I sure hope so. I think the administration is tired of all the mess and just wants to put yet another diplomatic blunder behind them. I listened to an interview of Tom Shannon on CNN Espanol on La Gringa’s site and he basically said as much.

What a trainwreck.

Thus far, he seems to be the only one who doesn’t realize that the entire affair has embarrassed the US, particularly since the Law Library of Congress report that concluded that Honduras acted legally to remove Zelaya and didn’t conduct a “coup”.

Anyone who can read a little Spanish, even if only with the help of Google Translate, and who took the trouble actually to look at the Constitution of Honduras, could tell that the only thing unconstitutional about what the Hondurans did is that they waited any time to do it. According to the laws, Zelaya ousted himself from office in the act of advocating relaxation of his own term limit. One didn’t need the staff of “the Law Library of Congress” to explain this, and if they had said otherwise, everyone with even the rudimentary understanding I’ve described would have known they were stupid or lying. If they were going to put their names on their report, they had to state the obvious; otherwise, it seems they would thereafter have had a reputation as legal hacks. Come to think of it, they would have been lying to Congress, and Congressmen with even a little knowledge of Spanish would have known they were lying.

So what happens now then? Barry’s goons lift the embargoes on Honduras and the Hondurans dont even have to put Zalya back in office…BUT…even if they do put the moron back in office he is out on his arse at the end of the month!

So, Honduras won and the won big. Not only did they remove a thug who just tried to install himself as dictator for life BUT they protected their constitution, upheld the rule of law, most likely get civil and military aid restored and got to play Barry like a fool.

The whole purpose of the agreement was to allow Obama to declare victory and withdraw from the field of battle.

Inept maybe, but do not overlook the fact that this could well have been a deliberate strategy, based upon the advice of not only State Department experts and others in the administration. Senator Kerry’s position on Honduras mirrored his much earlier positions against US policy in the Americas.

Honduras was also badly served by its diplomatic staff in the USA. I know its ambassador to the US was a Zelaya supporter, and it is possible that the diplomats at the UN and the Organization of American States were also Zelaya supporters.

The news just now said the shootings were at an area where they ready troops for deployment. This is not sounding good. Fort Hood is huge, and someone would almost have to know exactly where they were going.
