Oh my: Public now opposes ObamaCare, 45/53

A tip o’ the hat to CNN for gamely trying to spin one of the most gruesome polls for ObamaCare that we’ve seen this year — so far. Opposition to The One’s plan is now a clear majority, up seven points since September; the number of Americans who want Congress to either make major changes to the bill, start over on the bill, or scrap the entire effort stands at a combined 72 percent; and the number who say Obama isn’t doing enough to work with Republicans now equals the number who say he is.

CNN’s headline? “Public wants Congress to keep working on health care.”

Fifty-nine percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey say lawmakers should continue working on the legislation, a rise of 6 points since August. But only a quarter say those bills should be passed pretty much as is, with a third suggesting that Congress should make major changes. The poll also indicates that one in four say lawmakers should start from scratch and 15 percent want Congress to stop all work on health care reform…

Six in ten independents say they oppose Obama’s health care proposals,” says Holland. “That’s a nine point increase since October.”

Check out these trend lines. If Blue Dogs were breathing into paper bags on Tuesday night, they’ll need oxygen tanks tomorrow:

Opposition’s actually higher now than it was at the height of townhall mania in August. As for that 72 percent who want — at the very least — major changes made to the bill, what’s interesting about it is the lack of a trend. Compare the numbers now to the same numbers in August and you’ll find that a combined 73 percent were disgusted with the bill then, too. Which means, after two months of hard work and compromise in Congress to hammer out bills in the House and Senate, the number who think only minor changes are now needed has increased by … one percent.

Meanwhile, contain your surprise to find that newly elected Rep. Bill Owens from NY-23 has suddenly decided that he was wrong about the public option during the campaign and that it’s a great idea after all. Exit question: The left keeps assuring us that the big problem with ObamaCare is the lack of a “robust” public option, but how does that square with the CNN poll? Granted, even here, 55 percent say they support it, but we’re a lot closer to having a public option in the final bill now than we were in August — and yet the overall numbers for ObamaCare are that much further into the toilet. What gives?

Nancy Pelosi or the bill?

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

Mark Boabaca on November 6, 2009 at 4:49 PM

Both!!!! It would be a good start.

This will only bring out the wacky even more in Pelosi- an even bigger plastic smile, an even more crazed look in her eye, an even more delusional insistence that “we won.”

I bet the Blue Dogs are having Nancy Pelosi nightmares.

If years after the fact, Hillarycare was deemed unconstitutional, how in the h*ll can this more far-reaching Frankenstein of a bill be considered anything but unconstitutional squared?

Congress, uphold your sworn oath to our Constitution and stop this trainwreck in its tracks.

The more bandaids and cold patch covering this nonsense, the more loopholes via legalese it creates.

The nation is bankrupt. If Congress passes this bill in any form, it is morally and ethically bankrupt.

Seems that AMA “endorsement” announced by Obama wasn’t.

A year since Hopey and Changey got elected…and he still isn’t Presidential material.

coldwarrior on November 6, 2009 at 6:53 PM

Hey, why don’t we encourage the Blue Dogs to follow Dear Leader’s example and vote “present” tomorrow?

The district will probably go red again next year. Don’t buy a house in DC, Owens.

Maybe if Obama started to walk around in a white lab coat…

I think Pelosi knows that this is a suicide mission for the Dems. She doesn’t care, she’s going to be reelected but even if the Dems lose power, they will have advance their progressive agenda to the point of no return. She doesn’t care who she has to take out in the process and that includes members of her own party.

These Blue Dogs need to step up, look at what she’s doing, the power she’s trying to wield and ask themselves, “Do I want to be part of this?”

Gee, why would any American oppose ObamaCare?

Get insurance or go to jail….

I couldn’t believe this when I saw it earlier today. How come this hasn’t gone viral? Ed, AP?

Look at the shell game that House Democrats played when having the CBO “score” their bill: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ODU0NGRhY2FhNDAyZDA4MzAzMDBlZTJiZjM3ZjA4NDM=

A message I just sent to Colorado District 1 House Rep Diana DeGette:

Your Honorable Ms. DeGette,

As an American Citizen and a lifetime tax payer, recently laid off from my job due to the weak economy, I’d like to weigh in on the upcoming vote on healthcare.

The reason I’m out of work now is because of government overregulation and mismanagement of housing, finance, business, and virtually every other aspect of our lives.

The more Government steps in, the worse things become. I frankly can’t imagine why Barney Frank isn’t under indictment for the Fannie Mae debacle, which effictively imploded the housing market, and started this mess. Another feather in the cap of Government regulation.

Then we have big Dick Murtha, playing fast and loose with taxpayer money, corrupt connections, and the Constitution.

I could go on and on. However I expect that, as the Washingtion insider that you are, this isn’t news.

Honestly, even though I’m looking for work, I don’t need any more government “help” or interference in my life with regard to healthcare or cap and trade.

Government can’t effectively manage Cash for Clunkers, Stimulus, Flu Shots, or anything else for that matter. The myth that we’ve “created or saved” jobs, when unemployment continues to rise, is a bald face lie. The only jobs created are government jobs, or short term construction and infrastructure projects.

The People no longer trust their government, for good reason.

During an 8% unemployment trend, we were told that, unless we immediately passed a Stimulus spending bill, we’ll see 10%. Guess what? Bill passes, we’re still screwed – it’s a 10!

If you actually want to do something good for the economy, and We The People, you’ll vote this healthcare bill, and cap and trade for that matter, to it’s death.

Start building your credibility by working on the issues that Americans actually care about: the economy, jobs, lower taxes, etc.

If you don’t, you obviously represent your own self interest, and not the will of the people who you represent.

There’s a reason that Congress has it’s lowest approval rating in over a decade. That alone should make you lay awake at night, like millions of Americans, who are worried about losing their jobs.

If you vote against the will of the people on this issue…

I’d recommend Valerian root and Melatonin to help you sleep at night, while you’re looking for other employment.

Best to you.

On the bright side, maybe this will finally force the Democrats to support completion of the border fence!!!
