Breaking: Palin endorses Hoffman
posted at 8:46 pm on October 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
If national media wasn’t following this race before, they will be tomorrow.
It’s my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.
Our nation is at a crossroads, and this is once again a “time for choosing.”
The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.
And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.
Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.
Follow the link for the full statement, which includes a reference to Reagan — whom, you’ll note, was also invoked by Gingrich during his interview with Laura Ingraham as an example of someone who campaigned for Republicans to his left ideologically. I said a few weeks ago that “Sarahcuda’s only a clear asset on the trail in a red district where the base isn’t turning out,” which makes NY-23 an almost perfect fit for her: Hoffman only wins if grassroots conservatives turn out in force and her endorsement is the surest way of making that happen. More interesting than the endorsement, though, is her derisive reference to “political machines.” That won’t win her any friends among the GOP’s leadership, but then, we already knew that she was positioning herself as the “true conservative” outsider. Which, again, makes this an almost perfect fit.
One note of warning: Although its congressional seat has traditionally been solid Republican, NY-23 did break for Obama last year. There is a Democratic presence there, which means there’s a risk that conservatives won’t be the only party base galvanized by her entrance into the campaign. For better or worse, some of her clout’s on the line here too, especially now that The One’s thrown in for the Democrat. Good luck, Palinistas.

Risky, but awesome. It’s probably going to throw the donations for Hoffman and the Dem into overdrive.
Either way, the (R) is toast.

I don’t see a downside. She solidifies her credentials as a principled conservative outside the Washington power structure.

Polls:
Conservatives and/or Republicans – 52%
Democrats – 32%
Shouldn’t be too hard to win this, folks. Figure it out.

Right now, I really don’t give a rats a**
Awesome move!!

Sarah Palin supports Doug Hoffman. Where are the other GOP presidential hopefuls…..? Exactly. Wake up people. Huck-a-phony, Mitt the Plastic Candidate, and Tim “Cap and Trade” Pawlenty are not the real deal. Palin is.
And Newt is still back the left wing radical Scozzafava. He has made himself into a joke. Newt is a D.C. insider and a has-been. Yes, he’s smart. Sarah can hire him to go be smart as the head of some agency or department.

PS Talk about a 4-inch red pump kick in Newt’s nuts!
Jaibones on October 22, 2009 at 8:51 PM
It’s a big risk for her, because she’s going to look like crap if Hoffman comes in third, and will only look moderately hot if he comes in second.
But if he wins, so does she, regardless of whether or not he would have won anyway.
Greg Q on October 22, 2009 at 8:51 PM
This is what a leader does. Nice to see that she’s not just talk but will go out on a limb.

Thanks Sarah! She is an amazing woman and an amazing conservative!

Will Hoffman try to nuke the printing presses? Not if he’s attached at the hip to Kristol, Frum and that gang. Only time will tell…

SouthernPatriot on October 22, 2009 at 8:52 PM
I don’t care too much about a congressional district in NY.
However, I would like to see more conservatives (especially fiscal conservatives) in congress and I’d like to see big names in the GOP be willing to take risks instead of endorsing extremely liberal candidates just because they think it’s a sure win. I’m not saying that a NY congressman should be as conservative as a UT congressman, but, I don’t see the point of nominating extremely liberal GOP candidates in safe red districts either.
With those two things in mind, I just donated $25 through Palin’s link.

Not a candidate I’m enthused about her endorsing – but it should have an interesting effect.
Considering the alternative there wasn’t much choice. Love to see this take Hoffman over the top.

They are too scared to bring their heads out of the sand. I think it is a bold move by Palin and a good one. Someone eventually has to take a stand and she has shown in her past that she will fight her own party.
bluemarlin on October 22, 2009 at 8:54 PM
Now she needs to come out for Rubio, although I don’t think she will because of Crist.

Good for you Palin! I am glad you are throwing your influence behind Hoffman!
Buffalo on October 22, 2009 at 8:55 PM
There’s no way the (R) can keep up with the fundraising now, no matter how much support she gets from the GOP on the national level. She’s toast, and her voters should start fleeing over to Hoffman. Whether that’s enough to offset the money that the Dem is going to also be raising as a result of this, we’ll have to wait and see.
BadgerHawk on October 22, 2009 at 8:55 PM
This is a risk for her, because if it burns badly people and the media will blame her for “sticking her nose into it.”
But I think it was an excellent choice and time to start getting back into politics for her. She’s always been about risk and not taking the easy path.
Enoxo on October 22, 2009 at 8:55 PM
Newt made the mistake of selling his principles short. If we don’t have the confidence to believe conservatism is a viable commodity in America, America will suffer. Newt is a smart guy and a valuable conservative – but I hope this affair will remind him that conservatives can win; we must not sell out! This is great news!!
ManUFan on October 22, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Awesome. I’m just watching Glenn Beck’s show from today. It’s so good, and I’ve only watched the first segment. “Spritzers” ought to catch on as a handle for RINOs. They’re on notice, and I have a funny feeling the base is rumbling.
hoosiermama on October 22, 2009 at 8:56 PM
And someone thought she would endorse Scozzafava. When push comes to shove, Palin will be at the head of the ticket.
jainphx on October 22, 2009 at 8:57 PM
Who cares even if Hoffman loses to a Dem? Bill Clinton endorses Dems that lose all the time. It’s about standing up for principle– and the reason we love Sarah is because she does. It’s rather refreshing.
Pasalubong on October 22, 2009 at 8:57 PM
Listen up RINOs — this is what we have for you!
(Note to Newt — Admit you made a mistake on Dede and be more careful nest time.)

Good on ya’, Palin! Now get down there in the last week of the Campaign and work your guts out for the young man. He deserves it!
Dadgummit, Robert Stacy McCain, I told you she would come through!
Movement Conservative Money will now move into Hoffman’s warchest in a huge way. RTL’s, Gun Rights folk, and libertarians can now safely donate to Hoffman.
Prediction? Dede leaves the race by the first of next week as the Handwriting is on the wall.
Mittens? Huck? They will lamely follow in Sarah’s footsteps.

Amadeus on October 22, 2009 at 9:02 PM
A valid point! However it is an open seat again in 2010, if he is a blithering idiot then he can be replaced then. I still think it is more important to show the GOP leadership that conservative votes are not guaranteed for them. How they have not learned that already over the last two cycles I don`t know, maybe this is what it takes.
bluemarlin on October 22, 2009 at 9:02 PM
Oh … did anyone else hear that, in addition to Newt’s endorsement – “The Scozz” has also been endorsed by DKos.
LOL! Newt really stepped in it on this one!
HondaV65 on October 22, 2009 at 9:02 PM
When Hoffman pulls ahead you might see Huck or Romney endorse him. Until then, not a chance. You can always tell what someone truly believes by how much they are willing to risk. Palin is taking a risk by supporting a candidate who currently trails.
She believes in conservatism, bless her.
pugwriter on October 22, 2009 at 9:02 PM
Major General Sarah Palin seeks to establish a foothold in the liberal state of New York by signaling an attack on Congress through an armored thrust via Mr. Doug Hoffman. Seeking to build the Congress that she will one day wield against liberals as a means to push them into a pit of fire, General Palin has placed the GOP leadership on clear notice of the new game in town. Outmaneuvering the staunch RINO old guard, the fresh faced Palin and Congresswoman Michele Bachman have helped double the war chest of Mr. Hoffman in an effort to pummel RINO contender Dede Scuzzafaca and send a clear message to others, including the White House.
ted c on October 22, 2009 at 9:03 PM
Well ,this probably means that Dede Scuzzoflava has now got AP’s endorsement.
Dr. Carlo Lombardi on October 22, 2009 at 9:03 PM

She has taken a stand as have hundreds of thousands of us throughout the last few months. She is our standard bearer.

Palin without friends among the GOP leadership… Nothing new about that.
meltenn on October 22, 2009 at 9:05 PM
I just don’t find this very interesting. It seems like such a politically easy decision. Hoffman is an independent, so there is no political risk to supporting him.
Now if she came out for Rubio that would be more interesting.

Jeff from WI on October 22, 2009 at 9:05 PM
The horserace, “who’s hot” BS aspect of politics bores me to death. This race is not about Sarah Palin, and it won’t be no matter who wins. It’s a local race, the politics is local, and the national people are just effing it all up.
She endorsed a candidate to make a statement about who she is, and bless her for that. Newt and the Weenies also made a statement about who they were. And I don’t like who they are.
Jaibones on October 22, 2009 at 9:05 PM
Newt is frantically dialing Scuzzfacea’s number asking her to drop out….
ted c on October 22, 2009 at 9:05 PM
Bigger than the specific endorsement, people like us finally have a voice that people have to listen to. What is written in the endorsement is as important as the endorsement itself. I could see this as the beginning of a turning of the tide – only time will ltell. Finally a leader willing to spell out conservative priniciples and point out the failure of the current ‘machine’. The GOP isn’t going to be able to keep hiding its head up its a$$ with her speaking out like this. I love this woman.
miConsevative on October 22, 2009 at 9:05 PM
I still don’t understand this attitude:
What’s your point?
Palin communicates clear, solid common sense conservative principles…which is why I support her.
Any time conservatism is spoken articulately and with boldness, of course the hard left will be motivated to respond…especially when, as is inevitable, the messenger has been deemed a stupid, divisive politician by the leftist media puppetmasters.
If all you’re doing is pointing out the obvious…then fine.
But I see some folks using reasoning like this to try to make the case that Palin should just go away because the puppetmasters have deemed her unworthy for the debate.
I don’t want someone who feels common sense has to be moderated and watered down…and frankly we need as many people as we can in politics to confidently speak out in the name of common sense conservatism.

Nothing is going to change AP. Win or lose, she wins. Reagan also endorsed candidates that lost. Your argument that she loses clout is in direct contradiction with the facts concerning Reagan’s rise.
Also, she’s just as powerful now, some may argue more powerful, than before she resigned as governor because of the coordinated attack by the progressive-marxists.
Hm.

By her rise to governor, Palin already proved doing the right thing today beats cynical calculations for short-term gain. If Republicans lose 23 and Hoffman loses, it won’t be because Palin did the wrong thing. That distinction belongs to Newt and Republican apparatchiks.

They were critical of him last time around, and they endorsed Hoffman already.
He did endorse Rubio, though, and I’d like to see Palin do the same. As others noted, she may feel some loyalty to Crist from their previous gubernatorial relationship.

And we’ll all feel great when Doug Hoffman gets a voice in the U.S. Congress
Get ready for the Election Jubilee
Hurrah! Hurrah!

Hurrah! Hurrah!

And we’ll all feel great when Doug Hoffman gets a voice in the U.S. Congress
Let liberty and life rule on that day
