Quotes of the day
posted at 10:42 pm on November 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
“New England’s moderate Republicans, shoved out of power by two Democratic waves of anti-George W. Bush fervor, are scrambling to make a 2010 comeback, making early bids for congressional seats that GOP leaders say are critical to taking back majorities in the House and Senate…
“[I]n next year’s congressional election, Republicans believe they can regain ground in districts that have historically prided themselves on their Yankee independence and self-sufficiency. In the Granite State, GOP candidates could well win back both congressional seats and the open Senate seat, said Andy Smith, director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.
“Lincoln Chafee, a former moderate GOP senator now running as an independent for governor of Rhode Island, said his former party has moved so far to the right that he doesn’t see any room in it for New England moderates.
‘If you ask me, I’d recommend they run as independents,’ he said.”
***
“There are more conservatives than Democrats in America, and there are more Democrats than Republicans.
“One reason for this is that while Republican voters overwhelmingly consider themselves conservative, only 56% of conservative voters consider themselves to be Republicans. In other words, nearly half of all conservatives nationwide reject the Republican Party label…
“It should be noted that Democratic Party dynamics are entirely different.
“While a plurality (44%) of Democrats are politically liberal, nearly as many (35%) are moderate. So Democrats must make compromises within their party before reaching out.”
***
“‘I don’t give a crap about party,’ said Jennifer Bernstone, a tea party organizer for Central New York 912, which helped to lead the anti-Scozzafava charge. ‘Grass-roots activists don’t care about party.’…
“‘There are going to be other conflicts,’ said Brandon. ‘We have a lot of work to do. The [Doug] Hoffman campaign was the beginning. It was not the climax.’…
“To be blunt, many conservative activists couldn’t care less what Davis and top party officials think about them and their brand of politics…
“Numerous GOP officials have told POLITICO they worry that the party has been hijacked by a noisy and powerful minority that will keep the GOP in a noisy and not-so-powerful minority for a long time.”
***
“It means that the Republican establishment blew it.”

Yeah, I see. He understands all right…
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:02 AM
It’s a slow week in the canadian parliament?
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:03 AM
Grow Fins is upset by an informed electorate. It must keep him awake at night, knowing that voters know who they are voting for.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:05 AM
Hey, if we don’t see you before the results are in, enjoy retirement with getalife. You both should go up to Fort Drum and train for Afghanistan…
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:05 AM
I am concerned about all the Concern Trolling.
We know the routine:
How To Slit Your Throat Painlessly, Pal: the concern troll’s handbook.
Whetstone sold separately.
profitsbeard on November 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM
Lovely spin there, matey. Not half as upset as you are by the informed electorate who brought us Obama.
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM
LOL…the sudden concern from an O-bot for “pure” money.
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM
Wasn’t that really lack of information? Colored by pretty words and a compliant media?
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:07 AM
Thanks. And enjoy your People’s Rogue Revolution (brought to you by Club For Growth, Inc.).
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:08 AM
you know, if I was going to make a Moby Troll, a troll that acts like a loony lefty but really is trying to gin up right wing moral and esteem, it would pretty much be Grow Fins. I’m starting to think Grow Fins works for the RNC.
It was kinda fun watching a full blown troll melt down tonight tho…
Ampersand on November 3, 2009 at 12:08 AM
I can imagine Grow Fins at his keyboard, in the canadian parliament, crying as he trolls Hot Air tonight. Knowing that it could be his last night to receive the attention he clearly, so desperately, desires.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:09 AM
LOL. More money from outside flowed into the coffers of both of his opponents, and Crazy Joe was working the lines for that Owens slug. And Hoffman lived in the district, until Essex County was split in the 2002 redistricting, so to call Hoffman from “outside” is kind of funny.
Meanwhile, you traitors promoted and voted for a friggin’ illegally funded (AVS scheme) Indonesian to occupy the White House – which isn’t even legal or American in any sense, at all. Carpetbagger … please. You slimeballs went with un-Constitutional and un-American, not to mention America-hating. Now hurry up and help your Traitor-in-Chief stall on Afghanistan so he can intentionally bleed our troops and nation. Pure treason.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:09 AM
At least Club for Growth isn’t some shady Soros front. Pffft.
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:10 AM
Dude.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:10 AM
The bottom line is the major issues that will affect everyone in the district — burdensome taxes; overwhelming growth of federal regulation; healthcare nationalization, cap & tax, et al — and what is good policy and what is bad policy, what will work and what will not. About anyone in the party can bring him up to speed on the parochial issues in a couple of days.
You know little to nothing of politics or constituent services, in particular staffing for Congressmen.
Dusty on November 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM
Maybe Grow Fins favorite philosopher, Mao, has some words to hold him tight tonight as he sits in the closet, sucking his thumb crying over the fate of the best politician ever – Dede – who was thwarted by .. well, herself.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM
ROFL…now I know you’re joking. I wonder what percentage of Obama voters know what the capital of the US is?
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM
Who? The morons who thought the GOP still controlled Congress in 2008? Informed? LOL. You’re killing me.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM
Hey, lorien think Hoffman’s gonna lose. Better call Beck and heat up the tar pot. There’s a backslider in your midst.
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:13 AM
Someone should make a video about that … oh wait.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:13 AM
He may lose. Scozzafava already lost.
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:14 AM
I think Drywall’s the parliamentarian.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:14 AM
I get all the concern trolls confused!
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Anyone know the polls up in NY23?
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Same stupid comments, different names attached to them. Who can blame me?
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Carpetbaggers are a good thing. Just ask Hillary!
Dusty on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
“Parochial”….I see…..that’s the latest GOP talking point is it?
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Have pity for Grow Fins, sitting in his mom’s extra bedroom gazing longingly at the Obama poster on the ceiling over his bed. He’s just feeling … unrequited. IYKWIMAITYD
OhioCoastie on November 3, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Hoffman up, with like 20% undecided is the last one I saw.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:16 AM
When up in Watertown, say hi to Dede (i.e. “the local”) for all us HAians…
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:16 AM
Call Club For Growth. They’re in the DC phonebook. You know. Washington.
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:16 AM
seriously dude. HotAir is driving you batty(er). I’m thinking your exile it needed for you health. Go to bed. It’s ok. tomorrow is just another day. Please take at least a couple weeks before you start posting under a different alias. I’m worried about you.
I hope your sign-off tomorrow night is a little more dignified.
Ampersand on November 3, 2009 at 12:17 AM
Up by how much?
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:17 AM
He keeps promising to leave but then won’t go. You are sick and tired of our mindset – in case you forgot. They’re calling for you over at LGF and HuffPo. Hurry up.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:17 AM
Grow Fins is mad cuz people learned who their candidates were and realized the “republican” was really a “democrat” and they didn’t like her any more.
Sucks for Maoists when voters have real choices!
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:17 AM
95%!! And all out of district votes. Amazing!!
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:17 AM
Damn! Like minds … but you were faster.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Oh, so no link? Come on, wanna call it? Hoffman or Owens? What could it hurt? Give us your opinion.
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Hoffman.
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:18 AM
and Obama wasn’t even born here so he is the ultimate carpetbagger.
(sorry, I just want to see his head explode a little more…)
Ampersand on November 3, 2009 at 12:19 AM
5 or 6? Hotair has the poll. Instapundit too. It’s too chaotic.
I’m off the mind that undecideds go with incumbents. Given no incumbent, they’ll go with the known brand. In this case, D. It’s safer and people like safe.
I’d like to be wrong, but by saying he’ll lose – I can only be pleasantly surprised. :P
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:19 AM
Well, he is certainly dumb enough and obnoxious enough to be employed by either the RNC or the DNC. Or any other group that communicates with the public only in vapid ‘bumper sticker speak’.
LegendHasIt on November 3, 2009 at 12:19 AM
Nice dodge. Sound reasonable and maybe the howling mob will mistake you for an Independent.
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:20 AM
Wow, 95% of the country aside from NY23 supports Hoffy?
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:20 AM
No, ACORN/SEIU will be voting for Owens.
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:21 AM
Do you believe that Hoffman will win because
1) He’s a carpetbagger
2) Outsider funds
3) His policies line up better with the majority of the voters
or
4) Your own theory (insert here)
???
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:22 AM
It’s a conservative district in safe GOP territory. Plus, he’s got the VRWC at his back……….and those out of district dollars don’t hurt….
Grow Fins on November 3, 2009 at 12:24 AM
You’ve given him choices. Something he’s clearly shown he does not like. Voters need to be told who to vote for, from carefully controlled candidates who belong to monolithic parties, so they can get their money from the proper out of district channels.
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:24 AM
What do you see?
Dusty on November 3, 2009 at 12:25 AM
so it’s those pesky voters… if only you could get rid of them your side would win every time!!
Ampersand on November 3, 2009 at 12:26 AM
So in the end, do you believe the Hoffman represents his “new” district the best of the three (now two) candidates?
MeatHeadinCA on November 3, 2009 at 12:27 AM
Dang! We really could have used them in 2008 when the Indonesian imbecile won NY-23. Do you know their phone number?
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:27 AM
Like Zombie Reagan, the VRWC is back, baby!
lorien1973 on November 3, 2009 at 12:28 AM
I want to join.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:28 AM
Just ask Obama. So now Congressional candidates MUST be funded from entirely within their own prospective districts. LOL
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:29 AM
he saw a word he didn’t understand. Lord knows he can’t think of those 4 syllable words on his own. It’s projectionist.
Next time just go to dictionary.com GF

Dire Straits on November 3, 2009 at 12:34 AM
Let’s find out. I’m ready.
progressoverpeace on November 3, 2009 at 12:35 AM
Actually those out of district VRWC dollars hurt more than you know. Not only did it hurt the opposition more than the out of district Dirty Dem Money did, there was enough hurt left over to stomp the filthy out of district carpetbagging Dem volunteer vermin dead in their tracks.
Dusty on November 3, 2009 at 12:35 AM
What a stunning lack of confidence…a far cry from October 26.
ddrintn on November 3, 2009 at 12:35 AM

Wait a second … maybe Grow Fins is actually Mad King Charles!
Is that you, Chuckles?
OhioCoastie on November 3, 2009 at 12:43 AM
He must still be there lurking, ’cause I don’t miss him yet.

Nah. I’d know. Chuckles is one of my biggest fans.

Now that that’s settled go away.
jdkchem on November 3, 2009 at 12:49 AM
Well y’all are doing great tonight. The Grow Fins thing successfully hijacked the thread. i get tired of reading its comments, and even tireder reading the comments about it. It will be back, perhaps under its current name or under a different one. Its name is Legion, because it appears that several different people are posting from that account. You have been played by a troll.
Buford Gooch on November 3, 2009 at 12:52 AM
Refer to my above post concerning trolls.
Dire Straits on November 3, 2009 at 12:53 AM

joejm65 on November 3, 2009 at 12:58 AM
Understandable, and to the point…
It is just this, when certain… “things” come and join us in the pool, with double standard outrage, we like playing with them like a cat with a mouse…
Especially when “it” says it will leave come a certain unforeseen political event.
Personally, I don’t believe “it” will be able to stay away, with all the voter fraud that the Democrats/ACORN/SEIU will pour into the local elections…
“It” will find any excuse to post, and take Soro’s (our) money.
The “game” is a foot…
Seven Percent Solution on November 3, 2009 at 1:02 AM
Growfins….why do you think Obama is smarter than you?
Socmodfiscon on November 3, 2009 at 1:02 AM
Go Hoffman go. I hope he sleeps well tonight. He’ll need it for the party, the after-party, and the after-after-party.
Party on Doug.
Mojave Mark on November 3, 2009 at 1:03 AM
More trolls is a leading indicator of a rising liberal fear index. We are making our way back to “pissing in their pants hiding in the corner” levels of trolls, a very positive sign.
ray on November 3, 2009 at 1:33 AM
They are describing themselves. They ARE a not-so-powerful minority party after they steered the party into the ditch with their free spending liberal ways.
ray on November 3, 2009 at 1:36 AM
You’ll probably be remembered like getalife. But Getalife had a catch phrase, “adults are in charge” or “get real cons”. What statement will you be remembered by?
FontanaConservative on November 3, 2009 at 1:51 AM
He got one thing right. As for the harnessing, it’ll only work if you want the harnessed folk to go in the direction they wanted to go all along. Otherwise you’re just asking for a wreck.

informed electorate who brought us Obama. Hahahahahahaha
Proof you are either stupid or you lie.
IowaWoman on November 3, 2009 at 3:19 AM
The best the GOP officials can do is follow us, if they don’t they lose. We are not “taking the party over” nor are we a noisy and powerful minority.
We are a a noisy and powerful majority and we are taking our Party back.
I rejected the “Republican Party label” because it no longer meant conservative. Is everyone blind? Can they not see the GOP’s problem? 40% of Americans are Conservative The GOP does not want to be labeled “Conservative” it seems to want to be the party of accept all. To me they are announcing they stand for nothing. Fools. With a Country that is 40% Conservative 40% Moderate and 20% Liberal, standing on conservative platform would be a obvious winner. The GOP is clueless, they say their problem is they lean too far right!
Lord save me

“Moderate republicans”.
I liken this to an executive at McDonalds saying “We have to serve pizza to be popular! If we don’t people will shun us for Pizza Hut.”
No, idiot. People LIKE hamburgers and don’t like coming in for a burger and being told “you will get pizza and like it”.
