NYT: Obama whined about Fox News at off-the-record briefing with lefty pundits
posted at 9:43 pm on October 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Speaking privately at the White House on Monday with a group of columnists and commentators, including Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC and Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich and Bob Herbert of The New York Times, President Obama himself gave vent to sentiments about the network, according to people briefed on the conversation…
Mr. Clemente suggested that the fight with Fox was part of a larger White House strategy to marginalize critics. He cited a report in Politico about a strategy session in August at which officials discussed plans to move more aggressively against opponents.
White House officials acknowledged that Fox News did come up at that meeting, although not, they said, as a central topic. A number of issues had been added to the White House’s list of grievances by then, including the network’s heavy coverage of some of the more heavily anti-administration commentary at town-hall-style meetings on health care and Mr. Beck’s remark that Mr. Obama “has a deep-seated hatred for white people.”
Dude, Glenn Beck’s own fans don’t obsess about him this much. How do we put The One’s mind at ease here? Taxpayer-funded psychotherapy? A week off at Camp David? A security blanket, perhaps emblazoned with the “O” logo that he loves so much? I’m not being altruistic; we’ve reached the point where, purely out of self-interest, we may need to start worrying about this guy being on the red line with Medvedev, chatting about nukes, and letting his mind wander to what Sean Hannity said about him that night. What can we do to help this poor afflicted individual get the help he needs?
Update: Remember, though, he’s not losing sleep over it.

He held the murderer and Senate slime Ted Kennedy in high esteem, which is worse. If the point is about crr6 liking slimeballs and defending repulsive criminals, for petty, political reasons, then that is a proven fact.
progressoverpeace on October 23, 2009 at 12:43 AM
He’s exhibiting the kind of behavior of a man who:
1) Did not have a father.
2) Had everything in life easy, or a silver spoon. Punahoe High in Hawaii.
3) Did not ever have to do anything to get ahead. Emil’s mentoring in Illinois. Affirmative action? No transcripts? Ayers writing book?
4) Overbearing wife.
5) Manipulated by others including wife, Axe., Rahm, Soros, Jarrett, the list goes on and on.
6) Never had to be in an executive or leadership position before.
7) Reactive all the time or defensive.
I just finished Freddoso’s book on Obama and I’m reading the boss’s book on his first year. It really is falling into place now.
Am I the only one here at HotAir that actually feels sorry for him? (I still want him to fail policy-wise just like Rush said)
Sapwolf on October 23, 2009 at 12:43 AM
Thanks for that. It’s good to see someone here cares for the truth.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 12:44 AM
I came back and did some checking, and found I am mistaken.
I apologize, because I could find no evidence to back my original assertion about you supporting Polanski.
Your posts here also tell me I was wrong. I apologize.
But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to battle you in the future if we disagree.
Again, I was sorely wrong and mistaken, and I apologize to you.
Liam on October 23, 2009 at 12:45 AM
I hope so. He’s far too dangerous. And he’s too arrogant to merit any sympathy, at all. If he had a brain, then the arrogance would be okay, but he’s an arrogant imbecile, with a really nasty streak. Really nasty.
progressoverpeace on October 23, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Buzz off, slug. The fact that you equate Ted Kennedy with a disgusting child-rapist like Polanski says more about your own moral bankruptcy than anything else.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Right … murderers are decent sorts … so long as they vote the right way. You, you’re a real moral compass. And the fact that Teddy loved to hear new Chappaquiddick jokes …. great guy. He could find the silver lining in anything …
You libs are really something.
progressoverpeace on October 23, 2009 at 12:52 AM
Kudos for you for having the stones to apologize. Not many here would, and frankly I don’t expect ddrint to follow suit.
I accept your apology.
But in the future please don’t attribute positions to me unless I have said them myself. I think people have a tendency here to get whipped up with “troll” hatred and they attribute every bad position they can think of to me, irrespective of whether I’ve said it or not. Needless to say, it’s irritating. It’s especially irritating when the charge is something as serious as supporting a convicted child rapist.
Of course I would never expect this to preclude you from arguing with me in the future. Have a good night.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 12:53 AM
I didn’t slither away. The “bone in the nose” thing was a Wikiquote as well as Snopes. You didn’t source it. As for the slavery and James Earl Ray quotes, those were repeated by Dave Rywall, not you, on further review. Apologies, although I don’t think you leapt to Rush’s defense against those fabricated quotes. I didn’t look through all the Limbaugh/Rams threads though.
ddrintn on October 23, 2009 at 12:54 AM
Thank you for accepting my apology, and please know for sure I mean it. I was wrong, dead to rights. You’re generous, and I’m grateful.
But I have to ask, for sake of polite conversation, why do you find such problem with conservatives? We’re the same as you, we have loves and adore those who love us back. How can you be liberal?
Liam on October 23, 2009 at 12:57 AM
^ And I never said anything about your comments regarding Polanski. I couldn’t care less, although your celebration of Kennedy is another one of those funny funny things. Ummm…dissonant.
ddrintn on October 23, 2009 at 12:57 AM
On the moral scale, Kennedy’s no different. As far as I know, Polanski wasn’t responsible for a death, either.
ddrintn on October 23, 2009 at 12:59 AM
I never did repeat those quotes, not in any of the threads. Again, I say the same point I made to Liam. Don’t attribute things to me unless I actually said them. It’s not much to ask.
Your apology, although tepid, is appreciated.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 1:00 AM
Sarah Palin would agree.
ddrintn on October 23, 2009 at 1:01 AM
That’s your opinion, but just know that it’s wildly out of step with mainstream America.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 1:01 AM
Dude. Just stop.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 1:02 AM
I wish the Whitehouse would tell us what they think Beck has said that is untrue. They just kill the messenger and do nothing about the stuff.
They just don’t like the mirror. When you see what they are doing from Fox’s perspective (which I share) it is dang ominous! An adult personality would try to learn from their critics. Not silence the media.
petunia on October 23, 2009 at 1:05 AM
Okay, there.
Yeah. Mainstream America loves that sort of sick, twisted humor. Sure …
progressoverpeace on October 23, 2009 at 1:05 AM
I have to agree here. Although Ted Kennedy was a firebrand basically, his son’s quote about how “Republicans want what’s best for America too” was heartening.
NathanG on October 23, 2009 at 1:06 AM
Send in the Chia Obama before it is too late.
dthorny on October 23, 2009 at 1:07 AM
I actually don’t. I have many conservative friends, and some of the people I respect the most are conservatives.
What I do have a disdain for is the particular strain of “conservatives” often found here. The “progressoverpeace” type. Hysterical. Reactionary. Manichean. They represent everything that’s wrong with American politics.
Ironically, I think sometimes I’m guilty of the same charge I’ve levied against you. Sometimes I attribute the hysteria of a number of posters here (progressoverpeace, highopes, and ddrintn to a certain degree), to every poster here, irrespective of the particular posters personal views. That’s not right.
If it’s any comfort, I have a near identical disdain for the hysterics that often populate DU and Daily Kos. I’ve railed against their cries of “fascism” against Bush, just as I’ve railed against the cries of “fascism” against Obama here.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 1:09 AM
Captain Queeg?
Bulldogger on October 23, 2009 at 1:13 AM
Agree here again. I’m appalled by the Obama Administration’s behavior with the Fox News thing, but I obviously don’t think it’s fascism. They’re just being really stupid with their strategy. Yes, Fox News is conservative, but it’s also the top cable news channel. It is part of the main media (I would use the term “mainstream media, but I’m so tired of that term.) It’s just so lame (as juvenile as that sounds) to cast them out. I don’t know that any president has ever done this. I’m certainly glad the other networks called them out on attempting to not allow Fox News to interview the pay czar.
NathanG on October 23, 2009 at 1:14 AM
You see the problem is that Barack Obama shares so many traits and characteristics with fascists that anyone who has been paying attention must shut the eyes of his mind and keep them shut by force not to see them.

HornetSting on October 23, 2009 at 1:15 AM
It’s difficult for me to feel sorry for someone who has been elected to the highest office in the U.S.A. and yet he consistently refuses to respect the Constitution, preferring to trample all over it and has publicly stated that he thinks it is of no value. Not to mention his eagerness to trash talk the U.S. every opportunity he gets overseas. If he didn’t hate this country, I might feel sorry for him.
The other thing that I have trouble eliciting any pity for him is his overweening ego/narcissism. Designing his own “presidential seal” when he was only a candidate…the faux Greek columns at his acceptance speech…the way he tilts his nose up in the air…his arrogance and vanity make him hard to view in a sympathetic light. The guy does not think his feet stink (or anything else), and he views the rest of us as the “little people” he must make all the hard decisions for (like whether we should watch Fox news or listen to Rush Limbaugh or decide our own fates).
As long as he remains a vain pompous elitist, I can’t really find any sympathy for the man. Were he to show some true, genuine humility and awe for the position he holds, I might be tempted to do so. Haven’t seen much evidence of that in his actions. Just have heard…words…mere words…about how wonderfully humble he is.
His actions speak louder.
theotherone on October 23, 2009 at 1:16 AM
At last, common ground!
I freak about libs who have no direction. I met many ‘true’ Marxists who have a direction based on the Communist Manifesto. Those people know for what they’re aiming.
By the same token, I have a problem with conservatives who go out screaming the term ‘fag’ against gays. That’s not right, either. As a Bible thumper I believe homosexuality is a sin. But as an American, what two or more consenting adults do in private is not my business.
Do I want to see two guys kiss in public? No. Do I want to see a teen boy and his girlfriend neck in the mall? No.
Seems we have more in common than we have differences. So I often wonder why libs and cons are so at odds.
Liam on October 23, 2009 at 1:16 AM

Ampersand on October 23, 2009 at 1:16 AM
Yeah. I’d really like to see a HA poll of how many posters here think he’s a fascist. Of course those that do are the most vocal and outspoken, but they probably aren’t representative.
crr6 on October 23, 2009 at 1:17 AM
I recently heard this saying that may be more accurate: if you think you are surrounded by a-holes, then YOU are the a-hole.

What do you care? Aren’t we all just a bunch of knuckle-dragging racists anyway?
rockmom on October 23, 2009 at 1:18 AM
Too many of them are invested in believing that they’re right 110% of the time. That’s why I liked McCain. He’s conservative (pretty much), but is a centrist at heart. He shows you can still be against the public option, for example, but not act like a hooligan while opposing it.
NathanG on October 23, 2009 at 1:19 AM
You’d be more convincing if you could ever win a debate with me.
progressoverpeace on October 23, 2009 at 1:22 AM
If it sounds like Karl Marx, acts like Benito Mussolini, lies like Joe Isuzu, attracts followers eerily reminiscent of those Jim Jones attracted and stumbles like Bozo the Clown, it’s probably Barack Obama!!!!!
MB4 on October 23, 2009 at 1:22 AM
Yeah. It’s a bit off topic, but I figured “that” out the hard way when somebody called me a moron on this site for calling him out when he said that he would take glee in Obama’s eventual death. Ridiculous.
NathanG on October 23, 2009 at 1:23 AM

Daggett on October 23, 2009 at 1:25 AM
Let’s see. He has government ownership of the core of the banking system, insurance companies, car companies, he’s trying to get health care and health insurance (effective control via regulation in the “exchanges”), trying to get control of the whole energy sector (and then some) via Crap&Trade (along with his thrill at ‘bankrupting the coal industry’ and other fun times), desire to build a “civilian security force as big and as well-funded as the US military”, …
That’s what fascism looks like, genius. Don’t blame me. Hold a protest against dictionaries.

Hey, I remember Savannah Guthrie as a reporter on Court TV back when it was really “COURT TV”, and not a pale replication.
Good for Savannah for asking the hard questions. I reckon spending time with Nancy Grace only helped her.
Intrepid on October 23, 2009 at 1:27 AM
We all want to get from A to B. The problem is how.
Cons like me, and those others here, don’t believe government is the way about it. And please make no mistake–the people here are largely of good character.
Yes, you’ve had a few hard battles but please consider that, for the most part, the people here are basically just like you and me. Every now and again we insult each other, we piss each other off. But I’ll bet you that, if you and your worst detractor here met in person, you’d share some beers together and have a nice time.
I find the nature of those posting are good, they’re people worth talking to. I had a delightful conversation last week with another con over the Impeachment Clause of the Constitution. While we didn’t come to common decision, I learned a lot and otherwise had a great discussion. If there’s any beauty to be found here, I believe that is one of many.
Just some ideas, if you please. We cons have some ideas we we think keep liberty. That’s all it is.

If this guy’s biggest priority is Glenn Beck then we can skip everything else and move to impeach him while filing paperwork to begin Biden’s the second Obama is retired to Chicago. We are at war but apparently the war that Obama is committed to winning is his war on Fox News. If dereliction of duty in wartime is not a High Crime please advise me what is.

For an American to hear that their President is whining about anything is deeply upsetting. If all it takes is some bad press to set this clown off, I’d say we have a real problem if something militarily or terror wise crops up. Obama may wish for those good old days, like Kennedy had, where the press hid the family alcoholism and skirt chasing, but those days are long gone. Although the lefty networks downplayed Clinton’s skirt chasing, in the end they couldn’t hide it forever. What makes Dear Leader think he’s above criticism?
My kids acted that way at a time in their lives. I think they call it the terrible two’s, and we were able to correct their whiny selfish attitudes by the time they were three. Grow up Mr. President.

Not to think all the talent that may be renegotiating contracts and jump ship. Most of these were already w/FOX but look where they came from!
Bill Hemmer = CNN
Glenn Beck = CNN
Brit Hume = ABC? CBS?
John Stossel = ABC
Don Imus = NBC
Julie Banderas = I believe Univision
(her name escapes me, Latina too) but is a correspondent = Univision
It’s early, you guys can go ahead and correct some, add some. Then it will be clear to everybody one of the angles of this. NOTE: Stephanapoulous is renegotiating but for Dianne’s spot since the “anchor” that interviewed Sarah is retiring or something.
And, Obama, that happens when you demean people…they gang with each other and turn against YOU. First: Tea Partiers. Second: TV Media? It is really gonna hit the fan if and when press does, too-like Times and Newsweek.
