Michael Steele to RINOs: “We’ll come after you”
posted at 5:15 pm on November 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
This one’s a day old but still fresh. Think the chairman got the message from what happened to Scozzafava in NY-23? “You’re going to find yourself in a very tough hole if you’re arguing for the president’s stimulus plan,” he warns purple-state Republicans. Um, isn’t there a rather prominent purple-state Republican running for Senate right now who did exactly that? Ben Smith takes a trip down memory lane:
And indeed, Crist’s own “Florida Recovery” website belies the claim. There, he links a “Dear Mr. President” letter he signed with 18 fellow governors, which begins, “We are writing to express our support for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which passed last week in the House and is under consideration currently in the Senate.”
“We support the objectives of ARRA and welcome the partnership it offers us as governors,” the letter says. “We look forward to working with Congress and your Administration to advance an economic recovery package that puts federal dollars to work in our states in the quickest and most efficient manner as possible.”
I’m not sure where this leaves the party right now vis-a-vis Crist. The NRSC stupidly endorsed him back in May, when arguing for the stimulus was still safe, but now in the wake of NY-23 Cornyn’s vowed not to spend any money in Republican primaries. Does that mean the NRSC endorsement is no longer operative? And what does Steele have in mind when he says the RNC will come after fiscally liberal Republicans? Anything concrete or is it just more self-aggrandizing Steele braggadocio? Exit quotation from Gibbs today, commenting on Crist: “I think he was very supportive of the legislation and supportive of the benefits that it would have and has had for the state of Florida.” Click the image to watch.

So I guess Steele doesn’t want to be gored by a RINO horn, eh?
It’s about time the party took a stand on the RINOS. You still aren’t getting any cash from me, though, Steele, nor will the NRCC, until I see some ACTION behind your words.
Florida would be a good start. Rubio>Crist.

Just shut up and go away, Steele. You’ve had far more chances than you deserve, and you’ve muffed them all.
We don’t need a jive-talking conman to promote squishy RINO-ism in the Republican party. We need butt-kicking hard-core conservatives.

If I were chairman, I’d find conservative challengers for these two before sunset and endorse Rubio against Crist in FL, and then announce it to the world.
It’s a no lose situation. None of these three can raise a dime for the party and, in fact, run contributors like me away from it.
If Steele did this, by Monday they’d have to hire 5 new people just to keep up with the money and answer the “Thank God” letters.
TXUS on November 6, 2009 at 5:36 PM
Getting rid of Steele and hiring Fred Thompson would go a loooong way towards reassuring me about success next year.

Careful with the ugly comments about Steele. If he does turn the corner and get conservative we could really use him. We have watched Rick Perry learn a lot in the last couple of years. I think a whole bunch of them learned something last week too and we need to allow them to get used to having a spine once it grows in.

The number one rule of politics is follow the money.
Dede’s traitorous act may have affected the ability for the RNC and the Republican establishment to raise money.
Strangly as this may sound to conservatives it may not have been Palin’s endorsement of Hoffman in which she legitimized his candidacy which directly impacted Steele’s decision to call out RINO’s but Dede’s treachery to support Owens and the Democrats that has become a cause celebre among not only conservative Republicans but perhaps many moderate Republicans as well.
One has to be cognizant of the point that just because Dede decided to abandon her campaign does not mean she had to endorse Owens. On the contrary she could have thrown her support to Hoffman or officially stayed neutral. Sarah Palin did NOT force Dede to become a Benedict Arnold as BA was not forced to become a traitor in the Revolutionary War. It was strictly self-serving on both of their parts that they betrayed their cause.
Steele is learning quickly that conservatives and Republicans despise traitors and this displeasure will ongoing in terms of not sending any more money to the GOP establishment unless the party starts acting more conservative and not backing RINO’s any longer.

You know what, Michael Steele? With all due respect, you acted a lot like a RHINO when you took over the chairmanship.
You may have seen the light, but based on the past several years, I want to see deeds, not lipservice.
gstrickler on November 6, 2009 at 6:03 PM
Was he for RINO’s before he was against them. Will he be for RINO’s after he was against them.
Steele sees the writing on the walls I think. Noone wants him as the RNC leader anymore.

Michael Steele is only trying to save his job as RNC chairman. What he’s saying — it’s all smoke and mirrors to make grassroots believe he’s on their side — but he’s not. When will you people learn. This is the same guy who said a women had a right to abortion (a right to kill her kid) and that homosexuality is NOT a choice. I mean, this guy should NOT be leading the Republican Party. He is part of the problem, not the solution. If real conservatives wanna clean up the Party they should get rid of this two-faced phony and keep liberal saboteurs away from the RNC vetting process.

You can “get” conservative only if you are uneducated in politics, realize your sins and accept the blessing; it is then an incurable dedication. The problem is our government education system. Youngsters come out “democratized”, a shell that is hard to crack. Steele has been around the block and is NOT going to change. You’ll hear his political presentations but he is what he is.
PaCadle on November 6, 2009 at 7:48 PM
All I can say is that he better mean it, because we’ll hold him to this, whether he meant it or not.

Hope he understands it’s worth it in the end though.
