Breaking: New ACORN video from Philadelphia

posted at 12:45 pm on October 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Surprise! ACORN and its defenders, including the media, have tried to argue that the organization was not totally corrupt because James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles got tossed out of its Philadelphia office.  Media Matters even went so far as to air an interview with ACORN office director Katherine Conway-Russell that asserted that she refused to help them, called the cops, and threw them out.  Big Government has now released some of the video of that visit — and it appears that a lot of media outlets will have some retractions to write this afternoon:

Big Government will air the full, unedited video and audio streams later today or tomorrow, in order to demonstrate the poor performance of the media in this story.  Bertha Lewis and ACORN will be shown to have lied, and outlets like the Washington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer will have to scrape the egg off of their faces for accepting their word at face value.

At Western CPAC, Andrew Breitbart described himself as a “merry prankster” in the media.  He’s certainly got reason for merriment today.

The more Acorn gets investigated, the closer it gets to Obama personally.

I don’t think so. I think it’s about as relevant as the story about Hillary being on the Wall-Mart board.

AnninCA on October 21, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Oh puh-leeze. You’ve conveniently forgotten what Captain Ed posted here on Hot Air a month ago.

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/09/22/john-fund-lets-not-forget-obamas-acorn-connections/

Mr. Obama took great pains to act as if he barely knew about Acorn. In fact, his association goes back almost 20 years. In 1991, he took time off from his law firm to run a voter-registration drive for Project Vote, an Acorn partner that was soon fully absorbed under the Acorn umbrella. The drive registered 135,000 voters and was considered a major factor in the upset victory of Democrat Carol Moseley Braun over incumbent Democratic Senator Alan Dixon in the 1992 Democratic Senate primary.

Mr. Obama’s success made him a hot commodity on the community organizing circuit. He became a top trainer at Acorn’s Chicago conferences. In 1995, he became Acorn’s attorney, participating in a landmark case to force the state of Illinois to implement the federal Motor Voter Law. That law’s loose voter registration requirements would later be exploited by Acorn employees in an effort to flood voter rolls with fake names.

Del Dolemonte on October 21, 2009 at 6:06 PM

Exactly. Obama is hip-deep in Acorn. Obama helped Acorn, Acorn helped him. Acorn is corrupt, which means Obama has corrupt associations, and strongly implies Obama is corrupt. Obama moves to the city with the most corrupt political machine in the country to get into politics.

Pay-to-play scandals, lots of help from mobsters like Rezko, backroom deals to get rid of political opponents in primary races. It’s time to give up the pretense that Obama is untouched by the corruption all around him.

That’s gotta leave a mark!

No, no. You don’t understand. Obama said he never even HEARD of “…WALNUT, um, er, CASHEW, or whatever those crazy guys on Fox keep talking about. This isn’t important to America so shut the Hell up about it already!”

And that makes it all OK.

What’s up with the date “2005 7 21″ on the video?

Ira on October 21, 2009 at 7:11 PM

As has been noted before, Hannah is HOT. I know that isn’t the jist of the story but after looking at a photo of Kathleen Sebelius on Drudge report or thinking about Helen Thomas, this is a most welcome eye salve. You guys are great. May God protect you from the vermin around you.

BTW, ever heard of the “Shift” key?

What’s up with the date “2005 7 21″ on the video?

The date on the cam corder was not set correctly. Appears that way on other videos.

Franklyn on October 21, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Why is what this ACORN girl saying edited out? Was that supposed to be that way? I can hear all but her voice.

Sultry Beauty on October 21, 2009 at 8:30 PM

**UPDATE 2:24 PM EST** We muted the audio of the ACORN employees on the video released today due to ACORN’s legal attack upon us. We call upon ACORN to state publicly now that it has no objection to the public release of any its employees oral statements to us. If they are interested in the truth, why wouldn’t they do so?

If they dont check ids before voting, like some people want to have happen. Then yes the dead can vote.

Greed on October 21, 2009 at 2:30 PM

Anyone who believes the dead can’t and don’t vote is woefully ignorant of Democratic politics in America. Kennedy won? Bwahahahahahaha!

Red State State of Mind on October 21, 2009 at 8:48 PM

I think Andrew has move the target to the Media itself now. The ACORN name has been tarnished and is near toxic. This release was timed to embarress the MSM.

WashJeff on October 21, 2009 at 1:01 PM

and the WH. The beauty here is that just as the WH is attacking Fox and pressuring the MSM to avoid their stories, they are stuck having to defend or post retractions in response to a Fox News story. It’s a prime situation to publicly force the alphabet networks to choose sides, Journalism or Propaganda mouth piece.

Fighton03 on October 21, 2009 at 8:51 PM

Situation normal. ACORN, Media Matters, the Obama Administration are criminal enterprises that need to be destroyed.

BottomLine5 on October 21, 2009 at 9:04 PM

Hey! Looky here…here’s one of those Obama voters who changed their mind.

If I blog on the lefty blog, they don’t believe me. And if I blog on the righty blogs, they don’t believe me.

Here’s my voting record. Straight Democrat my entire life. I swear, I never voted for Republican dog-catcher.

But I did vote McCain/Palin.

Now, this was an identity shift on a big level. But it turned out to be very easy.

But, no, I was never for Obama. I voted for experience, even if I disagreed with McCain on a lot of issues.

I sensed we were crashing. We needed leadership.

Obama is an amateur.

AnninCA on October 21, 2009 at 5:47 PM

Hey there, AnninCA. While I may not agree with everything you say (which no one ever agrees completely with anyone else), I will extend a hand of friendship and say welcome over to our side, or at least part way. :) There’s always room for more here. And besides, some differences can make for a lively, spirited debate. At least you know how to have a decent conversation, which many leftists can’t really seem to do without descending to immature insults. :) Welcome, AnninCA!

RICO investigations! NOW!!!

Oh, and, Obama can no more disown ACORN than he could his own grandma…

TN Mom on October 21, 2009 at 10:00 PM

I “called out” my Senator today (just takin’ after the leadership) regarding a RICO ACORN investigation.

Repeat your calls. Make them pay now, or pay later. It’ll hurt a whole lot less now than later.

Hey, be glad there’s a video to view at all after all they/we went through this morning to get it up somewhere and keep it up for more than five minutes at a time.

UnderstandingisPower on October 21, 2009 at 10:49 PM

judging by the amount of attention it gets, acorn is clearly by far the most important issue of our times for conservatives.

sesquipedalian on October 21, 2009 at 12:52 PM

Absolutely. Can’t face the other problems when we’re being run by a thugocracy.

Check this out:

http://biggovernment.com/2009/10/21/barack-obamas-working-families-party-tax-the-rich-and-give-it-back-to-the-poor/

Seems ACORN isn’t just in trouble over the James/Hannah thing. Also, isn’t it odd that Obama knows nothing about them and yet was the candidate for their Working Families Party in NY? Do parties like that normally nominate someone who doesn’t at all agree with them?

BlueStateBilly on October 22, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Peter Dreier at the LA Times says these attacks on ACORN are a threat to the Republic or something:

October 22, 2009

A healthy democracy requires that the voices of the poor be heard in the corridors of power. That’s what ACORN has been facilitating, more successfully than any other community group, since the 1970s. If ACORN’s enemies are able to defeat this feisty group, it won’t just be the organization’s 500,000 members who will suffer. Our democracy will suffer too.

No surprises here. This is the same “good for the cause” mentality that kept a drunken killer in office for decades after his ciminal acts. (see: Kennedy, Ted)

I’m done with all these stories about what someone said at some academic gathering.
I saw an article about how McCain quoted Mao, too. LOL*
Good grief. Great people are often quoted, regardless of their politics.
