Video: Jon Stewart reveals the plot against Glenn Beck

posted at 6:32 pm on November 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

In a different age, SNL would have covered this ground weeks or months ago; as it is, they can’t even field a decent impression of the president anymore. Like many SNL skits, this is twice as long as it should have been, but … it has its moments, especially when Stewart apes Beck’s mannerisms. Too bad he’s not more of an impersonator or else he could have taken a shot at that Kermit voice Beck does when he wants to mock people he disagrees with.

One glaring flaw: Not nearly enough props.

Pretty funny!

I enjoy being a sick, twisted freak to much to let Jon Stewart ruin it for me.

fourdeucer on November 6, 2009 at 7:26 PM

Last time I checked Glenn Beck didn’t represent a whole “political perspective.terryannonline on November 6, 2009 at 7:23 PM

I was speaking of Stewart and his show, Terry.

Dr. Carlo Lombardi on November 6, 2009 at 7:27 PM

It ain’t ‘comedy’ when it’s just a stream of snarkiness and sarcasm designed to relentlessly proselytize for one political perspective and attitude. It’s called propaganda.

Dr. Carlo Lombardi on November 6, 2009 at 7:20 PM

Precisely. Thank you.

Django on November 6, 2009 at 7:27 PM

The politics is the reason.

I admit Jon Stewart is less reluctant to mock people on his side of the ideological spectrum. However, that doesn’t mean every once in a while he doesn’t hit the nail in the head when it comes to criticizing our side.

terryannonline on November 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM

As a regular Beck watcher… this was really pretty funny. He does a relatively good Beck impression considering he’s not an impressionist. I laughed. I’m sure Glenn would get a kick out of it.

Dark Eden on November 6, 2009 at 7:24 PM

It is the INTENT that is the problem, not the content. He’s mocking Beck so that the uneducated believe that what Beck says isn’t true.

njpat on November 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM

Napolitano is much more conservative then Beck, no doubt about it!

The Dean on November 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM

But wouldn’t that make Glenn Beck, who often uses “snarkiness” and sarcasm…a propagandist?

DanStark on November 6, 2009 at 7:23 PM

I wouldn’t think so. Beck makes a claim, and then provides evidence to support the claim. His sarcasm is directed at actual hypocrisy and lies. There is a difference imo.

Itchee Dryback on November 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM

I think it’s hilarious. Beck’s style is over the top. I’ll bet ten bucks Beck shows this on his show when he gets back. OTOH, Beck has the scalps to prove his substance. His latest scoop on the Harvard study of outgoing radiation is yet another one. AGW computer models missed it completely.

What does it say about our society when a shock jock hovering on the brink of insanity does some of the best reporting in a nation saturated with media outlets and supposed media professionals?

inviolet on November 6, 2009 at 7:35 PM

this clip is funny for some of the mannerisms that he imitates – but I agree with NjPat – it tries to brush way Obama’s marxist connections as nothing more than Beck’s paranoia.

Any one who has even had a cursory knowledge of his early life, and his outlook knows that Obama has a strong Marxist philosophy. Beck is laying it out for every one to debate on it.

But all that Jon FakeLastName tries to do is to “make fun” – especially when the man is ill.

Stay classy Jon Stewart or what ever your real name is.

The libs don’t bother wasting their time doing research, they believe what the TV tells them, so if a comedian mocks Beck they feel like Beck is a joke, and that is their intent, to make Beck a joke when he is not.

njpat on November 6, 2009 at 7:39 PM

terryannonline on November 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM

When did this happen?
I stopped watching Stewart about a year ago. He and Colbert were entertaining. I really liked Colbert from the old Strangers With Candy days. His humor was much more creative and varied. Now both have become so predictable in the scope and content of their shticks, that I can’t find the interest to watch anymore. I tube was tuned to comedy central a couple of days ago, and when the Stewart show started, it was like a time machine set at a couple years ago.
I really don’t understand how people don’t notice this.

katy the mean old lady on November 6, 2009 at 7:41 PM

The whole idea of mocking Beck for Jon Stewart and his Daily Show is to get across, to those who may not have already formed a negative opinion of Beck, the idea that this guy Beck, that you hear about, the guy that is accusing obama of being a socialist, of being unAmerican, of having ties to communists, is just a crazy dufus, and I, Jon Stewart, will demonstrate this by exaggerating all his mannerisms so that you can clearly see how much of a idiot this guy is – and hopefully, by extension, anything he might say about our leadership in Washington.

So, don’t take this guy, Glenn beck seriously. I wouldn’t mock him like this unless he deserved it, and he wouldn’t deserve it unless he was the crazy windbag I humorously make him out to be. So rest easy, if you hear this guy say anything else untoward about our great president, please disregard considering the source.

ynot4tony2 on November 6, 2009 at 7:44 PM

It’s okay, but parodies of Glenn Beck are like parodies of Regis Philbin or Gilbert Gottfried. When you’re so purposely stylized and over-the-top, no one else can do a better you than you, and there really isn’t any reason for anyone else to, except to get an easy laugh.

I rarely watch the Daily Show, but I caught this piece. I thought it went from amusing to kinda pathetic. The writing was mostly lame IMO, but it had potential. Stewart should have handed off the impersonation duties. Is Frank Caliendo available? He’d be an awesome Beck.

I LOVE Glenn Beck and think he makes awesome points USING those exaggerated mannerisms. If he weren’t a little manic he’d be another factually correct, staid, middle aged white man. As it is he makes his points in an entertaining format. Kinda like the conservative version of Jon Stewart, not to put too fine a point on it, except Glenn has the advantage of being right about 95% more than Jon.

I also think there are lots of things to be serious about. Someone making fun of someone who’s intentionally exaggerating for comic effect in the first place wouldn’t be my choice for first place.

Nor, I would dare to venture a guess, would Glenn himself. I hope he doesn’t watch this right away cause he’s got a slammin’ sense of humor and, as Katy pointed out, I’m afraid he’ll bust a stitch or two laughing.

inviolet on November 6, 2009 at 7:50 PM

It’s pretty funny, but something really bugs me about this…

A lot of people are watching Beck very closely or they wouldn’t be able to incorporate so many things he does in to a parody… Yet the substance of what he talks about isn’t even argued.

So, all of these liberals are watching his show for parody ideas, and are just too stupid to wake up while they’re watching it? I just don’t get how they can sit there for material, yet ignore all of the radical ties Obama has.

I the answer is that these types of people are Marxists at heart as well. Like Obama they would deny it, but unlike Obama they probably believe their own denials… at least he’s lying and not stupid.

I love how Stewart equates awareness and knowledge with a a PHD as if the common man is completely ignorant to the great scam which is being perpetrated upon him. How dare you read the Constitution, the Federalist Papers or the Creature from Jekyll Island and contrast it against the illegal behavior of the Washington elite? In Our case Republic means ruled by Law.

A republic
is a form of government in which the head of state is not a monarch[1] and the people (or at least a part of its people)[2] have an impact on its government.[3][4] The word ‘republic’ is derived from the Latin phrase res publica which can be translated as “a public affair”.

Allah has been critical of Beck and Palin. However, I have never read anything he has written that is unfair towards them.

terryannonline on November 6, 2009 at 9:36 PM

I think we all get that he is poking fun at Glenn Beck. Well I love Glen & still got a kick out of it, some of his mannerisms ARE funny! My guess is that Glen will get a kick out of it too, he is humble enough to laugh at himself.

And if he wasn’t a force to be reckoned with, Stewart wouldn’t be doing a bit on him. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery & it wasn’t mean-spirited, just kind of silly. So why not laugh if you think it is funny, there is enough going on to be grim about, imo. Praying for a speedy recovery for Glen. We love ya buddy!

It’s funnier when Glenn Beck does it.

You obviously need to read thing other than at hotair. Allah misses the point constantly…particularly when it comes to Beck and Palin. I’d even venture to say he/she spreads falsehoods.

Really? What falsehoods would those be?

Go do some REAL research instead of taking someone else’s take on the news.

LOL–well that bit about throwing you over his shoulder made me have to fan myself…

Want examples? This site is very similar to the left. Subtitles for Palin include “emotional” a typical put down for a woman and pictures of a photo shoot with Glenn Beck being emotional. Neither served a purpose of providing “news,” they were both meant to draw readers to a conclusion that was the “writer’s” perception with no fact.

I read this 7 times and I still can’t figure out what you’re trying to say.

Proud Rino on November 6, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Bet the funny man is one of these who like to say, “Oh, if people had only been warned and stood up to Hitler…!”

Well, he brought the H word up first.

Beck may be one the folks who are warning us. Or maybe not. Doesn’t hurt to listen. Also, Van Jones wasn’t thrown under the bus because of a 60 Minutes expose.

When did I accept anyone’s take on anything? I asked a simple question: what falsehoods were you referring to?

Am I supposed to research your claims? Forgive me, but isn’t it customary for the person making the accusation to provide evidence to support it?

If you know what is going on, it is simple. Search the site for Palin and Beck articles…it should tell you something if you compare it to real world examples.

Michelle Malkin is a blog, and so is Big Government. However, when they frame an argument, it is quite different.

njpat on November 6, 2009 at 9:56 PM

Sometimes funny, but mostly boring.

Has Stewart ever goofed on Olbermann for a segment?

Also, I don’t know which exact post you are talking about with the “emotional” headline for Palin, but whether or not it was used as put-down, how would that possibly be “spreading falsehoods”?

And I have seen clips with Beck being tearing up. Regardless of what you think of Beck, surely tearing up counts as being emotional. Unless perhaps it was just allergies?

Look up the posts when Palin left her position as governor. Subtitle—”emotional.” I’ll bet you my retirement.

Yes, different people have different opinions. What’s the point? I don’t see what any of this has to do with spreading falsehoods.

RINO in Name Only on November 6, 2009 at 10:03 PM

This is probably easily my favorite DS segment in over a year now. The impression was dead-on.
