter how overwhelming and uncontradicted, can alter this view: not the collapse in Palin’s support in just 5 weeks in 2008, not the statistical studies that show her as the only vice presidential nominee in ticket to have hurt her ticket, not her rampant unpopularity with American women, not her own flinching from a second encounter with the Alaskan electorate.

That isn’t a glass of sherry gripped in David Frum’s sweaty fist, Palinistas. It’s a mug of scalding hot coffee, and it’s going right down your throats. Personally, I’m stuck in an alternative reality where a hardcore leftist is running up astronomical deficits and double-digit unemployment, in the service of a liberty-destroying collectivist agenda. I wonder how many hard feelings the voters of 2012 will carry for the woman who gave 110% effort to save us from this little branch in the time line, and has the battle scars to show for it… assuming they can tear themselves away from obsessing over those “statistical studies that show her as the only vice presidential nominee in ticket to have hurt her ticket.”

Frum published a companion piece on his web site, “Saint Sarah” by Napoleon Linardatos. (Get it? She’s an object of religious devotion to her mindless supporters, a little glow-in-the-dark plastic statuette on the dashboard of their limited intellects.) Linardatos zeroes in on the real reason Palin has so many Frum-ious bandersnatches nipping at her ankles:

Since the defeat of the McCain ticket in 2008, Palin as governor failed to make any serious progress despite the fact that she had gained tremendous prominence and influence on the right and that she was at the helm of a conservative state. At the end she decided to resign, 18 months before the end of her term, admitting that she was no longer able to effectively govern the state. It should have been a “mugged by reality” moment for the Palinistas. But for them her resignation was proof of the everlasting prosecution. Palin would leave governing, as the Washington Post reported, because it was “in the best interest of the state and will allow her to more effectively advocate for issues of importance to her, including energy independence and national security.” Those who can’t govern perpetually campaign.

Do you suppose that tsunami of frivolous lawsuits from the Democrat slander machine might have had something to do with her “failure to make any serious progress” as governor? It doesn’t matter to the dutiful scribes of conventional wisdom. When the Washington Post counts a Republican out, David Frum will always be there with a bottle of chloroform, to make sure they don’t get back up. Deviation from the accepted script for Republican political life is dangerous populism.

It would be foolish to suppose Palin could resume a political career without getting asked about her resignation. In fact, the media won’t just ask her about it… they’ll argue with her about it. She gives every sign of understanding that. One of her best qualifications for high office is her demonstrated ability to set aside ego and emotion, to learn from her mistakes.

Another of Palin’s qualifications is her relationship with her supporters. Contrary to the usual lazy dismissal, they’re not brimming with the kind of blind faith that put Barack Obama in office. Of course they like her. I’d be tempted to say every major politician is well-liked by their supporters, but I haven’t been able to forget about John Kerry yet. I’ve read a lot of blog posts and comments from enthusiastic Palin supporters, and they generally don’t strike me as hypnotized by the glory of her inevitable victory. They like what she says, they like her personally, and they take every opportunity to encourage her to run for office. Dismissing the ability to inspire such respect and affection as a liability is remarkably wrong-headed.

Palin has developed a remarkable knack for saying all the things President Obama should be saying, at any given moment. While Obama was serving as the warm-up act for anti-American and anti-Semitic nutjobs at the United Nations, Palin spoke of her country’s proud tradition of liberty and capitalism in Hong Kong. While Obama pondered whether the ruins of the Berlin Wall would make a suitable backdrop for his magnificence, Palin wrote of the twilight struggle between Ronald Reagan’s America and the Evil Empire… and wasn’t shy about naming both the heroes and villains.

Palin’s qualifications are not merely academic. She’s been a lonely pair of boots on the ground, in conflicts where most of her presumptive rivals have been content to either sit on the sidelines or follow her lead. She’s demonstrated a willingness to take risks, and stand her ground under fire. Those are qualities Republican voters will be looking for, if they want a President who can do more than just negotiate lower monthly payments on the lethally overdrawn American Distress card.

The mocking dismissal of Palin as a pity fetish for her faithful worshipers has it exactly backward. Many of her strident critics enjoy using her as a voodoo doll to insult her supporters. They’re the real targets of accommodating “moderates” hoping to be chosen as valets to a permanent socialist ruling class. They’re the reason David Frum perches on his dreary web site, furiously scribbling equations that prove they don’t exist. Behind the endless nattering about Sarah Palin’s qualifications for President is the assertion that her supporters aren’t qualified to vote.

I love the ‘Frum-ious bandersnatches’ line, which gets my vote for best word play of the day. Of course, I’ll now have Jabberwocky drilling through my brain all morning as a result. Thanks, Doc. Thanks a lot.

To the point, it is clear to anyone why Sarah Palin has been targeted and vilified. The motives of the Obama Machine are easy enough to discern. The others? Buckley, Brooks, Frum, Parker et al are what we call Country Club Republicans here in Indiana. These are the same people who embrace blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants, for example, because they fear losing their (very affordable) maid or nanny or gardener. To them, Sarah Palin is the chillbilly yokel who doesn’t know her place.

I think Sarah Palin is amazing and wonderful, and it gives me heart and hope our country is still capable of producing leaders like her. I disagreed with her decision to resign the governorship and I’ll probably disagree with a number of other decisions she makes down the road, but I believe in the strength of her character, share her love of country, and agree with her stance on most issues since the stands she takes are principled, drawn from the conservative core.

Character counts. First principles matter.

troyriser_gopftw on November 10, 2009 at 9:32 AM

I remember all the campaign seasons when the ‘press’ went about blasting that those Republicans only want to talk about character and the election was too important to only be about the candidate. The election was about the issues. The character of the candidate was only a secondary feel good measure and of no great consequence.

Funny isn’t it? Every campaign is about character. It’s always about character. It’s always been about character. Every race, every vote, every election throughout time. It’s ONLY about character. If I have one good person, I can gather an army, create a country, and build a life for my family and my children. Without character you’re left with nothing but empty promises.

President Reagan had character. Governor Palin has character. That’s the point. The rest is just sound bites and bumper stickers.

Definition of QUALIFICATIONS:

1)an essential skill, quality, or attribute that makes somebody SUITABLE for a job, activity or task

2)OFFICIAL requirement that must be met by somebody who is to be eligible for a position or privilege

3)something that modifies, limits or that is RESTRICTIVE in application

COMMENT:

When someone comments that Palin is not QUALIFIED he/she is not referring to (2) since Palin is 35 and a natural born citizen.

So that means one is referring to (1) or (3).

Let me deal with (3). This definition implies that one is PRESUMPTUOUS, takes liberties, or does not show enough respect or behaves impertinently so as to EXCLUDE certain ‘undesirable’ folks from membership in a ‘club’ or deem that they are not deserving of the PRIVILEGE of admission the club. This attitude is born of elitism, haughtiness, or Olympian superiority by folks who feel they have a God-given right to CERTIFY or AUTHENTICATE any prospective ENTRANT. Under these parameters Sarah Palin does not meet the QUALIFICATIONS to become POTUS, and it has very little to do with her actual ability to perform the job as POTUS.

The (1)definition is the one however that most critics, anti-Palinites or skeptics cite to presently declare that Palin does not meet the QUALIFICATIONS for POTUS.

To better delineate what is meant you have to put the word QUALIFICATIONS in context with respect to any job; and that means looking at one’s PERSONAL character attributes, physical energy, mental wellbeing and one’s intelligence and one’s training, capability, skill or talent in a particular area of expertise.

For example one may be skillful in cutting open dead bodies but if one faints from the site of blood or dead bodies one is not qualified to be a medical examiner.

And if one has all the physical energy and mental discipline to master golf but consistently shanks the golf ball off the tee one does not possess the talent to become a successful pro golfer.

To be QUALIFIED to be POTUS one should not only possess the ‘presidential temperament’ or ‘presidential timber’ but also knows what the job entails and be able to perform the job in terms of its JOB DESCRIPTION, CIC, head of the executive branch, head of state, and chief political spokesperson of the USA.

Let me examine Palin’s personal character or attributes. Despite efforts to brand Palin as crazy, erratic or unstable there is NO evidence whatsoever that Palin is crazy, loony, eccentric, irrational or being under the care of a psychiatrist or psychologist. On the contrary from all the evidence I have been able to glean, Palin has been extremely rational in her government dealings. Sure she has been passionate in her advocacy of certain viewpoints but if she is to penalized or diminished for her vigor then all the Founding Fathers should have been declared crazy and institutionalized in a mental hospital.

And in regards to those who say that Palin is intellectually challenged or does not possess the brainpower to tackle the job as POTUS, is there really any CONCRETE evidence that Palin is not smart and savvy and does not possess political acumen? How would you describe the impact Palin’s Facebook postings have had on the American consciousness? A fluke, you say!

So what I believe it boils down to is that many folks simply reject Palin or find her not SUITABLE because she is a woman, an attribute that she cannot change, for if she was a man there is no way IMHO a former VP candidate would be dismissed so easily.

So last but not least let’s focus on the job of POTUS and let’s be realistic-one cannot become POTUS if one does not secure the nomination of his/her party and one cannot get the nomination of his/her party unless one gains a significant popular following, becomes competitive in fundraising and receives the backing of influential individuals or groups.

And there is no doubt that Palin fulfills the first two prerequisites and has two years to secure the third.

A second aspect of QUALIFICATION is whether she can compete successfully against Obama. This is where the polls enter the picture and where IMHO a significant number of Palin detractors have come to the present conclusion that Palin, even though capable in terms of the above, is too DAMAGED by the MSM portrayal of her as stupid, unsophisticated and a lowbrow or too POLARIZING in a political sense to defeat Obama in 2012.

These folks fall into two camps: rational people that accept that perceptions can change, especially after Palin as been on the road for two years and inveterate Palin haters who would not embrace Palin even if she discovered a cure for cancer. The first group can be won over by a Palin-orchestrated GOP huge Congressional victory in the 2010 midterms and some of the latter will grudgingly come over to Palin because of their disgust with Obama. And of course some will never come over and instead vote for Obama, vote 3rd party or stay home.

And then the third aspect of job description is whether Palin, as a woman, will be able to perform and handle the job as POTUS. Obama’s performance will used as a comparison fairly or unfairly. In addition critics will constantly bring up the ’suitability’ issue of a woman having her finger on the red button (launching nuclear weapons)and her ability to fully grasp intellectually and intuitively what the issues are and what to do in a given situation or crisis.

That is why I believe it is so important that Palin ‘grow on the American people’ and through osmosis (continual exposure)allow the American people to observe her in different situations and how she reacts to the vicissitudes of the American political landscape, the degree of clarity she exudes in a given situation, and what decisions she arrives at.

I know as a Palinista I am in the minority but I believe at the present time Palin is NOT FULLY QUALIFIED to be POTUS, but again let me remind everybody, the job is not up for discussion until November 2012 so it is all academic for the time being.

Having said that, I am fully convinced Palin will be QUALIFIED to be POTUS by the late summer-fall 2011 when the primary season begins in earnest.

If I am wrong there is always Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich or Pawlenty to consider, isn’t there?

If you actually look at Palin’s reasons for resigning, you’ll see she did a cost/benefit analysis on it. She had a Lieutenant Governor that she trusted, and she had already accomplished everything that she had set out to do when she ran. She compared what she could continue to do as governor with the Democrats harassing and obstructing her with what her Lieutenant Governor could do without it, and chose what was best for her state.

This criticism, like all criticism of Palin that I have seen, is shallow and superficial.

As a fellow Palinista, I respect your viewpoint, understand where you are coming from, and appreciate your articulate words. I disagree that Palin isn’t ready now, only because I believe that her default settings (with assistance from subject matter experts who can be counted on to give accurate and meaningful information) would be enough to govern.

But you are correct that she can only be more ready by the time the GOP primary season arrives. Again, if she decides to go for it (2012 or beyond), I will certainly be there to support her.

itzWicks on November 10, 2009 at 9:57 AM

She exudes a cheerful optimism and a brisk, yet warm sense of getting to business that I find absolutely compelling. Her ability to articulate her beliefs, her principles is unequaled by any of the current crop of potential candidates on both sides.

piglet

Most of us agree with much of what she says. She is not perfectly in tune with everything going on, but she is a damn site closer to our positions than anything his nibs the One, or David Frum, or Mike Huckabee, or Mitt Romney, or Tim Pawlenty, or John McCain, or Lindsay Graham, or Newt Gingrich says about how middle Americans feel at the moment.

She believes America is a force for good in the world, and he does not. She has faith that we, as a country, can overcome any obstacle put in our path as long as we work towards limiting our government; allowing private enterprise and its inherent efficiencies to pull us up by our bootstraps economically instead of taxing the Hell out of the engine of our economy; and using science and technology to our advantage instead of imposing artificial limitations on our industry by taxing the crap out of energy, innovation, and small businesses; and by supporting the mission and the families of braver Men and Women than you and I who go about fighting Islamic extremism every day they draw a breath, for us, without faltering or failing, and with Honor in their profession.

And that is all most of us need to know to follow her. Since she is the only one leading with a message that says we are good people, compassionate, industrious, and worthy of distinction above all the tyranny in this world, then we will follow.

Subsunk

Very well said by both.

definition of QUITTER

A DEFEATIST who gives up too easily, one who embraces failure, one who shirks his duties, deserts his post, or abandons his/her field of endeavor

1)Sarah as giving up, going into a shell, becoming a recluse and staying out of the public eye

NO!

2)Sarah embraces failure so much that she rejects the milquetoast approach of the Congressional RINO’s and continue to fight Obama’s agenda every step of the way

No!

3)The mythology that Sarah has shirked her duties and deserted her post is disabused by the fact that she has handed over the reins of power to her Lt Governor by all reports is doing a good job. And Sarah no longer receives a salary as governor.

No!

4)Sarah has abandoned politics

You’ve got to be kidding!

Conclusion:

Sarah Palin is NOT a quitter but a fighter. A sign that she is not quitter. No quitter takes the time or expends the effort to rally the troops (conservatives) like Sarah has if she has quit.

technopeasant on November 10, 2009 at 10:15 AM

Being qualified is a matter for voters to decide. Hillary did penetrate Obama’s campaign mantle with her “3 o’clock” ad.

That is, of course, why the media hated it. *haha

And, I think, the concern was valid. I see him now as alarmingly unprepared for the job in many ways.

Unfortunately, for Sarah, this is also her achilles heel, and I am not sure voters will go twice for someone without solid national experience.

We’ll see. The rhetoric will be ugly, but the truth is that people are a bit bitten by Obama’s meteoric rise. Her key power is a kind of Jacksonian revolutionary spirit. That will also be the problem for a lot of people who don’t want to make the same mistake twice.

This could, in fact, reverse into a plus for Obama. It could be that people will say, “Well, at least he now has 4 years under his belt.”

It’s an issue.

Doctor Zero, another wonderful piece!
You’re almost as heartening as Sarah Palin herself!
Could you please replace Eeyore as one of the main bloggers of this site?

Jenfidel on November 10, 2009 at 10:53 AM

I’m starting to really feel that Dr. Zero is second only to Mark Steyn in his analysis and clarity . . . and his wit is pretty damned close as well.

Does this fellow have a blog of his own? He could do a LOT better than Allah’s and Ed’s benchwarmer.

As far as the Palin poll numbers, she could eat that s*** up in a matter of weeks once she starts doing her thing back on the national stage; she’s too f***ing good and she’ll be too f***ing prepared next time.

Plus, about 75% of the viewing public will be tuned to Fox News (and Dr. Zero’s site) by that time so those seditious media coxuckers won’t be able to circle the wagons around Obama like they did last time.

DrZin on November 10, 2009 at 11:25 AM

I love Sarah Palin. I think she is absolutely the right person for the GOP. I would choose her in a Presidential election over any and every Democrat. I would support any list of other Republicans in a primary. I would not be exceedingly happy if she were our candidate.

It’s not about leadership, principles, or ideals. She’s crucifying EVERYONE on the right in all of those right now. It’s about “Presidentiality.” Obama ain’t got it. Reagan defined it. I’m not sure Palin’s got it.

Reference my first sentence though. I LOVE her politics. She stays on message better than anyone in the universe right now and is undeniably controlling the conversation. She hammers conservative principle, picks her battles well, is out Obama-ing Obama in her use of the internet, and gets stronger every day. She is the undisputed conservative champion right now.

So kick Steele to the curb and let her lead the party. Give her positional authority to clean up local parties (no more Dede, thank you very much), the checkbook, and the public recognition that her message is where we’re going. She’s tough as nails and will make Tim Kaine look silly.

Installing her as POTUS is a brazen dare to every KGB Kook, tiny tinpot, and pretentious pseudo-Cuban wannabe to explore and develop their inner misogynist. She wouldn’t blink, but let’s limit ourselves to two wars if we can.

realityunwound on November 10, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Behind the endless nattering about Sarah Palin’s qualifications for President is the assertion that her supporters aren’t qualified to vote.

And only we in the gate-stream media possess the ability to confer “electability”. Or at least (in our cowering retreat) recognize it…and if you ignore us you’ll be sorry!

Beautiful concluding words Doctor Zero.

BTW: Has anyone else noticed that this “poll” puts former Presidential contenders next to comparative unknowns (at least as far as the Presidential election cycle is concerned) like Sarah Palin?

According to Gallup, X% … Palin “unqualified” to serve as president – by far the worst score for any leading Republican. In comparison, only Y% of Americans say they would never consider voting for Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee … qualified.

Geezus. Both these guys gave us their best pitch, over and over again, over an 8+-month cycle, as to why they should be elected President. And the mainstream media faithfully covered them while they made these points. Sarah hasn’t done that yet. Doesn’t that at least count for something in David Frum’s book?

Let’s talk again when survey respondents have been treated to an entire election cycle with Palin being covered seriously as a presidential (primary) candidate, and once they’ve seen Palin in a cycle of presidential debates where she frames questions in the “if I am elected President I will…” style, like both Romney and Huckabee have done already.

Note that this point doesn’t even seem to register with Frum.

Comparing Palin’s “qualification” ratings to Romney or Huckabee is a little silly, because neither of them took the kind of pounding she did.

That too. It could also have helped Sarah in this poll to have had a cycle’s worth of presidential electioneering under her belt.

RD on November 10, 2009 at 11:55 AM

Isn’t Frum one of the old NRO pantywaists that Ann Coulter called “girlymen” several years ago when they canned her for her caustic, but accurate and incisive remarks.

Frum thinks that he and his ilk get to approve and annoint who will lead the American people and the 2 major political parties.

I read his article a few days ago and thought that it was more of the same sophistry from the chattering class.

Run along now, David.

And, for the record, I love and respect Sarah, and I think that she does a great job staying on a message of limited government and conservatism which resonates very loudly with me.

molonlabe28 on November 10, 2009 at 12:47 PM

Dr. Zero, you are becoming one of my favorite Conservative writers – and you keep company with Steyn and Hanson on that score.

“Frum’s Law”: If it makes absolutely no sense politically, argue it.

I’ve done all the defending I’m going to do about Palin. If the GOP goes gunning for her, they will deliver the WH to Obama for another four years, because there will be those who will never again vote for a mccain.

Carolina Kat on November 10, 2009 at 1:06 PM

So, I was just at story hour with my toddler and managed to read an essay in Malcolm Gladwell’s new book, “What the Dog Saw.” The title essay is about Caesar Millan, the “Dog Whisperer,” and why he has been so successful. Gladwell writes a lot about successful people in many different fields, and posits very original and thought-provoking ideas for why they have succeeded.

In this essay, he wrote about Millan’s physical presence, and how his “phrasing” when he moves and speaks is so compelling. The author’s expert compared it to both Bill Clinton’s and Ronald Reagan’s versatility in phrasing, that they could weave a dance with their words and their movements while speaking, and explained in very vivid terms why George W. Bush’s speeches were not successfully delivered.

I immediately thought of Sarah Palin. She has that phrasing, that resonance when she speaks publicly as well. I thought perhaps it might be courage of conviction that allows people with presence to build a trust with an audience, but then realized that W. was nothing if not full of conviction, and Clinton’s only conviction was that he liked being president. But I think that’s why we compare her favorably with Reagan, she holds the elusive key to being a great communicator.

I remember back in 1992 I was debating a couple of hard core Democrats. I tried making the point that Clinton had a history of saying one thing and doing another. There response was that character didn’t matter. All they cared about was that Clinton supported the same things they did. 6 months later, after Clinton had abandoned everyone of his campaign promises, I had the pleasure of meeting up with those same Democrats again.

The attacks on Palin have reached a depth that is almost impossible to comprehend. She was a little inexperienced but was obviously more qualified to be president than Obama and probably more qualified than Biden or McCain. She was the competent chief executive of Alaska and demonstrated that she was consistent in her views and a quick study as well as an inspiring public speaker. The only reasonable explanation is that she looked dangerous to the dems, the MSM and the country club republicans.

Qualifications to be President of the United States:

1.) Natural born citizen

2.) At least 35 years of age

3.) 14 years residency in the U.S.

That’s it according to the U.S. Consitution, Article II, Section 1.5.

The magnificient Sarah Palin works WITH Americans disgusted by the GOP’s efforts to get Democrats elected. The beltway insiders Romney, Huckabee, Frum, Newt, and McLame stand mute.

Sarah Palin draws CHEERS when she appears in public. The beltway insiders get jeers, and boos WHEN they find the backbone to appear in public forums. Usually these lousy beltway insiders are too busy walking in lockstep with the Communist styled Democrat Party in attacking the most relevant Sarah.

Sarah Palin is relevant to changing the loused up GOP and the current Communist styled Democrat Party. The beltway insiders are the targets of the Tea Party Protests.

DannoJyd on November 10, 2009 at 5:41 PM

I believe that the left SO hates Sarah Palin because she is first and foremost a Reformer-she cleaned up the corruption and waste in her state Govt and her own party. That’s the last thing leftys want; they thrive on the expansion of Govt, creating thousands of worthless, non-contributing jobs that never go away. Apparently in AK, you can still cut jobs & spending; i.e. run the govt with actual ‘common sense.’ They see what she’s accomplished, and that McCain had supposedly tapped her to “Reform DC”, and they knew that was the most dangerous thing to their MO. Never mind the fact that she’s everything NOW once told women they could be, except that she’s all that AND a mother, and Christian, and Pro-Life, and beautiful to boot. And a Republican. So they’re both hugely threatened by her and hatefully jealous of her. They can’t stand the fact that a such a woman exists, and she’s not liberal, and that the liberal idealogy was the ultimate failure to women and the women’s movement.
