WH to Dem strategists: Stop making Fox so … balanced?

posted at 2:00 pm on November 6, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The White House has taken the war on Fox News to a strange new level.  Bitterly complaining that the news channel does not provide a balanced presentation of the issues, the Obama administration has now warned strategists from the Democratic Party that they won’t work with them any longer if the strategists appear on Fox’s programming as guests:

At least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, an outlet that presidential aides have depicted as not so much a news-gathering operation as a political opponent bent on damaging the Obama administration.

Political consultants are a staple of cable television talk shows, analyzing current events based on their own experiences working on campaigns or in government.

One Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, “We better not see you on again,” said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that “clients might stop using you if you continue.”

In urging Democratic consultants to spurn Fox, White House officials might be trying to isolate the network and make it appear more partisan.

For an administration that can’t make up its mind about strategy and resourcing in Afghanistan, they seem to have plenty of time to plot their offensives against Fox.

This shows that the Fox war isn’t about getting balanced coverage.  The fact that they have to threaten fellow Democrats to bully them out of their media appearances on Fox just highlights the fact that Fox airs their views — which undermines their public argument about Fox.  What they want to do is to suck up to the Fox-haters on the Left in order to give them a weird sense of power, apparently the only way they can do it, since the hard-Left agenda isn’t moving through Congress.

It’s counterproductive in another way as well.  Their very public campaign undermines the credibility of those networks on which the strategists do appear.  It’s no accident that Fox News blew away all of the other cable news outlets on Election Day this week, drawing more viewers than all of them combined.  The White House has practically anointed them as the only net truly independent of the Obama administration, making the rest of the nets look like toadies.  Chasing Democrats off of Fox News will only make that trend accelerate.

It’s good to see the White House interested in fighting someone.  Maybe eventually they’ll get around to America’s enemies.

Maybe eventually they’ll get around to America’s enemies.

The only enemies this White House sees are fellow Americans.

Do you ever see them get the least bit upset regarding foreigners?

Of course not. They don’t threaten the power of Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats.

And power is all these people care about. They certainly don’t care about the American people, they’ve made that clear.

Republican-Americans are public enemy #1, according to the corrupt and incompetent Obama “administration”.

That’s a zinger of a line, a scathing indictment of Obama, and unfortunately for the country it’s right on the money. This doesn’t really qualify legally for impeachment (my opinion) but it is morally in the same league. Absolutely infuriating.

The Administration is coming unraveled–and fast.

Fox News is biased, other outlets not.

It’s okay to jump to conclusions when abortionists are shot or black professors arrested, but not when a jihadist in uniform butchers servicemembers (or when ACORN employees attempt to perpetrate tax fraud with underage prostitutes).

Flying to Europe to pitch Chicago Olympics, good; flying to Europe to celebrate liberation from Soviet political oppression, bad.

10.2%?! Good grief.

And then there’s Tuesday’s elections, which the Dems won, according to Madame Speaker.

Have I touched on everything from this week thus far?

Let this be, with Fox. It’s a beauty to watch such ‘smarties’ fail so blatantly.

No one on the right is asking for MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, the NYT, Newsweek, and etc. to be “fair and balanced”.

This is all just too funny. Keep it going smartypants.

This is only going to get worse, especially when we dump some trash in the mid terms. Every single friggin day we are going to hear nothing except Fox news and the Republicans are blocking everything, remember they are the party of no, blah, blah.

Angry Dumbo on November 6, 2009 at 2:16 PM

In a fast-breaking development comes word that agents of the Attorney’s General office in Louisiana have raided ACORN’s offices in New Orleans. ACORN’s New Orleans was, for decades, the headquarters of the national community organizing association. News of the raid comes from Marcel Reid and her colleagues at ACORN 8, an association of former ACORN leaders and board members. Many of the individuals involved with ACORN 8 were fired from ACORN for demanding a forensic audit following an embezzlement scandal involving Dale Rathke, brother of ACORN co-founder Wade Rathke.

OT:

Nov. 6, 2009 – Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has directed a moment of silence throughout the Defense Department today to honor the victims of yesterday’s attack at Fort Hood, Texas.

Twelve people were killed and 30 others were wounded when Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan allegedly opened fire in the post’s Soldier Family Readiness Center. One of the wounded victims died overnight, bringing the death toll to 13. Malik was wounded and is in custody, Army officials said.

The attack occurred at 1:34 p.m. CST yesterday, and Defense Department personnel around the world will pause and mark the moment of silence at that same time today, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said. For example, those in the U.S. Eastern time zone will observe the moment of silence at 2:34 p.m. local time, while those on the West Coast will observe it at 11:34 a.m.

He has to finish his enemies off first.

Just as Deniro just had to return to the hotel to finish off Waingro when he was set to get away with his heist, ….Obama can’t help but return to try to finish off Fox. Hopefully this tactic destroys his political strength for good.

Not to go along with the thread jacking, but there was another shooting today in Orlando, Florida. Some nut went ballistic; 2 dead and 8 injured (last I heard). SWAT teams were out looking for the gunman.

I have co-workers in that building. The shooter worked for a lawfirm that had layoffs and he went ballistic. The security in the building isn’t that great. That will change.

They did apprehend the shooter. OPD and SWAT did an outstanding job. That’s a huge building with a 6 floor parking garage. The shooting took place one floor up from my office.

President Jimmy Nixon

I take “Jimmy Nixon” over Obama any day. At lest there would be some competence, minus the accusations of racism every time you critize the president.

Can we now coin the term Obamanism.

I suggest that it contains the dictatorial aspect of fascism with a reverse on nationalism. A sort of antinationalistic dictatorship. Of course no such system can barely survive for long.
