Defending the invincible

posted at 2:15 pm on October 18, 2009 by Doctor Zero

Almost every column written in defense of Rush Limbaugh over the last few days, following the vicious campaign to slander him as a racist, has included a statement along the lines of “Rush is rich, powerful, intelligent, and articulate, so he can take care of himself, and he’ll be just fine.” I don’t mean to disparage the authors of these sentiments, but I must disagree. I know the most popular conservative broadcaster in America doesn’t need some anonymous guest-author on a blog to defend him, but I’m going to do it anyway, without the slightest reservation due to his wealth and power.

Much strife and misery has been visited on this country by the idea that the rights and prerogatives of the rich and successful are diminished by their fortunes… that we should feel no remorse about seizing their property, or insulting their honor, because they’ll still be comfortably rich at the end of the day. We have become much too relaxed about laughing off vile slander, because the target can nurse his wounded soul from the plush accommodations of a West Palm Beach mansion. Honor is as valuable to the millionaire as to the pauper.

I’ll probably never be part of a consortium that purchases a football team, but I understand what it means to watch a dream bleed to death. My hopes and ambitions may be smaller than Rush Limbaugh’s, but they have exactly the same value to me. Whether those dreams are carved from pixels, paper, or platinum, they are equally priceless. It requires only a drop of the moral imagination utterly lacking in the people who slandered Limbaugh to guess what it feels like, when a man whose life revolves around words and ideas sees his dreams boiled away by words he didn’t speak, and ideas he has never held.

The events of the past week were about more than simply thwarting Limbaugh’s desire to buy into a football team. There was the naked greed of parasites like Al Sharpton, desperate to maintain his relevance in a world that has wisely stripped him of the power to destroy a man’s life with a phony rape allegation, or launch murderous riots. There was the blind personal hatred of Limbaugh, by people who long ago tired of watching him rewrite their plans for the part of America that refuses to submit to them. And, of course, this was the latest offensive in a bitter war against the ideas that Limbaugh has long served, as their most cheerful and effective defender. Limbaugh’s enemies in that war are angry because they’re frightened. They’re frightened because all of their estimates and projections said they should have been able to claim victory by now.

Backed up against the wall, and forced to admit the most damaging quotes used against Limbaugh were forgeries, his accusers are left stammering that he’s simply too “divisive” to be involved with ownership of an NFL team. What a bleak example of the totalitarian mindset! If you disagree with the approved ideas distributed by the collective, you’re “divisive” and unfit for membership in polite society. I suppose Limbaugh is saturated with divisiveness particles, whose half-life will extend for decades, but the warning to others is clear: rid yourselves of those “divisive” ideas and get with the program.

Perhaps the President could direct one of his many czars to prepare a list of certified “divisive” positions, and which aspects of society are closed to offenders. It would save people like David Checketts, the investor seeking to purchase the Rams, the time he wasted inviting Limbaugh to join his consortium. Imagine how much more convenient it would have been for Checketts, if he could have pulled up a handy whitehouse.gov web page and learned Rush was too divisive to be minority owner of a football team! The Homeland Security spectrum of terrorist alert levels could be used to measure divisiveness ratings. I’d be willing to give them an email address, so the system could send me a warning message when I approach Level Orange. What do you suppose the divisiveness rating for someone like Jeremiah Wright would be? He built a tidy personal fortune from his Ministry of Hate – would he be allowed to buy a stake in an NFL team?

Only the most gullible dupes, and people who rely on CNN for “news”, seriously think Rush Limbaugh is a racist. The dishonesty and cynicism behind dimwitted assertions that he wanted to buy an NFL team to role-play the life of a plantation owner is breathtaking. His accusers don’t really think he harbors some elusive racist demon, which he suppresses just long enough to become friends with Walter Williams, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, and Tony Dungy. The people who read this crap should be at least as angry over the insult to their intelligence as Limbaugh is about the insult to his honor. This kind of weapons-grade stupidity is one of the things America can no longer afford.

Limbaugh’s accusers want him burned at the stake for the crime of effective conservatism, not the racism they were so eager to lie about last week. The American public should think long and hard about which side of this ideological struggle should be on trial. Rush Limbaugh’s ideas did not produce a titanic deficit, double-digit unemployment, and global adversaries who can barely stop laughing at our President long enough to pretend they respect him. His ideas did not put disciples of Saul Alinsky, Chairman Mao, and Alex Jones in positions of power. His words are not deployed to conceal hundreds of billions in stolen “stimulus” money, thousand-page Mad Lib bills riddled with blank paragraphs, and massive offenses against individual liberty. His EIB Network endorses $1500 Sleep Number beds, not “saved or created” jobs costing half a million bucks apiece. Unlike the “Hope and Change” Administration, he doesn’t spend his three hours on the radio each weekday listing all the things you will no longer be allowed to do. He is the champion of ideas so powerful that his enemies fear the merest taste of them.

Rush Limbaugh has raised his voice in defense of freedom countless times over the years. I’m happy to exercise my freedom to raise my voice in defense of him. I invite you to do the same. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t “need” it. He deserves it. All of us do. There is little we can do to reverse the injustice of the St. Louis Rams affair, but we can make it up to Rush by giving him the chance to deliver a hell of a show on the day after Election Day, next year. If CNN is foolish enough to continue employing cretins like Rick Sanchez by then, all of them should be turning in a very enjoyable performance on that day, as well.

Excellent article, Doctor Zero.

Thank you.

The problem is that there are no consequences for the liberals in this country.

They have effectively outlawed conservatism.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should have been in jail long ago for extortion, graft, inciting violence, etc.

So if a private business chooses not to do business with a private individual who makes inflammatory statements, it’s evidence of that business having a “totalitarian mindset”? Or is it only evidence of a “totalitarian mindset” to you because you happen to agree with those inflammatory view? Me thinks it’s the latter…

There was provable malice in that these people sought to block Limbaugh from owning a minority stake in a professional sports team. There was provable slander and libel since, in print and in speech, there were on-the-record lies said with malice.

BAH! Get out of here, moron…

“Rush is rich, powerful, intelligent, and articulate, so he can take care of himself, and he’ll be just fine.”

The left makes a living taking down these types of people, because success = oppression and injustice.

That is, of course, if you’re not a liberal. Being a successful conservative means your have to PAY, because you do not apply any self-guilt. You MUST feel guilty for being better – if you don’t do it, the liberals will do it for you.

gryphon202 on October 18, 2009 at 4:11 PM

In order for the slander to be actionable, you’d have to prove that MSNBC and CNN aired the quotes knowing that they were false. Which of course, you can’t do.

Regardless, Limbaugh would never have become an owner even without the bogus quotes. He’s said plenty of ridiculous, objectionable things all on his own, and the momentum to deny him an ownership stake was already rolling far before those quotes came out.

There was a headline thread yesterday where I and another poster found several, and we provided sources. Yet whenever a new thread on the subject comes up someone says we’re “making stuff up” and they insist we dig up the quotes and the sources all over again. massrighty on October 18, 2009 at 4:26 PM

Well written as always. But it does bring up an interesting, as yet, unmentioned point — where were defenders of Rush, like Tony Dungy and others of color who know the man not to be a racist? It would have been worth the price of admission to see Michael Wilbon stare down Tony Dungy and tell him he didn’t recognize racism when he saw it.

While I realize that people of color risk the tag of “Uncle Tom” or worse when they espouse thoughts not with the collective, you would hope they would recognize the danger in allowing any sort of mob mentality or value test for admittance to a business venture.

That he says that man should be judged not by the color of his skin, nor his intentions? That the liberal agenda has destroyed the black family, taken away black fathers, robbing them of self worth outside of concepts of the State? That Rush points out that it is the Left who is constantly focused on race; whether that’s telling C. Thomas that he’s not really black, or Juan Williams to “get back on the porch“, or Obama isn’t really black because he has no slave blood? Your problem isn’t that Rush dehumanizes blacks, its that Rush views all minorities equal to whites, and does so without predicating that idea on government or political parties, but on Almighty God. It’s his elevation of the black community without the Sharptons of the world that pisses you off. For once the black community realizes that they don’t need those shmucks, this country will advance like it never has before. MLK Jrs. dream will be realized and character NOT race will matter.

Anchorman charged with DUI
Associated Press
17 February 1991
St. Petersburg Times

A Miami television anchorman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in a December accident in which police say he left the scene after hitting a man and returned later.

Rick Sanchez, anchor for WSVN, was charged Friday with one count of DUI, a first-degree misdemeanor in the Dec. 10 accident outside Joe Robbie Stadium, prosecutor Kathleen Hoague said.

If convicted, Sanchez faces a maximum of six months in prison and a $500 fine.
A blood test showed Sanchez had a blood-alcohol level that night of .15 percent. A person with a .10 level is considered legally drunk in Florida.

The man Sanchez hit was critically injured and remains in a coma at North Shore Hospital.

Ms. Hoague said Friday that she thinks Sanchez was driving drunk at the time of the accident, but prosecutors decided not to charge him with causing bodily injury while driving drunk, a third-degree felony.

porch monkeys like Juan Williams for trying to defend him.

Afrolib on October 18, 2009 at 4:30 PM

Unbelievable. I think we can get bipartisan agreement for the banhammer here…

crr6 on October 18, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Here’s the problem facing honorable people: The folks who routinely smear anyone who gets in their way, and then are able to sleep like babies, have no conscience. That means they’re incapable of being shamed into stopping or retracting their slander even when they’re caught red-handed.

ncborn on October 18, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Thanks in advance pal. You’re the best.

The Invincible among us are MIA. I mean, where are the people investing in media outlets? Where’s our well funded Media Matters? Were is our well funded Moveon.org? Where are our legal firms set up to fight in the courts? Why do we have to rely on two kids with a handycam to out ACORN?

I could go on and on but make no mistake: The Invincibles among us are totally MIA. The last time I saw most of them they were cutting backroom deals with Obama.

TheBigOldDog on October 18, 2009 at 4:42 PM

Hahaha. Very funny. That said, i do hate racists like Rush and especially hate ignorant dumb porch monkeys like Juan Williams for trying to defend him.

Afrolib on October 18, 2009 at 4:30 PM

Nothing to add to this Doctor Zero.

Another outstandingly well written piece. Thank you.

Anders on October 18, 2009 at 4:43 PM

I strongly suggest you retract this. You’re black but that gives you NO right to say such a thing.

Please retract fast, or I’m going to have no choice but to go to the mods and request your banning as others are planning.

Liam on October 18, 2009 at 4:38 PM

I agree, although I am not sure a retraction is good enough, that really is a disgusting sentence and makes quite a statement about the writer. I will say it again, vile and disgusting human being who can write that statement.

Unbelievable. I think we can get bipartisan agreement for the banhammer here…

crr6 on October 18, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Yes, I have to agree with you on this.

Please note, too, our mutual agreement shows that we conservatives aren’t necessarily racist. Just an idea to reach some kind of common ground.

Liam on October 18, 2009 at 4:44 PM

Ok fine.. I take back the porch statement and apologize to anyone who was offended. It was over the top. But still, the guy is a sellout and pisses me off.

Afrolib on October 18, 2009 at 4:45 PM

I did not vote for B. Obama, but after the election, thought perhaps some of these idiots like Al Sharpton would now shut up about perceived racism in America. I now see that all it did was embolden him and all the left wing nutroots, whether their gripe was about race, gender, war or otherwise. They know that Obama now has the bully pulpit, and are all demanding that he, his administration, and Congress use it to further their cause, even if it is at the expense of the Majority and our Constitution.

Some mornings I am afraid to even turn on my computer, television or radio, or even read my newspaper for fear that our government is in the process of challenging one of our other cherished freedoms that they have not yet poked their nose into. It is on those days that I remember that those of us who are reading or listening to what is going on in our Country, are the only ones that can save it, because everyone else appears to have their heads stuck in the proverbial sand.

Susanboo on October 18, 2009 at 4:45 PM

Thanks again in advance.

crr6 on October 18, 2009 at 4:45 PM

The whole article is great but this paragraph really hits the nail on the head. One thing I think is happening is that the Left sees a very narrow window of opportunity open right now in which to go for it all…go for a socially liberal agenda….go for redistribution of wealth and to go for the ultimate lasting power grab…I really don’t like to engage in hyperbole but I don’t see a good ending to this ….half the polution is now so ignorant and envious of producers that they will vote to destroy this country by electing far left socialist communist etc…but th rest of us aren’t going to sit idly by and say, “oh well that’s the way it is. We lost, they won so we’ll just go along with losing our liberty and freedom and rights” …we’re the Patick Henry group who will say give me liberty or give me death…I’m sure the Left will be glad to accomodate that wish…

I feel very bad about what happened to Rush and I’m glad Dr Zero that you’ve defended him…

Still, I don’t want to read that sort of thing. Just isn’t right.

I may be new to posting here and I am not sure of whom you are talking about being banned earlier. What I would suggest is, everyone put their name on the end of that statement and see what you think, what would mods do to you? I certainly appreciate Liam`s position of wanting to be civil about it, though I am not sure everyone would fare so well. Heck, what if Rush`s name was at the end of that , what would afrolib do with that.

bluemarlin on October 18, 2009 at 4:56 PM

That’s BS and you know it. There have been at least 5-6 threads on the whole Limbaugh fiasco, and in each of them a “troll” has posted legitimate quotes

crr6, who starts from the premise we conservatives are racist, just saw we aren’t. Nothing is better than exploding preconceived notions.

Inadvertently, several liberals have either exposed themselves as racists, or had their notions shot down.

Not too shabby, I like to think.

bluemarlin on October 18, 2009 at 4:56 PM

Well, let me enlighten you. After LGF decided that it was their job to go after us for supposed racist remarks, there were new rules that were not clear, but you sort of knew what was accpetable and what was not.
A couple of posters got too close and without warning, they were banned. One of the poster’s post was not as inflammatory as Afrolib’s, but he was banned. The other poster banning was questionable, nobody is really sure WHY he got banned.
Afrolib will be at it again, trying to push the limits, another day, calling all conservatives racist, etc….
I feel that if Allah, Ed, the moderators while Michelle is busy with her book tour, are so concerned with the postings, they should ban, or at least warn Afrolib.
It is not Liam’s place to say all is well…..he can accept the supposed apology, but I don’t believe it, because he will be at it again next time, with his filth and baggage to tell us all we are racist by default.
Now, as far as you are concerned, I’m not sure why you felt a need to get into the middle of this. It was posted to Liam, not you. And as far as Moderates? Did you mean moderators? If you meant moderates, I could give a tin sh*t. If you meant moderators, it IS up to them as they are the hall monitors, not us. When there is a problem, it usually gets discussed and noted, for others outside the posters and for the moderators, that will make a decision.

HornetSting on October 18, 2009 at 5:05 PM

Not too shabby, I like to think.

Liam on October 18, 2009 at 5:03 PM

Agreed. Crr6 showed he may have two braincells to rub together. But, it is not up to us to accept an apology for the final word. It is up to Allah and Ed, as guardians of Michelle’s site.

HornetSting on October 18, 2009 at 5:07 PM

Liam on October 18, 2009 at 5:03 PM

I never said all of you are racists, and naturally the fact that some of you denounced AfroLib does not prove that all of you aren’t. I’d be much more impressed if posters here consistent;y denounced racist comments from conservative posters here, rather than jumping upon a racist post by a despised troll.

Still, kudos to those that did.

HornetSting on October 18, 2009 at 4:49 PM

Afrolib doing more drive-by shootings I see.

Does he really think this works?

When even Juan Williams is finding all these false racism charges appalling, the left are doing more damage to themselves than Rush.

Obama and his thugs have set back race relations by 40 years.
That’s his only accomplishment, well, that and an enemies list 100 times the size of Nixon’s. How proud he must be.
