he told AIPAC that JERUSALEM should be the UNDIVIDED capital of Israel

Clinton had traveled to the region only reluctantly, concerned her visit might be seen as a failure, several U.S. officials said. She agreed to meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders after pressure from the White House, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The White House did not immediately respond when asked for comment.

Middle East peace talks must include the disputed city of Jerusalem, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Cairo on Wednesday, stressing Washington is determined to push for a Palestinian state.

“There is no doubt that moving toward a state that reflects the aspirations and the rights of the Palestinian people must include all of the issues that have been discussed and mentioned by President (Barack) Obama, and that includes Jerusalem,” she said.

In a speech Tuesday and in meetings with Arab foreign ministers during a conference of Arab and Western nations in Marrakesh, Morocco, Mrs. Clinton made it clear that the Israeli government would not agree to President Obama’s call for a complete halt to settlement construction. Instead she depicted Mr. Netanyahu’s offer as a reasonable compromise that could still form the basis for progress.

“It is not what we want; it is nowhere near enough,” Mrs. Clinton told Al Jazeera. “But I think when you keep your eye on what we want to achieve, it is a better place to be than the alternative. And therefore, I think we should be trying to keep moving the parties.”

JEWISH settlers forced their way into a Palestinian house in occupied East Jerusalem yesterday, expanding their foothold in a sensitive area just days after US secretary of state Hillary Clinton appeared to drop US opposition to such actions.
Dozens of settlers with security guards broke down the door of a building housing the al-Kurd family in the Sheikh Jarrah area where settlers had previously evicted the al-Ghawi family. “They are taking over through force, forgery and every means of coercion,” said Fuad Ghawi, whose protest tent was removed by police last week. A settler takeover of Sheikh Jarrah could rule out East Jerusalem as capital of a future Palestinian state. Mrs Clinton praised Israel’s “unprecedented” concessions on settlements on Saturday.
