Gallup: Number who’d tell their rep to vote for ObamaCare down 11 points since last month

Keep up the great work, champ.
Americans have moved in a more negative direction on the basic issue of whether a new bill should be passed into law. Thirty-eight percent now say they would advise their member of Congress to vote against a new healthcare bill this year, while 29% would advise their member to vote for it, and about a third have no opinion. When those with no opinion are asked which way they lean, the verdict becomes 48% “against,” and 43% “for.” Both of these results are more negative than those from early October.
Forget the number who say “vote against.” Compare the number who say “vote for” to those with no opinion. From +15 to -4 in … one month:

If you’re wondering how this shakes out in ideological terms, especially after the independent wave towards the GOP in Virginia and New Jersey, feast your eyes:

If you include leaners, indies break 37/53. I don’t know how to explain the off-the-cliff decline in those who’d tell their reps to vote yes on the bill. Presumably it’s either (a) a backlash to the public option being included in both the House and Senate bills, which is unlikely since the public option tends to poll well, or (b) the public starting to focus on the particulars of the House and Senate plans now that they’ve been concretized in bill form. Don’t assume too much about the latter, though: This poll was conducted from November 5th to the 8th, which means most of the samples were taken before PelosiCare passed. The best we can do by way of an after-the-fact poll is Rasmussen, who asked likely voters on Saturday and Sunday whether they favor or oppose the program. Result: 45/52, which is surprisingly close to what CNN found when they polled adults last week. If the next polls show a public backlash to PelosiCare’s passage, the Senate’s going to gag on this even more than they already are.
A tiny bit of good news for The One: He’s almost back to zero on his approval ratings on health care. The bad news?

Greater than one third of democrats have no opinion. I’d like to add that they have no clue either.

Now that’s change I CAN believe in.

Obama don’t care about who approves or disapproves. It’s all about him anyway. He wants his name on the destruction of this country and gosh darn it, he’s gonna have it at any cost.

Obama’s Abyss!!
canopfor on November 9, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I suspect the reason for support diving while not moving to the ‘no’ column can be summed up pretty easy. “It’s the economy stupid”.
I suspect people think there are more important issues with the country right now than to pass the mother of all entitlements.
clement on November 9, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Damn near too late unless “their rep” includes their senator.
The problem is that some of these senators have been working all their lives for this. They don’t care if they go down with Obamacare, as long as it passes.
Missy on November 9, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I don’t undertstand how 1/3 of Americans have no opinion on this issue.
mankai on November 9, 2009 at 10:19 PM
I’d suggest the drop-off is due to the increased attention to the fines and jail sentences component of the bill, and more broadly what other punitive things might be lurking and what all of this implies about the coercive nature and intentions of the proponents.

Let me be perfectly clear, those trend lines and cross tabs are racist.

The ongoing neverending perpetual HealthCare
iceberg collision by Team Obama!!
canopfor on November 9, 2009 at 10:21 PM
Maybe the drip, drip, drip of information that “indies” are finding out on their own is enough to convince them that democRATS are just trying to gain more power rather than provide insurance/health care for Americans.

I don’t believe this poll
Did they ask the “Obama-money / Obama’s secret stash” ladies in Detroit ?
And that woman who said Obama will put gas in her car?
If the “Obama girl” and Demi Moore don’t say it so, it ain’t so !

Where are the poll numbers of people who know that they can go to jail if they don’t buy an “approved” government health plan…?
Seven Percent Solution on November 9, 2009 at 10:26 PM
It’s probably just people learning they are going to jail if they don’t get the insurance the government wants them to get.
True_King on November 9, 2009 at 10:28 PM
Most Americans are simply unqualified to vote. Their ignorance propels us towards socialism as they vote for the “cool” guy who’s not an old white guy.
No representation without taxation and no voting without passing a test first.
DerKrieger on November 9, 2009 at 10:28 PM
The most frustrating thing is that you could have a poll that said 85% did not want Obamacare and they would still ram this crap down our throats.
Vigilante on November 9, 2009 at 10:29 PM
At least 1/3 of Americans have no clue…about anything but the latest electronic gadget or who’s a free agent next year.

No kidding. It is very apparent the will of the people does not matter here.
truetexan on November 9, 2009 at 10:34 PM
This turd has a way’s to go. Senate, confrence negotiations, another House vote, another Senate vote. If it makes it that far, Obambi is sure to sign it. Which will put the next phase into action.
The obvious court cases challenging the Constitutional authority to impose such mandates.
Hog Wild on November 9, 2009 at 10:35 PM
The beautiful thing about the PelosiCare bill is that it was passed – but will never become law.
We now have 2,000 juicy pages of GOP 2010 ads with the names of Democratic congressman on record who supported them.
There will be no realized benefits from the bill – but there’s plenty of ammunition in there for our side in the elections next year.
Can’t wait!
HondaV65 on November 9, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Choke on it, Pelosi!
JAM on November 9, 2009 at 10:38 PM
I don’t have all the facts, but the Democrats behaved stupidly.
Ignore us now. We will return the favor on election day.
TN Mom on November 9, 2009 at 10:41 PM
I presume that a large part of that 1/3 are people who are unhappy about what they’ve heard yet are either afraid to say so not wanting to feel themselves anti-Obama.
And too, I know people like we here actively engaged and watching what’s occurring closely there are so many Americans whose eyes glaze over when this is mentioned in the news and they quickly switch over to ESPN or Lifetime or whatever just so they don’t have to hear about it.
JoeinTX on November 9, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Where is an RNC spot telling people “1500 dollars or 1500 days”? Air it during NBC News and O’Reilly will show it for free.
ROCnPhilly on November 9, 2009 at 10:45 PM
b
What makes you think our side is smart enough to use the ammunition given them.
Consider all the ammunition McCain had and refused to use. So I am not convinced the GOP has learned their lesson on playing in the big leagues yet.

I’m willing to take the fall and go to jail for not purchasing G-surance, especially if it means a Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of this blob from a lib universe if it becomes law.
Perhaps Mark Levin will represent me.
I’d love to hear him tell Congress “Now get outta here, you big dopes.”

Americans do not want Obamacare.
jhffmn on November 9, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Oh the best part about all this?
There is no way the left can spin this as liberals who are unhappy the plan does not have a public option.
Granted it was laughable they tried, but it ends now. America does not want Obamacare to pass.

Healthcare ads, indeed. If the economy gets any worse, they will not need this issue to toss the bums out. They may not even need ads.
IlikedAUH2O on November 10, 2009 at 12:06 AM
I was thinking that myself, they basically wrote the commercials for the Republicans, especially the you go to jail part. I agree that people may not know who the VP is or what country they live in sometimes but everyone understands misdemeanor court. That’s personal.

What fries me is that it takes America SOoooo long to come to the right conclusion. Oh well, better late than never.

It’s the 23%, 33% and 37% no opinion idiots you have to worry about. A Springsteen concert and a good speech and they’ll be willing to sign up for anything.
Caper29 on November 10, 2009 at 12:28 AM
Number who’d not vote for their representative because they voted for ObamaCare down: 0%. Thus, ObamaCare.
Ding ding ding. Winner winner, chicken dinner.
America voted for this crap sandwich. The only thing standing in between the republic and tyranny is a vocal minority. If America as a whole got its way, the nation would be thoroughly socialist and completely bankrupt.

I suspect that someone offered these politicians 72 virgins if they vote for Obamacare because they wont have a job after that. Wait till they find out that the virgins are in the same place that the savings and healthcare will be
not existent!
Don L on November 10, 2009 at 6:45 AM
The problem is that these self serving, narcissistic, incompetent politicians couldn’t care less what the people want. Their only goal is to ensure that they continue to slop themselves at the public feeding trough.
rplat on November 10, 2009 at 7:16 AM
These polls mean nothing to the politicians.
It would take a poll with 100% against backed up a highly visible, in-the-face recall campaign to get any politicians attention.
albill on November 10, 2009 at 7:33 AM
Number could be 100% against and it won\’t matter, Lieberman will cave, Snowe will cave and all the so called Blue Dogs will cave. Put yourself in the position of a so called Blue Dog. You have two options. Vote against ObamaCare and remain a backbencher for a few more years. Or vote for it, lose re-election and get that nice ambassadorship to the Cayman Islands as a thank you from Obama.Hmmm tough choice.
angryed on November 10, 2009 at 7:59 AM
So true. Undecided really means uninformed. If after 8 months of this debate you still can’t decide if you like freedom or you like communism I hope to god you never leave your mom’s basement to vote.
angryed on November 10, 2009 at 8:01 AM
The problem among the Dummiecrats is that they hate to deviate from the position of their Dear Leaders, but a few of them actually possess a modicum of common sense as well, and these two, diametrically opposed, forces leave them conflicted on health care.
mr.blacksheep on November 10, 2009 at 8:58 AM
How well the public option polls, depends entirely on how it is described in the poll.
MarkTheGreat on November 10, 2009 at 9:00 AM
Public option polling:
Q. Do you want the government to provide you cheap health care?
A. 60% in favor.
Q. Do you want the government to decide whether or not your life is worth saving, and cut your Medicare benefits to pay for it?
A. 40% in favor.
Mark Twain was right. Lies, d@mned lies, and statistics.
Steve Z on November 10, 2009 at 10:07 AM
Hmmmmmm…….this just goes to show you how well them Damicrats listen and care about the people that hired them to go do a job for them. It is time that every single one of them got recycled back to the civilian work force and made to go look for another job. FIRE ALL OF THEM!
