Video: Michelle on schools teaching Obama songs

posted at 8:48 am on November 5, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

How creepy are these videos surfacing of children singing the praises of Dear Leader? A couple of them are more silly than creepy, such as the one you’ll hear that just consists of hosannas set to “Go Tell It On the Mountain” — ironically, a gospel song that in its original form would probably get banned in public schools today for the line in its refrain about the birth of Jesus Christ. Most of them, though, don’t just hail Obama as a generic secular leader but actually praise his policies as well, which sounds like both a personality cult and a political indoctrination at the same time. Michelle, as usual, makes the most solid point of all:

Are test scores in these schools so good that these kids can afford to take this much time off to memorize lyrics praising Barack Obama … essentially for winning an election?  It’s precisely this kind of brainwashing that has made an industry out of the home-schooling impulse and fuels the demand for school vouchers and charter schools, where parents have much more control over the education of their children.

As Sean Hannity notes, it does seem more than a little strange that the same schools that shriek at the insinuation of Christian beliefs on their campuses want to make Obama into an object of worship.  And thanks for the shout-out, Sean.

think any of these kids even know what the Constitution is? Nope, they are just singing praise to the God of Laziness and welfare!

They will all be cleaning toilets the rest of their pathetic lives…..

Being taught “idealism” by collectivist teachers?

pffffft

franksalterego on November 5, 2009 at 10:10 AM

Oh, and in the “it was always thus” department, the same teacher, back in 2001, came up with the great question: “Do you think it’s right that the Supreme Court decided who our president should be?”

And there was never a “How can we help President Bush heal our country?” essay topic, in case you were wondering….

Paranoia may destroy ya.

The proof is on the video. This is not a one-time incident. 11 videos is a pattern. One video is a fluke. Two is somewhat of a fluke. Three is eh. ELEVEN on top of the other ones, all doing the same things, is a pattern.

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

Either it’s a widespread, coordinated attempt to indoctrinate kids or it’s just a tiny number of classroom teachers trying to get little kids to sing and maybe pay a little attention to something besides TV and video games.

Maybe the teachers can teach them about the dangers of DEBT and profligate spending.

They ARE paying attention to TV – and TV tells them that Barack Obama is god, is sovereign and that anybody who disagrees is a bigoted racist homophobe that wants to kill them. Then they go to school (more like church in this case) and learn of the great deeds, heroics and the songs about the Dear Leader. And you pretend it’s all good and call that “education.”

I suspect the latter. And I have no problem with a little kid being somewhat awestruck by any president, R or D. Let them learn a little idealism before they grow up to be cynical jerks like you and me.

I do have a problem with that. If this were Bush, you’d have a problem with it.

Presidents are just politicians and should not be elevated to mythical, God-like levels where they are “awed.” The kids should be taught critical thinking – such things as why tax increases hurt business and job growth, or why you can’t spend more than you take in without financial difficulty, or why each child has a right to individual freedom, property and the fruits of their eventual labor. Plus reading, writing and math.

Politicians are lying jackasses whose actions impede and hinder the lives of free, productive people. Shielding children from the truth does not help them, and urgining them to shed an uncritical eye on “untouchable” gods like Obama is a naked attempt to indoctrinate the kids into believing and normalizing a particular subset of political views.

That’s a waste of taxpayer money, a violation of the kids’ right to receive a quality education, and a violation of the trust that exists between a teacher and a pupil.

Even in schools where songs aren’t being made, kids are being given assignments like: “Why are you more hopeful, since the election?” and “How can we help President Obama heal our country?” (Two actual examples from my own town’s middle school history teacher.)

kingsjester on November 5, 2009 at 10:21 AM

So you are OK with human sacrifice?

Johan Klaus on November 5, 2009 at 10:06 AM

Nope because I feel that given how rare life is in the universe (as far as we know) and how precious having a life is considering that we are fragile and we only have one time in history to live and given I don’t believe in an after life I feel that no human being should be able to take someone off this earth for senseless reasons thus cutting short their ability freely live their life to the fullest. I feel that due to the fact I don’t believe in heaven or hell makes me appreciate life more than someone who does because this is it and it’s a crime to have someone take it away from you for no reason at all.

However in relation to what you quoted, that is my moral code and belief most likely growing up in a very individual centered nation like the United States. There have been people who think it’s OK. I don’t. Human sacrifice unfortunately in most cases is due to the idea that there is some metaphysical being that needs to be pleased. If anything religion in that case is the cause of unnecessary violence and murder. Just like the inquisition and as far as modern times our crazy muslim fanatics who blow themselves up for their religion.

blockquote>

They could do that. Using the Reagan and Bush years. Clinton would be a nice example of progressive government, sane fiscal policies and broad economic growth.

I actually think they’re watching Spongebob Squarepants and the loathsome Disney Channel. Don’t you remember, as you conservatives are fond of pointing out? The MSM is dying, and nobody under 50 watches the network news any more.

I’m also pretty sure that in the larger schedule of classroom and homework, the Obamasong part takes pretty tiny sliver. They’re probably mostly doing readin’, writn’ and ‘rithmatic. Maybe a little basic science and “social studies.”

I suspect the latter. And I have no problem with a little kid being somewhat awestruck by any president, R or D. Let them learn a little idealism before they grow up to be cynical jerks like you and me.

Plus reading, writing and math.

You guys are the ones who make Obama mythical. We just just like the guy a lot. As for kids, I’d rather have them have a president as a hero than a basketball player or TV star.

And, it should be noted, you are at least as eager to indoctrinate your poisonous little ideology as any card-carrying NEA member.

No one is too young to be taught that they have natural rights: freedom of speech, religion, etc. We can quibble about whether these rights come from Nature (simply an inherent part of the human condition) or Nature’s God; the important part is that rights do not come from government. I.e., there is no “right” to health care. That creates a burden on someone else to provide health care for you, which essentially enslaves someone else for your benefit. And that path leads to total government control over your life, such as deciding whether or not you could supervise your kid at the playground.

The Dems waited until JFK was dead to deify him. Obama is being pre-deified just in case. What will these poor fools do when they find out he’s just another seriously flawed human being? Of course…like Kennedy they will ignore it.

search4truth on November 5, 2009 at 10:33 AM

Yeah. 11 videos and 72,000 schools. A growing threat.

These are just the incidents caught on tape and posted.

Clinton would be a nice example of progressive government, sane fiscal policies and broad economic growth.

And you could explain how the GOP taking Congress controlled that Democrat spending so that growth could take place. But that’s “too hard” for little future Democrats drones to process, isn’t it? That whole “Congress initiates the spending” thing. It’s much easier to sing songs about Barack Obama MMMM MMMM MMMM and just call that “education.”

No wonder our kids get their clocks cleaned compared to schools that spend a fraction on education around the world (and private schools here in the US). They actually educate children with that limited money. Government-run schools? Not so much.

I’m also pretty sure that in the larger schedule of classroom and homework, the Obamasong part takes pretty tiny sliver. They’re probably mostly doing readin’, writn’ and ‘rithmatic

And writing essays about “what we can do to help the President” and write about “how you felt changed by Obama’s election” and “what can you do to be more like Obama.”

You guys are the ones who make Obama mythical.

I didn’t seen any songs praising GOP politicians in those videos. I DID see videos of children being taught to revere and worship a Democrat politician from the most corrupt city in America. No biggie.

Don’t you have a gun to cling to until this passes and you calm down, Lieutenant?

Ah, yes. The “bitter gun clingers bible thumpers” argument. Except that I’m not clinging to anything except for my wallet. My gun is ready for action, but I don’t anticipate ever firing it. I don’t read the Bible with any regularity.

Ignoring the fact that you’re now leveling criticisms at me personally and that you’ve essentially conceded the point that this is indeed inappropriate and creepy political indoctrination committed by Democrats in our government school system on innocent children at taxpayer expense, I don’t know if I fit into the mold of your “stereotypical Republican” cartoon character that you’ve created to attack.

But you keep swinging for the bleachers.

Your quote. Moral equivalence?

Johan Klaus on November 5, 2009 at 10:28 AM

Not really. More that Again, morals are relative. However there are individual perspectives to consider to. People have their own perspective on what is right or wrong. I developed the idea from my culture that human sacrifice is wrong. I gave you a pretty thorough post why I think it is wrong. I don’t think any culture should practice it. I’m simply acknowledging there are people that due and in the context of my quote, the idea of human sacrifice is as much the nature of human beings as to be against it.

Norvell on November 5, 2009 at 10:40 AM

I don’t know what’s so hard. I’d simply tell the school that my child will be unable to sing, dance, or in any way praise personally our President, as it goes against our religion, and that it would be a grievous sin for my child to break the First Commandment,{”I am The Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:2-3 RSV.
Any school function that causes my child to break the 10 Commandments will force me to take civil legal action.

Johan Klaus on November 5, 2009 at 10:36 AM

No, crack makes me paranoid, like some others who post here, so I gave it up. I just have a cocktail shaker laying around somewhere that needs to have the tequila and lime juice cleaned out

On the larger question, I do not think that the occasional teaching of Obama songs to small children in the classroom signifies any long-term deification threat, systematic indoctrination or significant waste of taxpayer money. Especially since Breitbart et al were too lazy — or conniving — to actually dig up any context. Journalism, this ain’t. At least they’re paying a little attention to what’s going on and (apparently, in several cases) trying to get African American kids who are especially at risk to pay attention to a positive role model.

On the other hand, if you can show systematic, widespread indoctrination, I’ll sign your letter calling for mass firings. Let me know when you come up with evidence that didn’t come from YouTube.

Oh, and finally, a hint: you piss your own cocktail when you stretch what may be a little hero-worship into deification. Makes you sound wacko.

See you on another thread. (Maybe)

Bleeds Blue on November 5, 2009 at 10:46 AM

My take away from this video was at the end. Sounds like Sean isn’t opposed to 3rd Party’s when he says he’s not for Republicans BUT conservatives. He just thinks that the country will remain two party with Conservatives over running Republicans.

Sultry Beauty on November 5, 2009 at 10:50 AM

On the larger question, I do not think that the occasional teaching of Obama songs to small children in the classroom signifies any long-term deification threat, systematic indoctrination or significant waste of taxpayer money.

So you don’t see a problem in these videos. Nothing wrong here. Nothing at all. This is time and taxpayer money well spent.

This would be expected from those who appear physically unable to extract their head from Barack Obama’s backside. We’re only trying to help, BB.

Journalism, this ain’t.

By your unspecified standard, The Huffington Post and Talking Points Memo (the most ironically named leftwing blog on the net) isn’t journalism, either. But it likes to pretend. And so do you.

At least they’re paying a little attention to what’s going on and (apparently, in several cases) trying to get African American kids who are especially at risk to pay attention to a positive role model.

There are no black role models in America, then? Are songs being written and performed on taxpayer dollar about any of them?

On the other hand, if you can show systematic, widespread indoctrination, I’ll sign your letter calling for mass firings. Let me know when you come up with evidence that didn’t come from YouTube.

This is only the evidence that has been documented. It is certainly not ONLY these videos and nothing else (as you’re trying to suggest). The law of averages dictates this.

And in your endless quest for evidence to back up claims like “the stimulus is working,” you let us know where the millions and millions of new jobs the Obamacrat “stimulus” was supposed to have directly “created” by the end of this past summer (according to the wonderful Administration’s estimates) have gone to.

you piss your own cocktail when you stretch what may be a little hero-worship into deification. Makes you sound wacko.

You’re kidding, right?

The Obamacrats thus far have offered America nothing but sycophantic hero worship. NOTHING. It’s working splendidly, as the now millions of newly unemployed and millions more who stopped looking for work in this country on Obama’s watch can now attest.

Annar on November 5, 2009 at 11:29 AM

I was born in Nicaragua prior to the Communist revolution of 1979. Communism is atheist at its root, but for whatever reason, Communism always replaces the worship of God with the worship of the state, the government, Communist heroes, etc.

In second grade, my sister and I were forced to go through Communist indoctrination classes. One of the things we were forced to do was to sing songs of worship to Communist heroes. The songs these kids are singing in school remind me of the songs I was forced to sing by my Communist teachers.

The song that bothers me most is the one where they take lyrics from “Jesus Loves the Little Children” and turn them into an Obama worship song. The second worst is taking the tune of “Go Tell it on the Mountain” and turn it into an Obama worship song. Both are clear cases of replacing the worship of God with the worship of a government “hero”.

These teachers are using the same brainwashing techniques my Communist teachers used on me. Fortunately, because of my parents, the brainwashing didn’t work on my siblings or me. Unfortunately, it did work on a lot of my classmates.

a little away from the point, but I just visited Nicaragua (Granada, San Juan del Sur, couple of volcanos) and must say how much I enjoyed the sights and history and the hospitality of the people.

In fact my Unc bought an island in the ne part of lake Nicaragua.

Thanks for your points.

Wow!!! I’ve never seen such coercion…such oversight…such attrition. Are you kidding me? You Hot Air hags would be fine with religious brainwashing but acknowledging the POTUS is crossing the line.

Good4Onan on November 5, 2009 at 12:30 PM

Will somebody please gather up a bunch of school aged children and have them sing a special ditty that blasts our dear leader? Maybe some of Limbaugh’s people can come up with something hilarious in the lyrics that sting like a bee.

If parents choose to raise their kids to believe in God, or any god, or The Whine, that’s fine. There is a difference between that and public school, i.e. government, indoctrination. But since the Left views government as the Superparent, I guess you don’t see the difference.

Religious brainwashing?

Moron, my Mother tried to establish Catholicism in me and I resisted and to this day I have my own view.

At an early age I was very aggressive about it and thought that the abolition of such would be good.

Of course over the years I saw a great many decent people from various beliefs who have wonderful, happy families.

At the same time I have witnessed the hollow and colorless athiest ilk and what they have to offer and it isnt special and at times is very malevolent.

Having faith and agknowledging a higher power is a humbling experience and it doesnt coencide with political venue as opposed to this lemming mentality that statists offer.

Ive seen both and its not even close.

God bless you Michelle, you rock! And these videos get creepier and creepier. One real way the GOP let us down in 2002 was not passing (or even seriously considering) school vouchers. They had the power, Bush wanted it, but the RINO’s apparently didn’t want to buck the NEA. (Wimps…) Would have ensured that at least some school children aren’t brainwashed in the Obama mode.

That really says what you’re about.
Wow.
Just keep equivocating your whole life away. See just where it gets you.

I have been reading a lot about the Gulag, former USSR, Mao, China, Hitler’s Germany, etc.
The similarities are obvious to those of you who have lived it & to those of us who can see it, through these rose-colored glasses they’re trying to force us to wear.
After reading so much of the suffering from these types of dictatorships, I become more & more convinced this is the road we are heading down.
It may take a long time, but this idolatry will be our ruination eventually.
A spade is a spade & I’m calling it here.
This is indoctrination-pure & simple.

Badger40 on November 5, 2009 at 2:17 PM

And btw-
In my science classes, I provide all sides I can concerning an issue.
I try my best to equip them with skills to form their own opinions.
Which is why when I showed them Al Gores rotten film, they watched The BBC’s Grreat Global Warming Swindle right behind it.
Then they have to research scientific papers on global warming & pick a topic to form an opinion on & make a powerpoint presentation to show to the class.
There are some of us who are not trying to indoctrinate your children.

You obviously have selective reading syndrome. I made it obvious in that post that I have more own moral perspective. If you don’t acknowledge that various people from various cultures have variance in morality, you’re being a hardheaded idiot. It was more of an observational statement than my ideological outlook on the world. Read my response to the guy who asked me if I was ok with human sacrifice.

Norvell on November 5, 2009 at 2:50 PM

I’m sure all the songs sounded SO much better in the original German.
