Video: Michelle on schools teaching Obama songs
posted at 8:48 am on November 5, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
How creepy are these videos surfacing of children singing the praises of Dear Leader? A couple of them are more silly than creepy, such as the one you’ll hear that just consists of hosannas set to “Go Tell It On the Mountain” — ironically, a gospel song that in its original form would probably get banned in public schools today for the line in its refrain about the birth of Jesus Christ. Most of them, though, don’t just hail Obama as a generic secular leader but actually praise his policies as well, which sounds like both a personality cult and a political indoctrination at the same time. Michelle, as usual, makes the most solid point of all:
Are test scores in these schools so good that these kids can afford to take this much time off to memorize lyrics praising Barack Obama … essentially for winning an election? It’s precisely this kind of brainwashing that has made an industry out of the home-schooling impulse and fuels the demand for school vouchers and charter schools, where parents have much more control over the education of their children.
As Sean Hannity notes, it does seem more than a little strange that the same schools that shriek at the insinuation of Christian beliefs on their campuses want to make Obama into an object of worship. And thanks for the shout-out, Sean.

In one of the video they weren’t singing obama songs. They were singing songs about famous americans during black history month BACK IN FEBURARY and this became a “story” back in july. Barack obama was in one verse but people who wear tin foil hates wanted to find some demonic about it.
I’m sure that this scenario is the same in other cases too.

If any of these songs mentioned W., the Left would be in hysterics.
Why the hell should any school kids be singing songs praising the current president? At any time. Doesn’t matter if it is Dear Liar in 2009, Reagan in 1981, or, God willing, Palin in 2012.
Especially if they’re taking religious songs and substituting the president for Jesus.

I’m at work so I can’t watch this video so I can’t comment on the content of whatever is in this topic. However I do know when the first one came out where the kids were going “MMM MMM” and it was a purposely edited video and removal of all the other content to make it a political issue when the song in general was about famous americans. In that context, I don’t find it too offensive.
Now if the video above is within a different context, and is not something that is edited to only cut out the obama related parts then yes I agree it’s not acceptable. No argument on that from me. However, given the history of this controversy I have skepticism about the narrative being painted here.

This is why I kept saying that we are treating BO has a normal politician and the simple fact is that he is not. For a great many of the people in this country he is a god incarnate that has come to save us. The evidence of this mentality is everywhere but few want to see it and far to many, even here at HA, defend BO against anything that even hints of personal attack.
Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch about my comment about HA commentators defending him just think back to the contentious threads.
Criticizing him as a normal politician is OK but;
Want to see his birth certificate?
Want to see school records?
Want to see any documentation?
Point out people worship BO?
Point out there is a BO cult following?
Point out people pray to BO.
Drive out this moron because they are damaging the cause and wasting time.
BO has a cult following and is worshiped. It is a fact that far too many just don’t want to accept.

When there is a song, Jesus Loves the Little Children, edited to Obama Loves the Little Children, that is not merely unacceptable, it is indoctrination. It is wrong, wrong, wrong. Especially when done by public school teachers whose union supported The Whine. Can you spell “conflict of interest”?
BTW, what is Dear Liar famous for, other than getting elected? Getting elected itself is a piss poor thing for an accomplishment, Norwegian Peace Prize committee notwithstanding.

As long as the Left can access the minds of our children and reach into every home in America via television, their voice and influence will always be much stronger than their numbers.
This is where the battle for the future of our country must be fought.

Arguable that the polytheistic Greeks and Romans contributed far more to art, culture, science and philosophy than the Christians did for the first 1,500 years of their existence.
But, back to topic: I’m so angry!
Here Michelle Malkin and Sean Hannity have exposed the evil, nationwide effort to indoctrinate children by forcing them to sing Obama hymns, memorize Saul Alinsky and ignore The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. Breitbart is a slacker. There are literally hundreds of thousands teachers forcing six-year-olds to memorize songs like “Barack of Ages” and “My President ’tis of Thee” while spitting on Christmas Cards.
I can’t wait until they’re teens and the get to go to the summer camps and learn how to collectivize agriculture and spy on their parents. And then they’ll be ready for an armed and truly virtuous AmeriCorps.
AH ha hah ha ha ha ha ha ha (evil laugh).
PS: Michelle wee wee’d away what sliver of credibility she might have when she complained the MSM didn’t consider Tuesday a loss for Obama because, as a reader of the MSM, I can tell you that tons of outlets were all over that aspect of the story. Would have been even worse, but conservatives like Michelle and Hannity themselves made NY 23 a cause celebre, thus diluting their own spin.

So you would only avoid teaching Obama-worship songs to children because parents might have a problem with it? That’s interesting.
It’s not just a lack of “good judgement” on display here. If that were the case, we’ed have 11 videos of Bush-worshipping songs to compare and contrast. We do not have that.

What you see in these videos does not in any way qualify as “teaching.” This is what people in the Jones People’s Temple used to do. This is what North Korean children are forced to do. Sing praises at very young ages of the Leader and not step out of line. It’s a form of child abuse.
I disagree. This isn’t just bad judgement. This is a deliberate act.
I think these “teachers” have made a judgment, and it’s that these kids need to grow up worshiping liberal Democrat politicans generally and Obama specifically. The kids have no recourse, of course. They think what they’re told to, and lord help them if they have an inclination of disagreeing or not wanting to participate in the “education.”
Radicalism doesn’t need to be some screening, wild-eyed communist with a bullhorn on a corner screaming obscenities about Republicans and George Bush at passers-by. Brainwashing children at early ages on the taxpayer dime to get them to internalize a particular political agenda is the very definition of a radical policy. This is not “normal” and should not be considered “normal.”
This is child abuse, and it’s what you get with a one-party, union-dominated, public-sector-largess-laden bureaucracy that depends on the government for its own living. When the party of GOVERNMENT! (the Democrats) gets in power, you can expect that some of these people are going to “go the extra mile wink wink” to make sure the government writing their checks knows that the government schools are teaching the “right” messages to young children.

I’m reminded of this documentary, Poliwood, again with this story. The fact is that national politicians are so hyped and choreographed that it is a bit like watching a tent preacher. Conventions are nothing more than the old-fashioned religious revival.

That was the same cry the current Democrats were making throughout the Bush administration.
This time, however, it has the benefit of being, you know, a fact.
Jobs are not being created as a result of this President’s and this COngress’ polices. They’re being killed at the rate of several hundred thousand per month. Bush actually had net job creation for FIVE YEARS every month. The left claimed it “wasn’t good enough.” When the DOW went over 12,000 (boy – those were the days, eh?), the left cried that this was “Wall St, not Mains St.” Bush topped out at maybe 6% unemployment. Around what the Clinton-era number.
Obama is at 9.8% with no signs of it stopping (despite the totally awesome, radically effective, job-creating-machine “stimulus” bill passed in three days with nobody reading it). The stock market, adjusting after layoffs and downsizing throughout the economy, is trying to get back on track. That doesn’t mean GROWTH, though. It means regrouping. With an additional several million now funemployed. On the Democrats’ watch. On Obama’s watch.
Remember when we HAD TO PASS MINIMUM WAGE LEGISLATION as a new Democrat priority when they took Congress back in 2006?
We did. The unemployment rate among the young is the highest it’s been since WWII. The right was pointing out the whole time that the people hardest hit by minimum wage increases are not only job providers, but the young and inexperienced who need those low-paying, low-skill-level jobs to enter the workforce. Well, Democrats, this is a mess you’re creating. Bush is gone, and he wasn’t stupid enough to pass such a stupid policy. The Democrats were and are that stupid.
And what are they claiming now?
THIS IS THE BEST ECONOMY EVAR, AND IT’S SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANYTHING BUSH DID BECAUSE OF OBAMA. MMMM MMMM MMMM!
Sorry, but the nation isn’t buying it. Making assertions not backed by evidence is wearing thin. Obama’s sinking, and he’s taking us all with him.
Congratulations! This is the reality under your Hope-n-Change President and his Clown Car Democrat Congress, BB!
Now OWN them one and all.

yea… keep believing that. If you have a basic understanding of astronomy and the universe and in regards to the earth, geology and archeology you would see this is totally absurd.
The things that you mentioned and our solution to those problems were driven by nature, human migrations and finally settlements that allowed our societies to prosper by various means (ex: domestication of plants and animals)
Morality is relative obviously however I haven’t seen any evidence that before religion life was like sodom and gomorrah on every place on earth. The fact that we didn’t die out after being on this earth for 200,000+ years and that is not including our earlier forms before becoming homo sapiens I consider to be a great feat and a good thing.

I can’t guess. Could have been some kind of civics lesson or even Black History month deal.
I have dinner weekly with a bunch of teachers in my area. I know they would never do this. They have to be very careful when even teaching history, since parents are often reactive.
There’s a great book called, “The Lies Your Teacher Told You,” that explicates the issue. It’s gotten to the place where history is boring because teachers have to wring out any real drama to remain politically correct.
So I’m not in favor of this type of song. But I still think it’s a bit of a stretch to call it radicalization.
AnninCA on November 5, 2009 at 9:44 AM
Really? Singing songs about how awesome Barack Obama is is a “civics lesson?” And before you say that “hey, there are songs about Washington and Lincoln,” stop yourself and remember that Obama is no Lincoln, Washington or Jefferson. He’s not even a Millard Filmore.
Again, inculcating a worship of a politician and political worldview in an allegedly non-political education center that’s supposed to teach reading, writing and arithmetic is indeed a radical by definition. It’s not normal, it’s not acceptable and it’s done with deliberateness and obviously some repetition.
It’s indoctrination of a captive audience. That’s radical. Maybe not in North Korea, but it certainly is in America.
Good Lt on November 5, 2009 at 9:48 AM
So, now we’re down to: “Well, maybe that Trillion Dollar Stimulus didn’t actually do any good, but at least it didn’t do any harm — except, of course, to our national debt.”
(“Emergency!!!” Nancy Pelosi shrieked. “Every month we delay, we lose 500 million jobs!!!!”)
What happened to that oh-so-scientific chart of where unemployment would be with and without the Stimulus?
(And when giving 300 people a raise counts as “saving or creating” 950 jobs, I don’t think that “report” that came out last Friday did anything but add to Obama’s ginormous carbon footprint.)
notropis on November 5, 2009 at 9:48 AM
Well, let’s see. Given that there are 72,000 elementary schools, maybe 200,000 K-3 classrooms, and 10 million beaming parents, steps, aunts, uncles and grandparents taping little Madison’s and Jasper’s every move and posting it on YouTube or Facebook, and that Breitbart research interns probably spent 50 hours Googling to find 11 videos, perhaps there’s not actually a systematic effort to brainwash America’s you underway after all.
And, maybe Nixon just didn’t inspire song.
Maybe you should adjust your irony setting just a little.

Take one “wannabe a muscian” adult (usually a frustrated teacher who coulda` been a famous musician if not for the fact they are a Monday-Friday teacher)
+ a computer program that helps one make a song (Apple Garage Band or freeware Music Maker, for instance)
+ YouTube (to become “instantly” famous)
+ a hot fad (Obama)
+ copycat syndrome (“Look what somebody did on YouTube – kids singing odes to Obama – I could do that, too!”)
and you have the ingredients for Adults writing bad songs and taking advantage of school children.

And the Left somehow wants to divorce human action from nature when it suits their purpose. Either everything we do, as a result of the evolution of the human brain, is part of nature, from domesticating plants and animals to strip mining and atomic bombs, or nothing is.

Yes, and the left would be singing the praises of President McCain had he done the same thing here.
History did not get wiped clean this past January, BB. We lived through the Bush Administration and know how the left reacted to Bush’s sneezes, let alone his policy. Everything was Nazi-ish, thuggish, unprecedented, power-grabbing, abusive, hate-filled, bigoted, dumb, ineffective, worst ever, (fill in generic Bush slandering here), etc.
The Bush-hating left/Obamacrats are reaping the political style they spent nearly a decade sowing.
Man up.

Paranoia may destroy ya.
Either it’s a widespread, coordinated attempt to indoctrinate kids or it’s just a tiny number of classroom teachers trying to get little kids to sing and maybe pay a little attention to something besides TV and video games.
I suspect the latter. And I have no problem with a little kid being somewhat awestruck by any president, R or D. Let them learn a little idealism before they grow up to be cynical jerks like you and me.

You’re probably right.

The teachers and NEA have been infiltrated by communist long ago. This doesn’t surprise me.
Homegrown communists who never paid the price for their ideology, but benefited from capitalism.

The Dems waited until JFK was dead to deify him. Obama is being pre-deified just in case. What will these poor fools do when they find out he’s just another seriously flawed human being? Of course…like Kennedy they will ignore it.
Count on the eventual rewrite: Abraham, Martin and John…and Barry? (I know, that’s sanctification, not deification. Lay off.)

Yes the development of bigger brains is what I would include in the nature part, which in part was affected by nature in the sense of our surroundings and our need to survive such as the changing climates and the effect of other species on our lives (ex: predators).
Also you won’t get any difference in opinion from me on the fact that everything we do is part of nature, specifically our nature. Everything from compassion to building atomic bombs. It is up to morality and ideologies to determine whether they are “right” or “wrong”.

So that’s why we always sang “The Internationale” instead of the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Dem Obama ergeben sind wir.
Heil unsern Führer, Heil Obama dir!

Or it’s a fairly widespread “grassroots” phenomenon, brought on by the fact that public school teachers voted about 10-1 for Obama, and because they only hang around people who agree with them, they don’t see anything especially controversial about singing Hosannas to The One.
Even in schools where songs aren’t being made, kids are being given assignments like: “Why are you more hopeful, since the election?” and “How can we help President Obama heal our country?” (Two actual examples from my own town’s middle school history teacher.)

So you are OK with human sacrifice?
