Nielsen: Fox News ratings up almost 10% since WH declared war
posted at 9:53 pm on October 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
It’s a nine-percent bump in the two weeks since Anita Dunn’s whine heard ’round the world — in terms of overall audience. Among the coveted 25-54 demographic? A 14-percent bump. Good work, Barry. People keep telling me that this PR offensive by the White House benefits both sides but I don’t see how that’s true. If the goal is to contain Fox by framing the stories it breaks — Van Jones, ACORN, etc — as somehow illegitimate, then every tenth of a point that Fox’s ratings go up undermines that goal. There will come a point where other news nets will follow Fox’s lead simply for business reasons, ideology or no ideology; follow the link, eyeball the list of top 20 news shows, and ask yourself how far we are from that point, really. To put it in perspective: “Red Eye,” at 3 a.m., is beating Campbell Brown at 8 p.m. on CNN in the demo. (Worse, perhaps: Anderson Cooper is getting beat by … re-runs of Nancy Grace.) CNN’s made a noble attempt at semi-objective coverage in primetime while FNC and MSNBC resort to bombthrowers, but this experiment must be near its end. I wonder what they’ll end up putting in the 8 p.m. slot. Some sort of updated version of “Crossfire,” perhaps, with a new, younger, edgier cast? Andrea Tantaros versus Meghan McCain on a nightly basis? I’d watch.
Here’s a quote to ponder. Remember, when they say “last,” they mean out of four networks — CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and Headline News. Quote: “The only CNN show from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. that did not finish last was Larry King, which was third, ahead of the new Joy Behar show on HLN.” Exit question one: How long before CNN’s getting beat by Joy Behar? Exit question two: Glenn Beck is number two in cable news — at 5 p.m. How long before Ailes moves him to primetime?

All the conservative talk all-stars are taken by Fox… except one. Who do you think I’m talking about? Ratings gold if CNN/MSNBC/HLN can pull it off, or at least a demonstration of their business sense even if the attempt falls through.

Glenn Beck made the fine point that this is all just a sideshow to distract us from them passing health care. Either that or they’re just stupid.

Probably quite a while. Whoever he moves to 5PM is going to have lower ratings, probably lower than the increased ratings for Beck at 7 or 8. Why not keep your dominant hold on that slot while still powering away with O’Reilly, douchebag though he is?

Uh, you don’t seem to get it. Obama doesn’t care about Fox’s ratings. They picked this fight so they can hid the fact that they declared the H1N1 a national emergency (even though it really isn’t an emergency). An old magician’s trick.

No, sweetie. If they were “mainstream”,a.k.a.,”State-Run”, they would be slobbering over Obama like the rest of them.
kingsjester on October 26, 2009 at 10:22 PM
Fox has bombthrowers on primetime? You must be watching a different channel. Hannity is rough on The Precedent, but he has more liberals on than anyone. And O’Reilly throws daisies and kisses at The Precedent.
I know that Beck gets primetime numbers, but he’s not on during primetime. And he is only throwing facts that feel like bombs.
I have yet to hear of any factual errors Fox is making – except for O’Reilly and Shep Smith who like to lie in favor of The Precedent.
progressoverpeace on October 26, 2009 at 10:23 PM
Great job, Barry, you really know how to work that magic of yours. FOX is drawing in more viewers and your MSM ho’s are getting their butts kicked while they try and cover for you.

Keep Beck where he is. At the pre-evening slot, he can drive the news cycle with his thought-provoking and research. He preps the opinion battlefield where the other commentators can follow-up. Don’t break up the evening news cycle so that viewers have to wait until the next day to see if Beck’s work has traction. Keep news momentum all evening.
Don’t screw up a good formula. What FOXNews has… works.
AnonymousDrivel on October 26, 2009 at 10:26 PM

Thanks for helping FoxNEWS get the word out, Barry.
Now’s the time for Sheppard Smith to jump at a prime time spot on CNN. It won’t help CNN, but they don’t know that. And it will open up two FOX spots at 4 and 7.
ROCnPhilly on October 26, 2009 at 10:29 PM
Give Greta the heave-ho, and put Beck on at 10PM EST, 7PM in the West (maybe Greta can take the 5PM slot.) And Beck will exceed 5 million nightly. Beck will be a American cultural phenomenon, and maybe for a while too, if he can somehow manage to slow down just a bit and not burn himself out.

Personally I’d move Shep out of there. His show is boring. He basically rehashes all the stuff from the morning shows.

Those idiots have to be taking a beating. With ratings like that, you don’t command top dollar for ads. Matter of fact, the ad buyers come to you and TELL YOU to drop your price. How long are they willing to accept the loss of income? Or are they counting on Barry to somehow BAIL THEM OUT?
GarandFan on October 26, 2009 at 10:41 PM
This makes the most sense.
Beck is great, love that he’s exposing all the fraud, corruption etc., but I will not follow the 3rd party road to defeat. Hannity will never go down that road. Both shows are not White House approved. :)

Glenn has gotten some real scalps, but the fact is that every conservative the White House attacked has beaten The Precedent silly, starting with Rush taking the fool apart in the beginning. The White House has gotten manhandled by Rush, Cheney, Palin, Beck, town hallers, tea partiers, … but The Precedent just keeps doing the same thing. It’s typical of those mindless bots who learn one or two tactics and do them forever.
This administration is a con gone bust in front of the public and unable to stop. This will not end well. Not one bit.

I have a feeling Beck will be where he is for a long time. He likes doing a live show, and 5pm Eastern is about the latest he is interested in, with his radio schedule and multiple other endeavors. He already complains about not getting home early enough every night to even have dinner with his kids.
Allah thinking MegaCain is even 1/16th of an Andrea Tantaros shows his brain-rot. And I don’t mean weight-wise. Obviously. TF4PT. Too Fat for Prime Time.
rinohumper on October 26, 2009 at 10:47 PM
looks like the Chicago thugs went to the mattresses with the wrong gang!
I read a while back that Greta hasnt had her contract renewed. Since Becks number dwarf Hannity’s maybe Beck will take 9pm and Hannity 10pm.
I also read that Beck wont go to prime time as he wants to be with his family.
