Breaking: Palin endorses Hoffman

If national media wasn’t following this race before, they will be tomorrow.
It’s my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.
Our nation is at a crossroads, and this is once again a “time for choosing.”
The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.
And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.
Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.
Follow the link for the full statement, which includes a reference to Reagan — whom, you’ll note, was also invoked by Gingrich during his interview with Laura Ingraham as an example of someone who campaigned for Republicans to his left ideologically. I said a few weeks ago that “Sarahcuda’s only a clear asset on the trail in a red district where the base isn’t turning out,” which makes NY-23 an almost perfect fit for her: Hoffman only wins if grassroots conservatives turn out in force and her endorsement is the surest way of making that happen. More interesting than the endorsement, though, is her derisive reference to “political machines.” That won’t win her any friends among the GOP’s leadership, but then, we already knew that she was positioning herself as the “true conservative” outsider. Which, again, makes this an almost perfect fit.
One note of warning: Although its congressional seat has traditionally been solid Republican, NY-23 did break for Obama last year. There is a Democratic presence there, which means there’s a risk that conservatives won’t be the only party base galvanized by her entrance into the campaign. For better or worse, some of her clout’s on the line here too, especially now that The One’s thrown in for the Democrat. Good luck, Palinistas.

Tonight I hae the same feeling I did in Sep 1978 at a dinner with then former Gov. Reagan in Westmoreland county after he made his remarks. For the first time I saw the way forward to stop retreating and counterattack. We can do it again. Rally to Sarah!

Ah, that felt good. First time I’ve donated ($25) to any political cause in months. Last time it was my local Tea Party, now it’s a legit Conservative in New York (I’m in GA) who has a shot at taking down a classic RINO. Win or lose, it was money well-spent.
I adore Sarah. Truly, I try so hard to be objective and rational about her, but it’s tough to do when all I can think is that I hope I can be like her some day. Presidential material or not, she’s just fantastic.
I think I’ll tune out the condescension tomorrow – it’s obligatory and predictable anyhow.

hollywood didn’t produce them. It was produced outside the country and the contract the director had was that he and only he was in charge of the creative input to the movie. All hollywood did was play the movie to moviegoers. Peter Jackson made sure no one in hollywood was anywhere near the filming and the result tells you all you need to know about hollywood.

Don’t forget Michelle Bachmann endorsed Hoffman yesterday – the only sitting member of the GOPs in Congress to do so overtly. Although Laura Ingraham kind of put her in the position where she had to sh&& or get off the pot, so to speak, she did stick her neck out first. It made it a little easier for Sarah to do so.
Not that I’m unhappy to see Sarah endorse Hoffman. Just want to give credit where credit is due.

Hoffman doesn’t even live in the district he wants to represent. If hoffman were a democrat, there would be feigned outrage from the far right wing/code pink of the right. What a shameful case of group think. You guys are no better than those who followed Obama for HOPE! I would be embarrassed to be so intellectually vacant and hypocritical. she allowed Newt to make a fool of himself. She let her ally Fred feel the front lines at its weakest point. She allowed Dede to make an ass out of herself not once but twice and when the internal polls are showing that Doug is now in econd place while the public polls show him in third she strikes. When the next poll is released it should reflect the internal polls and Palin can take credit for moving Doug into number 2 slot. The GOP elites will be seen as the spoilers and will feel pressure to withdraw from the field or face total defeat at the polls. Dede will have to withdrawal to save face so the moderate Rino’s can still make some type of case for liberal thought in the party. and Palin gets to declare victory win or lose the election.

It should be noted that regional HuckPac has already been out in NY23 canvasing the district for Hoffman. I think it’s wise of Romney and Huckabee and others to stay out of this ‘small-potatoes’ fight. Scozzafaza is a lousy candidate, but to endorse a 3rd party guy against the Republican party, while at the same time seeking to become the leader of that party..well it’s like shooting yourself in the foot. Don’t forget that the Democrat Owens is still in the lead. This endorsement could backfire on Gov. Palin…it could be said that she helped split the vote and assured a Democratic win. Dede should just read the writing on the wall and drop out. Wishful thinking?

This is starting to get personal for me. Between teh Won and Gibby telling a news organization what they are or aren’t, and what they can and can’t do, and talking heads musing whether VP Cheney is mentally deranged or not, people being impugned as racists simply for having an opinion, and, of course, the whole mountain of shite that got dropped on Sarah Palin–I’m really pissed off, and I know I’m not the only one. I think that if Sarah Palin would write a piece in which she ripped the Obamedia a new one, and did it on behalf of Americans everywhere who have been deprived of a voice, and have been mocked endlessly by the coastal elites, it would create a ripple that would quickly become a tidal wave. Pence sort of did it on C-Span but it didn’t take off. Sarah Palin is uniquely in the position of becoming the voice of conservatives all over this country. I love her position pieces, but I want her to put out a righteous Cuda-style b*tch-slap upside the heads of these clowns inside the Beltway, and on screens everywhere. Do it Sarah!

The last poll before Palin’s endorsement had Hoffman at 23%. It will interesting to see what it ends up at election day.
And no, this district is not a “deep red” district. Obama won it, and Democrats controlled this seat for nearly 50 of the last 70 years. It would be simply amazing for a Conservative Party (not GOP) to win this seat, and if Hoffman does it it will a HUGE victory for Palin. HUGE.

I agree with that statement completely. But there is another force at work in this particular case and that is the independent voters. They tend to be more toward the center and a bit to the left of the Republican “base”. New York has closed primaries. If the “base” is energized by Palin, it could result in a candidate that is put forward by the base that isn’t electable in the general election.
What is Hoffman’s polling among independents? If the independents shy away from him and vote for the Democrat, there is nothing the Republicans can do.
Republicans need more than half the independents to win an election and independents will swamp either party’s “base” every time.

I disagree. liberals base is 25% so independents will swamp liberals everytime. However conservative base is 40% that means independents are only at most 35% the only way the independts swamp that base is if they all break for the liberal which in the “real world” never happens. therfore liberals need almost all the independents to vote for them and thus must lie cheat and steal elections. Conservatives on the other hand simply need 11% more of the people and those they can educate. Adn when a majority of independents break for the conservative that is what is known as a Reagan landslide.

Conservative base is 40% of the Republican party, maybe. But not 40% of all voters. And “conservatives” aren’t going to vote in the primary, Republicans are. So “conservative” independents and Democrats won’t have a say. And in an increasing number of places these days, independents outnumber both Republicans and Democrats in registered voters. Independents are the fastest (i.e. ONLY) growing demographic in the electorate and refuse to be labeled either “Conservatve” or “Liberal”.
I don’t know the numbers in that specific district but my guess is that the independents outnumber the Republican base by a considerable margin.

Do you remember the scene in Braveheart where the King is sitting on his horse and tell his general to send in all of the reserves? Then the rebels wait until the last minute and raise the wooden stakes and decimate the cavalry! Sarah just waited until the last minute and the slaughter is on. The trouble with some on this blog is that they can’t enjoy the wonderful events happening right now in the world of politics. Who knows who will win this fight but God, it’s going to be fun. As far as you number crunchers go, forget about it and enjoy an event that only happens once in most peoples lifetime. The people in NY23 might be from diverse backgrounds but when passion comes to politics all bets are off.

No one knows what the future may hold, and Sarah Palin may or not be the Republican nominee at some point. But it is now clear for all to see, that if not, then the Rep party has decided against nominating a conservative. If so, then she (and the conservative base) have been successful in bringing the party back to the base. Either way, Sarah Palin will from this point forward be a litmus test for all who run in the Rep party and claim to be conservative.
Also, I’m not going to be too critical of Newt here. He was very supportive of Sarah during last years campaign. And I don’t think Sarah sees Newt in this at all. She has a bigger picture in mind.

Awesome — I have been waiting and hoping for this! This woman is absolutely without fear and principled to her core. Who cares if the guy wins or not? She has shown us that she will stand up for what is right (no pun intended). THIS is the kind of leader we need!
Off to donate now to Hoffman’s campaign. I hope he cleans up and Chris Christie gets his ass handed to him in NJ. Pay attention, timid establishment Republicans: This is how stuff gets done.

I hope Hoffman wins, especially now that Palin has endorsed him. It will send a clear message that THIS time IT IS different. We are no longer following the party lines (lies)!

Conservative base is 40% of the Republican party, maybe. But not 40% of all voters. And “conservatives” aren’t going to vote in the primary, Republicans are. So “conservative” independents and Democrats won’t have a say. And in an increasing number of places these days, independents outnumber both Republicans and Democrats in registered voters. Independents are the fastest (i.e. ONLY) growing demographic in the electorate and refuse to be labeled either “Conservatve” or “Liberal”.
I don’t know the numbers in that specific district but my guess is that the independents outnumber the Republican base by a considerable margin.

Gallup tends to disagree with you. According to gallup poll 40% of country identifies themselves as conservatives.
As far as the republican base is conserned more that 40% on conservatives in the neighborhood of 70-80%. In fact the great “fear” of the GOP elites in DC is that the base elects a conservatve in the primary that fails to get the crossover votes in the general election.
yes independents are a growing group AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE GOP IS DECREASING. which says that as the GOP turns more liberal conservatives are dropping out of the GOP thus the increase in independents is mostly coming from conservatives.
Also polls consitentluy list liberals as 20-25% of all voters.
So 40% of ALL voters are conservative 35% are independents with a large section of those conservative or leaning conservative and only 20-25% liberal.
even if you split the difference in the independents and say 50% of them lean democratic and 50% lean republician that’s 17.5%
therefore a real conservative would be able to get upwards of 57.5% of the vote while a real liberal or at least one that openly says they are liberal would at most be able to get 42.5% of the vote if you include leaners.
this is why dems run from the label liberal. It is why they have taken to calling themselves progressive. Why they must lie and move to the center to win elections. they need to fool another 8% of the population into thinking they are middle of the road or at the least center canidates. Whereas 1980, 1984 and 1994 shows that a true conservative can run not to the center but as his/herself and still get landslides.
the media and DC folks want the country to be center left so they can get more power by bribing voters. Yet polls tell a different story.
Obama ran as a conservative in the South. a liberal in the elite cities and a moderate in the battlegrounds. and the press never called him on it.

Right on. Right on. Next Palin should ask her Facebook followers to each donate $10. If just 10% would do that, she could raise $1 million for Hoffman’s campaign, which more than double what he’s raised so far.

This is my favorite scene in my favorite film in the LOTR trilogy. I always cry, especially at the sight of Gandalf, appearing at the top of that hill. True heroes.
Sarah is a true hero. She is doing what is right, not what is politically expedient. Whether she runs for any other office or not, I admire her for standing in the gap during the dark days of this administration. She is like Deborah, the prophetess of Israel, speaking truth with boldness.
