Sue Lowden: Hot Air exclusive interview

posted at 11:36 am on October 30, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Earlier this morning, I had an exclusive interview with Sue Lowden, a Republican legislator from Nevada who wants a chance to run against Harry Reid in the 2010 midterms. Sue has an impressive resume, having been an owner of a small business, a political activist, and an impressive officeholder. She wants to bring Nevada back to its independent-conservative roots, which she says Harry Reid has long forgotten in his years in the Senate. Instead of going on the attack, though, Sue explains that she wants to focus on her political accomplishments and philosophy to allow Nevadans to become acquainted with her — as they increasingly grow disenchanted with Reid:

Sue makes an impressive case, although she does have to win a Republican primary first, against Danny Tarkanian, among others. As long as the Republicans remain focused on Reid, we should see a good candidate emerge from that process made stronger by the initial challenge. Be sure to check Sue’s website over the next couple of weeks while she expands her policy views and gets girded for the fight.

By the way, be sure to get all the way through to the end of the interview to hear why she may be uniquely qualified to knock out the Senate Majority Leader.

Go to Hell Sue. You know what you did at the state convention last year, and you know the most active wing of the GOP will be working against you as a result of it. You’re going down.

Paulbots tried to take over the GOP process in NV, state officials tried to regain control of the process (may have been heavy-handed), and it was a mess.

Romney won the NV caucus.

Oh, and I was living in Reno at the time of the caucus. It was the first year they did the “caucus” thing, and let’s just say it was less than organized (at least in my precinct).

I’m betting Palin sits on the sidelines for this one, and supports the GOP primary winner. This is a race Lowden can win, and she isn’t a Dede S. from what I’ve seen.

IMO, you won’t see Palin taking on the former state GOP chairwoman without a darn good reason.

Romney might just jump in, though. He pushed hard in NV in 2008, and campaigned with Lowden while she was serving as GOP chair.

My inner cynic compels me to add “especially if she’s ahead,” Romney will endorse her.

Prevailing wisdom is that Reid is going down next year, which will make two Dem Majority Leaders that have lost their seats in recent memory. At least when Republicans lose the Senate, the Majority Leader doesn’t lose the seat, at least I can’t recall any.

There’s got to be a lesson in there somewhere.

JamesLee on October 30, 2009 at 12:11 PM

“Makes it a little harder to run if you once supported your opponent.” RobD

Actually, it’s really easy, you just file with the Sec. of State.

Harry Reid was a completely different animal in the 1980′s. Lots of life-long Nevadan’s, from both parties, supported Reid when he was independent and didn’t have a role in the party leadership.

Things have changed.

People like Bob Cashell haven’t gotten the message, Sue Lowden obviously has.

hawkman on October 30, 2009 at 12:15 PM

Ed, will there be an interview with Tarkanian? Lowden has virtually destroyed the GOP out here. Even this year, Dems are out-enrolling Repubs.
http://www.tark2010.org

I’m sure this won’t impress Allahpundit, but the Heaths (Sarah Palin’s Dad, Mom and Brother) did a recent weekend tour around Nevada with Danny.

Plus, Lowden already put her foot in it…denying that police discovered a car bomb on the Reid family car, back when Dingy Harry was on the State Gaming Commission: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/oct/28/reid-lowden-spar-over-car-bomb-story-gibbons-joins/

TXUS on October 30, 2009 at 12:35 PM

I no longer live in NV, but I think the primary is Lowden’s to lose. She has the connections with her state GOP history, and has polls showing she can beat Reid.

Now whether she can really knock off the sitting Majority Leader remains to be seen. His “vaporize” rhetoric reminds me of all the high-volume declarative statements he has made before. Usually just before he folds.

cs89 on October 30, 2009 at 12:36 PM

Harry Reid grew up in Searchlight, NV. I believe that Rush came up with that name because that tiny little community is rather “dingy”. Most Nevadan’s call him “Pinky” a nickname he’s had since his early school days. If it were up to me, I think a more apt nickname is “Pinko”.

Conservalicious on October 30, 2009 at 12:37 PM

Great, all the GOP needs is a highly divisive primary and Paultards mucking everything up. Reid needs to go down, and if Lowden is determined to be the better choice to do that-and she probably is-then everyone else needs to get behind her. Its all about Daschle-ing Reid.

On a site that has helped submarine the GOP candidate in NY-23, that is particularly rich.

However, you are right… there are more important things at stake HERE. Not in the national GOP, but in NV. Like making sure that NV continues to have a GOP governor (hopefully Mike Montandon). Like making sure that Joe Heck kicks the crap out of Dina Titus in CD-3. Like delivering the state senate back to the GOP. A state senate that, BTW, was in GOP when Sue Lowden took over as GOP chair. A state senate that, through her enlightened leadership, is now in the hands of Steven Freakin’ Horsford.

Please don’t talk to me about larger issues HERE. I’ve witnessed the disaster that has been visited upon the NVGOP through Sue Lowden’s “leadership”, up close. With GOP leadership like that, who the hell needs Democrats?

I remember when I was in West Texas they always used to say about the surly Yankee girls, “She could be so kewt of she just trah a little bit.” Meaning, put on a little make-up, use a little hair-spray, stop scowling, etc. I’ve never been to an Alabama campus, but I hear that going to Auburn is like waking up in the Land of the Beautiful Women. They looked plenty good in Lubbock, where I was.

This, ladies and gentlemen, this string of “comments”, is why conservatives and Republicans dont’ win. Not voting for Tarkanian because of his father? WIth out knowing a freaking thing about him? And what’s with the “Paultards” and “Bushtards” crap? Do people actually WANT us to re-elect Reid the scumbag? Because, chances are, that’s what’s going to happen if this crap continues…

Welcome to politics!

Most people want nothing to do with the Ronulans, because well, they are bat$hit crazy! It starts with the head Ronulan himself, and moves down.

Most people love George Bush, but let’s face it, he’s no Conservative. He kept his veto pen locked up tight while the Rockefeller wing of the party spent and acted like drunken democrats. He paved the way for the disastrous lunatic we have in office now!

What you are seeing is just massive frustration at the whole process and a search for some REAL human beings that still have a shred of decency and integrity.

This is going to be a nasty election cycle. It will pit brother against brother, friend against friend. But you know what, it’s gotta happen!

Our entire political process as well as our entire government, from top to bottom is FUBAR. It’s just that simple.

We need people who are willing to tear it all down and start over. But at the same time, these people need to know what they are doing, and be willing to follow the Constitution to the letter.

This is nothing less than a fight for the very existence of our nation. It’s literally life or death for the Republic. We either get control and save it, or it dies forever, a failed experiment ruined by the ruling class. (which shouldn’t exist in the first place)

Look for many passionate debates. It’s GOOD for the process. Ideas that have no passion behind them are well, useless.

I don’t have a fight in NV, other than knowing that Dingy Harry has to go! Sue Lowden sounds reasonable. Seems like she knows what she is about. Is she Teh Won? I don’t know.

Again, the Heaths are campaigning for Tarkanian, so there is some “star power” behind him, but that certainly doesn’t mean Sarah will support him, or anyone there. In case you haven’t noticed, she’s a tad bit independent, even from her dad!

I hate fighting all of the time, but on the other hand, it’s kind of awesome that we are all fired up. The enemy isn’t all that excited. Excitement, passion, is what wins.

Conservatives say, “All your hotties belong to us.”

smellthecoffee on October 30, 2009 at 3:29 PM

Amen!

It’s attitude. Conservative women are happy, fulfilled. I suspect a bit of spirituality helps as well.

“Progressives” worship man, or the snowy egret, or something, so no grounding. Plus, they are just always angry. They can be a looker, but as soon as they open their mouth, that program is over…

gary4205 on October 30, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Geez… what happens in Nevada…is simply downright confusing to me.

redwhiteblue on October 30, 2009 at 4:39 PM

I just dropped in to talk about how hot she is… but I see that’s been covered.

LOL..you’re right, and that hippie look wasn’t appealing in 1969, let alone today.

Jeff from WI on October 30, 2009 at 7:18 PM

Lowden was the state party chairman. She’s one of them.

The Palin’s are campaigning for Tarkanian. Until the 9/12′s or the TEA party come out for Sue, “I’ll stick with Sarah”.

FREEDOM!

speaking on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss campaign strategy.

Troll alert. Dhimmicraps always speak on condition of anonymity. They never want to be held accountable for their words. Really nice of you to provide a link to a STORY. You’re some kind of troll aren’t you?

Blacksmith8 on October 30, 2009 at 7:57 PM

Lowden used to be a Reid supporter.
RobD on October 30, 2009 at 12:01 PM

Oh my the plot thickens. How does a republican of ANY stripe EVER support a dhimmicrap? Is she from the McShamenesty wing?

Blacksmith8 on October 30, 2009 at 8:00 PM

Romney … campaigned with Lowden while she was serving as GOP chair.

My inner cynic compels me to add “especially if she’s ahead,” Romney will endorse her.

cs89 on October 30, 2009 at 12:07 PM

So what you’re saying is Romneycare supports Lowden. Newsflash, she’s not gonna make it.
