It’s on: Oprah to interview Palin on eve of book launch
posted at 4:05 pm on October 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
The good news: If sales of her book were already stratospheric, this ought to put them in lunar orbit. The bad news: There’s always a chance of a Couric-esque trainwreck when the ‘Cuda goes live. All the more reason to watch if you’re a liberal, no?
Imagine the ratings. Imagine.
Sarah Palin, who was the “biggest get” of 2008, was frozen out of the Oprah show while running for vice president because Oprah was a big Barack Obama booster.
With Obama in the White House and Palin having a book to sell, she has accepted an invitation to appear on the Nov. 16 episode of Oprah.
This figures to be more than an TV show. It will be an event.
I wonder how much of the chat will be devoted to policy versus standard Oprah human drama fare. (E.g., “How hurt do you feel by Levi Johnston showing off his schwanz in Playgirl?”) If O doesn’t try to trip her up with something wonky, the left will never forgive her. Obvious topics for discussion: Death panels, women in politics, and quitting as governor. Less obvious but no less intriguing: Oprah’s decision not to have her on during the campaign and whether it was fair to accuse The One on the trail of palling around with terrorists. If she gets that question and turns it around on Oprah by wondering why she had the integrity to quit Rev. Wright’s crazy church when our fearless leader didn’t, I might endorse her on the spot.
It’s poll time. Let’s do this.

I hate to attribute evil motives to people and believe that it is a trap but I think that Sarah Palin will be well prepared. She has already been through the mill. It will be difficult to throw her a curve ball. She is a common sense lady.
ReneePA on October 20, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Sarah will do great in this interview because Sarah is genuine and obviously very smart. As to the Couric interview Sarah was going through the most vile attacks ever against a politician running for office, it was evident she not McCain was the main draw and she was doing at least two campaign stops per day, Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace were sabataging her and not letting her fight back against the smears of her and her family, Couric got help from an anti Palin political operative… That is where she was when she walked in to do the Couric interview and what set the human Sarah off mainly was Couric not accepting her answer on abortion… Things got very tense, Palin had told McCain Couric was overly hostile why give her more interviews but Schmidt and Wallace who had already decided McCain was going to lose made her go to , I think, hurt her. Palin being a team player up to that point relented but then shortly thereafter seeing the writing on the wall “went rogue”. This is why I don’t hold that interview against her… In spite of all she went through she still fought on.

If we truly support Sarah, how can we say this is a bad thing? If she can’t hold up to Oprah, then she can’t possibly hold up to a national campaign. Sarah needs to brush up on Michelle’s interview on the View when she owned them, and didn’t let Behar get a word in edgewise. She needs to brush up on how Liz Cheney owns any interview with facts. If you are so afraid that our Sarah can’t deal with Oprah, then there is “no dog in this hunt”, as us trailer trash like to say…
lovingmyUSA on October 20, 2009 at 5:46 PM
But that hoax was half-way around the world before the truth put it’s pant’s on.

Arcimedes Sarah Palin never said Africa was a country… Don’t buy into that BS!

‘SNL’ Producer: Sarah Palin ‘Most Confident Person I’ve Ever Met’
There’s video here:
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/05/10/snl-producer-sarah-palin-most-confident-person-ive-ever-met
As a side note, to whether Sarah “knew about SNL,” she once dressed up on Halloween as Tina Fey.

Which is a very good reason to go on Oprah and all these other shows.

Lets see
1. Palin WILL go to the opposing side.
2. Obama..wahh Fox is unfair.
This is only a plus for her imo
ArmyAunt on October 20, 2009 at 5:56 PM
No, it’s just the nature of all live talk shows. They essentially film continuously from commercial break to commercial break, then broadcast that footage. I’ve never heard that Oprah’s substantially different.
notropis on October 20, 2009 at 5:58 PM
Part of me would love to see her do Letterman. Not only would she be seen as more forgiving and gracious … Letterman doesn’t have a leg to stand on anymore after his affairs were exposed.
darwin on October 20, 2009 at 5:58 PM
LOL…careful King, think this one’s getting confused and excited he/she made a real friend connection. Probably letting the air out of their blow-up doll in anticipation as we speak.

I’d like to see Palin do Letterman, and when he gets too close to her, she pulls out a can of mace or a tazer and takes him to the ground.
I wonder what tune Paul Schaeffer will play while Dave is rolling on the ground? Barracuda?
portlandon on October 20, 2009 at 6:06 PM
If Oprah is rude to her, I can guarantee that Palin will be syrupy sweet and make Oprah look like an idiot. Oprah sometimes reveals her cold side to people she doesn’t like.
The other thing is that Palin probably had quite a lot of negotiating leverage. She could state the terms of the interview. Oprah would definitely go for it.

Just bad strategy, she could at least do a few warm ups with friendly media before she goes on and AFTER the book comes out so she can at leaast see how they are going to attack her.

Simon, are you lonely? Everyone gets lonely sometimes. It can’t be that much fun to come on here and make silly comments, it must get old after a while. If you’d like to talk to us genuinely with respect I guarantee you’ll find that you’ll be treated the same by us, even though we have differing political views. Its worth a try, who knows, you might actually like us and vice versa, and maybe make a few friends.
beachgirlusa on October 20, 2009 at 6:16 PM
I’d say the opposite is better. A warm-up interview would just get the talk going about how she can’t handle an interview.

Well Ben Smith at Politico has a piece up about Palin doing Oprah. You should read the comments. It has to be some of the worst I have read EVER.
portlandon on October 20, 2009 at 6:37 PM
I doubt Letterman is in the cards, and that’s just fine. There are other late night shows that get better ratings and where she will get a much warmer reception.
Hell, even Oprah herself wouldn’t go on Dave’s show for a long, long time and when she finally did, she seemed uncomfortable about it. Dave was actually on his best behavior that night and she seemed surprised by it. Believing that Letterman is a boil on the butt of humanity might be a place of common ground for Oprah and the Guv.
NoLeftTurn on October 20, 2009 at 6:40 PM
Simplesimon seriously you have a mental illness.
CWforFreedom on October 20, 2009 at 6:43 PM
A warm up interview is unnecessary. I think you are going to see a much different Sarah Palin going forward than you did during the campaign. She is in the driver’s seat now, she is steering her own message. She’ll be fine. Besides, Oprah is a stupid Obama sycophant for sure, but she is generally pretty fair when it comes to her job. I mean, come on, the woman has interviewed child molesters and murderers and managed to remain professional and keep her true feelings under wrap. She’s hardly going to come unhinged in front of Sarah Palin. Besides Sarah will charm the socks off of her like she does with everyone.
And another thing people forget: Sarah is a journalist herself by trade. She is perfectly at home in an interview setting and in front of the camera. Go watch some of her TV appearances before she was tapped as VP; the woman is a natural. It will all be fine — better than fine. Sarah will just be Sarah and except for the most hardened liberals, everybody will come away impressed.

Allah, you might? YOU MIGHT?????
You know the reason we are all gone batshit, a mess and can’t pick a good Conservative leader? Precisely because of this darn ambivalency! You know what? WE will make Obama mop HIS mess, with HIS Socialist mop.
How?
With a woman POTUS, a female VPOTUS, and a femme fatale Secretary of State. Perhaps a bunch of women can fix the hellhole Obama has put us in. Sorry PMS getting the best of me, but this is gonna be a showdown people. Sarah’s unleashed and her sister’s lifelong dream was for Sarah to be interviewed by Oprah during the campaign.
I bet that turned around reaaaalllyyy quick during/after the elections.

Sarah, you are throwing pearls before swine
bill30097 on October 20, 2009 at 7:01 PM
I would advise Sarah to avoid “The Oprah”. “The Oprah” is an Obama proselytizer. While campaigning for him in 2008, she coined the moniker “The One”. This will be an unabashed shameless hatchet job. “The Oprah” will be waiting in the tall grass ready to pounce and “The Oprah” is infinitely more clever than Katie Couric.
It not that I think Sarah can’t handle herself. It is just that “The Oprah” will inundate her with one loaded question after another causing Palin to be on constant defense. When you are constantly defending yourself it is difficult to come out looking positive. Contrast that with questions like, “Why are the evil Republicans standing in the way of progress, reform, hope, and change, Mr. President?” No matter how he answered the question he can’t help but look positive.
Palin will sell millions of books without “The Oprah”.

BigD on October 20, 2009 at 7:17 PM
Sarah Palin should ask Oprah, “Why did you support a man with close years-long ties to terrorists, radicals, and felons, who talked a good game, but had no track record of making things better for anyone in Chicago?”
While Oprah is clearly socially liberal, she seems to me to be a fiscal conservative. She is pro-America. She believes in hard work, fiscal restraint, and personal responsibility. She does not approve of those who feel entitled to other people’s money. She has been extremely successful in business, and she is generous in her charitable giving.
I think if someone got Oprah to realize that many of her core values are conservative, it would be good for America.

xblade on October 20, 2009 at 8:46 PM
Sarah Palin is doing the Nixon thing, and smartly.
Nixon was politically dead in 1962. I remember that my mother told me that she walked by his campaign at the corner of Wilshire and La Cienega in Brentwood and there were like ten guys standing around while Nixon tried to speak from a soapbox. Later, Nixon remade himself after getting crushed by Pat Brown in that campaign. Six years later he was President.
Nixon’s anti-Communist street cred was intact, nailed down by the Hiss Case and the Kitchen Debate with Kruschev. So he could move to the center and advocate a peace plan to end the Vietnam war without looking weak. No one doubted Nixon’s commitment to defend America.
Palin is in the same position as Nixon, only with far greater advantages. She is a much better communicator and has elements of the media on her side that Nixon didn’t have. Further, no one can doubt Palin’s commitment to sound fiscal policy and to two other pillars of conservative thinking: life and gun rights. Palin can move to the center to start occupying the space abandoned by Obama and the Left.
This is what she will now start doing. It will be a long process, but it is what she must do to move up. “New Nixon”, meet “New Palin”.

“…PALIN NEGATIVES ARE HUGE IN SURVEYS.”
“PERSONALLY, I THINK SHE HAS BEEN FOREVER RUINED BY NATIONAL POLITICS BY THE SMEAR CAMPAIGN UNLEASHED ON HER DURING THE ELECTION.”
COMMENT:
1)According to the Gallup poll last week Palin’s F/UF are now 40/50. As battleoflepanto1570 put it a few days ago, “Is there really anybody in America that is going to hate Palin down the road that doesn’t already hate Palin?
In other words the Palin-haters or those with PDS have already been outed by the 2008 election.
Of the 50% UF there is perhaps 15-20% who lean that way because of the smear campaign, the Couric interview, Tina Fey, her inexperience, the “quitter” meme or because Sarah is a female. The greater majority of these folks do NOT hate Sarah Palin, but simply believe ‘the jury is still out on her’. These folks are skeptics, fence-sitters, or simply not prepared to make a decision on Palin right now.
These are the folks that Palin has to win over, which is one of the primary purposes of the Oprah interview.
2)And to your point she has been irreparably harmed you must not be a student of history; there are many instances in world history that men and women have faltered, failed or been mediocre in performance and have come back to resurrect their careers or been celebrated in other activities. Think of Winston Churchill in the 1930′s who was consigned to the wilderness of the conservative backbenches and became the PM of GB during WWII and later voted the greatest Brit of the 20c, there was Frank Sinatra whose career had hit a low point who resurrected his career by winning an Oscar in For Here to Eternity, and there was Judy Garland who bottomed out in movies and resurrected her career by doing concerts and TV and finally there is Bill Clinton who was impeached and now a highly regarded speaker and elder statesman regardless of what you think of his politics.
There are many second acts in American life contrary to the opinion of F Scott Fitzgerald.
Sarah Palin may resurrect herself or she may not but neither you or I can give a definitive answer at present. A year from now perhaps.
