Quote of the day

posted at 10:00 pm on October 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Many have spoken about the need for a rebranding of America. Rebrand, restart, reboot. In my view these 36 words, alongside the administration’s approach to fighting nuclear proliferation and climate change, improving relations in the Middle East and, by the way, creating jobs and providing health care at home, are rebranding in action…

In dangerous, clangorous times, the idea of America rings like a bell (see King, M. L., Jr., and Dylan, Bob). It hits a high note and sustains it without wearing on your nerves. (If only we all could.) This was the melody line of the Marshall Plan and it’s resonating again. Why? Because the world sees that America might just hold the keys to solving the three greatest threats we face on this planet: extreme poverty, extreme ideology and extreme climate change. The world senses that America, with renewed global support, might be better placed to defeat this axis of extremism with a new model of foreign policy…

[A]n America that’s tired of being the world’s policeman, and is too pinched to be the world’s philanthropist, could still be the world’s partner. And you can’t do that without being, well, loved. Here come the letters to the editor, but let me just say it: Americans are like singers — we just a little bit, kind of like to be loved. The British want to be admired; the Russians, feared; the French, envied. (The Irish, we just want to be listened to.) But the idea of America, from the very start, was supposed to be contagious enough to sweep up and enthrall the world.

And it is. The world wants to believe in America again because the world needs to believe in America again.”

…alongside the administration’s approach to fighting nuclear proliferation…

This will only be accurate if Iran doesn’t build a bomb. Which this administration will never be able to pull off.

Don’t you just loveeeeeeeee it when a foreigner tells Americans what they want?

No Mr. Bono. From the very start, America just wanted to be left alone.

That changed on 9/11.

There’s a sense in some quarters of these not-so-United States that Norway, Europe and the World haven’t a clue about the real President Obama; instead, they fixate on a fantasy version of the president, a projection of what they hope and wish he is, and what they wish America to be.

When Ireland was about to raise income tax rates, Bono moved to another country–France or Belgium, I forget which.

When he gives away all his wealth to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, I’ll take him seriously. Otherwise, he always has his hand out like a panhandler at a bus station. A Canadian PM got that last year and refused to meet him.

How can the world believe in America if America becomes just like the rest of the world? The shining city on a hill has to be different by definition, doesn’t it? Light in the darkness, hope in despair. That is not the America that Obama has in mind. American exceptionalism isn’t in his vocabulary. Obama doesn’t get it; Palin does. I’m with Palin.

If indeed the world doesn’t “believe in America” its because of the hateful venom people like Bambi Obama spewed against George Bush for 8 years. They knew full well that they more they hated on Bush, the less the world would think of him. The world’s view of America is directly tied to what it thinks of America’s president.

The lib haters got what they wanted .. Bambi for President. Pardon me if I refuse to do any of the heavy lifting.

He doesn’t know his history.

America wasn’t “believed in” by the Europeans before WWI.

And it wasn’t until WWII – when millions of American youngsters turned back the greatest evil Europe had ever seen – did America become “believed in”.

I’ll say this to Bono – you want an America that is not a world policeman? Then fine …

When the next Hitler raises his head …

Do not call us.

Do not ask that we sacrifice hundreds of thousands of our kids to bail you out of the mess you will get yourselves into.

If you can’t stand beside America after it has been attacked by Terrorists.

If you are … “upset” that we gave 25 million Iraqis a chance for freedom …

If that is indeed the way you feel about us …

You were never a friend at all.

The sad part is – I would very much now like to have my uncle back – who died in the Huertgen forrest freeing Belgium.

But I can’t.

To quote Mr. B. Bunny, Esq. “What a maroon!”

What American’s want, is foreigners to stay out of our business and our wallets. Find a country the rest of the world loves to pay for all your charities.

See if we care. Moron.

Or perhaps that was Mr. D. Duck.

Regarding the issue of poverty, I came across an interesting quote today:

“The world is not here for a few people, and an order based eternally on the distinction between the haves and the have-nots does not exist any more because the have-nots have determined to lay claims to their portion of God’s earth.”

– Adolf Hitler, predicting British defeat in the spring of 1940, after invading Europe. From “Onward We Charge”, a biography of William Darby, by Paul Jeffers.

Sounds like a clip from today’s newspaper. Or blog site.

I believe in America… never stopped… and all those American dollars haven’t hurt you much.

When? When? When the heck has “The World” had this love affair with America?

Pre-WWI they barely thought about us at all.

Between WWI and II half of Europe and all of the U.S.S.R. would have gladly seen us absorbed into their empires.

Post-WWII the countries that we defended/freed loved us…for a while…as long as we hadn’t sold them out to the Soviets. The countries that we had defeated still hated us.

In the ’50s? Did the world love us for a half-hour in the ’50s?

In the ’60s we were hated because of Vietnam. In the ’70s we were joke and in the ’80s the same people who hate us now (supposedly) for all of Bush’s “sins” hated us because Reagan stood up to the Soviets.

When is this time that the Left repeatedly hearkens back too? When, especially has the Left ever loved America?

Individuals suffering from the freedom and prosperity destroying policies of their own countries love America and leave those countries to come here, but that didn’t stop during the Bush Administration. Heck, it didn’t even slow down.

Culture causes poverty. “Rebranding” America as equal to the inferior cultures of the world will not raise them out of poverty, it will only drag us down.

Yes, you gotta give him that. Most of his comrades just look to the government to do all the work. Heck, Huffy just wet herself because she was able to raise a few grand for some poor mother through her website. I wonder if she matched the contributions…

And so we are, boyo, and so we are…partners with Chavez and Castro…Putin and the Taliban…the Mullahs in Iran and the genocidal maniacs in the Sudan…partners with the human eliminatists of the ‘Climate Change’ faction…partners with the ideals of Mao and Che Guevara and Marx. It’s a new world alright…who will save us now?

The only consolation is that the many starving and oppressed masses of the world will be joined by many more. The motto of your class is: “Gee…guess it sux being you!”

Jonah Goldberg was laughing over at “The Corner” about having the iconic photo of Guevera wearing an Obama tee shirt with The One’s logo on it. Someone with the talent, please photoshop this quickly. It will make a mint.

Bono has made using a lot of words to say nothing into an art form. I just don’t get why people think he is so deep.
