More Obama: Unlike Democrats, Republicans “do what they’re told”
posted at 4:45 pm on October 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Deep thoughts from a guy who insists that Rush Limbaugh is the pied piper of the GOP despite the fact that primary voters nominated his least favorite candidate last year, and who offers this at a moment when the biggest story raging on the right is a civil war among Republicans over Hoffman and Scozzafava. Jay Nordlinger’s already written two posts at the Corner about how insulting this is, with more, perhaps, on the way:
Barack Obama is pretty interesting when he gets in front of his money-givers — his biggest fans, I guess. In New York, he said, “Democrats are an opinionated bunch. You know, the other side, they just kinda sometimes do what they’re told. Democrats, y’all thinkin’ for yourselves.” Last year, in San Francisco, he said of Middle Americans, “It’s not surprising . . . they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them . . .”
He speaks a lot differently — a lot more respectfully — when he has one of his big national addresses: Then, we’re not red states or blue states but the United States, blah, blah, blah. Well, which is the real O? The nice, inclusive guy or the sneering, contemptuous partisan? I vote the latter: I think it’s the real O, unfortunately: the one who speaks to Democrats in New York and San Francisco.
And the Oval Office too, don’t forget. If you’re looking for a silver lining, here it is: This is as close as we’re ever likely to get to him admitting that his big problem on ObamaCare isn’t the nefarious — and powerless — GOP but those hardheaded, free-thinkin’ Blue Dogs who aren’t as eager as he is to toss another $900 billion in entitlements down the federal sinkhole. Thank heaven for small mercies. Click the image to watch.

Oh, I see. So Obama, in his infinite wisdom, feels that people who express a differing point of view are beyond the pale of dialogue, whereas Jew-hating terrorists and their sympathizers are perfectly fine to talk to. What happened to dissent being patriotic and all that?
TheQuestion on October 22, 2009 at 5:21 PM
History repeats itself because humans seem to have problems learning from the past. We had to endure Carter to get Reagan and it did not take Reagan long to fix Carter’s train wreck.

Yes, because if history teaches us anything, it’s that evenly-divided, heavily-armed countries where one half of the population hates the other are quite stable.
Good luck dislodging all this red and shoving it into Alaska.

There is probably some truth to that, but not in a conspiratorial way. The guy has soaked up every PC mem, internalized every (socialist) utopian fantasy, and put up a front of what what our media tells us is good behavior. It may not be so much that he was groomed as it is that he modeled his image on the dreams of other people, totally unaware that all of that superficial crap would be worse than useless in practice.

venividivici on October 22, 2009 at 5:25 PM
The leftard mythology on parade. Lefties pleasure themselves by imagining they’re intellectually superior to dumbass conservatives. Obozo is no exception. Since most lefties have accomplished nothing of substance in their lives (living in mom’s basement and all), this is how they convince themselves that they have some worth.
Of course, you can’t be superior unless you have a foil — someone who’s clearly inferior. This is where the leftard conservative myth comes in. That is, the idea that conservatives are poorly-educated, unfashionably-dressed dolts who live in trailers located in flyover states. We’re supposedly superstitious, fearful of new ideas and different cultures and can be counted on not to own a passport. We tend to be prone to follow any demagogue who speaks with passion or shows us shiny things. We cling bitterly to our guns and our Bibles.
This places The Lightworker and his smug lefty comrades at a distinct disadvantage to conservatives. They think they know who we are, and they’re dead wrong. On the other hand, we know exactly who and what they are.

I agree, Esthier. I love my state, Texas, in all its parts, liberal or conservative. Texas is one of the most diverse in the country, to me, as it gets. We have both rural areas and large urban areas. I couldn’t live anywhere else. I lived in Kansas for three years and hated it. I am offended by Simple’s remark. There are Democrats in Alaska. Former governor of Alaska Tony Knowles comes to mind. Ann Richards loved Texas. She just saw it in a different light. Does it really matter who runs the states?
My pride in my state outweighs me having a conniption if a Dem won the governorship.

Esthier on October 22, 2009 at 5:47 PM
Gawd, he is such a freakin’ tool.
The entire reason why I turned from liberalism to conservatism is because I could no longer tow the left-wing line.
My liberal friends dropped away in droves because my imaginary thought-crimes were becoming much too “hateful” and (gay) “self-loathing”.
True…there is a minute segment of small-minded, paranoid conservatives who appear to relish in challenging credentials simply for exercising critical thinking…but thankfully they are few and far between.
Conservatives may not always agree with you (or one another) but I’ve found that they’re at least willing to hear your opinion without dismissing you outright.
Most importantly for me as a gay conservative…I’ve never once been given the cold shoulder at a conservative gathering. Quite the contrary.
Though because of my dreadlocks, I will admit to have been given “the look” a few times but instead of screaming “hate crime!”, I’ve learned to just simply laugh it off.
Hell, if I saw me sitting in the audience, I’d probably alert security too.
