Too bad to check: NJ Dems sending gangbangers on GOTV efforts?
posted at 10:55 am on November 3, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
So says Election Journal, who gets it from two sources, albeit anonymous ones. One seems pretty solid; a police officer recognized gangbangers, who discovered him and threatened him after discovering where he lived. The on-camera source seems less specific but just as certain about the GOTV volunteers Democrats sent into her neighborhood:
How would you like to be a New Jersey police officer and look out your window and see several known criminals, including a man you arrested several weeks ago and another who had just been released from prison for shooting a cop? And then find out that the men were sent into the neighborhood by the Democratic Party for GOTV operations – complete with lists of voters names, addresses and phones numbers!
That is what happened Sunday on a quiet street in Morris Township. The officer, who’s name we are with holding, specifically heard the men discussing that he was a police officer and that they now know where he lives. The officer confronted the men and they took off. He contacted the local police who responded and caught up with them and about a dozen other men a few blocks away. According to the police report, the men were known criminals and when asked why they were in the neighborhood they stated they were “campaigning for the Democratic Party.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen criminals hired to represent Democratic GOTV efforts. In 2004, the Kerry campaign used an outfit called Americans Coming Together, who hired felons to do some door-knocking and some campaigning on doorsteps. This year, the Census Bureau botched its criminal background checks and hired hundreds of felons to do their data collection. One might think that with unemployment skyrocketing, the Census Bureau could do a better job of vetting applicants, but apparently they didn’t care enough to try.
If true, this demonstrates the steep hill Republicans have in dislodging an entrenched Democratic power base in New Jersey that has clearly become unresponsive to voters.

I’m reading that ACORN is really active in NJ. I guess their money hasn’t yet completely run out.

Why shouldn’t criminal Democrats hire criminals to motivate other criminals to go to the polls?
They are keeping it in the family.
What is astounding is that non-criminal-Americans actually vote for Democrats.

This election should be over in, oh, by the 2010 elections. How long does it take to count the votes, then recount them, then count them again when a trunkful is found in an SEIU trunk, then a court challenge, and of course an appeal…damn, this could take more than a year…

Keep watching this. If the Democrat machine in New Jersey is dedicated to giving cops’ names and addresses to local crooks, don’t expect law enforcement unions or organizations to stay loyal to the Democrat machine. And remember, Gaetano Lucchese was a community organizer.

The hard truth is the race in New Jersey is within the margin of error in the polls which means that there is 99.99999% chance that the Democrat will win. They always manage to find the votes they need. Can somebody give me an example of a time when a Republican won when the poll numbers were within 1 or 2 points?
I conceded the New Jersey race when I saw that Cristie could not open up a big enough lead.
Remember it is not who cast the vote that counts, rather it is who counts the votes.

Really? I think it might break for Christie. He’s definitely gotten the surge at the end going.
AnninCA on November 3, 2009 at 11:11 AM
Doesn’t seem all that out of the ordinary. If you figure that a significant number of the population are gang members and those who are mostly likely to have the time to go around and canvas (probably for cash payment) and don’t have regular jobs are gang members, and that gang members are probably close to 100% Democrats, it doesn’t seem odd that gang bangers would be canvassing for Democrats.
Democrats ARE corruption. Democrats ARE thuggery. The Democratic Party is probably quite proud of their gang members. Democrats are the party of gangsters. Ever seen a Republican mobster? Ever seen a Republican union thug?
Even if one believes in socialist principles, I can’t see how they can, in good conscience, align themselves with the Democratic Party, the most corrupt institution we have seen in generations. It has become exactly the opposite of the party of JFK. Democrats, the party of criminals everywhere.

Concealed Carry is one possible solution, allowing lawful citizens of New Jersey to exercise their right to keep and bear arms that would allow them to protect themselves from these criminals. They still have that Second Amendment thing there, right? Oh, no? Oh well, living in NJ Democrat-land pretty much strips you of your constitutional rights, doesn’t it?

The unions just became such a thug outfit. I have strong feelings about this.
I so have no problem with employees or any other group joining together. I don’t see that one bit differently than I saw the Teaparties. That’s appropriate.
But somewhere in the 60′s, unions went to the dark side in a very big way.
I hate seeing that reemerge in American politics. I was actually surprised to see Obama tapping into that group. It’s so offensive to most people. I thought that part of his base was going to be the ones to give him the real problems, not the intellectual elitists who blog. It’s the union folks who will expose and turn off people.
AnninCA on November 3, 2009 at 11:23 AM
How appropriate. Half the NJ Democrat Party ought to be convicted of felonies.
WannabeAnglican on November 3, 2009 at 11:24 AM
Worse, too much government. You have no idea how Trenton wrecked auto insurance in Joisey some years ago, in a government-run boondoggle that lasted three years. After that mess was repealed and replaced by another mess, drivers had to pay surcharges to recoup three billion ‘lost’ dollars for the first disaster.
Liam on November 3, 2009 at 11:24 AM
The active use of the second amendment in liberal proportions will negate the thugs.
Johan Klaus on November 3, 2009 at 11:24 AM
In CA, Dems are honestly controlled by gov’t unions. Now they are totally different from the NJ variety.
They just get emotional. They don’t employ thug tactics.
But the dems in my state? They can’t address the problems because of their base. Frankly, they’d be voting themselves right out of office.
AnninCA on November 3, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Intrade has Corzine down almost 10 today- 40% win probability.
You can bet the fraud and intimidation by these thugs is going to ramp up- starting about now.
jjshaka on November 3, 2009 at 11:25 AM
In my mind intentional voter fraud is the same as treason. If you purposely try to sway an election by generating fake votes or threaten those who will cast genuine votes you should be executed.

She’s on the phone with me right now from her car as I type telling me that she saw several cops busting into a house only a few miles from our home.
Tony737 on November 3, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Not to defend this but…
First, these are clearly not hardcore “gang-bangers.” Because hardcore gang-bangers, corner boys, crackheads and the like don’t do GOTV for eight bucks an hour.
What happens is that the party needs canvassers so they hit local colleges (last time I went canvassing, I was paired with an extrem, unions and the like who offer to turn out bodies for the canvass. A bunch of people who are either a) highly motivated ideologues or party “regulars,” or b) poor, bored young people are rounded up, everyone is handed a list and a pen and if they (the poor, bored ones)stay on their route all day they get their $50 or whatever and go home. Inevitably, some of the poor kids are less than model citizens — you’re talking about people who can’t hold down a McDonald’s job — and you occasionally get odd juxtapositions of canvassing teams and neighborhoods that scare the citizenry. Sometimes even black kids get onto the streets of a white neighborhood in Moriss Township.
Far from being actually intimidating, though, the biggest problem is getting kids who are very shy outside of their element and not motivated to actually knock on the doors in the first place. Note that there is no allegation they were doing anything except being in a neighborhood where the “Didn’t belong.”
It is hardly an attempt to steal the election, it’s simply a problem of hiring high-quality labor for a crappy, short-term job.
