Good news: Time for another celebrity ObamaCare ad

posted at 5:34 pm on October 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

I don’t know, actually. Does Heather Graham still qualify as a celebrity? We’re a long, long way from “Austin Powers”, my friends. Regardless, this spot and its hosannas to competition — from MoveOn, no less — cry out for parody even more than that Will Ferrell abomination did. Keep the track-meet motif and simply have Public Option pull out a tire iron and kneecap the other racers mid-stride, just like all those nice Democrats who’ve been caught on tape burbling about single-payer would like. Too simple? No problem: Have Public Option’s coach, Individual Mandate, leap in from the sidelines and wield the tire iron instead. Too wonky for SNL, admittedly, but just right for the ‘Net.

CNN has support for the public option now at 61 percent, incidentally. Gallup? 50/46, within the margin of error. How lucky do you feel about those midterms?

Roller Girl thinks this sorry piece of work is a way to get more movie work. Unfortunately no one is going to pay any attention to her unless she grabs her roller skates and birthday suit and promotes the pubic plan!

CNN has support for the public option now at 61 percent, incidentally.

that is one interesting poll they conducted. from the same poll:
Favor bill even if did not include public option 18%
Oppose public option 38%

56% really do not seem to like public option,
but 61% support public option. What ?

runner on October 21, 2009 at 6:38 PM

If they wanted to make Roller Girl effective in this ad,they should have just shown that certain special scene from Boogie Nights. ;)

Lance Murdock on October 21, 2009 at 6:38 PM

Hey! Let’s have a public option football team to compete with those NFL fat cats.

Bear in mind that Government team will be making the rules and can change them any time it wants. And it doesn’t have to follow those rules if it doesn’t want to.

Additonally, all the Refs are on the payroll of the public team and any points the NFL gets can be taken away at any time.

Sounds like a great game, no?

RadClown on October 21, 2009 at 6:39 PM

Very strange. At the start of the race, Public Option clearly has a huge lead, while the Insurance Companies remove various pieces of clothing and can’t even get across the start line very quickly.

By the end of the clip, the Insurance Companies have caught up to Public Options, and they all run in a line.

Perhaps that is a dramatization of how inefficient the Government will run the Public Option?

A few more paces and the Insurance Companies will be well ahead of Public Option!

kutabeach on October 21, 2009 at 6:41 PM

I think Tonya Harding would have been a better choice for this video, since “Public Option” is like taking a tire iron to the private sector’s kneecaps.

EasyEight on October 21, 2009 at 6:48 PM

“Adding comments has been disabled for this video.”

Heh.

Django on October 21, 2009 at 6:52 PM

Comment I left on digg about this:

The analogy is fundamentally flawed.

The runners would all be on separate tracks because of the ban on interstate commerce.

And there would be a LOT of runners. Not just a few big ones.

Lift the ban on interstate commerce and let’s see how a public option turns out.

foucaultsvac on October 21, 2009 at 7:04 PM

A real analogy:

All the companies are world class sprinters
“Public Option” is a bloated corpulent blob
PO shackles the legs of all the insurance companies
At the sound of the gun only “Public Option” is able to wallow down the track to victory.

The Mafia likes the “competition” model, too.

As long as all competitors eventually succumb to the Mob’s competitive
“offer” to “stay healthy” and “play ball”.

None of the government’s competitors can both legally extort and print money.

Which makes a mockery of the “competition” claim.

As most Obama proclamations turn out to be trite.

Y’all know your movies! Now I have to go to video club to rent a third movie, I just was gonna go for Twilight. Why? Cause I am the only chick in the universe who has not seen it.

Wanna keep up with the teens :D

ProudPalinFan on October 21, 2009 at 7:25 PM

I have seen very few ads, on either side, in my media market.

These stories are rather silly. Where is this being shown, anyway?

In my version, Public Option simply sprays the field with a TEC, and takes her shirt off to reveal a “Single Payer” shirt underneath.

iceman1960 on October 21, 2009 at 7:44 PM

Competition is as American as apple pie. Public Option is not competition. The populace is suffering from a lack of employment Dinglebarry and your congressional minions.

Solve that problem first!

jack herman on October 21, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Didn’t Heather Graham do Anger Management?

Cr4sh Dummy on October 21, 2009 at 8:04 PM

Heather, Honey……

YOU’RE AN ACTRESS!

You didn’t major in business administration, or economics, or mathmatics, or political science, or engineering, or pharmacology, or etc., etc., etc.,….

You studied how to dress up and play people you’re not, parroting dialog written for you by a team of screenwriters.

You have absolutely NO credibility.

BUT…. you do have a very pretty face.

bannedbyhuffpo on October 21, 2009 at 8:15 PM

The only way this “ad” would’ve been non-self-ridiculing is if Michael Moore was in that role Heather Graham’s ruined: public option.

Graham’s “purdy” (quoting an earlier commenter), of course, but the public option concept is certainly not, not in any way except as bloat, usery, tin-foil-hattery, dark comedy, destruction of Capitalism event, and more. Thus, Michaal Moore in that role would make the “ad” “work”.

Lourdes on October 21, 2009 at 8:22 PM

And what, exactly, was the point of that comedic insert photosphopping of Graham standing on her head and looped around like a pretzel?

I laughed aloud at that. It makes the “ad” an utter parody of itself.

Lourdes on October 21, 2009 at 8:23 PM

CNN has support for the public option now at 61 percent, incidentally. Gallup? 50/46, within the margin of error. How lucky do you feel about those midterms?

Note the specifics:

(1.) CNN poll is a poll of LEFTWING opinion;
thus, 61 percent of the Leftwing supports “public option” at least as to whatever Leftwingers participate in CNN polls;

and,

(2.) Gallup shows a whopping 46% of likely-Leftwingers participating in Gallup polls DON’T support the public option (impressive, meaningful, derogatory about that option) — which I identify here as Leftwingers because most who participate in Gallup polls are, indeed, “Moderate/Independent” to “Left”; from that “46%” there’s likely no more than about 7-10% who may qualify as on the Right.

We’ve seen time and time again that Rasmussen is the most reliable poll source.

Lourdes on October 21, 2009 at 8:28 PM

But, the elections — 2010 and 2012 — should not be assumed to be won by the Middle and Right. We should not at all stop the pressure nor let up on the pressure to get the Leftwing out of public office wherever possible. The Left continues to scheme and brood and isn’t going to go out without a lot of trashing in the process.

Lourdes on October 21, 2009 at 8:30 PM

competition Like 100 billion into GM and Chrysler and now they equal ford?

seven on October 21, 2009 at 8:37 PM

I’ll remind myself to keep running by every movie Heather Graham’s in.

yoda on October 21, 2009 at 8:37 PM

BUT…. you do have a very pretty face.

Face? She has a face?

Aviator on October 21, 2009 at 8:39 PM

LOL! Oh, these statists kill me. If the “public option” had been a thousand-pound chick wheeled in on a flatbed and cracking a whip ordering everyone around, that would have been an appropriate metaphor.

evergreen on October 21, 2009 at 8:47 PM

At the start of the “race,” Public Option is way out in front. By the end of the ad, even the fat asses have caught her. More true than they think.

The Public Option sounds great and gets out to a fast start. Once reality is applied and the true nature of the PO starts to weigh it down, even the fat asses can compete.

They should have “catastrophic coverage,” HSA, “choose your own coverage options,” and “I choose no coverage” and match them up to PO. She won’t have a chance.

Mallard T. Drake on October 21, 2009 at 8:48 PM

Nice, so these type of “political” ads and appearances are the new Love Boat.

reaganaut on October 21, 2009 at 9:09 PM

Heh, well I started to watch it, but couldn’t finish.

I want a public option for movies, so I can only pay $1.50 to see them, and spend no more than $2.50 on popcorn and soda.

Those fat cat movie stars are just making obscene profits.

reaganaut on October 21, 2009 at 9:12 PM

Oh Heather,

BTW, You didn’t EARN your looks.

They were GIVEN to you by your parents.

It’s “genetics”, honey.

Something you probably never heard of.

bannedbyhuffpo on October 21, 2009 at 9:16 PM

I got as far as “insurance companies” and decided why waste 1:01. Another “corporations are bad” concoction. Please folks, do like I do and do not spend another dime on a movie. These lefty elitists thrive on our capitalist market and then wish to destroy it. These people are the Kilimanjaro of hypocrisy.

Alfresco on October 21, 2009 at 9:40 PM

Man in “Public Option” Track Shirt starts the race with several tax payers carrying him instead of him running.

As the traditional insurance companies speed up he shouts “Raise the taxes!” and more taxpayers are forced out by IRS agents to help him keep up.

Fade to black and cut.

Dash on October 21, 2009 at 9:48 PM

I actually found myself laughing at this video, not with it.

nater1976 on October 21, 2009 at 9:54 PM

The Public Option….is a dumb blonde!

Jeff from WI on October 21, 2009 at 10:18 PM

did anyone notice, she still lost the race at the end anyway. If I was a betting man I would say the inside runner beat her quite comfortably

wakey74 on October 21, 2009 at 10:25 PM

The Public OPtion needs a bit more sun. Her coloring looks like Casper the ghost.

Jeff from WI on October 21, 2009 at 10:43 PM

Glad you told me who she is—I really didn’t know. I still only know her name, cannot recall ever seeing anything she was in.

jeanie on October 21, 2009 at 10:44 PM

The fat guy, (insurance company) wins!!

Jeff from WI on October 21, 2009 at 10:44 PM

This is lame. The only thing it says that might appeal to a viewer is the lie about a 70% approval rating.

shick on October 21, 2009 at 10:51 PM

Fine example of the mental illness that we call leftism.

The private sector is fat and out of shape, and the government is lean and beautiful. As exemplified by the Post Office or the DMV.

And “competition” means taking other people’s money and making new rules so you win no matter how badly you do.

Afraid we’ve reached a critical mass of idiocy here.

Merovign on October 21, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Hmmm. It looks like from the video that they all catch the ‘Public Option’ at the end. I guess the message is that the public option is so slow and sucky that even all those losers are better and faster. Even with that huge lead she starts with.

TechieNotTrekkie on October 21, 2009 at 11:25 PM

A few more paces and the Insurance Companies will be well ahead of Public Option!

Actually, I think the guy to her right IS ahead of her before they even put up the text.

Axeman on October 22, 2009 at 5:32 AM

Heather Graham’s finest work since Rollergirl.

CarolynM on October 22, 2009 at 6:34 AM

The only thing that really disgusts me about the vid is that the guy wasted a perfectly good hamburger. What was the message?

moyeti on October 22, 2009 at 7:00 AM

In what universe is the federal bureaucracy any one of (a) Heather Graham; (b) pretty; (c) skinny; (d) not lazy; (e) able to run faster than a statue?

Insurers have issues, but Heather Graham? MoveOn would have had better luck casting the fat Scottish Mike Meyers.

DailyDanet on October 22, 2009 at 7:42 AM

at the beginning it almost looked like she was gonna pull a Roller Girl squat and gobble on the lineup…

max1 on October 22, 2009 at 9:40 AM

This add is not about the “public option”. What it is about is that “Corporate profit is a sin” and it implies that our government is lean and agile. Both a complete farce.

MichiganMatt on October 22, 2009 at 10:27 AM

That clip is rife with distortion, fabrication, misleading claims, and lies!

In other words, it is a typical left wing, liberal piece of crap piece of propaganda.

1) The problem with health insurance is that government prevents competition. A government run health care system will eliminate any and all competition.

2) The insurance companies are mainly non profit. They barely make a few percent increase per year.

3) More than 80% of medical insurance clients are happy with their insurance plans and don’t want government interfering.

Nevertheless,

Aren’t we fortunate that we have those brilliant minds of Hollywood celebrities and MoveOn.org to enlighten us in the path we must follow?

William2006 on October 22, 2009 at 10:54 AM

The “public option” entry in the race should be a fat DMV worker.

Or a postman with a gun.
