Video: Journalism’s stars of tomorrow drop phat beats on Fox News

posted at 8:18 pm on October 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

In case you ever wondered what an ethics class at Columbia Journalism School was like, wonder no longer. The clip’s been making the rounds, earning special contempt from Greg Gutfeld and Reason Online, but while I’m reluctant to challenge my hipper elders, I confess I feel more sympathy than outrage. Imagine spending tens of thousands of dollars a year on tuition aimed at a career in a dying industry (during a horrible recession, no less) that’s more and more reviled by the public with each passing day. Congratulations to this kid for finding a reason to get out of bed in the morning, let alone construct timeless rhymes like, um, “parity” and “Hannity.” Now go out there and show Roger Ailes who’s boss, tiger. Oh, and try to remember that bit about retracting when you err. For some reason, that one seems to be forgotten after graduation.

Blowback

Maroons on parade, and actually proud of being complete tools.

What in the hell?

tetriskid on October 28, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Ick. I’m embarrassed for them, couldn’t watch the whole thing. Honestly these kids seem more like high-school students than college age.

4shoes on October 28, 2009 at 8:22 PM

With only a few exceptions, white people shouldn’t rap.

These people are not exceptions.

notropis on October 28, 2009 at 8:23 PM

Allah: I concur. Momas don’t let your babies grow up to be Columbia-tuition-sucking-Fox-hating-J-School-tone-deaf-wanna-be-rappers.

Wait, wait, wait. A Journalist’s Oath? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH.

Oaths are taken by good men and women of integrity and courage that bound them to an ideal higher than themselves.

Politicians and Wise Latina Women excluded, obviously.

Blarg the Destroyer on October 28, 2009 at 8:26 PM

I wonder how many of these little trainee journalist retards will end up working for News Corp at some stage in their insignificant careers? especially when you consider that all of the suitably progressive media organisations that these future Democrat party propagandists would like to work for are all going out of business and laying off staff left right and center.

Hellrider on October 28, 2009 at 8:27 PM

Now go out there and show Roger Ailes who’s boss, tiger.

Heh.

Oops. For a minute there, I read that as “little trannie journalist retards.”

Thought you had an inside scoop on some of the participants….

notropis on October 28, 2009 at 8:29 PM

Now you know why you read and see what you do in the mainstream media. These are the kind of kids behind the scenes. Each one coming from moneyed parents to boot. That kind of tuition is only for the privileged liberal class.

Ugh. Columbia’s J-school, or NYU’s school of the arts? I really can’t decide who has more faux-hipster douches.

They seem really intelligent and having a grasp of the real world.
I bet they must be liberals and progressives…the kinda of guys you want at your side in a fight.

here’s an update on the ongoing “saga” at my son’s High School. A letter was sent to the principal regarding the constant airing of MSNBC during classroom hours, which is disruptive to the students. This is not a political science class. The principal had a talk with the teacher and now the television is turned off during class hours.

Yesterday, the students were informed that anytime one makes an error it should be referred to as a “Bushism”. Several students asked this tool/teacher what a Bush-um was, because they had never heard of such a term. The “teacher” simply replied, “Anything you say or do that is wrong is considered a Bushism”.

Since the principal advised me via email that further issues regarding this teacher be directed to her personally vs. through his office, my next step is the County School Board.

I will have this tool removed by the end of the school year, if not by the end of this semester.

Key West Reader on October 28, 2009 at 8:35 PM

And you should really think of running for school board, yourself. That’s the only hope we have of fixing our schools.

What? No references to “corporate water” or consensus?

The saddest part about this clip? The Columbia Journalism School is a postgraduate institution.

clorensen on October 28, 2009 at 8:42 PM

He does, and he’s not alone. 12 Parents have noticed that their honor students and advanced honor students are earning “C” grades from Miss Honohan. Trust me, I’m not alone in this and thought carefully about how to address the situation.

Side note: A heck of a lot of HS kids are NOT for Obama. They see their parents losing jobs and now even the kids can’t get jobs at the mall or at Mc Donalds or Burger King. They want to earn money to save and buy cars and they can’t. Hopenchange fevah is breaking amongst the young.

I’m disappointed. I thought the kid was going to really go off on FNC, but he only dropped one line, while also mentioning Blair and some other cat I don’t recall.

Are they “progressives” likely to turn out more of the same slanted journalism w/out even knowing it? Yeah, if they can get jobs.

In closing: Meh

I kinda liked it…

… Let the kids have fun, for Pete’s sake. Anyone who has been indoctrinated by the Liberal Marxist/Socialist Fascist/Communist who run our education system and still has a sense of humor is OK by me.

Actually journalism is not dying as bad as one would think as they are just moving to the internet. Readership of the NYT is still high but people just don’t buy the actual hard copy like they use to. On line advertising fees are lower thus cuts have been made.

This type of BS happens all the time in undergrad.

At my undergrad, I had an environmental policy class on energy policy in the U.S. It was full of a lot of “Wind Energy” pimpage, and our midterm project was to do a presentation on a specific domestic energy source, but to do it as “a lobbyist” for that energy sector.

A lot of the kids (libs) chose wind, solar, geothermal — crap like that. I chose nuclear.

Their presentations? Abysmal Wikipedia-style powerpoint “read every slide” crap. What did I do? I gave the professor what he wanted: I spoke like a “Republican.”

“Nuclear energy is clean, green, and safe! Oh, Chernobyl? That’s 1980′s Russian technology. Would you pop your PlayStation 2 disc into an original Nintendo? Nah! We have the best engineers on this planet, and American ingenuity will ensure this high-output fuel source can energize this nation!”

Needless to say, I got an A+, and was told in my feedback I was the only one who followed the project as assigned.

That’s all undergrad is: politicking by pleasing the Prof. And they always do sh*t projects like this “rap” above. College is an absolute joke.

This is boilerplate lefty, Alinsky tactics. Dan Rather, Jayson Blair, the Jenin “massacre”, Reuters – there are too many deliberate leftist journalism frauds to list but if there’s one reporting mistake of any kind from the right the liberals go into supernova mode.

As a tactic, the left and liberals never accept responsibility for anything. In their world, the only reason for ethics or standards of any kind is to club their opponents over the head with them.

doncow on October 29, 2009 at 12:12 AM

Fortunately I had one of the best journalism professors in the history of modern media, Irving Fang at the University of Minnesota. He never would have tolerated this type of b.s. and not because of any party affiliation but because he truly believed that the media’s role in society as the 4th Estate was to perform with objectivity, honesty and integrity the necessary checks and balances to give voice to the voiceless and hold the powerful accountable. Unfortunately, these students are being trained as tools to spew liberal propaganda in the vein of Michael Moore rather than real news and information.
