Video: Boehner’s “gamechanging” message on ObamaCare

posted at 3:17 pm on October 31, 2009 by Allahpundit

An interesting clip, not because it’s an actual “gamechanger” but because of what it suggests about Palin’s relationship with the party these days. This is the vid she went out of her way to hype yesterday on Facebook, in really effusive terms too:

Mark my words – tomorrow is the game changer! Tune in to hear common sense solutions that bury the false accusations that conscientious members of Congress have no solutions to meet America’s health care challenges.

If you’re like me, shaking your head wondering why all the miscommunication between Washington and the American people who have been saying, “Please hear what we’re saying about our desire for health care reform,” then tomorrow will be a refreshing time of clarity for all.

All Americans, and especially colleagues of House Republican Leader John Boehner: please listen to tomorrow’s weekly GOP national address. Rep. Boehner will highlight a common sense alternative to Speaker Pelosi’s 1,990-page government takeover of health care. I urge you to watch for it. For a preview, go to: http://HealthCare.GOP.gov

You’ll hear solutions. You’ll hear of real choices based on America’s proven free-market principles. You’ll know once and for all what the GOP and Independents have been saying all along about alternatives to another big government take over. After tomorrow, you’ll know that accusations against the GOP and Independents for not providing solutions are false. Those claims are bogus. There are alternatives. Tune in to Rep. Boehner’s address tomorrow to hear them.

I look forward to the game changer!

Here’s the clip; judge for yourselves. It’s perfectly fine as a brief summary of GOP alternatives to ObamaCare, and Byron York’s right that focusing on the size of Pelosi’s bill is a nice way to illustrate the growth in federal bureaucracy, but it ain’t changing any games. So why the big buzz from Sarahcuda? Because: Her endorsement of Hoffman, which acted as a benediction for grassroots activism against the GOP nominee, probably pissed off the House Republican leadership something awful. Once the tide turned and Scozzafava started to collapse, she could afford to be magnanimous and make a conciliatory gesture. Voila: A communique to her hundreds of thousands of supporters to watch Boehner’s address today, proving that she can be a good soldier for the party too. It’ll be interesting going forward to see if further “outsider” gestures are quickly followed by little favors like this to the GOP, just to keep the peace.

Do you have an inside source for all the insider trading you say is happening? Or are you just musing? (In the south we call it throwing you know what against the wall to see if it sticks.

Often I think you over-think things. The left did that with GWB for the first year, asking over and over “what did he really mean when he said that?” In actuality, GWB meant exactly what he said when he said it. The problem is in D.C. that is so rare, people don’t believe it.

Maybe Palin thinks it is a game changer and you don’t. Neither of you are perfect.

I suggest you quit looking under every rock for a worm of meaning. Sometimes it is what it is.

archer52 on October 31, 2009 at 5:03 PM

No problem with ObamaCare because all those voting for it are going to “Pledged His Life, Fortune, and Sacred Honor” in the event that their are miscalculations in the costs, etc.

J_Crater on October 31, 2009 at 5:04 PM

Her endorsement of Hoffman, which acted as a benediction for grassroots activism against the GOP nominee, probably pissed off the House Republican leadership something awful.

mmm, no. Here is another take. The relationship is actually good, Palin saw the speech (Boehner, the rest of the leadership gave her a pre-read), liked it and endorsed it. A savvy politician like Plain will not endorse a program she hasn’t seen, call it a game-changer.

Now … to issue being raised by Allahpundit:

Some insiders said that the speeched was listened to by millions of Americans.

Boehner tweeted Sarah Palin “twice” to specially thank her for the parroting.

TheAlamos on October 31, 2009 at 5:04 PM

Sarah Palin isn’t starting a 3rd party; she is remaking the GOP.

bitsy on October 31, 2009 at 5:04 PM

That Saracuda’s pretty dain smart.

t.ferg on October 31, 2009 at 5:16 PM

Allah, when it comes to Palin you are really starting to sound like a petulant child who can’t stand it when the grown-ups are right and you went and stuck you tongue to the cold flag pole anyway even when they told you not to do it.

First the anti-Hoffman poll spin and now the Palin “good soldier” spin, sounds to me like at least one moderate Republican isn’t being a supporter who really wants to see {R}s win, unless they are actually (D)s in disguise…..

woodythesingingcowboy on October 31, 2009 at 5:19 PM

We have to add to this by calling our representatives and asking if these points are in the bill.
Then if not why not?
Nothing will scare the blue dogs more than an informed voters calling them and offering alternatives..
Just a thought, now burn the phone lines folks.

Gracelynn on October 31, 2009 at 5:20 PM

I’ve been saying for months that Palin won’t go third party, she ’s gonna beat the GOP over the head until it more closely resembles what Reagan had in mind.

It is the Reagan model. No pale pastels, bold colors.

Faster, please.

Brian1972 on October 31, 2009 at 5:21 PM

I like AP’s analysis here. SP also gets another dig in on this horrendous bill, which can only be supported by the Hollywood/gravy train set.

GnuBreed on October 31, 2009 at 5:26 PM

What I find interesting is that if ObamaCare were a vote to give nanny control over our lives to the Pope, the all Hallows eve screams and howls would be true to life, but giving away our right to self determination and to be let alone over to the US government? Sure, no big deal.

Speakup on October 31, 2009 at 5:27 PM

As Cindy noted page 1 of comments:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is urging Americans to come to Washington, D.C., next week to roam the halls of Congress and lobby lawmakers against the House Democrats’ healthcare reform plan. Source: The Hill

Sarah a hired/paid gun? She brings a lot of passionate people to the party.

marklmail on October 31, 2009 at 5:58 PM

It’s perfectly fine as a brief summary of GOP alternatives to ObamaCare, and Byron York’s right that focusing on the size of Pelosi’s bill is a nice way to illustrate the growth in federal bureaucracy, but it ain’t changing any games.

Maybe she was referring to the games being played inside the GOP, or maybe to the games being played by you, Allah.

donh525 on October 31, 2009 at 6:02 PM

AP in a way I think you are right. This is no game changer. Unless getting the word out on what republicans have been trying to do for some time makes it a game changer.

This was a peace offering. We will see how the GOP reacts and if they will soften the tone with the Cuda. She does not want a third party, she wants to reshape the GOP into something the tea party bunch can get behind.

They will need to change or wither on the vine. I hope she succeeds.

conservnut on October 31, 2009 at 6:03 PM

I don’t see the RINOs coming around. Some of those less connected to Washington might, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see many defect to the dems. Ever wonder how many RINOs might have actually voted for Obama?

donh525 on October 31, 2009 at 6:13 PM

This isn’t Palin first wienie roast, Allah.

She’s always ahead of the curve, and you’re always just watching from the sidelines with a fake name.

Saltysam on October 31, 2009 at 6:24 PM

AP you are such a cynic, but I’m afraid that this time I soooo agree with you. Sarah gave one back for the team. The problem is they dropped the ball and made her look like a horse’s a$$ for suggesting that this is a game changer. This is just a smaller crap sandwich compared to Pelosi’s monstrously disgusting quadruple bypass that everyone wants to throw out (or is it up).

denniscb on October 31, 2009 at 6:50 PM

I couldn’t help but notice that Boehner’s “game-changing” radio address didn’t even make Drudge.

Though, to be fair, I also noticed that Dede (who can spell that last name?) is described on Huffington as “Candidate targeted by Palin…”

Your parents named you Saltysam? That’s rough.

RINO in Name Only on October 31, 2009 at 7:09 PM

This is a game changer, not a peace offering. Sarah gets probably hundreds of thousands to watch a speech most would have missed if waiting for media coverage. She’s going around the MSM, and taking GOP healthcare proposals with her this time.

cs89 on October 31, 2009 at 7:31 PM

AP, you deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for this article.

faraway on October 31, 2009 at 7:36 PM

Most folks are hearing this for the first time, so, game changer.

“Huh, those’re some good ideas.”

Akzed on October 31, 2009 at 7:48 PM

The “Hoffman Strategy” is not a third-party strategy . . . not exactly.

Think of NY-23 – which did not have a primary – as really being a primary and general election in one. If it were a primary, Hoffman would have beaten the crap out of Scozzafavabean and won as an “R”.

Since the soon-to-be-ex-local-GOP leadership plucked Ms. Really-a-Dem out of the Left to run as an “R” – Hoffman had to sidle in as a “3rd-Party” candidate, and then win it for the R’s.

Either way: the strategy is not a 3rd-Party game, really – It’s retake the GOP for conservatism however we need to.

Party GOP loyalty? These days that just mean loyalty to GOP party leadership. To hell with that! Real conservatives need to get in there, run against Leftist-R incumbants in primaries, and slice by slice re-take the GOP from fools who want to take conservatism OUT of the Republican Party.

mmmmmm mmmmmmm mmmmmm

but it ain’t changing any games.

It doesn’t take much to “change a game” if the game is close or the other side is getting wobbly.

One wonders whether ‘middle ground’ is just another swipe at so called conservatives. Conservatives are the middle ground, the fore ground and the background. Used to be that the GOP was unabashedly conservative, what the McCains of the world now describe as too far right and whose ‘tent’ is too small or some other bit of ephemera. Nonsense. They’ve been brainwashed by this and that bit of PC and media claptrap and GOP strategist blather about the independent vote and have fallen for it. Conservative is what the GOP should be, has been up until recently and need not apologize for.

jeanie on October 31, 2009 at 8:40 PM

We’re headed over the cliff………

………Dems behind the wheel it’s 100 mph!!

………GOP behind the wheel it’s 60 mph!!!

Pick your driver.

The GOP is a lost cause.

What, you mean you sophisticated, worldly multiculturalists on the left can’t spell a good solid Calabrian name like “Scozzafava”?

needtoknow on October 31, 2009 at 10:24 PM

Allah, Allah, Allah, you silly beta male….

The other day while you were so preoccupied with the latest Levi Johnston news or some CNN poll telling us all how bad Sarah sucked, except that it really didn’t, you missed Sarah’s hugs and kisses to the GOP:

East Coast Races Impact All Americans

As I stand here in a high school gymnasium watching freshmen girls’ basketball games, I’m struck by the sight of America’s future right in front of me – these tenacious young women full of energy and intensity. I want them to realize every opportunity this great, free nation can provide.

There are big political races on the East Coast that are coming down to the wire – the results of which will impact policies and political actions that touch all of us in every state. Like other independent Americans, I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Republican political committees, so when I tell you that the Republican Governors Association has my complete support and confidence in its campaign efforts back East, know that I really mean it.

The RGA is helping lead the conservative comeback beginning this year, and its involvement in the East Coast races is significant. I hope you’ll support these efforts, which are vital to the cause for America’s freedom and prosperity:

http://www.rga.org/initiatives/comeback-fund/.

Let’s consider the governor’s race in New Jersey. The state has the highest tax burden in the country and the incumbent Democrat governor has only added to the economic burden. He eliminated property tax rebates for middle class homeowners while the sales tax increased.

Altogether, taxes on the people in the region have increased by billions of dollars. It’s no surprise that New Jersey has the highest unemployment rate in the region! Thankfully, there is an alternative. Residents there will be better off under an administration that understands the benefits that result when workers are allowed to keep more of what they earn.

Watch New Jersey’s economy come alive under new leadership that will put government back on the side of the people! Chris Christie promises this new leadership.

Fortunately, New Jersey’s Democrat governor is being held accountable with the RGA spending $7 million in the New York and Philadelphia media markets telling the truth about a liberal administrative record while highlighting New Jersey’s tax-hiking ways and reminding voters there is an alternative!

The NY and Philly markets are the most expensive in the nation though, so the RGA is requesting help to stay on the air.

Visit http://www.rga.org/initiatives/comeback-fund/.

Then in Virginia, there is a clear difference between Republican Bob McDonnell and his liberal opponent. Republican Bob McDonnell is fighting for cheaper American energy and lower taxes, while his opponent wants to raise taxes and, amazingly, even bragged about having more earmarks than any other state legislator.

Bob McDonnell promises to fight for Virginia’s hard working families, and he opposes some heavy-handed union leadership efforts that could ultimately hurt employers and employees. The RGA has aired $6 million of TV ads exposing the liberal candidate’s record. I encourage you to help fight for our neighbors in the East by visiting:

http://www.rga.org/initiatives/comeback-fund/.

Americans who believe in smaller government and free enterprise have a chance to show Washington that people all across the U.S. don’t want an ever-increasing national debt, more dependency on foreign energy sources, and more wasteful government spending.

If, like me, this is what you want to show Washington, then I hope you’ll support Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell and the RGA, as great efforts are put forth in these East Coast races.

The young student athletes I’m watching right now are counting on us to do the right thing – to fight for what is right for America today and into their future. Electing candidates with common sense and respect for freedom is one way we can fight for what is right.

- Sarah Palin

THAT was the hugs and kisses to the GOP.

Also a very strong message.

As far as the “game changer” what in the world were you expecting, naked dancing girls?

Boehner in his deep monotone voice laid it out in the simplest of terms, and then sends you to the spot to really investigate the plans the GOP have put together.

Do you guys REMEMBER Ross Perot and those freakin’ charts? OMG, it was like watching paint dry, or grass grow. People are stupid. They have the attention span of a gnat.

Boehner got in the highlights and most will go and read for themselves. Could someone else been more “exciting” to watch, well..YEAH, absolutely. And? It was workman like. Serviceable. It got the job done.

Sarah did her part, because she believes in it, and Boehner did his. But like most good things, the viewer/reader has to do THEIR part as well. Can’t get more conservative than that.

gary4205 on November 1, 2009 at 7:51 AM

Or…

Maybe she knew no one would watch it because the GOP is terrible at advertising and she was trying to help them out.

xax on November 1, 2009 at 11:31 AM

And could we pleeeeeeeeeease retire that pic of Sarah winking?

Dave R. on November 1, 2009 at 12:00 PM

With all due respect AP you read too much into this. Not everything is so political, well some things are not anyway.

Agree, the Sarah wink, while cute is tired already.

A “gamechanging” message on a Saturday?

Yeah, right. I knew it wasn’t going to produce as advertised just based on the day of delivery, especially when said day is HALLOWEEN.

Lame.

Athena on November 1, 2009 at 10:48 PM

It’s pretty simple, National Healthcare Legislation is beyond the powers granted to Congress in the Constitution, thus, UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Will John Boehner have the balls to step up to the podium and denounce this as being illegal and unconstitutional? Don’t hold your breath.
The ONLY person, it seems, that has any testicular fortitude in Congress is Michelle Bachmann.

Correct. Only the “right” Republicans, elite enough to sneer at us common folk, then bend over and lube up for the next liberal, statist idea.
