It’s on: Palin vs. Biden on energy

posted at 4:10 pm on November 2, 2009 by Allahpundit

Something spicy from this morning’s sparsely attended rally for Owens in NY-23. In one corner: A widely disliked dimwit who came to national prominence on last year’s ticket. In the other corner: Sarah Palin. Evidently she’s embraced a rapid response strategy to her critics because this makes twice in two days where some charge leveled against her was answered within hours on Facebook:

As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence. Among other things, my alternative energy goal for Alaska sits at 50 percent because Alaska reached more than 20 percent during my term in office. The Obama-Biden administration, on the other hand, recently announced a renewable goal of only 25 percent. However, domestic drilling should remain a top priority in order to meet America’s consumption and security needs.

The vice president’s extreme opposition to domestic energy development goes all the way back to 1973 when he opposed the Alaska pipeline bill. As Ann Coulter pointed out, “Biden cast one of only five votes against the pipeline that has produced more than 15 billion barrels of oil, supplied nearly 20 percent of this nation’s oil, created tens of thousands of jobs, added hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and reduced money transfers to the nation’s enemies by about the same amount.”

This nonsensical opposition to American domestic energy development continues to this day. Apparently the Obama-Biden administration only approves of offshore drilling in Brazil, where it will provide security and jobs for Brazilians. This election is about American security and American jobs.

There’s one way to tell Vice President Biden that we’re tired of folks in Washington distorting our message and hampering our nation’s progress: Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman!

Biden, of course, is working off a script by mentioning Palin; as noted on Saturday, Sarahcuda’s playing the same boogeyman role for Democrats these days that Pelosi’s playing for Republicans. That’s one of the reasons why, despite her high-profile backing of Hoffman and her offer to help McDonnell and Christie, you’re not seeing her out on the trail in any of these races. So nervous is McDonnell about being linked to her, in fact, that not only is he not mentioned by name in her new robocall in Virginia but he specifically denied knowing anything about it when asked. Hey, Bob? You’re about to give Deeds an unholy beating. Mellow out. Click the image to watch.

I don’t think that group running those calls is allowed to mention any candidates by name. And, since he had said thanks but no thanks before, I doubt they did tell him that she’d be making these calls.

I really don’t get the criticism here regarding McDonnell and Palin. I think he knows what he’s doing.

Oh, for pete’s sake, get a grip. He’s running for Governor of Virginia, not Congress, and he doesn’t need Sarah Palin’s help, nor does she have anything particular to add to his campaign — unless she has suddenly come up with a great transportation plan for northern Virginia.

Yes folks, another Palin post by AP. It’s obvious AP has a crush on the lady (who is undeniably a MILF), but from the shear number of posts devoted to her one might think that she is the most important figure in the conservative movement.

guest77 on November 2, 2009 at 4:17 PM

Did you consider that she might possibly be the most important figure in the conservative movement?

And it’s spelled “sheer”. “Shear” refers to what you do to sheep. And your MILF reference is off-color to say the least.

Please go and learn the facts before making statements like this. The Washington Post and the Democratic Party have been attacking McDonnell since July as a right-wing nutjob. He had among the most conservative voting records in the Virginia legislature. He has been endorsed by every conservative group there is, as well as the NRA.

I’m not a shrewd political operator; I admit it. But I’m failing to understand the point of view of the campaign managers of current high profile races. The “thinking” seems to be the following:

1. If election is close, don’t ask Palin for help, out of fear that her appearance will alienate the elusive moderate voters.

2. If election is an easy win, don’t ask Palin for help; no point taking a risk if you’ve got it in the bag anyway.

Sure, I’ll agree that her value may or may not be high for any one race, but do they really think she’s poison? I’m not buying it.

In VA McDonnell simply doesn’t need her help. To do what, exactly? The base here is already fired up and ready to go. I think he wants it to be about him and his campaign message, and Palin just overwhelms everything. Look at how everyone is discussing this robo-call, with Dems sending audio to media outlets and trumpeting it as some sort of indictment of the McDonnell, even though he’s not mentioned and its not part of his campaign. Huck did one too…anyone talking about that? No.

All Palin did was to record a call for the Virginia based “Freedom & Faith Coalition”. It was a non-candidate specific ad, just a GOTV effort on behalf of conservative voters in the state.

Palin did not make a big deal out of this, but some in the McDonnell camp did (I am guessing RINO Ed Gillespie). Which was a mistake on their part, not Palin’s.

I guess there is a reason why NY-23 seems far more interesting to us than the VA Gov race.

The McDonnell camp didn’t make a big deal about it, either, but the opposition did. Of course the media runs with it, and now today one of the big stories is Palin and not the campaign message.

RockMom was absolutely correct when she said this

If the new conservative litmus test becomes whether you have Sarah Palin come and speak for you, we are in trouble. She is not the be-all and end-all of conservatism!

McDonnell has been raked over the coals here for his conservatism. He didn’t run from it, he just stayed on message stressing the pocketbook issues Virginians are most concerned about. He ran a nearly flawless campaign…but having Palin not come, when she wasn’t needed, suddenly means he’s not a great conservative? That’s crazy.

Kirin on November 2, 2009 at 5:27 PM

Okay, let me get this straight. Palin gives these Republicans the boost in the arm they need; an endorsement with conservative teeth — not to mention the most wildly popular conservative in memory — and the party apparatchik (the dim bulbs in the GOP think tank) want to distance themselves from the very fresh air they’ve been given?

Until we get these smelly buzzards out of the leadership of the GOP, they don’t get one thin dime from me. I’ll give to SarahPac or to my own congresswoman.

I must admit that I agree with most of her positions, but I have to question if she is the right messenger for conservatives to hang their hat on. Moreover, she is polarizing and not very popular with middle America, which is why some Republicans have declined her offer to campaign for them. Only half true. She’s polarizing, but Middle America loves her when they listen to her. It takes a lot of Palin bashing to turn them off.

The reason many GOP folks are avoiding her is 1) the GOP old guard doesn’t like her, and 2) she motivates liberals, who hate any person who has succeeded without relying on class warfare.

hawksruleva on November 2, 2009 at 6:13 PM

FYI: If these idiots would have allowd drilling in Alaska last summer, we would be on our way to oil independence. It takes about two months to produce an oil well, not the 10 years they LIED about.

Chris of Rights on November 2, 2009 at 6:29 PM

Biden comes from the woman in the kitchen era, never had to deal with a woman with brains, beauty and moxie, since she has had more EXPERIENCE than Obummer and Biden to-gether he should not engage her, he can only lose again and again.

I love the fact that she drives the lefty loons crazy I am with her 100%.

Nobody ever talks about dull, stupid, and ugly women(Dowd comes to mind) Go Sarah.

If the new conservative litmus test becomes whether you have Sarah Palin come and speak for you, we are in trouble. She is not the be-all and end-all of conservatism!

rockmom on November 2, 2009 at 4:50 PM

No, but being deathly afraid of the woman says something as well, and it ain’t just that the NYT doesn’t like Palin.

ddrintn on November 2, 2009 at 4:56 PM

‘Zackly right, ddr. I could care less if McDonnell, whom I don’t know, doesn’t want Palin’s help. I am concerned, though, when I hear a Republican disavowing a conservative, as McDonnell seems to do to Palin, and as Newt recently did to Hoffman. There is WAY to much of that going on right now. No one can smoke out a RINO like Sarah can. The eunuchs who run the GOP from DC detest her. You remember them, right rockmom, the folks who gave us Specterd over Toomey 5 years ago? I know you do. So when a Republican goes out of his way to avoid her, and disavows her support, that to me smells of RINO.

Now, it may well be that the smell comes from that ex-Bush WH slimeball Ed Gillespie. But even the choice of Gillispie by McDonnell doesn’t speak so well of the man.

Look, Virginians can pick who they want. I’ve got my eyes on the national GOP/Whig people, who have earned my deepest distrust, and they are definitely involved in McDonnell’s campaign. If he wins tomorrow and it is spun as a defeat for Maobama, that’s a good thing. Whether there would be any good news in his election for an ex-GOP conservative remains to be seen.

Energy?

It’s a no match. Come on.

Lightweight Biden should never sign for a match with Heavy weight Palin especially on the issue of energy independence.

But dissing her won’t give you any good start either.

Why many of us believe in Palin? Because she believes in the principles of Reagan.

And you can start with Reagan’s 11th commandment: Stop dissing your own.

Joe Biden…bless his heart.

SKYFOX on November 2, 2009 at 6:59 PM

Ya gotta love joe-logic: Drill baby Drill is no good because it leaves us dependent on foreign oil.

But in reality, Drill Baby Drill is about drill for our own oil so we won’t be dependent on foreign oil.

Joe Biden: Impeachment Insurance.

This is better than the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show with 2 Shidleys in the White House to do the dirty work. It just don’t get any better than this sh*t.

This nonsensical opposition to American domestic energy development continues to this day. Apparently the Obama-Biden administration only approves of offshore drilling … where it will provide security and jobs for Brazilians.

.
Greasy Joe: A brazilian…remind me how many jobs is that?
