Video: Noted news “organization” blasts White House stimulus numbers
posted at 10:55 am on October 30, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Darn that Fox News! How dare they call the White House’s stimulus numbers “hard to believe”! Their biased reporting in this clip snidely says that their new report on “saved or created” jobs coming out today “won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on,” and they get some expert no one’s ever heard of to call it “useless” on their biased prime-time programming. Why, it’s a violation of the truce declared by Fox, and a …
Huh? What was that? Was that … Katie Couric? When did Katie go to Fox News?
Chip Reid’s final factoid sounds like a satire of government spending, the kind of goofy idea one would make up while shooting the bull with your college-sophomore friends. Man, if the federal government spent $219,000 to study the sex lives of first-year female college students, you’d say, I’d apply for a job as a researcher! Seriously, who came up with this pork item anyway, Hugh Hefner?
The tone of this report on CBS, of all places, indicates that the credibility of this administration has finally begun to collapse. When the Tiffany Network goes on the air to say that a report from Barack Obama’s White House isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on and that the previous incompetence calls into question any numbers announced today, I’d say that the honeymoon may finally be over.
So when does CBS start getting the Fox treatment by Robert Gibbs and Valerie Jarrett? (via Instapundit)

Now that CBS has opened the gate on Bozo’s credibility, you can expect to see the rest open fire on him too.
Bozo will try to plug the injury, but it won’t work. The sharks smell blood in the water.
But why oh why have they turned on their messiah? Can it possibly be that he has told so many whoppers for so long?
Could it be self preservation or that horrid desire to make money? Heh. If Bozo reaches out to spank Katie over this, what will the consequences be?
Yesterday they all saw the Pelosi socialism conference, the fake GDP report, now the fake Jobs report and the fake photo op at Dover.
They know about the parties, the golf, the campaigning and all the other social activities Bozo engaged in, while our soldiers and innocent civilians, even UN personnel are dying by the score.

I sense the White House will begin to “go to the mattresses” mafia style since even its in-house media is slowly turning against it! We’ll see fewer press availabilities and press conferences, Gibbs will become “unavailable for comment,” and the whole “every is against us” meme will be floated!
It is not so much that we have an Obama Administration that is failing, we have an Obama Ego that is being questioned – on the economy, on Afghanistan, and on myriad domestic issues and the Ego can’t handle anything but worship… it’s like MS Windows OS not being able to reboot and an endless CTL-ALT-DEL reset command key cycle from the public, particularly on economic issues!
When even committed leftist journalists like Katie abandon the White House talking points better abandon ship soon…

One has to wonder how the Obama administration’s “new math” will work with the Senate’s cap and trade/global warming hoax bill with future job losses predicted to be in the millions. Un-employment was at 30% in the great depression—you’re only 2/3rds away from your goal, Mr. Obama.
Rovin on October 30, 2009 at 11:17 AM
I do wonder about that. Bill O’Reilly has been almost insufferable lately when gloating over Fox’s ratings and he often cites how his show is neck-and-neck with Katie Couric in viewers.
Has CBS finally figured out that being a propaganda outfit for the Obama Administration is a recipe for ratings disaster? I guess we’ll know that hell has truly frozen over if Palin does an interview with Couric to promote her book and is treated fairly.
Doughboy on October 30, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Just like the pollsters, at some point you have to “correct” your product in order to retain a shred of credibility for the next cycle or ratings period.
This is CBS trying to retain that shred of credibility in the face of obvious and overwhelming proof that the stimulus was, is, and continues to be the single biggest waste of taxpayer dollars in U.S. history.
JoeinTX on October 30, 2009 at 11:23 AM
24% actually using the U-6 method. We are presently over 17% if no one has their finger on the scale. Bear in mind we did not have the entitlement numbers or the population back then.
Just in terms of raw numbers we have more people unemployed and homeless than we did in 1929. Remember, we have a population of 330 million now.
As I keep saying we are way past the point where the number of unemployed begin to effect the supply chain.

TXUS on October 30, 2009 at 11:32 AM
I think reality may be hitting the news organizations on a very personal level. Drudge has a headline that Time’s workforce will be slashed by 6% by Thanksgiving. The NY Times just announced major job cuts. CNN is in 4th place. And CBS’s stock is in the toilet.
At some point, these companies need to realize that profit matters. Congress is not gonna bail them out, even though many Dems would love to. The political support isn’t there. So they can either rediscover their journalistic principles(assuming they ever had any) and start reporting news, or they can continue to carry water for the Dems and wind up in bankruptcy. The real kind, not the GM/Chrysler variety.
Doughboy on October 30, 2009 at 11:32 AM

landlines on October 30, 2009 at 11:32 AM
The White House brought this on themselves by embarrassing CBS, ABC and CNN with their attack of Fox News (nothing in the world could embarrass NBC and its cable counterpart).
Aside from getting Fox more viewers, by going after them the administration was pretty much telling everyone out there that at the very least, they believed they had the other networks in their pocket, and the failed effort last week to get the other networks to take their side in banning Fox from the White House reporters pool coverage was the last straw.
The other networks may have whored themselves out to Obama for the past two years, but that didn’t mean they weren’t in denial about doing that, and they certainly didn’t what the White House pointing that out. The attacks on Fox forced them to either admit that they’re just shills for Barack or actually go out and do at least something to show they’re not biased. Odds are they’ll just do 1-2 stories or interviews like Campbell Brown vs. Valerie Jarrett on Wednesday in order to show they’re tough on Obama, and then go back to their normal ways by mid-November.

It’s not that the honeymoon’s over; the other networks are putting their fingers to the wind. Although there’s a hurricane blowing from the south, they’ve been trying to convince themselves (and the wind) that it’s really coming from the north.
When you have one network whose 3am show has higher ratings than a rival’s 8pm slot, said failing network eventually will reevaluate itself and its standings. And, just like all other major corporations–particularly in Hollywood or in any media business–it’s rare to see one take a risk and stray from the flock. So, risk big, win big? That’s what Big Media is asking itself now. Better yet, slowly change; all the better, so that down the road, as they’re continued to be questioned about objectivity, and forced to veer back to the center, such pieces like this can be brought up.
CBS (or anyone else from Big Media) isn’t about to do a 180; it’ll be a slow series of 0.5-degree turns. This is merely the beginning of a long, long winding and uphill road…
CatsGodot on October 30, 2009 at 11:42 AM

Agreed. At the same time, I expect Fox to be on “good behavior.” This would be part of the syndrome of the accused — the overcompensating need to prove you aren’t what you are accused of being — which the White House understands and knows how to exploit.

I think we should back up a step further. If a “job” is just some busy work created from a temporary infusion of borrowed funds for political influence, why are we even counting this as a job?
A real JOB is something that is ongoing, funded by ongoing revenues. It is silly to even count the so called shovel ready projects as jobs because they all have a start and end date to the projects. And what makes those “jobs” even sillier to count as JOBS, is the fact that probably 90% of the unemployed don’t make their living working with their hands. The whole stimulus was stupid and poorly conceived.
Why are we even allowing the administration to begin to count jobs from this “stimulus” as a credible starting point? Unless they measure the number of PRIVATE SECTOR full time permanent jobs that have been “created” by this fiasco, all reports are meaningless.
The “stimulus” funding is short term and the government does not create jobs, it takes money out of the economy.
