Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on October 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

I blame TOTUS for this fumble at Texas A&M:

I know you’re busy. I know that sometimes, even if you don’t like to admit it, service can feel a bit like a chore.

But if Mallory Myers can repeat last year’s success and get more than 12,000 students to perform more than 20 — a hundred — let me try that again — 1,200 — it’s so much that it boggles the mind — (laughter and applause) — Mallory, 12,000 students and 1,200 service activities in this community –- (applause) — if Mallory can do that, then surely you can round up a few friends to volunteer in your community too.

But just to be fair, let’s also give Obama some credit for what followed:

If President Bush could fly 58 combat missions when he was younger than many of you here today –- and keep on fighting even after he was shot down and nearly captured by the enemy –- then surely you can keep going when your service project gets a little tough. (Laughter.) Don’t you think? (Applause.)

Was TOTUS on a union break?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Actually George Soros was busy crashing another country’s currency.

Comparing military service to his Hitler Youth forced “volunteerism”? Now that’s a stretch, It’s also an insult to our (volunteer) military.

pdigaudio on October 20, 2009 at 8:10 AM

After trashing Bush for two years now, using his name to gain favor with a Texas audience is hardly reason to give him credit. It’s just Obama being opportunistic, once again.

TXUS on October 20, 2009 at 8:15 AM

Maybe after that sentence about Bush flying 58 combat missions, Obama should have asked if any in the audience would like to volunteer for their country by being in the military service. Sounds like a good request to me.

texasconserv on October 20, 2009 at 8:16 AM

As someone who talks a lot in front of people, what these sorts of stumbles tell me is that he doesn’t have a clue what he’s saying. He’s reading and not even thinking about what he’s saying. That’s how little he cares about the words he spouts and the audiences he dispenses his ‘wisdom’ to. Worse than pitiful.

Comparing AmeriCorps to Hitle Yourth? Now that’s a stretch. And, were you not so eager to take offense, you’d note that, to the extent that there was a direct comparison, it was that military service in war was a vastly more challenging sacrifice than domestoc volunteerism.

At about 0:22,Obama unexpectently slams into a number iceberg,

then at 0:22 to O:24,he’s grasping his thoughts, praying he regains his thoughts,

then,at 0:27 to O:29,he thinks,hes got the words,and then
he lost loses them once again,

then at 0:29 to 0:34, he realizes, thats not the words,

and finally at 0:34,he smirks, realizing that he screwed up,real good!! (Snark).

We need to develop a conservative leader now for 2016. I figure 2010 and 2012 will be a inter-party battle for conservative values. 2016 will be when conservatives will gain control of the executive branch.

Not that my comment has anything to do with this speaking event, but I\’ve always thought that Mr. Obama spent those 20 years in Rev. Wright\’s Inculcation Camp learning how to \’mesmerize\’ an audience. There\’s a psychological game going on when it comes to the preachin\’ style of Rev. Wright and his audience … the same as that between the Pres and his devotees. Since most of the MSM and the President\’s other fans have never set foot in a church with a pastor \’on fire\’ like Rev. Wright, they don\’t recognize that formula at work when the Orator in Chief begins to bray.

If President Bush could fly 58 combat missions when he was younger than many of you here today –- and keep on fighting even after he was shot down and nearly captured by the enemy –- then surely you can keep going when your service project gets a little tough. I just hate him more when he throws these teeny bones to conservatives thinking that by complimenting Bush on something that he’ll soften the conservatives hard views on his progressive fascism.

This scumbag will never earn my trust or my favor because there is only one way for him to do that now, he needs to admit what his progressive fascists are/were planning for this country, correctly admit that it’s WRONG, and turn his words AND actions around away from this progressive fascism.

Only after I see he’s done this and he’s begun to fight against the America hating liberal fascist progressives in government now will I soften my stance toward him. Until then, this pig can go to hell in a flaming shopping cart.

My guess is no. My wife’s aunts from MA came down to visit for a week and I showed them around campus. They are very pro-Obama so I had to mind my manners while they were here, but they have the same outlook on the military as Obama. Which is violence never solves anything and we should just talk our problems out.

What amazed them the most was that both worked at the University of Massachusetts before they retired and couldn’t believe how pro-military the entire campus was. I showed them the Medal of Honor winners that are proudly displayed in Rudder Tower, the Corps of Cadets Museum that shows how Aggies have fought bravely for our country. I even told her one of my favorite Patton quotes:

Give me an army of West Point cadets and I will win a battle. Give me a handful of Texas Aggies and I will win a war

Perhaps he might have seen the verse hanging on the side of the Tri-gon (Military headquarters here on campus) “Honor…the Guiding Star”. Or even better he might be introduced to the Aggie code of honor. You don’t need 1,405 pages to understand it. It is a simple sentence: “An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal no tolerates those who do”. The world would be a better place if there were more Aggie politicians

Why is this buffoon on the wrong side of everything that is good and on the side of evil?
Honduras? Iranian president falsely elected, we hear crickets, in Afghanistan, he trots out a team to protest the false ballot issue. WE CANNOT MEDDLE?
George Soros needs better writers for the teleprompters.

How can ANYONE believe anything this clown says?

When does he talk about the Malaise of America wearing a red sweater?

Hell, I’d be glad if we could find at least one of them in the White House or the Democratic Congressional leadership that could follow at least one of three tenets of the oath.
