Quotes of the day

“Doing this work you have to make sure that you have good supervision and good support from your colleagues. There’s good evidence that therapists can be vicariously traumatised by hearing these terrible stories and develop some of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. They may have distressing thoughts about the trauma they have been exposed to; although they have not been through the original traumatic event themselves they are suffering nevertheless. That’s a well-recognised phenomenon.”

“Jose Padilla, the owner of Hasan’s apartment complex, said Hasan gave him notice two weeks ago that he was moving out this week.

“Earlier this week, Hasan asked Padilla his native language. When Padilla said it was Spanish, Hasan immediately went up to his apartment to get him a Spanish-language Quran. Padilla said Hasan also refused to reclaim his deposit and last month’s rent, surrendering $400 that the major said should go to someone who needed it.”

I like LTC Peters, but believe he overstates his case on many occasions. I saw the interview, and believe this is one of them. I don’t disagree with his assertions, simply a portion of the delivery. He has a tinny voice.

ted c on November 6, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Now the liberals introduce us to this new discovery of second-hand post-traumatic stress disorder. Shouldn’t we all have this disease after hearing all the horror stories coming from the media, and can we blame the media and Hollywood for the affliction when we come down with it?

Koranic Islam is not compatible with Western Civilization.

It took us many centuries and many bombed buildings and many shot up malls, stores, and posts, but we finally figured it out.

Either we change our idea of western civilization, or they change their uniform adherence to the Koran.

It’s one or the other.

you don’t like his ‘tinny’ voice?

wow.

I actually think he makes a great case for his argument. the point about Hasan arguing with the soldiers was actually a good point.

This pretty much sums it up…

Now watch our political leaders dither while we bury our dead.

Maybe it will take a million or so to die before we hang all those who are politically correct and put our lives in this jeopardy…

Seven Percent Solution on November 6, 2009 at 10:07 PM

How many people have to die before we stop bowing to PC? Daily we lose liberty, generational financial security and even physical safety because we are afraid of being called a racist. We allow them to label us.

My apologies, I saw the interview and just thought that I agree, but Ralph is more convincing to me when I read what he writes. When I see him interviewed, he is simply less convincing. Definitely not unconvincing, but less convincing in the interview medium.

For those who aren’t convinced that we have a major islamist problem in the military, here’s a post from from star20 from the other thread…

Investors Business Daily (USA’s BEST Editorial Page!) has a good column titled; “Jihad’s 5th Column,” in tomorrow’s paper. Here is a partial list of Hasan’s brothers in Jihadist lunacy;

“* Navy Signalman Hassan Abujihaad last year was convicted of tipping off al-Qaida to battle group movements in the Persian Gulf, including disclosing classified documents detailing the group’s vulnerability to terror attack.

• Army reservist Jeffrey Battle in 2003 pleaded guilty to conspiring to wage war against the U.S., confessing he enlisted “to receive military training to use against America.”

• Army reservist Semi Osman in 2002 was arrested for providing material support to al-Qaida and pleaded guilty to weapons charges after agreeing to testify against other terror suspects.

* Marine Abdul Raheem al-Arshad Ali trained at a suspected al-Qaida camp and was charged with selling a semi-automatic handgun to Osman.

• Army Sgt. Ali Mohamed trained Green Berets at Fort Bragg’s elite special warfare school before stealing military secrets for al-Qaida and helping plan bombings at three U.S. embassies in 1998.

• Army Spec. Ryan Anderson in 2004 was convicted of leaking military intelligence to al-Qaida terrorists, including sensitive information about the vulnerabilities of armored Humvees.

• Army sniper John Muhammad was put on death row after fatally shooting 10 in the nation’s capital a year after 9/11.”

Peters is dead-on right. The JAG officer who nailed Dr. Phil was right. Military people know you can’t afford to deal in hypothetical mumbo-jumbo, the way liberals do. You have to understand the situation you are in and take out the enemy. Anything else and you wind up dead.

I have been in combat and heard combat stories for forty years. I’m undergoing PTSD counseling, right now. PTSD isn’t contagious! You don’t get it from somebody else!

There’s good evidence that therapists can be vicariously traumatised by hearing these terrible stories and develop some of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Right. Just like children who hear Hansel and Gretel turn into cannibals.

I’ve actually seen several fatal auto accidents. That’s why I’ve wrecked my car in fatal accidents so many times.

My friend told me about the smell when replacing the toilet in one of his bathrooms – made me throw up on the floor.

While in college I interviewed a bunch of criminals on parole about their crimes for a study I was doing. I was at it for months. Afterward, I became a crack addict.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

jaime on November 6, 2009 at 10:24 PM

Buddahpundit on November 6, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking. Let us review our past a little & see how in the world these things evolve into either castastrophic events or a ficticious crisis.

Case in point ————-

How were we introduced to other cutting edge catch phrases from the far left and the SRM — like — “Global Warming” became “Climate Change” begat Carbon Credits begat CO2 is now a polutant —-> in preparation of ripping us off toward the now Cap & Trade bill before congress.

From thin air these new calamities befall us with what scientific proof or more likely heresay.

Now they are going to try and sell the PTSD to us on a guy that never say a day of combat & probably never would have.

There’s good evidence that therapists can be vicariously traumatised by hearing these terrible stories and develop some of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

This is getting so pathetic as to be beyond words. According to these liberal maniacs, half of the people watching horror movies are being traumatised. Meanwhile, these same liberals intentionally work at traumatizing little children with their asinine ideas about killing industry and suicidal self-hate in calling to strike humanity from the Earth (to return it to its “natural” state).

Modern liberals are despicable, lying scum who don’t have a shred of honesty or decency to them. (That one’s for you, Chuckles)

Though I don’t agree with applying it to this scumbag.

The disorder is real. Just read up on Predator pilots. They work basically a 9-5 job and go home at the end of their day. After piloting an arm drone on the other side of the world killing bad guys and seeing fellow soldiers die on the battlefield.

They have gone through great amounts of vicarious combat stress and then they have the every day chores and confrontations each of us has.

When I was first in the middle east, in the early 80s… I came to a very interesting conclusion…

You could be talking to people there… they would be rational and coherent… and suddenly you’d make one wrong remark, and it would be like a switch flipped in their head… they would suddenly become irrational and totaly unforgiving of any other viewpoint…

It could be gays… or equal rights… or Freedom… or just about anything we think of as Western thought… the subject would change from individual to individual… but there was often that subject that they would just plain be irrational about… and that subject often had religious roots…

Add to that the fact that they do not, as a culture, hold life as sacred as we do… and you have an explosive mixture…

They cannot allow black and white world views, so the defense of Islam and terrorists as freedom fighters is essential – despite the oppression of women, despite the mutilation of minors, and despite domestic terrorism.

This is one of the most important points about arab culture (and other cultures that develop through life in very rough and unforgiving areas) that Westerners don’t seem to understand but need to know. This hair-trigger is dangerously attached to their shame/revenge foundation and it forms the core of what makes them so dangerous and unstable. But, Westerners take the view that everyone is the same, like the West – the ultimate cultural arrogance and weakness.

If this guy really was a Jihadist, a raging Islamic fanatic, then you know what means — that maybe Bush was RIGHT, maybe we ARE at war, maybe we DO have an enemy, maybe there ISN’T moral equivalence, etc.. That road leads only to madness. They must come together in their convolutions of psychobabble and victimhood and excuse-making. It’s a matter of survival — their own. They will drag the rest of us and our society into total howling madness before they make an admission against interest. Selfish isn’t an adequate word for this — call it maniacal, consuming and destructive righteousness.

Koranic Islam is not compatible with Western Civilization.

What aspect of Islam isn’t based on the Koran?

There are millions of Muslims living peacefully in America.

“suicide bombers are not from the middle of the bell curve”

Heh!!!

I think Peters does a good job of calling this exactly what it is…..

….a terrorist act by a radical muslim.

If Hasan had used a bomb instead of guns, would we still be having this debate of whether it was a terrorist act or not????

5:60 Allah turned unbelievers into apes and swine.

Sorry. Wrong verse.

Lanceman on November 6, 2009 at 10:59 PM

The Question is,will Hasan be the poster boy for a muslim
that is not a fanatic,or devoute follower of Islam, and will
CAIR and the Liberal Party,

use Hasan as a good, typical muslim, that was pushed over the
edge by mysterious forces that so far are unclear, except for
the killing of US Soldiers,

and will Hasan be the “Moderate” that Leftys claim can be
turned into TERRORIST’S!!!!

Ahhhh….. now I get it. Political correctness…It’s like running with a sharp object, it’s all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out.

As a therapist I feel traumatized by the victimization nonsense arising out of this tragedy.
How many other mass murders can you think of being committed by military psychiatrists against their own brethren in arms? Time’s up.
This line of analysis is stooooopid!
There is no need to look under a rock when the culprit is sitting there sunning himself.

There’s good evidence that therapists can be vicariously traumatised by hearing these terrible stories and develop some of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

So does that mean we all have carte blanche to open fire in public places? I’ve heard some pretty horrible things in my time, too.

I’m in with Victor Davis Hanson on this Muslim religion. Hanson wrote a great article on Pajamas Media. It is a must read.

What aspect of Islam isn’t based on the Koran?

And therein lies the problem.

There are millions of Muslims living peacefully in America.

David2.0 on November 6, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Muslims are attacking America from every angle possible. Further, many of those “peaceful” muslims are contributing time, effort and money to terrorists all over the world and are actively working against the interests of the US. In Europe they are cowing the Europeans into a corner and about to start ramming the Koran down their throats. In Turkey, they have been unleashed by the moronic Europeans’ dictate to change their Constitution to remove the secular military as the supreme power, so that Turkey can now drift back into islamist status, killing one the of the most effective bridges betweed the West and Islam that had existed.

The arab/persian/muslim world is in a full attack on the West, from every angle they can think of, and this all starts and stops with control of the gulf oil fields.

So let’s shout-out this: muslims/turds…one and the same!

Bill O uses this to claim his show is only one to correctly cover this story. I can not stand Bill O. He is a braggart. He should make that the word of the day.

The spin on this tragedy by the press is incredibly ignorant.

This is a good example of the 9/10 mentality that we are dealing with right now.

Our intelligence and security officials busted a muslim radical that received training in al-qaeda camps in Pakistan.
They apparently wanted to blow up mass transit systems:

NYC Terror Plot Suspect Zazi Contacted by Al Qaeda’s Afghan Head
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,566222,00.html

NEW YORK — The airport shuttle driver accused of plotting a bombing in New York had contacts with Al Qaeda that went nearly all the way to the top, to an Usama bin Laden confidant believed to be the terrorist group’s leader in Afghanistan, U.S. intelligence officials told The Associated Press.

Al-Yazid’s contact with Zazi indicates that Al Qaeda leadership took an intense interest in what U.S. officials have called one of the most serious terrorism threats crafted on U.S. soil since the 9/11 attacks.

U.S. intelligence officials and prosecutors have said that Zazi was recruited and trained by Al Qaeda.
They say he and others traveled last year to Pakistan to receive the training.

Prosecutors say Zazi, during meetings with federal investigators before his arrest last month, “admitted that he received instructions from Al Qaeda operatives on subjects such as weapons and explosives” during his trip to Pakistan.

What type of reaction do we get from the “moderate muslim community”…..

….press conferences condemning the extremist practices of radical muslims….NO.

……Protest in the streets condemning the actions of muslim jihadist who are planning major attacks against American citizens…..NO.

……Muslim groups coming to the forefront to help authorities track down and eliminate the radical elements of Islam they claim do not represent them….NO.

This is what we get:

Muslim New Yorkers Protest Alleged Racial Profiling
http://freedetainees.org/7116

By: NY1 News

Muslim New Yorkers and civil rights advocates took to the streets in Queens Saturday to protest alleged racial profiling by law enforcement.

Citing recent raids and increased surveillance of their communities, they rallied against what they call unfair targeting of Muslims.

The nonprofit group Desis Rising Up and Moving organized the protest outside the Flushing Public Library.

“An entire community and people and religion should not be profiled or characterized as terrorists because of certain investigations,” said DRUM Executive Director Monami Maulik. “We understand that investigations should happen but they should happen in a manner that’s lawful and respects people’s dignity and due process rights.”

Naiz Khan, seen above, a Muslim Queens resident, said he was placed under FBI surveillance after befriending Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan immigrant accused of plotting a terror attack here in the city.

It will go a long way in establishing the credibility of the “moderate muslim” if they would start condemning and protesting against the muslim extremist instead of the people that are busting their a$$’s in trying to stop them.

Thanks Monica but follow the link to http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/barney-frank-present-during-marijuana-bust for real funny audio of Frank claiming he does not know what Maryjane looks like. He says the place was isolated and he had no idea what those plants in the side yard were. Right.

This Colonel gets it. I sure hope word spreads. Islam is a Governmental Institution of hate it is not a Religion in any traditional way. It is Atheist Communism government. To practice it you must do all you can to make your country Muslim and violence is encouraged as the best way to do it along with lies that you want peace. Peace only until you are strong enough to overthrow the Government and have Islamic Government take over.

Four Muslim extremists arrested over plot to bomb synagogue and shoot down planes. The suspects are accused of planning bomb and missile attacks in New York to punish America for killing Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Jewish Center attacked by Muslim extremists in Mumbai.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — A gunman opened fire Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport while standing in line at the ticket counter of Israel’s El Al Airlines, officials said, killing two and wounding four others before an airline security officer shot him dead.

Authorities identified the gunman as 41-year-old Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, who came to the United States from Egypt in 1992 and had been living in Irvine, California, for the last two years

I could go on and on. Granted, white supremacists have attacked Jews, but it is nowhere near the scale of what Muslims do to Jews. It’s not just synagogues, especially outside the US.

I do believe people can develop some, not all, but some aspects of PTSD through hearing second hand the horrors others have experienced.

However, based on my experience of people with real PTSD, they have involuntary reactions to certain triggers. They do not spend a few weeks planning a massacre. Hasan’s actions at Fort Hood were the result of premeditation. This was not an involuntary, spontaneous, emotional reaction. He thought about it. He planned it. He chose what to do.

The PTSD excuse being floated in the MSM is a shameless fabrication and does an incredible injustice to those who have experienced truly horrific events and actually suffer from real Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
