Gallup: First-year quarterly drop in Obama’s approval rating one of the biggest in decades
posted at 9:47 pm on October 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not much Hope but a whole lot of Change. ObamaCare plus stagnant unemployment plus dithering on Afghanistan makes for a magical brew indeed, my friends.
In fact, the 9-point drop in the most recent quarter is the largest Gallup has ever measured for an elected president between the second and third quarters of his term, dating back to 1953. One president who was not elected to his first term — Harry Truman — had a 13-point drop between his second and third quarters in office in 1945 and 1946…
More generally, Obama’s 9-point slide between quarters ranks as one of the steepest for a president at any point in his first year in office. The highest is Truman’s 19-point drop between his third and fourth quarters, followed by a 15-point drop for Gerald Ford between his first and second quarters. The largest for an elected president in his first year is Bill Clinton’s 11-point slide between his first and second quarters.
When you think about the last three months and how far his support on major issues has deteriorated, it’s almost miraculous that he’s above 50 percent. The public must simply adore him on a personal level. What has he done for anyone lately? He got a health-care bill that’ll end up being completely rewritten through the Finance Committee and he got Iran to kinda sorta maybe agree to a nuclear deal that’s really just a bunch of hype annnnd … anything else? Winning the Nobel counts as something, I guess, even though a heavy majority thinks he didn’t deserve it. Oh — he chaired that meeting at the UN about ridding the world of nuclear weapons. So there you go. You’re welcome.
Actually, here’s some good news: North Dakota’s showing a net gain of 1,800 jobs since the stimulus was passed in February. Follow the link for the bad news.

I’m curious what happens to these bailout firm people who have million dollar homes when their pay is cut to $200,000.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125615172396299535.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_LEFTTopStories
I know, no one is probably weeping for them, but if your pay was cut to 10% of what you make, how long would you be able to sustain anything close to your lifestyle? Talk about trickle down, this is like shutting off the whole valve! And what happens to all that money NY would make off of the taxes on these people. Weren’t they supposed to tax the wealthy making more than $250,000? Seems they just shrank that pool by a whole bunch. Don’t these people think anything through? (Other than wanting to destroy the whole country, of course.)

Unfortunately relocating is not in the cards however, whatever I ultimately wind up with, travel is not a problem.

What scares me the most, is that not just he is on a political suicide mission. I find it hard to believe, although it is playing out in front of me, that they can make the rest go down that road as well. What I do not get is how the sheeple following it cannot see that the loudest ones talking have already gamed the system and made their money, their worry list is short indeed.

I don’t think it’s a miracle. There is just some weird disconnect going on. The man should be in the 30s. Maybe there are enough who think it is still partly Bush’s fault or something. Maybe some aren’t paying attention yet. As time goes on I just can’t see how his numbers can stay up. He really is a failure.

Don’t worry, Oberleutnant Obama will find change you can believe in:
1 Government seizure of the internet will wipe out the pesky bloggers.
2 Government seizure of talk radio will take care of Rush, etal.
3 Government seizure of Fox will leave only Liberal lapdogs on television.
4 Government takeover of medicine will take of “enemies of the state” (old people and unaborted babies).
5 Government control of the environment will lead to total control of business and personal freedoms.
6 Government sissification of the military will lead to politically correct martinets who can stifle political domestic dissent.Foreign wars will be unnecessary anyway since former enemies will be “allies” (until they nuke us.)
7 An Obama packed Supreme Court will obviate the need for costly and time-consuming elections. Why have an election anyway when 5 liberals can overturn the results-and the Constitution?
So you thought “our guy” was in trouble. Think again.

At some point, whether we are there yet or not, Obama’s influence on the health of the U.S. as a whole has to be examined.
As of now, he has accomplished unprecedented debt…..economic stagnation and international weakness not seen since the 1970s….a moral ambiguity that defeats the leftist media’s ability to excuse…..and a huge bag of promises that he can’t even hope to make good on within the next 3 years.
He’s a media creation. A wax POTUS. He wilts with any sign of disapproval or criticism. The nation will suffer along with his ego…

Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, and in the colder parts of the country, we’ll be seeing the home heating bills soon. Obama will always have 15% from blacks and another 20% or so hard left and somewhat hard left. But this economy is going NOWHERE. It’s on life support, and Obama is just buying off voter outrage by extending unemployment benefits and all of his other band-aids.
I’m just hoping that a grim set of holidays, a lot of unhappy families, and a cold winter create enough outrage to cause gridlock in DC until we can sweep Dems out of purple districts and states in 2010.
We’ll see.
Thanks, swing voters. You thought you voted for the nice black man next door. You stupid idiots didn’t realize you voted the radical next door.
The GOP is the party of No? It beats being the party of O, maybe I should say the party of Mao.
BuckeyeSam on October 22, 2009 at 12:37 AM
When Rush says that the economic and political decisions, and results of this Admin, are intentional………he is 100% correct.
This Admin wants to reinvent not just the upper, but the middle class as well, as subserviant castes who work for the government rather than their communities. A new nation of everyone seeking obeisance from the federl central government versus looking out for their own interests. The two become one and the same.
Every American poorer, more dependant, and less free is a scorecard for this POTUS who envisions a socialist, controlled economy doling-out money in a more PC and regulated system to fix the differences between the “winners” and “losers”….
I don’t care whether I am employed or not……..that SOB will never affect my or my family’s American work ethic or ability to fight off his big government schemes.
He will pass.
JoeinTX on October 22, 2009 at 12:46 AM
Well put BuckeyeSam. Those heating bills will get scary to alot of people but sooner or later the handouts are going to have to stop. Let us hope that the party of O is in a death spiral.
Dire Straits on October 22, 2009 at 12:46 AM
Obama is simply unsustainable…….much like the current Congress.
They cannot continue to exist with any hope of prosperity or continued American Exceptionalism. They do not coincide with one another. They are diametrically disposed.
2010 elections will find us, thankfully, with a less Obama friendly Congress. Wheat from the chaff………surely assuring us without an upstate Scozzafava GOP pseudo-win. What the Hell in Gingrich thinking these days? Seriously?
That Congress will also begin to dis-absolve the previous one’s actions and can only be helped by further delegations.
There aren’t enough serious, mindless, socialist libs in this country to allow them to continue………too many honest everyday people who have to work for that.
JoeinTX on October 22, 2009 at 12:57 AM
This kind of news infuriates Obama’s supporters and bring on charges of racism, but they should really be blaming themselves for backing a candidate who had no executive experience to speak of and very little in government, for not vetting his background carefully (largely, because they didn’t consider Marxist radicalism to be a negative) and for overhyping him as the great black hope. They assumed that all you have to do is get control of the levers of power and then you can do whatever you like without being accountable to anybody.
I’d like to think that Americans will learn a lesson from this experience about electing naive ideologues as President, but I remember The Man from Plains with the toothy grin and hunting all over town for a gas station that had gas for sale.

“The public must simply adore him on a personal level.”
Many moons ago, a troll spouted her unwavering support for the re-election of Obama in ’12 because she believed he was a great role model of a father. That was her criteria plain and simple. She adored him for this reason only, didn’t care about his non-existent experience, didn’t give a regard for the massive, explosive spending, reckless and naive foreign policy, lying at the drop of a hat, 7th-grade level history, math, geography, current events, etc. No, no, no. The lack of knowledge didn’t phase her one iota.
What mattered was that he seemed to be a responsible parent,
thus deserves re-election.
betsyz on October 22, 2009 at 3:24 AM
Folks, please wake up and smell the roses. Obama cannot be judged by the performance of previous presidents:
1)Obama’s ultimate goal is to impose a totalitarian dictatorship on America with him being President for life like his buddies Castro and Chavez. If he cannot achieve that legally (repeal of the 22nd Amendment) he means to achieve it illegally by declaring marital law eventually, a bill if you remember was passed during the Bush administration giving the POTUS unlimited powers; then he plans to declare the Constitution null and void.
2)Along with #1 Obama will instruct his armies to seize all private guns to prevent dissident uprisings from occurring
3)Obama couldn’t care less about polls except the members of his own party do, for fear they cannot be re-elected. So by 2010 he has to have #1 in place or ACORN placed so well to guarantee the Dems a new massive majority in Congress
4)Don’t be fooled by the subterfuges: the elimination of Sarah Palin is his number one goal. And by any means possible.
5)By re-imposing the fairness doctrine (or its cousin) Obama wants to eliminate the opportunity any right-wing opposition to thwart his plans
6)Along with #5 once Obama takes over the Internet and Facebook there will be no way for millions who are opposed to Obama to communicate with each other; he then can pick us off one by one
7)Obama means to take the unemployed youth and place them in a national civilian army whose purpose is to aid the military and intimidate private citizens
8)Eventually Obama will set up internment camps; if Sarah Palin is not already dead, she will be in one and so will Rush Limbaugh if he hasn’t escaped to New Zealand.
9)Obama will enlist the aid of Russia and other communist nations to come to his assistance to keep the American people in check
10)Obama will eliminate any reference to the Christian religion once he gains full power and the only Messiah America will know from then is “The Anointed One” Barack Hussein Obama mmm mmm mmm.

As a pool geek, I track the Rasmussen data, as they survey LIKELY voters (compared to most published surveys, which canvass all adults). Yesterday, Obama’s “strongly approve” rating was 27% vs his “strongly disapprove” score of 40%, the lowest score of this presidency. At some point, these poll numbers will be noticed by people who have to run for office next year.

Sorry, meant to say as a “poll” geek, not “pool.” I pretty suck at swimming.
johnboy on October 22, 2009 at 7:53 AM
How much “power” does Obama have over these folks? He can’t force them to work at these firms and how many of them (that are rain makers for their divisions) do you think will stick around and tolerate a 90% pay cut? Not many – think overseas employment, or retirement. I would hazard that there just might be a reason that most of these folks make that kind of money and it’s most likely b/c of what they bring to the table. Obama’s actions simply run these companies aground faster in his attempt to gain populist approval but he’ll get populist outrage when these “bailed out” firms go under or need another bailout. He’s setting himself up for a major fail here.
volnation on October 22, 2009 at 7:57 AM
Supposedly that is why the VA and NJ elections are being considered as a referendum on the filthy lying coward’s performance. I’m not sure I completely buy it but if Bob McDonnell wins big then it may raise some concern with squishy politicians who think the White House will give them political cover if they vote contrary to their constituencies wishes.

These polls are blatantly dishonest and amount to paid political advertising! If these travesty’s are allowed to stand then the left will use their results to de-legitimize the inevitable conservative gains in 2010!
