Clinton reverses Obama on Israeli settlements?
posted at 12:55 pm on November 2, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Those of you who thought that the Obama approach to foreign policy was to anger our allies while retreating from our enemies can now relax. Apparently, we’ll retreat from our allies, too. The Times of London reports that Hillary Clinton has apparently hit the reset button with Binyamin Netanyahu on the issue of settlement expansion, angering the Palestinians and confusing everyone else:
The Palestinian leadership accused the US of caving in over Israeli settlements after Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, praised Israel for making concessions.
Having failed to force Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, to meet US demands for a total settlement freeze, Mrs Clinton switched tack during a one-day visit to Jerusalem when she called on both sides to resume peace talks.
“What the Prime Minister has offered in specifics of a restraint on the policy of settlements . . . is unprecedented,” Mrs Clinton said. …
The comments by Mrs Clinton were in contrast to the previous stance of the Obama Administration, which has pressured Israel to halt all settlement construction. In May, after President Obama’s first meeting with Mr Netanyahu, Mrs Clinton said that the US “wants to see a stop to settlements — not some settlements, not outposts, not natural growth exceptions”.
Mr Netanyahu has been unmovable, saying that the nearly 500,000 settlers in the West Bank and east Jerusalem could not be expected to stop building facilities as their communities expanded. He has however proposed limiting construction to about 3,000 homes that have been approved already by the Israeli authorities in the West Bank. He has not considered any halt in east Jerusalem, which was captured with the West Bank and Gaza by Israel in the Six Day War.
In other words, the Obama administration has become quite egalitarian. Regardless of friend or foe, if another nation refuses to meet our demands, we’ll simply cave and praise them anyway. I’m certain Iran will take the appropriate lesson from this incident. The Palestinians certainly did; they referred to it as “American back-tracking,” and refused Hillary’s calls to return to negotiations.
In this case, the reversal is warranted. The Palestinians still have not produced leadership that has any credibility as a partner for peace in the region. The Israelis got all the pressure to stop settlements while the US ignored the more obvious provocations by Palestinians, mostly in Gaza but also in the West Bank. The latest incidents at the al-Aqsa mosque show that the Palestinians want confrontation and battle, not negotiations and peace.
But even beyond the specifics of the issue, the move seems very odd. The White House seems adrift on foreign policy, especially in the Middle East, careening from one position to another in reactionary mode rather than having a comprehensive philosophy and approach to diplomacy. The pinballing on missile defense in eastern Europe showed this over the last two months, and now the way that Obama and Clinton are handling one of America’s closest allies seems bizarrely inconsistent. They have strained American credibility with both friend and foe to the breaking point, and still do not seem to have any idea of what they want or how to get it.

Sadly for US foreign policy, most thinking Israelis are simply averting their eyes from the appalling and futile thrashings of the US State Dept.
It is of no consequence at all anymore what these blithering self-absorbed agents of the One say to us (or, for that matter, to our foes). We in the Middle East may lack the strange Western sophistication that allows one to call white black and black white, but we are pretty sure we know liars and weasels when we see them.
We look forward to the US electing a respectable government again, at which point we can work on rebuilding a mutually-respectful relationship. I am sure that most Americans can understand our indifference and contempt for “leaders” like the ones you have now, who cannot even discern who are their allies and who their enemies.
For now, your White House is nothing to Israelis or Arabs but a pack of weak, dithering, desperate idiots. Hilary can come and go as she pleases, as can the rest of the One’s minions – but I assure you, the time when we might have listened or cooperated has long since passed. When you decided we should not build homes for our children in our own land, you just about sewed that one up.
Here’s to a brighter future where our nations reclaim their excellence, pride, and prosperity.

This traitorous, moronic administration is ‘overcharged’ and ready to blow. Unfortunately, like the suicide bombers The Precedent admires and follows, the explosion will try to take as much of civilization with it. Shrillary is no friend of Israel, no lover of Israel, and does Israel no favors, at all. All she has done is concede a bit of obvious defeat for The Precedent’s anti-Western insanity while still trying to bully Israel into laying itself prostrate in front of the savages and waiting for them to kill it.
And don’t get so enthusiastic about this. The anti-US US administration and their slimebag Rice at the UN will be working on all sorts of anti-Israel resolutions and declarations. They are merely trying to find another way to lure Israel into the guillotine … though they are perfectly willing to tone down the rhetoric while they wait for Israel to defend itself against Iran after which this administration will launch the most powerful attempt to strangulate Israel and kill the nation, so that the savage arabs can take over the land and turn it back into the sh!thole that it was before the Jews returned.
Shrillary is a pathetic joke.
As I have tried, in vain, to explain to allah, over and over, this is the actual intention of The Precedent. Why is it so difficult to understand? All he wants to do is destroy every bit of America that he can, and making a joke of our institutions (whether to friend or foe) is part of that whole strategy. Destroying American credibility (thereby hampering any future attempts to correct what the Indonesian imbecile has done) is part of that strategy, just as the dithering in Afghanistan is exactly what he wanted to do. When will people realize this obvious fact? It is obvious because it is the only thread that runs through every single policy of the traitorous moron in the White House. But … “moderates” and those who refuse to accept the simple truth that The PRecedent is a political suicide bomber out to do as much damage to the US as he is able will never get it. They will constantly look for some clever strategy operating in the background (as if the Indonesian imbecile with the IQ of 87 could possibly come up with such a strategy, anyway) and refuse to see the explanation that weaves its way through every decision and every position that this White House takes.

Seeing as you brought it up Ed:
MSNBC thinks H1N1 is the top story of the day. Second most important story— wondering if President Hamid Karzai’s victory is legitimate.
But here’s some facts I compiled while listening to Dr. Nancy and her interview with Kathleen Sebelius:
30 million doses out there, but will not be despensed for months—-under 10% of the population, with 9 million more in production each week.
With 300 million citizens, that leaves 270 million still unprotected. 270 divided by 9 = 30 more weeks to cover the nation. Thirty weeks puts us into ahhhhh…..7 1/2 months….April of 2010.
A medical “professional” says “150 million are requesting the vaccine.”
“56 million doses will make it into the pipeline leaving approx. 100 million who want this without any chance of getting it.”
Bottom line……H1N1 prevention is a bigger joke than GW’s and FEMA’s response time on Katrina……..where’s the outrage from the media???
When will MSNBC start to worry about the U.S. Government take-over of private companies and mandated health care choices? Likely never.
(I “rushed” through these figures, so I could be off by a few hundred thousand—give or take)

The photo of our brilliant Secretary of State–Hillary Clinton–standing next to Benjamin Netanyahu is quite telling. You can see what he is thinking as she prattles on like a dog barking far away in the night.
***
Bibi is thinking, “How much longer do I have before I have to order the strike on the Iranian nuke sites?”. He is thinking about how his brother died after being shot by a sniper in the tower at the Entebbe Airport as the Israeli Soldiers rescued the hostages there–and the U.N. and other countries talked and dithered.
***
He is thinking about the Holocaust when the world caused the European Jews to die because the French and English governments failed to take out Hitler the first time he violated the Versailles “Peace Treaty”. It could have been done easily in the early 1930′s.
***
Bibi knows he–and Israel–are on their own again. And he wants our clueless SOS to leave and stop wasting his time. He has a lot more important items on his “to do” list.

I explained it in my post above. The Precedent just wants to suck the credibility and trust out of every American institution that he can. That is how to do the most long-term damage to our nation and our way of life. Our government only exists on the Full Faith and Credit that people have in it and that is exactly what he is attacking (with the help of the gang of useful idiots around him). The Precedent is lucky that no real brains or competence is necessary to effectively destroy the credibility of our larger institutions.
Shrillary is just too stupid to know what the hell she’s doing. She is the epitome of the incompetent fool. If she were a male, she’d be the court jester – and not a funny one, either. Shrillary makes Albright look half-intelligent, and Albright had barely enough brain power to breathe without the aid of machines.

Ed-
It makes perfect sense. The key word here would be ‘gelt’ aka money, the kind Obama needs from his Jewish constituency, and which he might not be getting if he continued his misguided harangue against Israel.
This is also a lesson for Obama who thought, wrongfully, that if he came down hard on Israel and showed the Arabs he was on their side, they would come to the table. Imagine Obama’s surprise to find out that it wasn’t about HIM! The Arab intransigence must have been quite an eye-opener for the Sainted One.
Anyway, there’s more. You can read my take on all of this @ http://www.thecjpoliticalreport.com/my_two_sense1.html.

Bibi 1, Mrs. Bubba 0.
Netanyahu isn’t stupid–he’s been there, done that with the Palestinians, given up settlements and gotten nothing in return except rockets blowing up civilians in Israeli border cities.
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is in a real quandary. Does she obey her boss, whom she herself described as naive and dangerous last year, or does she listen to her husband, who (while shady) is NOT naive?
So now, U.S. foreign policy can be summarized as:
Leap (Obama)
Look
Backtrack (Hillary).

The biggest problem with your scenario is that it is NOT YOUR LAND and never was!
Here is a map of the shrinking palestine
http://www.ifamericansknew.org/images/4maps.jpg
The Israeli government clears an area MILITARILY and then puts in “settlers”.
Where did all the people go mogen?
Sure, SOME people escaped with their lives..
Not only has the isralei government murdered many many ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN Palestinians..they murdered MY FRIEND: RACHEL CORRIE!
For those of you unfamiliar with Rachel Corrie, do a google search.
She was a friend of mine, a 23 year old American girl who went to palestine to assess the situation and help those in poverty.
She described the situation over there as horrific, days before she was MURDERED by the Israeli government.
This 23 year old American girl was witnessing the israeli military BULLDOZING a palestinian village..she stood in front of the bulldozer and unbelievably, the israeli military did not stop but RAN HER RIGHT OVER WITH THE BULLDOZER AND MURDERED HER!
The US government did NOTHING about this and her murderers have not been brought to justice to this day!
That’s what’s going on over there.
You neocons who support this, need to be aware of this and repent for your support of these atrocities.
Mogen, this situation that you are in right now over there is not going to last. These evil deeds will not go unpunished but will come back to bite you.
The Russian military is in your back door in syria right now and THEY ARE coming to get you.
GAME OVER.
The younger generation of Americans overwhelmingly DO NOT support you.
GAME OVER.
Repent, accept the Lord Jesus Christ the Jewish Messiah as your Saviour!
Create a two state solution as soon as posible and live in peace!
This is the only logical solution that will guarantee your safety and that will guarantee peace in the midle east for you and for all!

The Christian palestinians have much more problems, and are murdered and driven out, by MUSLIM palestinians. I’m sure you know that but don’t like to admit it. You are probably also aware that Christian Lebanese have been put upon by the muslim lebanese and driven out of that country, as well. Many of the Christian lebanese were strong supporters of Israel. Some of Sharon’s biggest supporters were Christian southern lebanese. Again, I’m sure you know that but just like to skip over it in your rants against Israel.
BTW, what was the Christian/muslim split in Lebanon 30 years ago? What is it today? What caused that?
