Rasmussen: ObamaCare support dropping again
posted at 12:55 pm on October 19, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
After the CBO gave the Baucus summary a preliminary score of being deficit-neutral, the Obama administration hoped for a reversal in widespread opposition to the ObamaCare overhaul. Rasmussen’s latest poll of likely voters shows the opposite has happened. Opposition has firmed up at 54%, while support has dropped four points over the last two weeks:
Now that the Senate Finance Committee has passed its version of health care reform, 42% of voters nationwide favor the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s down two points from a week ago and down four from the week before.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 54% are opposed to the plan.
The numbers have been remarkably stable throughout the debate. With the exception of bounces following presidential television appearances, support for the plan has stayed in a very narrow range from 41% to 46%. Currently, 24% Strongly Favor the legislative effort and 42% are Strongly Opposed.
While voters are skeptical of the plan working its way through Congress, 54% say that major changes are needed in the health care system. Sixty-one percent (61%) say it’s important for Congress to pass some reform.
In the wake of Obama’s speech to Congress, the ObamaCare effort won a brief moment of majority support, 51% to 46%. Opposition rose as high as 56% two weeks later, and had bounced around in the low- to mid-50s ever since. The current 54% is about the average since Congress went on its August recess. The 42% support rating is the second-lowest in that period, after a 41% recorded three weeks ago. Even in the summer, with all of the town hall dramas across the nation, it only got to 42% once; support mainly remained in the mid-40s.
The internals of the poll show big problems for Democrats who wind up supporting it in Congress. Both men and women oppose it, the latter by eleven points (54%/43%). Only the youngest category of voters support it; majorities in all other age demographics oppose ObamaCare by wide margins, including 18 points among thirtysomethings (58%/40%) and 20 points for fortysomethings (58%/38%). Independents still oppose it by similar margins, 56% to 38%. Among income demographics, only those earning under $20K per year support it; majorities oppose it now in every other income category.
The stat of the day from the Rasmussen internals? Government workers oppose it by a majority, 55%/43%, with 46% strongly disapproving. When statists can’t even get government workers to get on board the statist bus, they’ve really overshot their intrusion in the private sector.

First of all, thank you for your service.
No offense, but you may not want to let the Statists know who you are for any number of reasons.

Hey Hawk! Thanks for your service. Got to talk to my son in S Korea yesterday. He is doing well.
Take care of yourself.

No you stupid fuck. Hawkdriver does not think he’s above the law. He just thinks that when some lazy POS that can’t take care of himself thinks he has the right to turn another American into authorities because it deprives said snitch of something he wants, Hawkdriver just feels like maybe it’s not the same country he signed on to defend.
And you’re so God Damned Cavalier about the way you say you’ll do it. Who the fuck do you think you are? Who do any of you democrats think you are to take what I earn, for all intent and purposes, at gun point? How about if we all decide that the aches and pains we all live and work with become…just…too…much, and we start looking for that free time at home handout. Who the hell will pay for your free damn government giveaways then, huh?
BTW Jimbo, I have a fellow officer that serves in my little detachment here with recurring skin cancer. He’s sweating out a biopsy done just last week. But he here in Kandahar, working and serving. What your damn excuse?

Not surprising, my local rag (San Antonio Express-News) has been hammering on Governor Perry daily.
Which makes me love him all the more.
I’ll be first in line to vote for him in the Primary.

And I even read the crappy Atlantic Article about the POS who supposedly didn’t fry his own kids. Pack of lies.

Although the responses to the trolls are intelligent, does it not bother anyone else to try to read through the threads and get bogged down by what sounds like back and forth by first-graders on the playground? We’re the adults here, I just don’t why anyone takes their bait, gets their buttons pushed and gives them what they’re craving: attention.

My only other comment. The trolls here have become a pretty vicious lot. SimpleSimon alone bandies about the White Trash and Race Fan and Redneck meme outright and in innuendo, ad nauseam. And really, it’s hard for me to not act like I act when fighting. You always shoot back with superior firepower when you’re attacked. But you’re right. It’s no place for uncivilized talk. We know they would just as soon surrender the nation than stand up, fight, and possibly die for freedom. Trolls are only concerned with their own life, others not so much.

**BREAKING**
Thomas Lipscomb of Random House publishers has asserted that the authorship of Dreams of My Father is in open question and that all investigations into the matter should proceed further. Lipscomb asserts that Chris Anderson’s book as well as Jack Cashill’s analysis may support the theory that Mr. Obama could not have written this book by himself.

I have not read the entire thread, so this may be off base.
If we do not want to have a single payer system, we need the health insurance companies. There are different ways of saying this:
Insurance companies cannot survive “guaranteed issue” unless everyone is required to have insurance.
If we are going to have “guaranteed issue” health insurance, we have to have mandated coverage.
If you do not want to have mandated coverage, then we should not have “guaranteed issue.”
If you want to have “guaranteed issue,” then you must also have mandated coverage, unless you want the health insurance companies to disappear and end up with a single payer system.

There are other options, though. “Health status” insurance comes to mind.

I just don’t think that ratting out people who aren’t “paying their share” if/when ObamaCare is passed is going to do anything other than make you feel a bit vindicated. While I know that I am prolly preaching to the chior here on HA, I think the polling on this issue is virtually meaningless. The American public could be against this monstrosity 80/20 and the Progressive caucus will ram it through, cloak it in bureaucratic newspeak, or put in place a hair trigger so touchy that a gentle breeze would result in discharge.
The reason is simple, there is just too much riding on it, both politically and philosophically.
Politically with this much invested in it, to the point it that they have alienated their own constituencies in the bombastic libel of “evil-mongering”, “brown-shirt”, “right-wing terrorist”, NAZIS!
You cannot be much more “all-in” than that. There is no way they are thinking of folding this hand, nunh-unh, ain’t gonna happen.
And philosophically here is why, because provision of healthcare is central to the over-all game plan. In the words of Lenin, who knew something about the subject, “health care is the keystone of socialism”.
For those of you who aren’t masons, a “keystone” is the center stone at the top an arch, which equal countering pressure locks in the rest of the structure. The structure in this case is not a beautiful roman archway, but rather the essential that is required to loch in the rest of socialistic control over the populace.
For going on close 120 yrs now the Progressive movement has tethered its horse to political movement of the day to acheive power. From eugenic elitism & the KKK in the 20/30s, to eco-fascism & black liberation theology of today, whatever political mode of transport they thought would bring the White House, they’d embrace it. It is a text-book example of “ends justifies the means”, plain and simple.
After a long hiatus out side the margins since Wilson and FDR, they are not going to risk being stuck out in the political wilderness again. They mean to “lock-in” those mechanisms that assure’s their control over you and your family’s well being, to maintain power indefinately.
This is why they are moving on so many fronts so quickly, stmpkg was to manipulate the census and empower partisan vote tampering. The Food Safety Act, to keep you from growing your own food and dependant on their(food stamps) largess. Cass Sunstein also wants to OUTLAW hunting and fishing. Child Protection Act, to keep you from raing capital by selling your own property privately, like garage sales. Healthcare reform, so that when the deprivation resultant from their disasterous policies (have you seen the Joquain Valley lately?) they are enacting right and left. The worst, I’ve only caught rumor of, is coming water policies redefining what are called “navigable waters” that place draconian levels of control of the water into federal hands. Water is so central to life, that it is what is searched for on every heavenly body we inspect.
When the Progressives comtrol the water, they control ALL life!
They are putting all “stones” of their authoritarian “archway” in place, do you honestly think that they’re going to let the American people stand in the way of enacting their “keystone”?
FAT-CHANCE!
Archimedes on October 19, 2009 at 8:33 PM
When health care “reform” and cap n’ trade are enacted, Stalin will have won the cold war without firing a shot and all because of our “intellectual elites” in academia, Hollywood, the media, and Chicago.

We live in the Era of Empty Political Rhetoric. Speeches with words that say nothing in a beautiful way.
It’s time to end this farce.

Has anybody else picked up on the pattern that has Reid and Pelosi running one end of Pennsylvania Ave while Obama runs the other end of Pennsylvania Ave, with all parties staying off each other’s turf.
Notice how there have been virtually no major inquiries into administration operations by Reid and Pelosi, and virtually none the other way (with Rangel, Dodd, etc. receiving almost no DOJ activity). Reid and Pelosi haven’t even complained, at least publicly, about the intrusion of the Executive into areas that were disputed during the Bush Administration. And finally, the lack of a healthcare bill or written “plan” from the Obama Administration after endless speeches on the topic .. it’s almost as if to send up legislation would break the “deal” that separates their respective fiefdoms.
J_Crater on October 19, 2009 at 11:32 PM
Allright, this is somewhat off-topic but the information is too important to ignore. I’ll give the jist of the info – In order to swing the GOP back to conservatism then the Tea Party movement members must start becoming Precinct Committeemen. They are the ones that select the leadership in the party, they determine support of candidates, and they are the true representatives of the people at the local level for the national party. Here is a link to a site that explains exactly what we must do.

I should tell you that we contacted a guy in Bel Air who took 12 busloads of folks down to the march on DC on 9/12. We didn’t end up going with him (took the Metro in from my niece’s place), but since 9/12 I’ve received 150-200 e-mails from him. (Can’t even read them all — had to make a separate file to put them all in. He’s more prolific than Hot Air!) He’s very active and knows what’s going on tea-party, town-hall and other wise in Harford county. When we get settled we’ll probably link up with him on political activity. Just to let you know that there’s a pretty good contingent of Freedom Fighters in Harford county. I was pleasantly surprised to find that out.

That polls rather old, huh?
All I know is KBH is now back tracking on when she is going to vacate her office. Typical worthless RINO.
I wouldn’t order my tickets for her inaugural ball just yet!

What a good little kool-aid drinker you are. Until this administration makes it otherwise, this is a free nation protected by the Constitution. I do not have to and will not participate in this debacle until it becomes the only choice I have (which it will be one day if it passes) and then I’m not so sure. As it stands right now, the fines are less than typical monthly premiums so, I’ll pay the fine. In later posts you state that it will be the law and you pretty much would be obligated to “turn in your neighbor” Well, there will one day be a “law” that you’re not going to agree with or tramples your constitutional rights and you will feel compelled to decline to participate – you should be prepared to be “turned in” Apparently you have no problem with being told what car to drive, what food to eat, to be bankrupted by crap and trade, to fork over yet more of whatever salary you earn, to continue to support illegal aliens, for your children to be brainwashed by whatever the “topic du jour” is – for them to sing the praises of a person who is hell bent on destroying this country, to be told what media outlet to listen to or watch or read (and if they have their way, will eliminate eventually this forum and hundreds more like it) to allow the govt to takeover private enterprise and dictate what salary you can earn, the list is long. Are you ready to become a zombie? I’m not and never will be.
It’s really, really rough right now? Seriously? Ya think? It’s going to get rougher as this administration continues to run amok. Misplaced Anger? I’m angry because the Constitution is a “flawed document”? I’m angry because the left thinks I’m too stupid to come in out of the rain? I’m too ignorant to understand the intricacies of running a country? I should be excited that criminals and avowed radicals and communists run my country? I’m racist and a right wing extremist? I should just sit down and shut up because the worlds savior “won”? (oh yeah, I forgot, he won a Nobel because he “intends” to do whatever) I should be grateful that the government wants to control every aspect of my life down to what I’ll be able to watch, read or hear? How patronizing you are. You just go ahead and sit back, let it happen, I’m sure that at some point you’re going to wake up and think “OMG” but by then you’ll have no freedom what so ever. Tough luck for you. I’m going to continue to fight and be angry against all of this along with millions of others and you can reap the benefits without breaking your manicured nails.

was just flipping through the channels, joe and mika and touting another poll this am showing close to 57% support for obamacare and 57% approval of dear leader….

strike that…growing support of the public option….

I am constantly amazed at the number of morons still in deep denial about the level of radical socialism out of this administration and the motives behind it.

That’s why this bill is being rushed so the public won’t have a chance to understand how this is really going to end. I have a feeling when the public starts to see how much they are being taxed to pay for the Health Scam, they will rebel in the 2010 elections.
I was watching Joe and Mika and wasn’t surprised that they are touting the poll – 57% support the public option. Wonder who ABC called for the poll….the liberal Congress and the White House?

Let’s remember this is a slowed-down version of the process. The filthy lying coward tried to get this into law before the August recess with just three weeks discussion. Now, the public is much more informed on the issues and it is going to be harder to ram this through- though I think the rat bastard traitor will ultimately tell the public to go screw themselves and do just that on a strictly partisan vote without any real debate in Congress.

–Neither am I and I never will be (except at Halloween parties). I don’t read Daily Kos, or any of the left wing stuff. I do read mostly conservative blogs because they tend to catch stories the main stream news and blogs miss. But just because I believe in the Baucus bill and, if it becomes law, I want to see it enforced, doesn’t make me a zombie. Do you listen to Rush or Fox News all the time? If you do, I may consider you to be a zombie.

–It is an old poll, but it’s the newest one I can find. I’m not planning to order tickets yet (or, to be honest, planning to contribute a whole lot to her re-election campaign).
Jimbo3 on October 20, 2009 at 9:31 AM
Paying the fine is enforcement. I have no idea who you would be “turning in” or why.
I think everyone should opt to pay the fine. That would be the quickest way to collapse the entire system and throw the communist democrats out for good.

Yes, Rasmussen may have polled that Obamacare support is dropping, but I have heard liberals talking about the ABC poll that shows Americans want a public option.
