Obamateurism of the Day

For our OOTD today, we’re going to revisit Barack Obama’s “Pet Goat” moment from last week. Obama spent two minutes giving shout-outs to his new friends at the Tribal Nations Conference instead of talking to the nation about the shooting at Fort Hood. Even apart from the breathtakingly insensitivity from Obama, he also got this wrong:
THE PRESIDENT: Please, everybody have a seat. Let me first of all just thank Ken and the entire Department of the Interior staff for organizing just an extraordinary conference. I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow was around, and so I want to give a shout-out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It’s good to see you. (Applause.)
Except that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow has not received the Medal of Honor. He has been awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, not the military Medal of Honor. And Obama should know, since he was the one who presented the award to Dr. Medicine Crow. In fact, he presented the award less than three months ago (h/t HA reader Sheridan):

Also, as anyone in the military will confirm, one does not win a Medal of Honor; they receive it. Many people make that mistake … but one should expect better from the nation’s Commander in Chief.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

How can this be? Obama is brilliant. Just ask him.
CarolynM on November 9, 2009 at 9:49 AM
…if it isn’t about Obama, Obama doesn’t really care.

In nine words you have summed up the lesson of the Obama presidency. This should be on billboards and TV ads in 2012. Simple, clean…even the idiot 52% can understand it.

Now we have the Director of Homeland Security doing backflips over concerns of an anti muslim backlash…..
Frankly, the amount of restraint by American wingnuts has been pretty damn good considering the fact that we have a specific, identifiable minority that is the sole architect of mass murdering Americans.
No need to constantly brow beat folks over the need for restraint….okay, we get it but enough already.

Could they be hoping that when the bill is eventually defeated, people will forget those who supported it along the way?

Here’s a link I’ve posted before about Gerry Connolly and his Draconian “permissions to be heard” registration requirements during the 5 November Tea Party Protest AND his leveling ASSAULT charges against a constituent for just touching his arm. There are pictures.
.
He is a liberal extremist of one form or another in the Fairfax County region of Northern Virginia, probably an extreme sissy. Pin him down with that one, NoVa conservatives.

I sure hope they meant “latest”, not “last”.

That whore needs to be fired. First she defends profiling returning troops as extremists and then her people completely ignore an Army officer chatting it up with terrorists and speaking out against America. Complete and utter incompetence and she’s got to go along with the idea that there is no such thing as a GWOT.

This is the American Idol / Eternal Campaign Presidency.
Winning, losing – His only frame of reference.

You guys keep judging Obama on a reality basis, you can’t. One must put on their affirmative action glasses to make a score on Obama and the then the score is always above 100…… ALWAYS.
jukin on November 9, 2009 at 10:29 AM
Medal of Freedom, Medal of Honor, what’s the difference? Obama can’t stand freedom, and never had any honor. Just words.
Steve Z on November 9, 2009 at 10:47 AM
I was just thinking about this earlier today. It’s a particular shame, because Dr Medicine Crow served in the Army and fought in the infantry in Germany during WWII. Instead of giving a cheesy “shout-out,” Obama could have segued gracefully from his honor and bravery in the face of those horrors, to the bravery of the men and women at Fort Hood.
Not just a failure on the President’s part, but a typical lack of foresight and complex thought.
(I’ll leave the award misidentification gaffe alone. I’m sure he was just reciting what his teleprompter overlord told him to say.)

A “shout-out” to you Obama: how is it you’re telling us “not to jump to conclusions” about Hasan the terrorist, when you did just that on national TV when Gates was arrested. Your “racism” is showing you fool!

Just not this one.

I believe it’s more accurate to say people are awarded the Medal of Honor.
O-Dub on November 9, 2009 at 12:09 PM
I would say that nobody wins the Medal of Freedom either — they also are awarded it.
After all, it’s not like anyone who received these medals was in a competition with others to earn it?
The President is still stuck in Copenhagen, dreaming of winning the Olympics for Chicago. Oh dear, that isn’t a correct use of the term either, is it?
unclesmrgol on November 9, 2009 at 12:17 PM
It sickens me that everybody calls this Muslim terrorist a “shooter”, when in actuality, he is a “murderer”. I am sure the lamestream media will never call a spade a spade.

Hasan acted stupidly.

All of the above should be a choice. Each week it comes to that as EVERYONE sees what a turd they elected.
When will Obam ALLOW us to do anything as opposed to what he MANDATES what we cannot do?
What an ego he has to believe only he knows all.
dthorny on November 9, 2009 at 3:19 PM
What do you expect? The guy rubber stamps birthday cards to his kids. He can never have too much time thinking about himself and himself only.

Maybe on 1/20/09, but not anymore.
