It’s come to this: White House tries to bar Fox News from interviewing pay czar
posted at 7:35 pm on October 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Decide for yourself what the most disgraceful aspect of this is. Was it the fact that Gibbs told Jake Tapper explicitly on Monday that the White House wouldn’t try to dictate to the press pool who should and shouldn’t be included — before doing precisely that? Was it Anita Dunn going out of her way to say she respects Major Garrett as a fair reporter — before the administration decided he didn’t deserve a crack here at Feinberg? Or was it the repeated insistence by Dunn and Axelrod that of course the administration will make its officials available to Fox — before pulling the plug today?
The other networks deserve the praise they’re getting for standing up to the Baby-in-Chief, but if they had acquiesced in this freezeout, a precedent would have been set that would have been eagerly used by future Republican presidents to close them off too. And don’t think they weren’t all keenly aware of it.

Grow Fins:
Without invective and insult, trying to calm the fight between us, I wish to say a few words. Please bear with me, okay?
Far as I can see, you seem to really hate me and others here like me. As you come across, you show you despise us, you seem to think what we hold dear is something to be mocked, devalued, and destroyed. Maybe that’s not your intention, but that’s how you portray yourself and your overall politics.
Except we’re not much different from you. We love our families and our friends. Like I imagine you are loved, too, you enjoy barbecues and the love shown you from those in your life.
Why do you hate us here so much? We’re just average people here, like you. Why do you hate us with so much venom, why do you think reporters and politicians are somehow better than the people who post here?
We here love others, with passion like I rarely see. We love our country, we love our liberty. All we want is to be left alone to enjoy being with those who love us in return.
Yet, you ceaselessly insult us, as if abuse is some kind of right you hold to yourself. The people here are of good character and, while none are perfect, you can’t claim some kind of perfection of yourself. Face it: you’re an abuser.
You ceaselessly attack our values, you assail our varied religions, and all else we hold dear. You pull up anecdotes to justify yourself, but you never stopped to consider the people here don’t always and necessarily follow those things to the letter.
You pigeonholed us, putting us into a box of your your own creation and design. That made it easy for you to dismiss us, to disparage us. Then you do the very evil of which you accuse us, then claim First Amendment right.
Does that hypocrisy truly sit with you, that you can sleep well at night?
You’re a liberal, and once I was, too. Becoming conservative, I took some progressive things with me–like living and let-live.
By your own statements, you believe we’re somehow evil degenerates not worthy to be heard. But we’re not. We’re average men and women like you.
I ask you to please pause a moment to consider that possiblity, if you never thought of it before.

I don’t want to split hairs, but, I asked for evidence that FOX mischaracterized or lied about the administration, their policies or their statements. Unless you are arguing that ACORN is part of the administration, I don’t think it fits.
That aside, there is some give and take on the ACORN story. ACORN claimed that big government lied, that they had not committed a crime and that they had filed a police report after Giles and O’Keefe left. I do not know whether or not there was proof of the police report. However, Big Government responded to that by releasing the entire Philadelphia video which does provide evidence that the Philadelphia ACORN office gave them information and advice which was against the law.
We’ve all heard the story about the drug addict that calls the cops to report that his stash has been stolen….just because he called the cops does not mean he wasn’t also guilty of a crime. The same goes for ACORN. If they provided the help and advice, arguably, they did commit a crime.
You might feel differently and I truly believe that one could make a good argument that in the moment the ACORN person wanted to appear helpful so as not to agitate the pimp but called the cops immediately afterward. However, a difference of opinion on whether or not it counts as a crime on something this ambiguous is hardly a blatant mischaracterization or outright lie.
Do you have any evidence that FOX had a story that was not ambiguous at all and chose to report it in such a way as to give the viewers the opposite impression from the truth of the story? Something akin to forging documents to back up a story they didn’t have any other evidence for? Or reporting something based on a lead that they knew was false? Or chopping a quote or taking it out of context so it appeared to mean the opposite of what it does mean?

It is incredibly fascinating to read the trolls’ crap about how “Fox isn’t news”. First, nice parroting. Second, it is a much a news source as CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, The Washington Post, LA Times, etc. At least Fox diferentiates between news and opinion while the rest don’t. 3rd, Why does Fox, talk radio, and the internet piss off Obama so much. He has every other source kissing his ass and covering for him, why can’t there by ANY dissent? Because he wants to be a dictator. He wants to turn the nation socialist if not communist and doesn’t want the people to find out until it’s too late. It’s obvious. That’s why the founders made Freedom of Speech a paramount right of the people; to stop exactly this type of takeover. For those of you who can’t see that, you need to read more history. It’s been done before.

Meh … Fox News has the highest ratings and will WIN any war with the White House even if the rest of the Press Corps decides to hang Fox out to dry. Fox is the big boy on the block – and they can single handedly drag this White House to it’s knees if the wanted to.
Now … When Sarah Palin becomes President and decides to piss on MSNBC … that shrimp won’t have a chance.
Grow Fins and the rest of his libby buddies need to think about that. What goes around comes around.
Only a stupid child doesn’t realize that.

Fins do you think the President’s insane campaign against Fox increases their viewership?
CWforFreedom on October 22, 2009 at 9:10 PM
Because they embarrass his emptiness and the Baby in Chief can’t take the ridicule.
When you are psychologically as sick as he is, an arrogant, narcissistic, passive aggressive cipher, an underdeveloped teenager, given the world stage…you can’t handle not even the slightest dissent.
This is a perfect case study for PHds in psychology. Something like this has never been.

Please stop quoting out of context and without providing links. There is no way to tell if you have redacted what was actually said. For all we know the quotation could have gone something like, “Some religious leaders have said they fear they may be prosecuted for their religious beliefs if they believe that homosexuality is a sin.” Which would be true and not a smear.
Threshing Flora on October 22, 2009 at 9:12 PM
It’s a smear only if telling the truth is a smear. The hate speech bill passed by the House (and today by the Senate) does just that. Pedophiles are now officially protected class against hate “crimes” (read: speech), but the moonbat Left that hurls invective against our veterans can go right on doing what they do so well.
Clearly, Democrats care more about sexual perverts (pedophiles and sex-switchers) than our military. But we’ve known that all along.

Liberals are not happy unless they are judging someone or peering down their imperious, victimized noses at the unwashed and unenlightened “others”. Opposing views are DANGEROUS views. Only the HIVE matters, no thought to the costs, figurative or literal.

Debate has 2 sides. Fox showed with the tea party postings that there WAS opposition to Obamacare. If there had been only 1 tea party in Texas I believe Fox would have ignored it because it wouldn’t have shown opposition to Obamacare from across the nation. And Tea Party announcements started on grass roots blogs, not at Fox. They “picked up” the story and explained it to the nation= something journalists used to do, or have you forgotten the protests of Vietnam, etc ? And they made sure to have guests on that argued for Obamacare. And they had guests on that read the healthcare/stimulus bills and found fault with it and they explained it. Fox IS balanced. The others -not so much.

The ObaMao administration will continue to push the envelope to see what it can get away with. It deserves every bit of pushback for its consolidation of power. “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.” Unless they want to be passive serfs, all citizens should be awake and watchful. This is not an issue of one network over another, nor is it a conflict between party philosophies. Freedom of the press/media is a guaranteed right protected by our Constitution.

And Grow Fins- when you talk to Carville next tell him that as a political commentator who is closely connected to Obama and Hillary that he shouldn’t be advising Karzai’s oppostion. He is actually trying to change the political landscape in Afghanistan, not just report on it. And if Obama withdraws troops and the Taliban takes over it is on Carville’s shoulders. We have a State Dept for a reason. I wonder how much of the angst directed at the US should actually be directed at operators like Carville who probably tell these folks that they are connected, and when the shit hits the fan, they leave em hanging.

Just the fact that we have a “pay

Were there any hard-hitting questions asked of the “pay czar”? I find that concept wholly unconstitutional, too, just as I find government bailouts offensive.
onlineanalyst on October 22, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I disagree.
First, I don’t think Sarah Palin would be so inclined, if she were in that position. She is a person who is comfortable in her own skin, and she connects with real people. That doesn’t mean I think she should or should not be in charge — it just means that I don’t think this would occur to her to do. And I mean that as a compliment. In fact, I don’t think most Republican leaders, certainly no Republican worth their salt, would ever try anything this brazen.
It simply constitutes picking a fight that you cannot possibly win. Only these clowns were stupid and arrogant enough to give it a go.
Reaching the decision to go ahead with the plan had to have been the culmination of a kind of a heady and out-of-touch “group-think” atmosphere gripping the attitudes of the key folks in the White House. And it really is frightening in a way, because the broad-based criticisms of the President didn’t just come at them out of the blue.
They saw the tea parties, and they read the polls.
The astonishing thing is that this team is making serious judgment calls across the board every single day; ones that deeply effect us all. And this is the way they operate?
Just think for a second about how out-of-touch they all had to be to listen to Anita Dunn. We’ve all seen the clips on YouTube. She is one of the President’s top five advisors!
She somehow convinced these twerps to draw battle lines with a large and increasingly popular media outlet, only to back down in defeat in a heartbeat at the first sign of resistence from others.
And they are our first line of defense with all the bad actors in the world!
Oh my! If you are Putin, or Ahmadinejad, or Chavez, or even some lesser head case out there . . . does this embolden you, or what?

From Urban Dictionary:
“Jump the Shark”–
a term to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.
This is what has happened to the Obama administration, with one correction. It should read in this particular instance: “This is a term to decscribe a moment when something that was once “HOPED (OR HYPED) TO BE” great reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity”.
It is amazing, really amazing, to see this adolescent drama regarding Fox news unfold.

Honestly folks Fox is the only place one can see debate between left and right on a consistent basis. Yes the pundits lean to the right as most MSM pundits lean left but who is more willing to face the other side and argue issues? Whether its Hannity vs Lanny Davis or O’Reilly vs Beckel or Geraldine Ferraro you will always see real debate. I have NEVER seen Keith Olbermann debate someone on his show. CNN rarely. A Typical CNN panel consists of Blitzer, Malveaux,Jeff Toobin , Cafferty and racist Roland Martin. All Liberals. On occasion they bring on half dead Bill Bennett. Ask Hillary who treated her more fairly during the campaign? She will admit Fox and her best interiew was on O’Reilly. Obama is a dangerous President who seems to want to emulate Hugo Chavez. nuke the fridge
June 3, 2008 Urban Word of the Day
A colloquialism used to delineate the precise moment at which a cinematic franchise has crossed over from remote plausibility to self parodying absurdity, usually indicating a low point in the series from which it is unlikely to recover. A reference to one of the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in which the titular hero manages to avoid death by nuclear explosion by hiding inside a kitchen refrigerator. The film is widely recognised by fans as a major departure from the rest of the series both in terms of content and quality.

Any objective history buffs here that can possibly point to any other time in our history as a nation where we’ve seen a presidency quite like this?

Lets not give the drive by media too much credit here. This was a move to protect their own butts and they will go back to the Obama worship post haste.

I would like to commend the many Hot Air posters for the beatdown of Grow Fins tonight. I was a well cooridnated and successful attack. I just wish that David Frum could have seen it. No joke…I am proud.

I wonder what Obama is so worried about that he would create such a pathetic distraction like this war on FOX that makes him look so partisan and petty:
New jobless claims rise more than expected to 531K.

Surely going after FOX news is a worthy cause and not intended to distract the public from this administrations problems.
I mean Newsweek gave Obama an A- on his job so far.
Yea…the Whiner and Chief wants everybody to think that it is the EEEEEEEEEvil Republicans and FOX news that are the problem in this country, not the long list of failure that Mr. 57 states is accumulating at an incredible rate.
This won’t work Obama.
Your failure is to big to hide it behind faux outrage and demonization of people and entities that are going to hold you accountable.

I can imagine a terse announcement announcing her departure being leaked at 11:59:36 pm to MSNBC.
Just for fun, here is the risible notice currently posted on her bio at Wikipedia:
Now, you just know that there have been some “churlish” folks out there, champing at the bit to add their two cents!
