Huckabee: Palin’s getting more media buzz than me because she’s attractive
posted at 7:00 pm on November 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m a little surprised Sarahcuda hasn’t gone after him for this. Too early, maybe?
Palin is the party’s rock star.
“Some of the people who had excoriated me and really been very dismissive of me for views that I had taken, and labeled me anything from a populist to an ignoramus — the same people have been very defensive [of] and laudatory to Sarah Palin,” Huckabee noted, adding that he’d invited her to appear on his weekly Fox show but “could never get any contact.”
“I’m glad she’s getting the props — I know I’m not nearly as attractive,” he said with a guileless grin.
If pressed on this, no doubt he’ll go into “aw shucks” mode and insist he was merely paying her a compliment, but this isn’t the first time he’s attributed Palin’s appeal to her looks. Remember this from last November?
Neither was he quite so unperturbed by the Palin pick: “I was scratching my head, saying, ‘Hey, wait a minute. She’s wonderful, but the only difference was she looks better in stilettos than I do, and she has better hair.’ It wasn’t so much a gender issue, but it was like they suddenly decided that everything they disliked about me was O.K. . . . She was given a pass by some of the very people who said I wasn’t prepared.”
He polls well with women and she polls badly, so from the standpoint of pure cynical self-interest, she could score an easy point on a potential rival by challenging his rhetoric as sexist here. Why doesn’t she? Is it because she doesn’t want to call attention to the fact that she and Huck are pretty similar, actually? Or is she thinking strategically, that if she runs and he doesn’t she’ll need his endorsement down the line? Her book tour does include a stop in Iowa…
Don’t laugh at the idea that Huck might not run, either. Does this sound like a guy who’s trying to make friends ahead of 2012?
But some attitudes don’t change. Huckabee met in the spring with Pat Toomey, then the president of the Wall Street-backed Club for Growth, which had attacked him during the 2008 campaign for raising taxes in Arkansas.
“It wasn’t very productive,” he said of the meeting. “I realized then that these guys are just what I thought they were — they’re pay for play, and they do it anonymously on behalf of people who don’t want to be known as the funders of these hit operations. I find that repulsive.”
Given that fiscal conservatives are the people Huck will have to win over to beat Romney, TNR calls this knock on CfG “the functional equivalent of Mitt Romney trashing evangelicals.” Exit question: Is Huck running or not?

I used to be a Huck supporter… I like Fred too but he dropped out… anyway I don’t care what he says or thinks of Palin…and I don’t think they have much in common except they are both Christians but then again so are Romney, Paul, McCain etc…

That’s a great point, but even a noted crack addict such as myself can read the polls and figure out that Biden crushed Palin in that debate.

Huckabee: “Well, now that I’ve said what I think of you, Sarah, What do you think of me? Don’t hold back, use any language you wish.”
Palin: “But I don’t think of you.”

This is very true. It would be best if Huckabee had not made the statement last year or this year, and he shouldn’t go there again. My guess is that the best response to it is to ignore it or say, “Thanks!”

SHE WILL NEVER CHANGE THAT PERCEPTION, BECAUSE THAT PERCEPTION IS FILTERED THROUGH THE LENS OF THE MSM WHCH SHE WILL NEVER (NOR WANTS TO) CONVINCE.
HER BEST BET IS TO GO AROUND THE MSM AND SPEAK TO CONSERVATIVES AND INDEPENDENTS AND CAUSE A REVOLT AGAINST THE OPINION MAKERS AND EGGHEADS IN DC.
COMMENT:
What I find fascinating about your comment is that I cannot figure out whether you are ambivalent or not totally convinced yourself whether Palin can pull it off.
A few days ago I admitted that if the primary vote was held starting in January 2010 Palin would not get the GOP nomination, but ask yourself if the primary vote for the Dems was held starting in Januaray 2006 would Obama have gained the Democratic nomination. No!
I may be in a minority but I do agree with Obama with one thing that he has said, that running for POTUS is a marathon that allows one to develop and hone his/her skills and simply makes one a better candidate and more qualified to become POTUS.
Rationally (I assume you are rational), after two years of Palin travelling throughout the lower 48 on a book tour, giving hundreds of speeches to SRO audiences, travelling to foreign countries, raising boatloads of money for herself and the party, writing op-eds, granting hundreds of TV interviews, being endorsed by prominent Republicans, Christian groups or think tanks, helping to orchestrate a huge turnaround in the GOP fortunes in the 2010 midterms and advancing the conservative cause and generally proving she has the character, mettle, moxie, and leadership abilities to be POTUS, do you think it might be possible that Sarah could be seen in a different light?
Have you ever heard the expression “she grows on you” or do you understand the concept of ‘osmosis’?

Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin are twin brother and sister.
They are identical in every way.
The only difference is Sarah Palin paraded around in a bikini for money.
MaximusConfessor on November 9, 2009 at 8:08 PM
I hope Palin never says a word about what he’s saying.
He’s a foolish little man to speak like that.
She should keep silent. There are plenty of us women out here who are annoyed with his sexist little comments who can speak for her.
Keep it up, Huck. I hope he does. I’m sick of the polls showing him on top.

I see more similarity between Romney and Palin. They both have a demonstrated history of being able to stand up to an entrenched political establishment they disagree with. How are policy positions on paper even 1/10 th as important as that? That is where the GOP train has derailed. RINOism has nothing to do with specific policy positions. It is a question of if one has the fortitude to stand against a wave of political correctness and an undertow of corrupt backroom deal making in order to actually stick to a few principles.

Not only does he not get any points for that compliment, he just lost alot of votes in 2012.
Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and other talk show hosts all endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2008 election. That ought to tell you who the real conservative was in that election.
Dude, if you want to judge someone to see how “Christian” based on thier kid’s behavior, the Huckster is no saint either. David Huckabee hung a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998 and tried to carry a gun into the Little Rock airport.
If we’re gonna judge how Christian by how thier kids behave, then Mitt Romney must be a saint since they all served missions for the LDS Church and are all married.
But we all know that looking at someone’s kids to see how “Christian” the parents are is ridiculous.

Palin doesn’t because she follows Regan’s philosophy of not publicly attacking members of her own party. Especially when Obama and the Democrats continue to provide such a target rich environment for Republican and Conservative attacks on their policies and actions. Which is something that Huckabee and Romney need to remember and try to focus more apon than who is getting all the attention and why. Besides if Huck were to get the sort of negative attention that Palin has inflicted upon her by the MSM I think he would wilt faster than a freshly picked bunch of pansy’s on a hot summer day.

What if the Club for Growth is “pay for play?” What if they do, in fact, run television ads anonymously for politicians if the price is right? Wouldn’t Huckabee be doing the right thing by rejecting their support irregardless of any political fallout. Isn’t this the kind of integrity we want from our leaders. Sometimes there can be two or more ways of looking at something.

Max, you seem to like Ron Paul, and honestly, I think Ron Paul is dead on on economic issues, though I disagree with him on foreign policy somewhat. Now, about Palin being shamelessly promoted as the republican front runner and the epitome of republicanism, I missed that. I saw Palin excoriated by both Democrats and Republicans who are entrenched in their special interests. Support Ron Paul and argue his positions. That’s good. Just be intellectually honest about Palin. Refute her, argue honestly against her policy positions, but be fair about it. Godspeed.

Allah, you just love to start trouble for Mike Huckabee don’t you? You are taking a comment and trying to convince the people on this site that Mike Huckabee is being sexist against Sarah Palin. That isn’t true and you know it.
I have commented many times on this site that Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin have a lot in common. Mike Huckabee also knows that…that’s why he it is hard to understand why people like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, all support Sarah Palin but have not supported Mike Huckabee in 2008 or now. MH has won many polls in the last 2 months that indicate he is the frontrunner for the 2012 Presidential election (I know it’s way too early, but it does show a trend), yet they all ignore him. These polls he has won are not mentioned on National Review, RedState, Townhall or even on Fox News. If Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney would have won these polls, they would have all had big headlines with her winning. Mike Huckabee was constantly put down for being a populist, but it’s no big deal if Sarah is a populist. That is what Huckabee is talking about. When he mentions her looks, it is only used as a joke because it’s hard to understand how they treat Huckabee so differently.
As far as his comments about Club for Growth being a “pay for play”, remember that Mitt Romney and his surrogates “donated” over $500,000 to Club for Growth during the 2008 primary, and they were the ones who spent $2,000,000 on negative ads against Mike Huckabee. Does that sound like maybe they were being “paid” to run those ads especially given Mitt Romney had “Romneycare” which is a very liberal program and yet Club for Growth never said a negative thing about that.
No, it’s not okay for Huckabee to step aside…he has every right to run for office again as any other candidate, especially when he is winning all the polls right now. Thank God the American voters don’t treat Mike Huckabee like the Washington elite.
VFT on November 9, 2009 at 10:06 PM

I like your valiant efforts to support Huck, VFT.
But the truth is that outside of their religion and agreement on social issues, Huck is a big-spending liberal when it comes to fiscal/business issues.
That alone should disqualify him from an election where we need a courageous budget-cutter, and someone to bring back business confidence. Huck can’t pull that off. Romney is neither a fiscon or a socon though so he is out. I do understand Huck’s frustration but his campaign did play the religion card against Romney and that brought him right down with Mitt and his supporters.
He may be lightly leading in some polls but he has reached his high-water mark and will gradually decline as Sarah’s star rises.
I believe he will not run, but I also believe that in the end, he will support Sarah because they are more outside the establishment than Romney and I suspect he admires her courage and populist fight against the same establishment that dissed him.

No difference between Mormonism and Christian denominations? Let me acquaint you with a text known as “The Book of Mormon.”
That said, I’d vote for Romney over Obama any day.

I need to do a search to see if any former preacher ever was elected to the position of the president of the United States. Is America ready for someone from Arkansas again?
If he couldn’t beat McCain the last time his chances for success in the next anytime is highly doubtful.
Hey Mike – what have you done for the people of this country lately?
40% of the country is conservative & 34% call themselves Independants. Will conservatives remember all the support that Huckabee gave Hoffman in NY23?
Windsocks can appeal to Blue Dog Democrats occasionally sort of — but conservatives think windsocks are the type of leadership that will eventually gives us another Obama type following the next successful windsock president. We’ll need someone who can lead us back to the founders true intent of the US Constitution & Huckabee isn’t that someone.
Huckabee should have ran for the US Senate. That is his level of incompentency [peter principle]. Any attempt for a higher office than the US Senate for Huckabee would only be a waste of good money & valuable time.

The only difference between Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee is: Sarah Palin unabashedly supports AMNESTY for illegal aliens whereas Mike Huckabee claims to support closed borders and enforcing the law(even though he promoted open borders in the 90′s).

Again, one can tell that Sarah is the one. The mere mention of her name gets the liberal trolls all worked up as you can see in the comments here. Conservative women rule-at least let’s hope so in the coming years.
