Conference call with Hoffman campaign

posted at 7:55 pm on November 1, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The American Conservative Union’s PAC arranged for a conference call with media and bloggers this evening to discuss the events of the last 48 hours.  Among the participants — Matt Burns, a former spokesperson for Dede Scozzafava.  Stacy McCain and Eric Odom, who first broke the news of Scozzafava’s withdrawal from the race yesterday, joined as “special guests” of the call.

Burns said he didn’t relish being on the defensive from conservative bloggers, but that he came back to NY-23 to elect a Republican.  He worked hard for Scozzafava, and at the end, she withdrew in order to keep the district Republican.  Burns apparently got surprised by Scozzafava’s decision today, and he wanted to stress that only one person in the race would now be a vote against Nancy Pelosi, and that is Doug Hoffman.

Burns said he agreed with Newt Gingrich that we need a big tent in order to win enough seats to have power.  However, now in NY-23 the important thing is to elect someone who will oppose Pelosi.  Stacy asked how the RNC and the NRCC got it so wrong, but Burns said the decision was made by the local leaders, not the national party.  John Hawkins asked if the NRCC spent $900,000 on Scozzafava; all Burns would say is that the NRCC provided “substantial” support.

The Hoffman campaign says they are now seeing a lot of local Republicans are now flocking to Hoffman.  They believe they still will have a problem with a couple of the county GOP leaders, mainly because they’re likely embarrassed how their selection turned out.  As a result, the Hoffman campaign needs an influx of volunteers in NY-23, especially in a couple of the Scozzafava counties.  The RNC and NRCC are now directing resources to the Hoffman team, but they need boots already on the ground in the district.

Hey anyone that gave money to the GOP they threw some of your money into DeeDees’ rathole.

THIS is why I only send back solicitation “survey” letters from the GOP with MY COMMENTS and NO CASH!!!!

And the GOP provides a handy self addressed envelope for your to respond to their solicitations.

Enough with this Big Tent charade. They don’t make tents that big. The tent would have to be moved many miles to fit Scozzafava into it which would leave out all real conservatives, but I guess that is what Newt wanted.

Watertown, NY update:

Scozz backs Owens.

Scozz’s campaign mgr. backs Hoffman.

Cagefight to the end.

I’ll be recruiting 912′ers at Bidens pow-wow tomorrow morning. I’m sure there will Secret Service goons everywhere.

I heard Fred Thompson is coming in to Watertown tomorrow, so I’m hoping to meet him.

Passed out flyers at most of the cars during all the church’s service today (I attended yesterday at St. Pat’s). Gospel was the Beatitudes.

A person I called said they had two kids with the swine flu but he would do what he can to help out on Tuesday. Is that fanatical devotion or what?

Word on the ground here is that it will be tough and that Sarah’s endorsement really was the key after Fred and Dick got the engine started.

I cannot see how Sarah does not reap the leadership mantle of the GOP going into 2010. Vision and courage is her hallmark. AP meltdown?

They also need to instruct people who they might be able to change their vote if they have already cast a mail in balot. Can voters in NY cast a provisional ballot at the polling place to override a mail in ballot where the candidate they voted for has withdrawn?

A lot of people have already cast their ballots (maybe two or three of them if they are Democrats) and being able to change the vote might be important if it can be done in that state/county. It can be done in my county IF you show up at the poll on election day, cast a provisional ballot and sign some sort of affidavit that you want your mail in ballot nullified or something.

A win in the 23rd and another DC TEA Party on Nov 5th with Michelle Bachman calling us to Washington, D.C. to help defeat this DemoCare bill. Local TEA Party organizations are organizing to go to DC on the 5th so I contacted her and wrote as follows:

I am with you on utilizing MLK’s peaceful efforts to stop this health care debacle. The 912 Project groups are spreading the word but we need direction. We need a leader and I believe that you are the one we need

Here is what I have been proposing for six or so months throughout the Internet and to the organizations I belong. We should be prepared to follow the example set in Tennessee after the governor and legislature proposed to vote in and approve a state income tax in 1999. The MSM seems to have neglected to report much on this, so go to glennreynolds.com/?p=8 and http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/staterights/tenn_taxprotest.htm for some details.

I have suggested in my comments on blogs and my blog in the past that those of us who are outraged over the conduct of this congress and administration need to become more pro-active and emulate the TN tax revolt. I heard information on FNC the other day that added a new dimension to this idea. FNC, with their tracking down of Alan Grayson, D-Fla. of “Republicans want you to die quickly ” fame, infuriated Rep. Grayson causing him to call the Capitol Police to come to his office to remove the FOX reporter and camera man. FOX was outside of his office, not inside of it. The officer told the Mr. Grayson that they could stay outside of his office until the building closed since it was a public area.

This reminded me of what we were allowed to do when I was working with the Gathering of Eagles in 2007 on Capital Hill and what I observed being done by Code Pink. So if we are to become more pro-active, we could flood the halls of the congressional offices quite legally and peacefully; I mean it is OUR property. The Capitol, supposedly, has the same rules, but in each case signs, posters, etc are not allowed and decorum has to be maintained. But a quiet and respectful picketing of each of the congressional offices of all tax and spend congressional members for many consecutive days if not weeks would be a magnificent achievement. 20 people per office, to allow for breaks and assuming all offices were staked out, would only require 10,700 people. 4 hours on and 4 off from the opening of the office building until their close. Two could be assigned to follow the congress people in public areas until he/she disappears into a congressional elevator/underground railway or the respective chamber. Everyone should have a video camera or camera to cover any confrontations by OUR employees; i.e. Representatives or Senators. For an angry mob that could mobilize 1.5 million or 70,000 people, take your pick, rounding up 10,700 people should be relatively easy, especially with all of the retirees all riled up.

I suspect, since congressional members are so arrogant and consider themselves our betters, we could outlast them as was done in Tennessee because they would not be able to handle the frustration of not being able to control us. Now that would be a fantastic in your face protest.

F15Mech on November 1, 2009 at 8:43 PM

I agree totally. I think Americans everywhere are starting to realize that Health Care for Illegal Aliens is a must-have.

Why do we millions and millions of republicans want to support Mrs. Pelosi? Because it’s time. It’s that simple. It’s time. Need we say more? Because we’re not going to. Nor would we, if we needed to, know what else could be said, but if you really think about it, “it’s time” really sums it up. I mean, it stands for the fact that the time for Health Care is now. It’s time, and time is of the essence. Essence of what? Of Health Care.

I feel a change in the air, Republicans are seeing things Mrs. Pelosi’s way at long last. Because it’s time.

So, how do we make sure there are no more “Specters” already in the pipeline for 2010?

Hoffman is will be the toast of the town on Wednesday.

I predict Hoffman will win. I’m going to drink beer and blog all night Tuesday and gloat like a mofo over the carcass of any troll in the vicinity over the righteous wins in VA, NY and hopefully Joisy too.

The Republican Party needs to decide if it wins with people who want an “R,” or people who are Conservatives. Its relevancy will decide which is of most benefit.

Good idea. A toast to Hoffman!

The big tent needs to be burnt down & RHINOS like Burns, Newt & Steele need to be tossed. It’s time for the GOP to do the bidding of the electorate & if they cannot, then it’s time for a new party. Principles are what matter!!

Is there any way that she can be tossed out of the Republican Party?

You gotta be “in” before you can get tossed out!

And a toast to Sarah for energizing the Conservatives to act on Hoffman’s behalf.

Lets save the toasting until the fat lady sings or swears as the case may be….
