Early indications: Things looking good in … New Jersey?

posted at 5:23 pm on November 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

Short and sweet from K-Lo:

Everything the RNC is looking at data-wise right now on New Jersey looks good for Christie.

For what that’s worth hours before the polls close…

For more specifics, read MKH. In sum, everything depends on turnout. Because it’s a blue state, high turnout means trouble, low turnout — and it’s been low so far, especially in bluer districts — means Christie’s got a shot. The CW among conservatives is that Corzine will win narrowly (and indeed, he’s favored at 53 percent at the moment on InTrade) but I’m feeling a rare twinge of optimism fueled by my sheer contempt for him. Jerseyans can’t seriously be ready to reelect this loser. The prospect of it is simply too depressing to contemplate.

As for Christie, he’s making nice with The One in advance by insisting that a win tonight would say nothing about the president’s stature or lack thereof. That’s smart politics from a guy who’s angling to represent a state dominated by Democrats, but no one — least of all the White House — really believes it.

A Christie win will horrify and terrify the Democrats.

I have to see it in NJ to believe it. I’m the same way with PA. Too many times we are told we’ve got a real shot only to take a punch in the gut. I can’t help but get a little hopeful about it, though, the more that is coming out.

Theworldisnotenough on November 3, 2009 at 5:31 PM

I just heard the same thing on Cavuto, AP. Reports are coming in from the counties that went heavy for McCain, and turnout in those areas is really high.

Tomorrow’s headlines today: Christie Rolls Over Corzine

The Ugly American on November 3, 2009 at 5:33 PM

I’ll bet they find absentee ballots to make corzine the winner.
Hey, look st Franken, Obama…….it works.
Besides the ACORN factor, I can see why NJ Dems would stay home. Corzine is a loser and they can’t actively elect a Republican so they stay home. This might spell more trouble for Obama than the rest of today’s races.

ORconservative on November 3, 2009 at 5:33 PM

Karl Rove was just on Hannity and he seemed to be a little wary that Corzine might win. Not so much in his words, but what he didn’t say. Time will tell. Intrade has Corzine at 50.1%, so it could go any way.

I agree with your good politics comment- you simply don’t go out there and talk referendum of the filthy lying coward’s performance in a state like New Jersey. Christie’s support is as much his status as “not Corzine” as anything else.

But isn’t the spin inevitable. Dems win big and Robert Gibbs is out there talking about affirmation of the socialist/marxist agenda of the filthy lying coward. Dems lose big and Gibbs brushes it off as “local politics” that have nothing to do with what happens in DC or the filthy lying coward’s mandate. That is just the way this game is played no matter the fact that these “local” races have national consequences, not the least of which is the possibility of the blue dogs running scared.
