If we play it that same way & win the majority, then so what? We’d look just like the Democrats do now; stagnant, totally at odds with each other over everything from cap and trade to public option, and tanking in popularity nationally and locally. As you’ve said AP, there’s room for social moderation in the Republican party, but while “centrist” candidates on fiscal matters MIGHT (emphasis, MIGHT) help us regain the majority in blue areas…they will inevitably become a roadblock to the conservative agenda resulting in another wave of Democrat success from an electorate that gets pissed off by internal bickering. Sure they’ll be fooled again. They’re always fooled. They like the DEMS bright shiny rhetoric, hope & change. They fall for that garbage because they have no real principles.

DC influences politicians in one direction: toward the Left. So a Democrat moderate is only going to move toward Democrats, and a Republican moderate is only going to move away from Republicans.

(And note: not even the most rabid, troglodytic conservative Republican EVER seriously proposes reducing the size of government.)
