Beck’s a couple steps ahead of them in terms of marginalization. His sense of humor at himself contains a strategic element too; Beck laughing at a skit mocking him defuses any impact it might have had. The point of most of these liberal attacks is to anger or provoke the target; I like how Beck knows that and counters it by not being riled.

Yeah, not only does he have a good sense of humor, but he is funnier in under 140 characters than Stewart is in over 8 minutes.

I’m sure he’ll get a good laugh out of it –good point about not busting a stitch.

True comedy brings out genuine laughter from the audience. The courtesy laughter from the Daily Show crowd wasn’t very convincing.

Very good point. One quibble though, Beck correctly cites Bloom saying, “We kinda agree with Mao that political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun”, but none of the followup from this can back up that this is unequivocal Mao “worship” or some other term. It’s a very Hobbesian POV as well. One can agree with Hobbes and Mao in this extent, and not be a follower of the general message. So, yes, Beck can properly cite it and show it, but that doesn’t make it the unequivocal meaning of Bloom’s statement.

Of course, I in no way let Bloom off the hook. What is more telling to me is that the “Czar” Obama appointed for manufacturing jobs says the “free market is a joke”. Forget trying to nail him down with Mao–Dunn was a slam dunk with “favorite political philosopher” and “I turn to most”, but Bloom’s agreement is somewhat equivocal, to strain at making into the chief association. But his statement about the free market is a much more revealing statement and central statement. The Mao quote suggests a little more when paired with this–but the guilt by association with Mao is not as strong.

So Beck can cite it, and play it, but I sometimes question his ability to put the proper weighting onto things. Although, I’m a skeptic of the classic optimism about free-markets, I can’t imagine saying that free market is “a joke”.

The sad thing is the number of people who might think it says anything about what Beck actually does. By making this all about internal organs, they are comparing a specialists’ domain, governance should not be a specialists’ domain.

In addition, the one disclaimer that Beck usually makes is that he’s not a journalist and didn’t go to journalism school. If anybody knows a situation where their life depended as much on the knowledge of journalists as it did on an internists, I’ll visit that person’s grave.

It’s funny that Stewart trusts that we’re smart enough to get the joke, but not smart enough to just leave the direction of a representative government up to the specialists who “know better” or the journalists with degrees to certify that they are professional journalists.

I enjoyed the cleverness of how they made it sound like Beck–but I have to say it’s nothing like Beck. It’s just more liberal paradigm, more liberal assumptions shoved down our throats.

So Sesame Street also makes fun of CNN (GNN) and everyone is obsessing over Pox News?

I have only seen the Oscar the Grouch scene…. And CNN is completely irrelevant as a news source. They are whole owned and operated by the government. Making fun of them is like making fun of themselves.

It is just very scary when a children’s program takes marching orders from the whitehouse.

But why should I be surprised all the networks agreed to change all the story plots to promote Obama’s policies… It is just sad to see propaganda everywhere in America today.

As for being clueless, you haven’t really done anything this whole thread other than complain about how other people “just don’t get” whatever it is you are trying to say. I read plenty of sites other than this one. I’m a particular fan of Ace, Tiger Hawk, and Instapundit, as well as National Review, but I follow links wherever they go, which tends to be a lot of places, since Reynolds links to pretty much everything. If you have particular favorites that can articulate the things I am supposed to “get” better than you have here, I’d be happy to know what they are.

think with the headlines, its generally understood that they are not endorsed by the site. AP and Ed shouldn’t have to go fact-checking everyone else’s work – posters know (or should know) that the articles linked to by hot air don’t necessarily represent their views, and are only as accurate as their source.

I hate what has happened to Seaseme Street. They were always liberal… but now they are vicious indoctrinators.
PBS gets tax money. So we pay them to poison children’s brains against the only news that takes on un-checked power elites.

It just makes me sad… to think our culture has sunk so low as that.

For what it’s worth, the big-bird clip was NOT the actual sesame street clip. That was a tonight show parody of it. They dubbed over big bird’s voice with all the stuff about tea partiers. The real clip was something apolitical I think, something about eating healthy and gardening.
