Video: Rick Sanchez, David Shuster retract phony Limbaugh slavery quote
posted at 6:30 pm on October 16, 2009 by Allahpundit
Actually, only Sanchez retracts it and even he’s content to say that CNN’s simply been unable to verify it, which kinda sorta leaves it up to the viewer to decide whether Rush said it or not. Still, watch these two as a study in contrast. Sanchez reproaches himself, admits they shouldn’t have reported it, and apologizes. Shuster’s take? “So, just to clarify.”
Funny how both of these networks found a quote that happened to be useful in bludgeoning a prominent conservative too good to check. I wonder when was the last time they got the same fact wrong when reporting a political story. Can’t happen too often, can it? Must be Limbaugh’s dumb luck. Click the image to watch.

If they were so sorry they “fake-quoted”, maybe they should have thought about it before they did it in the first place.

I have it on good sources that Shuster sleeps with sheep.
Oh wait, I retract that statement but I still say he’s morally bankrupt.

Financial damages are financial damages. The jury can hear the apologies from the two networks’ counsels and ombudsmen.

Not everything we wanted, but a firm base to later hammer them ten years down the line and every chance in between.

Its too late. The damage has been done. Limbaugh and his attorneys must proceed and with the settlement they might consider the formation of a new football league. There’d be plenty of partners eager to get in on that. Darvin Dowdy

Michael Wilbon is an incredible racist. I can’t believe the post and espn employ such a divisive figure. I know that he is divisive even though I never listen to him or read him because I did read him once and then other people who don’t listen to him or read him either say he is a racist. Except my son who says he is a douch-bag.

Sanchez admitted to not verifying a quote that can harm Rush. So can’t Rush sue CNN and Sanchez for malice?
cubachi on October 16, 2009 at 6:49 PM
The sole reason that these “pseudo-apologies” are coming out now, is probably on the advice of the Legal Department over at CNN is trying to do a little ex post facto CYA.
If it gets into the courtroom, CNN can say “Well, we retracted our erroneous statements and appropriate apologies from the news reporters/commentators were made.”
I do hope Rush is working on his legal options…from what I have read, there are indeed copious grounds for a civil libel action, with damages.

Real journalists confirm their stories before they go on the air or into print, unlike last place CNN and on life support CBS.
They won’t be on the air long with their ratings. Ad buyers want eyeballs.
Hmmm wouldn’t it be cool if Rush sued and ended up owning CNN?
That would be seriously cool.
dogsoldier on October 16, 2009 at 6:54 PM
Rick Sanchez is a pathetic hunk of sh$$. He took every opportunity to repeat the Quotes attributed to Rush as he reported Rush’s denial.
rjoco1 on October 16, 2009 at 6:54 PM
Typos in original. “Stuck” in the first paragraph should of course be “struck”. “”Plead” is incorrectly used in the last paragraph; the past tense of “plead” is “pled” or “pleaded”. No comma should appear after Jeffrey Smuzinick’s name in the last paragraph.
It’s juuuust possible the page was pulled for editing… Nah, prolly not.
Mary in LA on October 16, 2009 at 6:56 PM
Damage is already done. Saying you can’t find the source, isn’t an apology, and hardly a retraction. Sue em, Rush!!! Sue them BIG TIME!

Hit-and-run Sanchez’s ‘apology’ isn’t good enough for me.
He needs to be fired or, better, resign. At least Nixon had the guts to resign and, since Lefties are so much better than Nixon, they should follow that lead all the sooner.

One of our resident scumbag trolls will be along any minute to bring up Laura Bush, so let’s compare and contrast:
Rick Sanchez: Driving drunk. Laura Bush: Driving sober.
Rick Sanchez: 32 years old at time of accident. Laura Bush: 16 years old at time of accident.
Rick Sanchez: Fled the scene. Laura Bush: Apparently behaved responsibly, as there is no record of her behaving otherwise.
Rick Sanchez: Pled down to a DUI to avoid a hit-and-run charge. Laura Bush: No charges filed.
Rick Sanchez: Runs off his mouth continually and displays no shame. Laura Bush: Lives quietly and is apparently still so remorseful that she can’t talk about the accident.

“Won,that ALL Liberals were waiting for”,and even before
the Liberal Primaries, and even, about a year or so before
the Presidential election,
RACE and RACISM,was not even on the radar screen, not one
blip,for that matter,everything was tickety-boo,America
was getting along, kumbaya so to speak!!
And then,the Chicago thug,Father Plager,and Rev Wright,
came along, seemingly out of nowhere, and the RACISM BAND
WAGON got hitched, and all the RACIST SH*T DISTRUBERS,plan
ning and plotting all the way to Washington, and then met
up with AYERS,the PROFESSOR OF HATE!
Then, all of the MSM,turned into the STATE RUNNED SOCIALIST MEDIA,and it also got onboard the RACISM BANDWAGON,and voil
a,on a dime,overnight,
because an African American was running for President,
AMERICA WAS RACIST ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PURE BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really, now more than ever, needs to happen. The Republican’s keep walking around like a broken record saying, “elections have consequences, elections have consequences, elections have consequences, rinse, repeat.” Yeah, well so does slandering a private citizen.

Damage is done but this isn’t about Rush getting to sit in the Owner’s booth anymore, it’s about the integrity of journalism and slander of conservatives. If CNN really wants to apologize (MSNBC is hopeless) they should put their resources to work in finding out who exactly put those quotes out there. I’m sure the culprit hangs out in the same circles as them and will probably spill the beans drunk at a cocktail party one day.
Farthest anyone has gotten to tracking the comments is that New York Law Firm. Work from there.

The thing about dirtball Sanchez stating that CNN can’t “verify” the quote is that it is completely dishonest. Saying that they “can’t verify” the quote is to leave open the possibility that it MIGHT yet be true – when CNN knows without question that it is false.
But, who expects more from these vermin?

I think Juan Williams has been learning the truth over the past couple of years about being a black journalist who at least occasionally stopped suckling at the teat of his liberal masters . . . even HE gets excoriated for having an independent, slightly un-Lib thought.
