Palin on Scozzafava’s withdrawal: Now we must unite
posted at 7:09 pm on October 31, 2009 by Allahpundit
Totally true, and precisely Gingrich’s point in endorsing Hoffman so quickly after Team Dede threw in the towel this morning. But there are a lot of Scozzafava supporters who’ll read this tomorrow and wonder why Palin wasn’t worried about unity when she dropped the hammer on their preferred candidate — who, by the way, was her party’s nominee — last week.
Which is a long way of saying that while the message is correct, Sarahcuda may not be the optimal messenger here. Remember, according to today’s Siena poll, Scozzafava voters approve of Obama to the tune of 64 percent. They didn’t poll Palin’s favorable rating, but given this bloc’s center-left tendencies, you can imagine how she’d fare among them.
A Time to Unite
I want to personally thank Republican Dede Scozzafava for acting so selflessly today in the NY District 23 race. Now it’s time to cross the finish line with Doug Hoffman so that he can get to work for District 23 and the rest of America.
With Congress poised to overhaul one-sixth of our economy with so-called health care “reform” (which is really a government takeover of health care) and with plans to enact a cap-and-tax bill just as our economy struggles to recover, Doug Hoffman will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.
We need candidates like Doug now more than ever. In these final days of the campaign, it’s vital that Doug continue to receive the enthusiastic support of those who want to bring common sense to Washington. Let’s help make it happen! You can help Doug by visiting his official website today and offering your support: https://www.doughoffmanforcongress.com/donate3.html
Hoffman, smartly, has been beating Owens over the head with Pelosi references in his attack ads. I wonder if Palin’s high-profile entry into this race is going to earn her the same treatment from Owens in any new ads he might be preparing to try to win over Scozzafava voters. Don’t think so? Check out this new over-the-top fundraising e-mail from James Carville on behalf of the DCCC. Exit quotation: “Help us raise $500,000 in response to Sarah Palin’s fundraising for the tea party nut jobs.”

NJ’s gonna be a lot closer, given the machine for Corzine and the vote-splitter Daggett, but winnable nonetheless.

Prepare to be disappointed. That was advice that they gave to us, and they expected us to follow it. It was never intended for them to follow it, were the shoe on the other foot. Much easier for them to sit home and complain about the plebes not knowing their proper place in the grand scheme of things. After all, if they don’t vote for the conservative, they’re not responsible for what he does, and if they don’t vote for the liberal, they’re not responsible if the liberal wins either.
Right, Allah? Nuance is all about pinning the blame on the other guy, right?

Nor should she be “worried” now!
GOP voters are either on the left or the right.
Either Part of the Problem or Part of the Solution.
The big sweep is on! Time to take back the party & country from those who would have US become a part of the 3rd world.

What she means, of course, and is so right about, is: now that we conservatives are on the move, we need to educate people about why we are winning and should keep on winning – and get them on board with us.
She does not mean (I hope) that now we go back to being the “big tent”.

I think we are ok with that. We would rather run a true conservative and lose than a candidate that had her particular credentials. I am sorry, I am having some computer problems tonight. Was one of those links the one explaining how the Dems are asking the courts to tell the clerks not to throw out mail in ballots on signature differences. They are building their case now for collecting votes if it is close. How people cannot wake up after Stuart Smalley made the Senate is beyond me. Oregon a few years back is even a better example.

There were probably some who were going to vote for Scozza-whatsit because of the R, suspicious of a third party challenger.

It’s apparent, from Carville’s letter, he has no clue what the tea party movement is. Ironically, odds are, someone in Carville’s neighborhood supported the tea party movement. He either has a neighbor or his neighbor has a friend, who participated in a protest. Democrats disparaging the tea party movement, do so at their own peril.
I’m sitting here laughing as I think that Carville has just sold another thousand books for Sarah Palin. Chances are, her publisher is going to have to print more copies of her book and, after a week or so on the book tour, those that thought they’d make her look like a fool will be having second thoughts, not necessarily because of Sarah, but because of their viewers. If they don’t show her some respect and treat her fairly, I’m sure the phone lines will burn up from angry people. Many of us were upset with Katie and Charlie, during the campaign, so I don’t believe we’ll sit down on our hands if they do it again.
This time, however, Sarah is going to be much more in control than she was during the campaign. I’m really looking forward to her run around the country.

Indeed. Dems are plentiful here in Arkansas; Huckster’s astroturfers are so fond of beating us over the head with their assertion that Dems are the reason he couldn’t get anything done here. Whatever. The Democrats here are moderate Democrats. Some are even pretty conservative; I’ve voted for a couple. Having lived in the northeast for most of my life, with stints in Chicago and California, let me assure anyone who may be in doubt: The Dems on the coasts are a WHOLE lot different from those in flyover country. I do live in a pretty conservative part of the state, but I will tell you Sarah Palin is incredibly popular here, with Republicans and Democrats alike. They’ll vote for her if she runs.

Oh, there’s more to it than that. The guys over at Hillbuzz are all gay!
They LOVE Sarah Palin. I mean LOVE her. This bunch went cross country campaigning for McCain/Palin last year BECAUSE of Sarah Palin!
So these idiots who claim Sarah Palin only plays to the “right wing zealots” (whatever that is) are in for a seriously rude awakening!
Sarah Palin, once NORMAL SANE PEOPLE actually learn about her and her REAL positions, and life, LOVE her.
You know those 20 percent or so hard core liberals that will actually admit to another human being they are liberal? THAT is the only group of people that Sarah Palin will never win over. The other 80 percent, well, she has a damned good shot at them!
gary4205 on November 1, 2009 at 2:02 AM
Uh, excuse me, but if HA is actually afraid of James Carville (fast carving out the nut job label for himself — he’s not relevant and the more he foams at the mouth to prove he is, the less relevant he becomes), then it’s time to check the med’s level.
I mean, the dog puddle passing for logic here is astounding. I expect tomorrow to see a headline claiming that Sarah Palin should have exhaled instead of inhaled upon waking on a random Tuesday.
Let me see if I can follow this: Palin could have called for unity by simply backing a candidate for office that she didn’t support and with whom she didn’t agree on issues or character. Uh, well, I guess she could have. If unity means agreeing with whatever somebody says. Is that another version of “Go Along to Get Along?”
If so, I totally understand it.
It’s idiotic, but I certainly understand it. Sort of.
By calling for unity and closing ranks for the election, she is doing something WRONG?!
Man, this is a new pretzel in the pretzel bag of logic often offered up here to diss Sarah Palin. Amazing if for no other reason than it’s sheer inventiveness.
Sort of reminds me of another saying: “Damned if she do and damned if she don’t.”
I kind of like somebody getting out front and saying what they think. It’s very difficult for me to find the fault in that.

TheAlamos on November 1, 2009 at 6:31 AM
This is the mistake of reaching out to the independents and women.
Libertarian Conservativism, in my viewpoint, means that WE MUST RECOGNIZE THAT WOMEN OWN THEIR BODIES. We need to respect that.
But WOMEN have to recognize that freedom and right have consequences … responsibilities.
WOMEN SHOULD THINK OF ABORTION AS THE FIRST OPTION WHEN THEY GET PREGNANT.
Women must admit that when they contemplate Abortion … THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, NOT THE BABY, BUT SOMETHING THAT THE BABY IS INNOCENT OF. So, WOMEN …. PLEASE. YOU DON’T WANT TO GET PREGNANT AND GET ABORTION … JUST FOR THE SAKE OF ABORTION. (Exceptions may be health reasons, which is of course a different issue.)
Do libertarian conservatives want the State to promulgate An Abortion Ban? No. I don’t.
Do libertarian conservatives want the State to legislate ABORTION? HELL, NO.
Abortion is the symptom of the disease. IRRESPONSIBILITY OF BOTH MEN AND WOMEN.
So why I’m against Planned Parenthood? It basically PROMOTES AND FUNDS ABORTION. The more women go to Abortion, the better for it and its organizers. They may deny it. But I witnessed it myself.
The ideal is ABORTION-FREE America. A GOVERNMENT THAT SUPPORTS AND FUNDS ABORTION IS A EUGENIST. Look at Europe. The whites chose the liberal comfort of Abortion (study showed that abortion reduced the chance of future pregnancies.)
But Old Europeans have missed that the jihadist Muslims are breeding … breeding … and breeding.

So at least, now, conservatives and those leaning away from Obama’s agenda, have someone they can vote FOR rather than just stay home.

I swear he watches and believes everything msnbc puts on.
Allah’s guy is Romney and Romney’s been MIA on all of these issues. Who knows what the hell Romney believes. Oh that’s right he thinks the GOP should turn into Liberal-lite, that’s right.
I’m sorry but Romney is REALLY misreading the people right now. This country is so fed up with where we’re going, and Romney wants to join the Obama crowd.
Palin consistently comes out and puts her neck on the line and WINS.
Allah comes out saying how messed up she is.
Sarah Palin is going to get one more shot at wowing the moderates; her book comes out, her Oprah visit, and I’m sure she’s going to do well because she has it.
When the country hears her and sees her connection to everyday concerns and people, watch out.
That’s what the left and Allah don’t see.
But he’s gotta put those Palin posts up to get traffic going, you know.

Look, I suspect Doug and McDonnell are going to win this thing. Christie is the one fighting the Zombie vote. Jimmy Hoffa will definitely be voting ACORN on Tuesday.
Were I Christie, I would declare a five alarm fire and call Palin today and pay her way down to NJ for tomorrow. I know it’s short notice, but Chris needs the Republican turnout and Sarah can juice these things.
Christie is said to be having problems in the Republican areas of his state. There’s a ready-made solution for that. He needs to call in the Closer.

The current Republican party is not Palin’s party. That’s why she went rogue. Palin gets it and she’s following the right strategy to force the Republican party on a more libertarian track.

Nuance. Asking people right of center to not support someone who is leftest on economic and governing issues vs. unite behind someone who is rightest on economic and governing issues. Pretty freakin’ obvious when you think about it.

I don’t think of it as forcing. It’s more like she just happens to agree.
There was an interesting article by Rove on this race. Apparently, it was a shrewd move on her part to choose this one to endorse. They are used to Independents running there and the election rules make it easier for voters.
The GOP has gotten the message. When Palin’s endorsement is the key, then there won’t be any more gobbledy-gook about whether or not her resignation hurt her or the other nonsense.
She’s clearly got the power.

Apparently there is a poll out showing Christie ahead and also some reports that the guy in the drug bust WAS part or Corzines campaign, but I can’t verify that. Anyone got links?
dogsoldier on November 1, 2009 at 11:20 AM
Oh, btw here’s a question to ponder. If as the White House says, this election doesn’t mean that much, why oh why is Bozo and his clown posse putting all the effort into helping Corzine?
That seems to be a little bit contradictory, doesn’t it?

Christie Ahead by one. (but like all polls….)
dogsoldier on November 1, 2009 at 11:24 AM
Extra nuance.
This is what she would have done in Congress, which is why she was a horrible choice for the GOP. This was obvious to conservatives, which is why they did not support her. Again, pretty freakin’ obvious when you think about it.

That’s how I see it. I listened to Palin in the election, and I didn’t find her to be horribly right-wing. I thought her comments even on abortion rights were enough center so that I didn’t think she’d be some kind of nutcase on the topic.
I haven’t read anything yet that strikes me as nutty from her.
In fact, the complaints about the base, the teabag movement, all tell me that insider types, such as Romney, really are still suffering over the problems Bush brought on. People really did want a change. *haha Unfortunately, for them? The change wanted was to be done with that type of politician. A lot of Dems are going to end up on that list, too, from more center Democrats, I predict.
CA’s referendum on taxes was a wake-up call. The message was: Do NOT think you’ll solve the problems by nibbling people to death with taxes.

Pay no attention to that man in the corner pulling the strings!

I agree. I never understand why some people seem so eager to support a candidate that most likely is going to be more of an Obama supporter than a supporter of Republican issues. What good does it do to have a R next to their name if they’re just going to mirror the Dems? Why should we bother to elect a tool for the Dems?
