Open thread: PelosiCare vote coming tonight; Update: 35 Dems oppose? Update: Stupak amendment passes; Update: Bill passes, 220-215, one GOPer votes yes

posted at 5:45 pm on November 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Twitter’s hopping with rumors about vote-wrangling and backroom deals so I figured you guys could use a thread to exchange information. Just within the past half hour, Politico’s heard whispers from the Democratic leadership that they’ve reached 218. Debate on Stupak’s amendment to strip abortion funding from the bill is coming up, followed by a vote on that and then — sometime between nine and eleven p.m. — the big vote on PelosiCare itself. If you’re watching this all play out on C-SPAN (either on TV or online), keep your eye on Republicans demanding a promise from Pelosi that if Stupak’s amendment passes, it won’t later be dropped in the conference committee with the Senate. The Democrats have been coy about that thus far.

Updates will appear below as warranted. In the meantime, here’s Paul Ryan trying to rally the troops, apparently to no avail. Exit question via Karl: Should the GOP vote “present” on Stupak’s amendment instead of voting for it? Think strategically.

Update: The office of the GOP whip says 33 Democrats will vote no. 41 is the magic number.

Update: If you’re looking for reasons to hope, remember that Pelosi also thought she had 218 when TARP first came to the House floor for a vote last year. That went down in flames, only to be resuscitated a week later.

Update: Here’s a fun thought: What if the bill passes 218-217 … and Bill Owens casts the deciding vote? Dude.

Update: Locker-room pep talk, Obama style:

In listing their legislation they have passed to this point, the president told them, “You did this without any help from the other side,” complaining Republicans have been “saying ‘no,’ stopping progress, gumming up the works was their preferred strategy.”

“Are we going to stop now, or push forward?” Obama asked.

“Push forward,” a dozen or so Democrats shouted back.

“I’m absolutely confident we’ll get this thing done,” Obama told the group. “And when I’m in the Rose Garden signing a piece of legislation to give health care to all Americans, we’ll look back and say that was our finest moment.”

Update: Cantor says there are 35 Democratic no’s. It’ll be razor thin.

Update: At 10 p.m. ET, the vote on Stupak’s anti-abortion amendment is finally on. Stand by. As I write this, it’s 73/90 against passage.

Update: The vote on the amendment is 236/190 as I write this, which is bad news. Not only is there no guarantee that the amendment will survive the conference committee with the Senate (or a Supreme Court challenge, natch), but this gives pro-life Blue Dogs the cover they need to vote for the final bill. It’s going to pass. Sigh.

Update: A smart minority party would have voted present and made the Dems choke on it. Alas, this is our minority party:

“We believe in the sanctity of life, and the Stupak-Pitts Amendment addresses a moral issue of the utmost concern. It will limit abortion in the United States. Because of this, while we strongly and deeply oppose the underlying bill, we decided to stand with Life and support Stupak-Pitts.

“The danger of this bill passing without critical pro-life language was too great a risk to do otherwise. Indeed, a number of Democrat supporters of Stupak-Pitts had privately indicated to many of our colleagues that all they needed for “cover” was a vote, and they would support final passage even if the amendment failed.

“To be clear, the Stupak-Pitts Amendment’s passage is the right thing to do. We believe you just don’t play politics with life.

“When this bill is conferenced with the Senate, the pro-life majority in the House of Representatives must ensure that this important amendment is in the final legislation. If it does not, this same strong majority must defeat the bill.”

Update: It’s 10:45 ET and it looks like the final vote is coming within the next 15 minutes. I held out hope this morning that we might get a humpbot cameo tonight, but it looks like we’re in for an appearance by the melting bunny of death instead. Heart-ache.

Update: My prediction for the final vote, as of 10:52: 224-211.

Update: It was closer than I thought: 220-215, 39 Dems voting no and a solitary Republican — Joe Cao, who replaced “Dollar Bill” Jefferson in a blue district in Louisiana — voting yes. Take heart, righties: Reid is incompetent, which makes the likelihood of 60 votes in the Senate, especially after a vote this narrow, very slim indeed.

But for now, we grieve.

So, I went to Mike Arcuri’s (NY-24) website to see what he had scheduled for the Thanksgiving break and his schedule lists all of the “townhall” meetings in August that were not posted when they would have been relevant – in August. How ballsy is that?

Good thoughts Lox, on sending a copy of my note to Hanna.

Bleeds Blue, how do you think this will impact the 2010 and 2012 elections? There is a golden rule, and we all know it – and for you, unfortunately, well lets just say that I would brace yourself for a bitter, brutal, Republican Agenda. The American public is instilled with a palpable rage that I hope they can contain to only an election. Your short sighted view of this issue is the same short sighted view that Democrats in office have – they may have appeased a weak, lazy, poor, minority section of society for a few months, but their hands are greedy. The reprieve Democrats are afforded by this shame of a bill will be used up and digested long before election time. 2010 & 2012 is a long way away, and in comparison to the short memory of the American public….it’s basically an eternity. This bill is designed to coddle the weak, the ones that can’t support their own lives, to create a mother government to rub your back when your are feeling all poopy faced….hold your hand, make you feel warm….here, here is some hot cocoa for your fat lazy liberal ego….

Will this bill lower premiums…no, but let’s say it does…at what cost, EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE. I can answer this for you, because while I intended on being productive before watching football today, instead I am penning a letter to several employees who no longer can be afforded within my company. Healthcare legislation = higher taxes on business + stifled job creation + higher costs for consumers. Remember that.

Fools.

I can understand how liberals believe health care is a right health insurance is a requirement, but why can’t they understand that PelosiCare will hurt the poor and middle class, allow government to come in between patients and their doctors leaving their medical decisions in the hands of bureaucrats, stifle competition, increase costs on premiums and costs of care, kill R&D and odder still, after all their complaining about FISA and the Patriot Act, they have been cheer-leading the health care version of it. They just handed Washington bureaucrats their most private, personal records, which will be made available to the Attorney General upon request, willingly!

And after all the all pro-choice types’ insisting the government stay out of their uteri, they sure don’t mind allowing the government full, unfettered access to their bodies now. Weird!

The Democrats went all in on this bill. I don’t believe the Republicans on the hill did. But the tide is rising out here in the country.I don’t, won’t, believe this will stand. I will fight it with all my being and I know their will be many, many others. It will not stand!

donh525 on November 8, 2009 at 8:06 AM

What are they supposed to do? This bill sucks, but in the House a simple majority wins every time. The fact of the matter is that Dem have a 40 delegate advantage. If the Dems want to pass something in the House, they can.

Initially the vote was supposed to be at 12, then 3pm. Because of the GOP it was pushed to midnight. That’s the extent of their power. The worst part is, the House will remain in their hands. 2010 will be a great year for us, but a 40 seat swing hasn’t happened in decades.

Take heart though. The Dems won in the House by 50.5%. Yeah, that number isn’t entirely correct, because NanNan let Blue Dogs vote no. But either way, the point is, in the senate you need 60% for cloture. And Reid doesn’t have the balls or the skills of Nan Nan.

No wonder I woke up feeling sick this morning. At least the Representative for my congressional district, though a Dem, voted no.

redslippers on November 8, 2009 at 8:21 AM

I wonder if Bleeds Blue, Grow Fins, etc realize this will hurt them the most. They seem like middle class types. And middle class is always the worst hit by Dems schemes. The poor pay no taxes, they will continue paying no taxes. The rich will just move more of their money offshore.

So who is left paying for this monstrosity? Average Joes and Janes making $50k, 60K, $100K a year. And they are also the ones who will see health care suffer. The poor get everything for free as it is. They will keep getting it for free. The rich can go offshore and get services done ASAP if need be. Which once again leaves the middle class with a more costly and yet worse health system.

If these people would only take a few hours away from the Kos kool aid they would probably figure things out.

Personally I am lucky enough to be in the almost-rich category. I have the means and options to move. I will be leaving soon enough. And with a little money health care is as good anywhere in the world as it is in the US.

I do weep for this once great nation though. I knew the end was coming. I didn’t think it would be in less than a year.

K-Lo of NRO posts this graph from a NYT piece:

President Obama, in his pitch to Democrats on the Hill today (from the New York Times):

Mr. Obama, during his private pep talk to Democrats, recognized Mr. Owens election and then posed a question to the other lawmakers. According to Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, who supports the health care bill, the president asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”

I think it will allow us to lose fewer seats than we would have if we’d failed in 2010 and it sets (assuming Senate passage etc.) the stage for Obama’s re-election.

I love this racist, classist part of your rant the most: ” they may have appeased a weak, lazy, poor, minority section of society for a few months….” It suggests that your views are rooted in hate and bitter fear, neither of which is a sound basis for governing; both of which are lovely buttons for demoagogues like Beck and Palin to push.

Along with the AMA, Wal-Mart, major manufacturers and progressives of every income and motivation (including hard-working rich people), I’m pleased that we’ve moved a significant step closer to a rational system of care in the U.S.

I remember back in ’93, when Clinton had the temerity to slightly increase taxes on extremely wealthy individuals, in order to bring the budget closer to balance. Tjheop-ed pages (no blogs then) were filled with vitriolic predictions of economic decline. Of course, what foillowed were years of exopanding prosperity — and those rich folks made a boatload of money, themselves. Your predictions of gloom and failure will propve to be equally irrelevant.

Bleeds Blue on November 8, 2009 at 8:26 AM

I hate this whole system. Its so corrupt! It use to be the greatest but NO MORE! I hate Congress and I hate the President. I am so disillusioned with the lose of my freedom and the higher taxes that will come our way. I am sorry but thy only thing left for us to either take up arms and revolt, or to sit and take it up the ass. F&uck 2010 and 2012 we WON’T survive until then.

Lisa on November 8, 2009 at 8:26 AM

Those wimps in the Senate and their arcane rules may yet screw this up.

Good. Let’s hope that happens.

Better yet, let’s hope the tens of thousands of Americans who said no to this – like the 73% who said health care needs to go on the backburner in favor of the economy – show up in DC and camp on the National Mall until every last one of these miscreants is voted out of office. Or removed by force.

I wonder if Bleeds Blue, Grow Fins, etc realize this will hurt them the most. They seem like middle class types. And middle class is always the worst hit by Dems schemes. The poor pay no taxes, they will continue paying no taxes. The rich will just move more of their money offshore.

No. Because it’s all about power. They get off thinking about the ways they can convict us of felonies and throw us in jail.

Funny thing though, remember that the 2nd Amendment is still in effect and gun sales went through the roof last year. If they think we’re going without a fight, they’ve got another surprise waiting in the wings.

I was pessimistic last night, but this morning I’m optimistic that we’ll send these greedy socialist pigs packing and they’ll rue the day they gave the collective finger to the American people.

While we are at it, what about the media’s complicity in this fiasco? Shouldn’t we direct a little rage in that direction?

While the word ‘minority’ may be defined as ‘black person’ in the liberal dictionary, I actually used it in its classical definition as in ‘the smaller of two groups’. It was predictable, you being a feable minded liberal who resorts to your faith in owning Victicrat status. I have a question for you, how brain washed are you that whenever you see the word minority, you immediately resort to your defensive nature of calling any opposition a racist.

You are like a puppet, I say minority, you say racist. I say conservative, you say racist… I say take your blind fold off, you say ‘no, this welfare is starting to feel good’.

I think it will allow us to lose fewer seats than we would have if we’d failed in 2010 and it sets (assuming Senate passage etc.) the stage for Obama’s re-election.

The mood of the country has shifted. This is going to cost a lot of blue seats if it passes. If this goes through it will be a pyrrhic victory.

Because he couldn’t possibly be referring to a lazy, poor, minority of people that are just lazy, poor, and in a minority because of that? Welfare knows no color. and all this is going to do is make people think “hey, I’m covered! Time to snort some coke off the blade of a knife now!” But, hey, just stick with what you know man. It makes life easier.

Along with the AMA, Wal-Mart, major manufacturers and progressives of every income and motivation (including hard-working rich people), I’m pleased that we’ve moved a significant step closer to a RATIONED system of care in the U.S.

Fixed it. There is nothing rational about this. There are good intentions in some regard, but its a power grab, plain and simple. And no good feelins wrapper can cover up that.

I remember back in ‘93, when Clinton had the temerity to slightly increase taxes on extremely wealthy individuals, in order to bring the budget closer to balance. Tjheop-ed pages (no blogs then) were filled with vitriolic predictions of economic decline. You are forgetting that there was a red congress and house. One that kept government from growing. Taxes go up (revenue), govt says the same size, and people have more faith in our money, debt, and system. I see no reason to believe that Obama will triangulate like Clinton, and I see no reason to think that Congress or the Senate will act as responsibly as they did in the 90s.

Yeah, they do. The Al Sharptons, Jesse Jacksons, and other grievance mongers will be out in force making sure that none of their constituents go to jail for failing to pay up. All it takes is a quick Google search and you’ll find that you can dig up lots of information on people via Google. Including their political leanings.

So you find them, throw them in jail, and suddenly the provisions that felons can’t vote or own firearms (which liberals hate when the felons are part of their voting blocs) won’t apply to conservatives.

With regards to NY-23 it’s a sad day when a congressman comes out with the president and stated his whole campaign was a lie. Pretty soon I don’t think that the people will be able to trust those that run because you won’t know if they are lying or not. So We the People lose with this corrupt system.

I’m going to do what I can to kill this but I don’t have much hope. I think the dems are going to nuke this and there is nothing that anybody can do. If this gets signed by zero we will be in a world of hurt.

englishqueen01 on November 8, 2009 at 8:41 AM

Mr. BleedsBlue: What part of these provisions in the just-passed bill do you not find “racist and classist”?

These summaries were gleaned by Betsy McCaughey in her wsj online commentary about what is wrong with the Pelosi bill. These provisions are top-down mandates for redistribution of wealth and tax dollars, providing non-accountable payoffs to people who do not even pay into the system.

Questionable Priorities:

While the bill will slash Medicare funding, it will also direct billions of dollars to numerous inner-city social work and diversity programs with vague standards of accountability.

• Sec. 399V (p. 1422) provides for grants to community “entities” with no required qualifications except having “documented community activity and experience with community healthcare workers” to “educate, guide, and provide experiential learning opportunities” aimed at drug abuse, poor nutrition, smoking and obesity. “Each community health worker program receiving funds under the grant will provide services in the cultural context most appropriate for the individual served by the program.”

These programs will “enhance the capacity of individuals to utilize health services and health related social services under Federal, State and local programs by assisting individuals in establishing eligibility . . . and in receiving services and other benefits” including transportation and translation services.

• Sec. 222 (p. 617) provides reimbursement for culturally and linguistically appropriate services. This program will train health-care workers to inform Medicare beneficiaries of their “right” to have an interpreter at all times and with no co-pays for language services.

• Secs. 2521 and 2533 (pp. 1379 and 1437) establishes racial and ethnic preferences in awarding grants for training nurses and creating secondary-school health science programs. For example, grants for nursing schools should “give preference to programs that provide for improving the diversity of new nurse graduates to reflect changes in the demographics of the patient population.” And secondary-school grants should go to schools “graduating students from disadvantaged backgrounds including racial and ethnic minorities.”

• Sec. 305 (p. 189) Provides for automatic Medicaid enrollment of newborns who do not otherwise have insurance.

So, basically, no more white people will get funding to go to medical school.

Nope, no racism there.

You sir will not become the sole focus of all the anger and resentment of this bill that I, for one, can direct your way. Everything wrong with the entire Democrat Party and its handling of the nations important issues, is now embodied in your personal presence in DC. It is now all about you, in a way you will not enjoy come November 2010. As of now all of my political energy is focused on the single goal of your defeat, as well as that of as many people as I can influence. 7 Just as the rich rule the poor,
so the borrower is servant to the lender.

Well, we don’t have the money to pay for this, so we’re borrowing it; now just who are we becoming servant too? And are our lenders benevolent or malignant?

Would you liberal morons like to see what your dear friends over at Democratic Underground are saying about this newfound love of Pelosi and the Government? :

For the typically informed

How much will I have to pay every month? Where can I find the information?

BCBS has raised my rates TWICE this year just because they could.

this bill is a joke. Forcing people to buy insurance is not going to contain the costs. Putting a choke hold on the insurance “industry” is what is required.

I’m so mad my hair is on fire. I just emailed Pelosi telling her and the Dems thanks for selling us down the river.

all hail the corporate state.
On Cobra each month, I am glad to see someone else understands that no one out there will be paying NOTHING.

The good thing about the bill is that it means fewer people will be without anything in the way of insurance.

The bad news is that in terms of cost containment, the only cost that was contained was Congress coming up with the notion that to keep the health CR bill affordable, so that the Federal Government pays only 890 Billion bucks, (Over about a six year period) then huge fines will be levied against those who avoid the insurance mandates.

One is left wondering why it is that the insurers get to continue their excessive gauging, and the treatments that people need may still be unaffordable.

This could well be the case for some people whose deductible is costly enough to prevent them from seeking treatment doing without needed health care. Except this time around, you are paying the insurers a premium.

And that my friend is the rub that will make the aftermath of this bill go down in infamy as one of the worst bills passed ever and will not bode well for the coming elections.

Now all you people who can’t afford health insurance (because maybe you’re on unemployment like myself and get less than 2000 a month – living in California where my rent alone is over a thousand) – all you people are now LEGALLY OBLIGATED to pay the insurance companies several hundred dollars a month out of your meager income.
Yeah, lets all party like it’s 1899.

That very same bill also mandates a 10 percent premium limit on people making as little as 33,000 a year Check out the table in the link above – know that the FPL is currently at 10,800 for an individual. That means that if you make 15.85 an hour (not very much for people here in CA where our rents are well over $1200 a month) you can expect to pay $330 a month premium for the new program PLUS you have a $1000 a year deductible.

WTF ?

This isn’t MSM scare – it’s the essential part of the bill – it’s the bill of goods we’re all being sold on.

Ask yourself, why would the House put such harsh penalties into their legislation, unless they already know the insurance corporations plan to raise your premiums sky high and this will compel you to transfer your wealth and equity to the CEO’s in premiums or the government in fines.

Obama promised he would not raise the taxes on the middle class. He also said, during the campaign, that we shouldn’t pay twice as much as any other industrialized country for our health care – he would reduce the costs. This bill throws another trillion towards health care, which will make our health care costs up to THREE times as much as any other industrialized country pays. More Obama lies.

Feel better now simple-bleeds-without-brains?

Good morning. Last night the casting of your AYE vote set you upon a path directly against the guidance and instruction that Mr. Jefferson would have done. The American Medical Association House of Delegates drew up a resolution last night (11/6) which would withdraw their support of the House health care bill. Members are likely to vote on whether or not to withdraw their support of the bill earlier in the week. This action is a result of members within the organization who revolted, when the AMA initially gave the the healthcare legislation its endorsement. President Obama touted the endorsement of the AMA and AARP on Thursday at the White House.

Procedural votes are happening today to attempt to have the resolution’s vote placed on the agenda earlier in the week. The AMA’s House of Delegates is the principal policy-making body of the American Medical Association.

Executive director David Cook of the Medical Association of Georgia sent the Washington Times the latest copy of the resolution drawn up last night at the meeting and explained how the voting would work.:

“[A] vote to make Late Resolution 1006 an item of business at the meeting requires 2/3 vote as it was filed so close to the meeting. That vote will occur this afternoon[Saturday]. If that vote fails, that resolution will not be made an item of business. In the event the vote fails, we should be able to raise the issue.

If the vote to make the Late Resolution 1006 an item of business, the actual resolution will be voted on Monday.”

AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION HOUSE OF DELEGATES

Late Resolution: 1006

(I-09)

Introduced by: Alabama Delegation Arkansas Delegation, Delaware Delegation, District of Columbia Delegation, Florida Delegation, Georgia Delegation, Kansas Delegation, Louisiana Delegation, New Jersey Delegation, South Carolina Delegation, West Virginia Delegation, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Society of General Surgeons, Triological Society

Subject: Withdraw support of HR 3962

Resolved, that the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association rescinds the action taken by the AMA Board of Trustees supporting HR 3962 the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Washington Times

This could get interesting. Or at least embaressing for Obama.

The crap is that they are elitists that were born to rule. Born in a country that does not subscribe to or support the rich elitist class as other countries do. They only want one thing and that is a defined class structure that puts them as the ruling class as intended by their position in life.

Remember the only thing the distinguishes people in this country is cash on hand. Anyone can by a yacht, plane, mansion or go to any restaurant, resort or anywhere. That simple fact of life really and I do mean really grates against them in a major way. Enough that they desire beyond all else to remake this country into the “proper” class structure.

Also remember that in the twisted mind of a liberal they will all be the rulers over the rest of us. The thing they can not comprehend is that 99% of them are nothing more then useful idiots and servants to their elite masters.

RagTag on November 8, 2009 at 8:58 AM

The great irony of this bill is that there is no better way to ensure mediocre healthcare for all Americans (who participate). Above the theories of private and public sectors is a prevailing demand for the best possible service/product. Do liberals assume that they will have access to the same doctors as I do, with their Uncle Sam Insurance? Do Democrats not see that this legislation is a virtual wedge. A wedge that will divide the poor citizens on one side, with the underqualified, dull, average talent doctors with them – and the brilliant, hard-working, dedicated, passionate, caring doctors with their better paying private insurance paying citizens on the other.

The great irony is the death sentence that this legislation gives the people who suckle liberal nipples, and these sub-humans line up to get it like it’s something great. Anything free I guess….anything free…

The Pelosi Bill Was Rammed Through on Saturday, But Sunday’s ComingShare
Today at 2:34am
We’ve got to hold on to hope, and we’ve got to fight hard because Congressional action tonight just put America on a path toward an unrecognizable country.

The same government leaders that got us into the mortgage business and the car business are now getting us into the health care business.

Despite Americans’ decisive message last Tuesday that they reject the troubling path this country has been taking, Speaker Pelosi has broken her own promises of transparency to ram a health “care” bill through the House of Representatives just before midnight. Why did she push the 2,000 page bill this weekend? Was she perhaps afraid to give her peers and the constituents for whom she works the chance to actually read this monstrous bill carefully, if at all? Was she concerned that Americans might really digest the details of a bill that the Wall Street Journal has called “the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced”?

This out-of-control bureaucratic mess will be disastrous for our economy, our small businesses, and our personal liberty. It will slam businesses at a time when we are at double-digit unemployment rates – the highest we’ve seen in a quarter of a century. This massive new bureaucracy will cost us and our children money we don’t have. It will rob Americans of more of our freedom and further hamper the free market.

Make no mistake: we’re on course to have government commandeer one-sixth of our economy. The people who gave us Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now want to run our health care. Think about that.

All of us who value the sanctity of life are grateful for the success of the pro-life majority in the House this evening in its battle against federal funding of abortion in this bill, but it’s ironic because we were promised that abortion wasn’t covered in the bill to begin with. Our healthy distrust of these government leaders made us look deeper into the bill because unfortunately we knew better than to trust what they were saying. The victory tonight to amend the bill and eliminate that federal funding for abortion was great – because abortion is not health care. Now we can only hope that Rep. Stupak’s amendment will hold in the final bill, though the Democratic leadership has already refused to promise that it won’t be scrapped later.

We had been told there were no “death panels” in the bill either. But look closely at the provision mandating bureaucratic panels that will be calling the shots regarding who will receive government health care.

Look closely at provisions addressing illegal aliens’ health care coverage too.

Those of us who love freedom and believe in open and transparent government can only be dismayed by midnight action on a Saturday. Speaker Pelosi’s promise that Americans would have 72 hours to read the final bill before the vote was just another one of the D.C. establishment’s too-common political ploys. It’s broken promises like this that turn people off to politics and leave them disillusioned about the future of their country.

But despite this late-night maneuvering, many of us were paying close attention tonight. We’ll keep paying close attention. We need to let our legislators in Washington know that they still represent us, and that the majority of Americans are not in favor of the “reform” they are pushing. After all, this is still a country “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” We will make our voices heard. It’s on to the Senate now. Our legislators can listen now, or they can hear us in 2010. It’s their choice.

I hope you’re equally busy with something useful or interesting and just doing this for a little fun and venting in between church, a good book or Sunday dinner prep. ‘Cause if your whole life is bitter posts, that would be a little sad.

Sadly, I haven’t time to research Ms. McCaughy’s inaccuracies, but I am certain that there will be aid for white people to go to medical school. That programs might look a little harder at finding qualified minority candidates is fine with me.

Dude seriously, what planet do you live on? I had the misfortune of having to go into a public run hospital in Atlanta not too long ago. If there were 5 white nurses in the joint I’d be surprised.

And you had a work emergency? Come on. If you’re going to lie, make it somewhat belieavble. Nobody here belives you work.

Feel better now simple-bleeds-without-brains?

Well good to know there are some kool-aid drinkers who can think. Too bad the 343s dont fall into that category.

angryed on November 8, 2009 at 9:08 AM

The sad part is there are so many lemmings and not enough kool-aid to go around—-hence the few who actually read the bill and understand it’s a total disaster. Even a common sense liberal can undertand this. What’s scary is the masses of idiots that fell for this and swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. These are the children following the witch (Pelosi), into the house for some free cookies.

Rovin on November 8, 2009 at 9:20 AM

Dear Ted C,

You didn’t vote for me in the past nor will you vote for me in the future. Ergo, I don’t care what you think.

Sincerely,

Tom

LOL…that’s exactly how the Dems lost in 1994. Pleeeeeease keep it up.

ddrintn on November 8, 2009 at 9:20 AM

I am going to write a strongly worded letter to my Senators Webb and Warner for my first time in my adult life. No hope with Webb but Warner seems like he would at least listen to my concerns. Hopefully, this monstrosity does not pass the Senate.
Every single man who voted for this bill should be hounded for the rest of his life for this vote. If they can vote for this monstrosity, what else won’t they vote for? Whither these Blue Dogs ? The Dems hope to make us all slaves, both to them and to the insurance industry with their patently unconstitutional “mandates”. They plan to bankrupt the nation. But I will not be part of this plan. No, sir. Even if it is a lost cause. And this is certainly no lost cause.

nyx on November 8, 2009 at 9:22 AM

Dude. I live in an urban area. The “disadvantaged” youth hanging on corners are in no danger of entering med school, nursing school or probably graduating high school.

Bleeds Blue on November 8, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Holy $hit you libs are stooooopid! You are getting ready to fundamentally change this country’s social makeup and you still think those kids will be left on the street corner?! You’re taking care of their health care, why not give them jobs in the doctors office deciding what health care you get?

And once Obama care starts to cut compensation to doctors, the smartest people will bail from medical school and go to other fields of study. Then the only people willing to be doctors will be the less talented and smart. Of course the liberal universities will dumb down the tests so the dummies can get “A’s”. Those will be your health care providers. Just think of them as glorified Postal employee’s who decide on your care and mhat meds you should get.

Stupid f**king liberals.

All this talk about 2010 elections.
Too late. The cancer has to be removed now.

Prepare for civil war.

There will be two seperate systems. One for us and one for the elites. You can bet on it.

bloggless on November 8, 2009 at 9:15 AM

Well of course. Just like the commies treated their serfs. But it will do my heart good to watch Bleeds Blue and the rest of the lib morons suffer in the “peoples” system.

bloggless on November 8, 2009 at 9:15 AM

There will be? There already is: one for Congress, the elites, and one for the rest of America. The new proposal that was dealt with in the vote last night and has yet to be taken up in the Senate is that the Democrats think that the one for the rest of America should be worse than the one that currently exists.

Bleeds Blue:

Rochester Medical School Class of ’09

“The final class is 55% female and ranges in age from 21 to 35. About 35% of the class is made up of students of African, Hispanic and Asian descent”

Yup, nothing but rich white guys becoming doctors these days.
