Assuming, that is, that he can keep the rest of the Democrats on board.

With snowe and lieberrman not on board this will give cover for Lincoln, Nelson etc to not vote for it.
My guess this is just Reid doing some CYA, he offers up the public option knowing it will not pass and then allowing the progressives to be faced with taking it off the table of having nothing.

Is it just me, or is that Olympia Snowe sexy? I mean really, I bet she was smokin when she was college age. . . not that she\’s old now, just older.

I suspect Joe was driven by his mis-treatment he received at the hands of the “throw him under the bus” party. They seriously miscalculated that liberal Connecticut would love to dump him, but his hand wringing had endured him enough with all camps here, and they loathed the rotten politics of the party transparently hitting on one of their own. Having the enormously despised Lowell Weicker (suckered Ct into its first income tax) come out against him, guaranteed his win.

Joe may be honest about the reasonn for his vote -no one but he really knows. Like a high fly that the wind blows over the fence and wins one for the home team, I’ll stand and cheer his home run – this time.

Yeah, because that worked so well for Specter, didn’t it?

When the Democrat Senators voted not to give Specter the seniority Reid promised him to get him to switch, they guaranteed that the Maine twins wouldn’t switch.

All that Snowe and Collins have to do is to look at the bag of goodies promised to Arlen Specter, which magically turned out to be a bag of noxious gas once he made actually made the jump. If they think that the Dems are good on their promises, then they’re more delusional than I thought, and good riddance to them. Go ahead and jump, ladies. Just remember what the ultimate ‘end’ was for Thelma and Louise! Dead is dead, and so goes it for career politicians who try to play both sides of the isle.

And Harry Reid — as many have known all along — is not that leader.

That’s traditionally known as the “memorable phrase”, ‘use it or lose it.’

Lieberman must be bribed, not punished — as must Snowe and Collins and anyone else who can provide that 60th vote.
This is, after all, the only way that Dems know how to get anything done. Pay off (or crush) anyone who stands in your way.
