Oh my: Cavuto challenges Shep Smith over claim that Fox isn’t balanced
posted at 6:05 pm on November 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
He never mentions him by name, of course, and I’m sure he’ll play dumb when asked about this, but there’s no doubt it was aimed at Shep’s now-infamous on-air upbraiding of Shannon Bream for interviewing Chris Christie without having an interview with Corzine already in the can. It’s the same reporter covering the same race and raising the same journalistic issue, i.e. whether it’s fair to give airtime to one candidate if his opponent is unavailable. Before I even saw the clip at Johnny Dollar’s, a reader e-mailed excitedly to say, “Cavuto just went after Shep!” Just a little context for you for when Neil inevitably claims he hasn’t the faintest idea what this is all about.
Speaking of Democrats who won’t appear on Fox News, the Standard notes that Team Barry has apparently had a dramatic change of heart about boycotting the network. Are they right that letting Hillary talk to Greta is the White House’s declaration of surrender in the war on FNC? Or is this a case of The One trying to punish his secretary of state for becoming something of a public embarrassment? Click the image to watch.

I need a source for that.
I gave a fair political identification of Fox, CNN, and MSNBC in my opinion. Of course, political positions and where someone lies on the political spectrum is all relative. Yet when looking at major issues, these networks cover them in a certain way. My own description of these networks reflect that.

Wasn’t Bill Clinton subjected to a right wing “nice little conservative” hit job on Wallace’s show with doing “Fox’s bidding”?

Poll every person who works for the news. Who did they vote for in the last election? That would tell you where 50/50 is.

I think Shlep suffers from some massive PMS at times. I’ve seen him go off on Gretchen one morning for absolutely no reason. I could care less about his commentary it’s just that his eyes are so far apart he looks like some freak. Eyes on both sides of his head. Hard to watch.

Here’s the source for which media outlets give to which parties. Note the totals for Fox News. $41,850 to Dems, $0 to Republicans.

Shep did make note that Corinzine was offered an interview the day after he made the offending statement. keep him on, I like the balance, plus he does all the crazy animal stories.

That’s your definition of “balance”, what a group of less than a thousand people on one blog think?

Del Dolemonte on November 2, 2009 at 7:45 PM
So now the moonbat wants me to do research for him. All he needs is that one tiny, little bit of data and he’ll magically stop spending every minute of his life being a braindead retard and desperately trying to share that with the world.
Yeah. I’ll get rid on that asswipe. Oh, and while I’m at it: please, please oh God PLEASE let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you fill in that one tiny, little, microscopic gap in your otherwise oh-so-all-encompassing knowledge of the Universe.
I really mean that. I really do. ‘Cause that’s pretty much the only reason God could possibly have had for putting me on this green earth, you ignorant jackass.

If you want to keep Shep, give Glenn the 2nd hour.
By the way, lib above, 2 conservatives a week are 2 more than msnbc has on their shows. I guess Fox is balanced compared to the rest of the cable shows.

We’re not feeding it, we just kicked its getalife to the Equator and back.
Del Dolemonte on November 2, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Well thanks for providing a source, though I wouldn’t necessarily connect the results as being a direct reflection of which way a network leans. I mean does anyone here seriously think Fox News is an outlet for the Democratic party? I mean, c’mon.
DanStark on November 2, 2009 at 7:58 PM
Wow, go away for a little bit, and when I get back there is a whole new crop of trolls. Methinks I smell fear…….
sandee on November 2, 2009 at 7:59 PM
You insult trolls; you pick on trolls; you point out that everything they say is a gigantic pile of mental excrement.
But you DON’T do Goddamned research for some braindead moron just because he asks you to.
It’s not like one link is going to magically make them stop being willfully idiotic. Think about it: most of these people have never held an actual conversation with an employable human being before. Treating them as equals is the closest thing to self-esteem they’ll ever feel.
You actually do something that one of them told you to, and you’ll never hear the end of it.

your link states:
Fox News/Fox News Channel: $1,280 / $0
MSNBC: $210 / $282
not including the… Ann Stewart Banker, a producer for Bill O’Reilly at Fox News Channel, gave $5,000 to Republicans… as noted this link from your post also

Intellectually, Neil Cavuto versus Shepherd Smith is a bit like Bugs Bunny versus Elmer Fudd.

Indeed. Shep is a prancing pony.
Sir Loin on November 2, 2009 at 9:16 PM
By the way–may I point out the humor of Cavuto talking about dreadful pictures of himself in a bathing suit right after he talks with Shanno Bream, and mentions Molly Line, two people who definitely SHOULD be seen in bathing suits?

Beautiful girls on Fox to read the news of the teleprompter.
Where is eye candy for the women?
Zero cute men on Fox….
Glenn has friggin changed the world…like it or not bloggers, Glenn has changed the conversation….The WH has put HIM on their enemies list.
But he is no eye candy…
Shep looks like the hillbilly that he thinks “we” all are, the suits alone are incredible. The suits need their own show…. Geraldo looks like a Jerry Springer contestant. Sixty and still trying to work that seedy “can I buy you a drink dear” essence.
Kevin Williamson was on Glenn today from NRO….that was a step up from any guy on Fox News.

I believe it was the 2004 election when word got out that all tv newsrooms EXCEPT Fox were running 90% or higher for Kerry. One morning, not long before the election, “Fox & Friends” announced that they had done an impromptu survey around the Fox set. The results were 49%/51%. But they NEVER SAID WHICH CANDIDATE GOT WHAT PER CENTAGE.

I can still remember Shep’s reporting during Katrina, from New Orleans, blaming Bush and FEMA for the deaths in the Superdome (remember the ones that didn’t happen) and it actually took a calm Major Garrett to get to the bottom of the story. That was when I realized that Shep was apt to go off the deep end occasionally and Fox had themselves a winner in Major Garrett.
Shep still goes off the deepend and Major Garrett is doing a great job at the White House. Would Shep be willing to ask the tough questions?
bflat879 on November 2, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Shep would be happier elsewhere. During Katrina coverage, his emotionalism made me sick. He has been \”stuck on stupid\” for several years.

Fox does have two hot guys. Mike Baker and Steve Hayes.
Although Charles Krauthammer is the one who really gives me the tingle up my leg when he speaks!
margategop517 on November 3, 2009 at 1:35 AM
I’ve never liked Shep. Not because of his opinions, although he is weird with his little breakdowns, but because he has an annoying way of speaking. Maybe because he has a Southern accent and is trying to cover it up? I don’t know, but it is irritating, and I always feel like he is speaking slowly and condescendingly, and speaking too loudly, like he doesn’t realize he is wearing a microphone and thinks we might not be able to hear him. He’s also not the brightest bulb in the box. There are a lot better newsreaders out there than him.
Boudica on November 3, 2009 at 3:24 AM
Shep is OK but I think he beclowned himself the other day. His little hissy fit made no sense whatsoever. Bream gets an interview with Christie but Corzine turns it down. In what universe does a reporter then say “oh, well, to be fair, we shouldn’t interview anyone?” Really stupid move on Shep’s part. As if A Mess NBC or any other network would turn down a Corzine interview if Christie had refused.
WarEagle01 on November 3, 2009 at 8:20 AM
Hillary has ALWAYS talked to Greta, they would not DARE to tell her not to talk to FOX (not to talk to Israel yes sadly but they cant stop her talking to FOX), she would laugh in their faces
that is one thing HRC does NOT have to take from the Obamabots

I think Smith is not okay. The other week he had a nurse on from New York who was protesting being ordered to take the Swine Flu vaccine as a condition of empolyment. When she mention that it was new, poorly tested and contained potentially harmful additives, he went off on her. In explicably, he said that she didn’t know what she was talking about, that she had never researched the vaccine, that her words were irresponsible, and that she was harming the people of the US. He then apologized to the audience saying he thought the interview with the nurse was about not being forced to take injection against your will and was unprepared for her comments about the vaccine, and that her remarks were very very harmful, and if he had known he would never have let her on. Sheer idiocy.
For weeks I’ve been wondering what it would take to get him off Fox; there are so may other smart guys who can take his place. Smith can’t even read a teleprompter well or know that subject that he’s talking about.
I think he’s bucking for Bret Beier’s job, or probably more like Dan Rather’s.

I was watching FOX News Cable station while Shep Smith was on. I saw part of Shannon Bream’s remote reporting and observed Shep Smith make that statement about how we are supposed to be fair and balanced, where is Corzine to give balance?
I was surprised at his chiding of Shannon.
She told Shep that FOX News has attempted to interview Corzine but he and his folks did not respond to numerous attempts yet.
That is a legitimate consideration that Shannon gave. Often people who are part of a news story will NOT talk, but will hesitate, procrastinate, tease, change appointments, not show up, etc., leaving the news interviewer or station with no interview.
The Democrats have been notorious for such action regarding FOX News, and even for other, more local stations affiliated with CBS, etc.
In Philadelphia, for example, a station was threatened in order to prevent them from giving negative news related to a Democrat hero, and other events. That station was not a FOX News Station either. The same has occurred throughout the nation.
During the Presidential Campaign Debates, the Democrats boycotted FOX News’ hosting of the Democrat debates, showing their thin skin and their lack of guts, as well as their little girlie, little sissy nature, the big chickens!
In other words, the Democrats-Leftists-Liberals-Fifth Columnists-Marxists-Socialists ARE active in blowing off FOX News and other stations IF the station will not play ball and stroke them and make them appear wonderful.
I am certain that, had Corzine’s people, or Corzine, agreed to an interview, that FOX would have had Corzine’s side included in the piece.
Bottom line, Shannon Bream came off as clean and honest, and Shep came off (to me) as asking for trouble, or trying to find trouble in nothing.
