Trainwreck: Scozzafava holds photo op … outside Hoffman’s office

posted at 4:30 pm on October 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

I can’t help feeling some sympathy for her at this point, as clearly she and her staff weren’t prepared for a tough race with national media attention. The clusterfark with the Standard, capped by proof that her staffers were lying, was bad enough, but in case there was any lingering doubt that this train is off the tracks, this masterstroke of political optics ought to remove it. A helpful hint from Dave Weigel to whoever it was on Team Dede that thought a presser outside the opponent’s HQ would be a smooth move: “Little-known fact: There are lots of campaign workers, and signs, in such offices, ready to be deployed.”

Exit question: What’s more embarrassing here, the fact that she’s questioning someone else’s “political courage” after having called the cops on John McCormack for asking her a question about abortion or the fact that Doug Hoffman already challenged her to a series of debates months ago, which she duly declined?

Opps… Stacy and Clinton

Memo to any future candidates in the New York area: Check resumes carefully when hiring your campaign manager. If you see Dede Scozzafava as last employer, please discard resume in nearest trash can.

Doug Hoffman must have been pleased with Dede’s location. What a train wreck!

yoda on October 21, 2009 at 7:09 PM

HOffman just contributed $100 to her campaign…figures it is money well spent for his candidacy.
Which would have been funny, having him write a check and hand it to her thanking her for the free publicity.
One of the funniest and most awkward campaign speeches I have ever seen…

Who best represents your positions politically?

Scuzzywuzzy,

Heh.

And they think Sarah Palin is stupid. C’mon man!

technopeasant on October 21, 2009 at 7:36 PM

I heard Hoffman on Glenn Beck today. He is head and shoulders above the ACORN-approved Dede. Makes me want to contribute $100 to Doug Hoffman right now.

indypat on October 21, 2009 at 7:42 PM

It was bothering me… What does this remind me of? Then it came to me… Ralphie coming down the stairs on Christmas morning in the pink rabbit outfit his aunt made him and his father exclaiming “he looks like a deranged Easter bunny” lol!

CCRWM on October 21, 2009 at 5:32 PM

Any political advisor worth their salt would have nixed the pink outfit and had her appear with the “major award” lamp.

Rumor has it that The Precedent values his more than the Nobel Appease Prize!

ya2daup on October 21, 2009 at 7:45 PM

Dede needs support in more than just her campaign. Like in the bra department- the girls are looking sad and low.

Monica on October 21, 2009 at 4:48 PM

Train wreck!

Dukehoopsfan on October 21, 2009 at 7:46 PM

So obvious this woman is a Dem.
Republican women look like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann and Liz Cheney.
Rename her Dede Scuzzafatso.

lonestar1 on October 21, 2009 at 4:51 PM

That’s not too sexist.

What does your mother look like? How about a sister or aunt? Are all the Republican women in your life physically attractive? Is that a requirement?

No

Its only the men in Somalia who don’t want women wearing bras.
How about Scuzzyfatso?

lonestar1 on October 21, 2009 at 4:57 PM

Whom exactly are you trying to insult? So far you’ve only highlighted your own shortcomings.

The woman has made enough gaffes and errors to provide ample fodder for discussion without resorting to middle-school insults.

The Race Card on October 21, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Too bad Hoffman evidently wasn’t in the office – he could have come out and offered to debate her right on the spot. After all, there were plenty of cameras there anyway.

She, of course, would have declined the offer.

darwin-t on October 21, 2009 at 7:49 PM

Those 6 years getting a BA in ‘Communications’ was surely wasted.

simplesimon on October 21, 2009 at 5:19 PM

It wasn’t as much a waste as whatever you paid for your grammar checker, pal. Now don’t you wish that you’d spent your allowance on the Captain Kirk footie jammies instead?

Charges of sexism and racism, while easily mocked as rife with double standards, are destroying a once great party.

I have never been one to stand around silently while sexists and bigots spew their venom. I’m disgusted by the reticence and impotence with which Republicans have responded to an obvious uptick in bigoted rhetoric and actions.

Until more Republicans are responsible enough to speak out against these malignant trends the party will continue to atrophy then die.

I have an idea for her next photo op. She could sit on a couch on the beach between Newt and Pelosi.

darwin-t on October 21, 2009 at 8:07 PM

He singlehandedly destroyed the CONGRESSIONAL conservative movement.

JohnGalt23 on October 21, 2009 at 4:31 PM

The same person(s) who advised this guy.

ya2daup on October 21, 2009 at 8:20 PM

I think it is hillarious that all the people standing behind her are for her opponent. How embarrassing for her. She truly looks uncomfortable. It was a BIG mistake to speak in front of Hoffman’s campaign office.

Take a good look at this image standing in front of the Hoffman office.

SHE IS THE NATIONAL GOP.

She is a disgusting wretch of a political hack and I don’t even live in her state.

NEWT…….hope you and the GOP in DC are happy with this disgrace.

In case you feel like telling the GOP national what you think with your pocketbook.

If it’s a woman, ugly, dyke-y and camera-loving in spite of it all, it’s a liberal. Am I the only one to notice this?

leftnomore on October 21, 2009 at 8:47 PM

Seriously two questions after watching the video.

1. Is she using a teleprompter?

2. Is she seriously not wearing a bra?

PappyD61 on October 21, 2009 at 8:48 PM

OMG this woman is a beyond stupid. I wonder if Newt knows anything about this toad. If she is the face(s) of the new repub party, this country is royally screwed. lol

lovingmyUSA on October 21, 2009 at 8:56 PM

I’m sending this video to Newt–hope he sees it.

lovingmyUSA on October 21, 2009 at 8:57 PM

Is the the woman in this picture the fat, ugly aunt of the woman who’s picture appears on the main page with the story about the police call?

Geez.

Hucklebuck on October 21, 2009 at 9:00 PM

This is the GOP candidiate, the one that Newt is endorsing?

No wonder we are so farked!

Keyyy-rist almighty, can we have some serious GOP candidates, please?

Instead of RINO farm animals…

The sexism in this thread is nothing new. I just find it distasteful and ineffective.

That you are not offended does raise the comments out of the gutter. That you are unwilling or unable to detect the increase in genuinely offensive behavior, from the right, in recent months is typical of many on the right lately.

interesting article from the politico that ties in with this(how the gop is ‘trembling’ from the cry of the conservatives…..
‘The challenge is to tap into the richest source of energy in the party — the disgust of grass-roots conservative activists with President Barack Obama and their hunger for a full-throated attack on his agenda — without coming off to the broader public as cranky and extreme.’

Rest of article here…

TheVer on October 22, 2009 at 8:28 AM

The longer this goes on and the more dreadful ‘mistakes’ Dede Scozzafave makes campaigning the worse it makes any person or organization supporting her look. It calls into question the judgment of the people who decided she was the most likely person to win an election. It makes any person who receives a donation request from the local GOP or the RNC nervous about the quality of candidates they will support.

None of this affair makes me think the people in the Infrastructure have learned the real lesson of the last couple elections. I suspect we will see more arguments on the net and TV and print that the Republicans need to not listen to the shrill cries of conservatives and reach out to the middle once more.
