How about just saving the $2 trillion, Harry?

Although campfreddy has a good point that we should be talking about $54 Bil PER YEAR, and not $54 Bil total; the flaw in what Reid said is this:

He’s pooh-poohing of savings from Tort reform by comparing it to an ASSUMED passage of a horrific, Freedom-Crushing $2 Trillion bill. He’s not comparing it to the status-quo.

In reality, what Tort reform would do is SAVE the American People $54 Billion dollars, INSTEAD OF costing them a deficit-ballooning $2 trillion. The difference is not between $2 Tril and $54 Bil. The difference is between $0 and $2 Tril, PLUS $54 Bil. That is, we would not end up with a total of -946. We would end up with a total of +54.

Get with it people.

I may be confused, but if it would save $54 billion a year, then over the ten year period that would be a saving of $540 billion. Which is a quarter of $2 trillion, is it not?
And therefore, very substantial.

What I find most disgusting about his statement is this: $54 billion isn’t a lot of money, but $81 billion is? Remember, Democrats were CROWING over the fact that the CBO initial, early analysis said that the plan would save $81 billion. So…Democrats find savings that support their cause, and its a lot of money. Republicans who want tort reform find out that it saves almost as much money (really MORE, when you look at it correctly, as was stated above) and its suddenly NOT a lot overall? My my my…can’t you just SMELL the bull manure rolling from Reid on this one??
