Obama to troops: “I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way”

A noble and altogether proper sentiment, made somewhat less so by (a) reports of how much golf he’s been playing and (b) the inconvenient truth that there are troops in the field being endangered by the lack of reinforcements. I can only assume he’s defining “rush” here as “any speed faster than the speed I feel like going.” If not, then the obvious question — asked a thousand times but still unanswered as far as I know — is why this strategic reassessment wasn’t undertaken when he decided to replace McKiernan with McChrystal earlier this year. Especially since Bush’s own assessment last year provided “helpful” information, per Gibbs’s own admission.

According to ABC, it sounds like the new yardstick for “rush” is anytime before mid-November:

Sources tell ABC News that as of now President Obama will likely announce his decision about a new strategy in Afghanistan at some point between the Afghan run-off election, November 7, and the president’s departure for Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, November 11.

There is a chance the announcement may be delayed until the president’s return from the Asia trip on Friday, November 20, but as of now the plan is to have the announcement in that window.

Sources emphasize that no decision has yet been made, but as of now it looks as though the president is leaning towards sending more troops to Afghanistan, though not as many as Gen. Stanley McChrystal requested, 40,000.

Be sure to read this Danger Room piece on today’s helicopter nightmare in Afghanistan after you watch the clip. Boots on the ground aren’t the only thing we need more of.

This came via an e-mail today. As our troops experience a deadly month in Afghanistan and their commander is more interested in golf outings and fundraisings than giving them the resources, I felt I needed to post this prayer:

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.

Veterans Day is just a couple weeks off. I would challenge all the HA readers do something to show appreciation of those currently serving. Their Commander-in-Chief has abandoned them. Let’s show that he doesn’t reflect the views of the American people.

What Obama doesn’t get is that indecision is a decision. His delay is leading directly to American and Afghan deaths in the field. Each day’s delay pushes the possiblity of victory further over the horizon.

Obama says important decisions can’t be rushed. Has he ever driven a car? Try spending an hour on the decision to hit the breaks. Delay makes simple decisions hard, and needlessly endangers us.

The President criticizes a lot of people. Doctors, bank presidents, auto execs, President Bush. All of them share a trait. They’ve made hard decisions. Obama has no right to criticize, he can’t even reach the level of being accountable for failure. He can’t even act.

Why rush these things?
Why did America rush to war after Pearl Harbor?
Why did Hitler rush his armor through the Ardennes?
Why did the British rush that Dunkirk rescue?
Why did Patton rush to the Siegfried line?
Why did MacArthur rush those Inchon landings?
WHY RUSH EVERYTHING???

Newsflash Obama. They are already in harms way and you are keeping them in that state

Funny how people forgot all that was revealed during the last months of last year election campaign.

Obama was raised as a muslim and later coached into a communist.

I’m sure that either he enjoys every American soldier death in Afghanistan, or he does not give a dime.

You guys have a problem as a nation being naive in many circumstances. What a shame.
