Limbaugh goes out of his way in the second clip to say he’ll remain a huge fan of the NFL, so if you’re thinking about a boycott, it sounds like you’re on your own.

True but this episode changed me

When baseball had the big arrogant players strike years ago, I stopped enjoying players I once identified with.

I used to watch all the Hockey games but the new (pc) rules took away a lot of the childish joy. Then the players' strike turned me off so I rarely turn the game on now

When the players union and various players trash Limbaugh, they are trashing me. I don't take it personally for Limbaugh. I take it personally against myself. Here is a passle of guys playing their hearts out, a bunch of whom think I am not worthy to be in the game at any level. I can let the story die, but I don't think I can watch these guys the same again.

Exit question: Why did Checketts assure him that he was prepared for the media firestorm when he obviously wasn’t? Maybe he thought at the time that Soros was coming aboard and that the two would “balance” each other for left/right media purposes?

The Q is not Checkette, but Soros. Was Soros simply a passive partner? The public does not know Soros so he has no balance to give

There has been a long fierce battle to take down teflon Rush who 'controls' conservatives against the wishes of both parties.

Rush was schmoozed into a team bid that set up America's heros to refuse to ride the bus with 'racist' Rush. Checketts was walked into a corner so he rolled Rush out the door to stop the race talk, and Rush got some genuine mud stuck on him, unfairly of course.

I would guess, in the world of games, that both Checketts and Rush were gamed

Rush's mistake was thinking he still had a right to own a franchise in America. I think he had better not try to buy a McDonald's franchise anytime soon. The bus is on a roll

The libs made a big mistake in the long run. They used football, the sacred symbol, to exclude a big hunk of America and that doesn't fade easily

[...] Was George Soros involved? If you can’t spare the time, watch the last three minutes of the second clip for his big finish about Saul Alinsky’s America and then two minutes of the first clip starting at around 2:45 for the bombshell about his very strange bedfellow in the bid. Rush says he knew nothing about it until yesterday and even now seems unsure that Soros is definitely involved. [...]

Who the heck made you Overlord of the 2nd Amendmentand the EEOC? Seriuosly, there is NO such RULE that you cannot purchase SOMETHING including a freaking BUSINESS like an NFL team because you are POLITICAL. If either Soros or Rush wanna buy a team, they can. If the league and the Obama WH wanna try a stop Rush because they don't like his politics then I would suspect they'd have to give Rush a good answer under their own VERY liberal love of the EEO at SCOTUS at some point. The reason Rush is out is ONLY because the principal bidder did NOT have brass cajones and is a beta male. Something you should be well able to relate to sir. Stop espousing your nonsense.

So some blacks with time on their hands strike another blow for black/white disunity. And they take others to task for bias? How absurd can you get.

FUnny isn't it.

The media attack a persosn for saying something the media disagrees with.

Then the media declares that the person must be shunned and ignored, because the person is "divisive". When it was the same media that created the "divisiveness" in the first place.

It's the same thing that the media does with candidates. And the moderates fall for it every time.

For years, John McCain was every newspapers "favorite Republican". Everytime he attacked other Republicans, he got fawning reviews. I talked to a number of people who told me that one of the reasons they were supporting McCain was precisely because the media liked him so much.

As soon as the media had a choice between McCain and a real Democrat, they turned on him, precisely as I and many others had predicted they would.

When will Republicans learn, that we can't let the media choose our candiates for us?

So Much for the Post-Racial America [Andy McCarthy]

I'm hunkered down on some projects and just heard about the phony attacks on Rush by the race-hustlers extraordinaire, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. I know Rush has big shoulders and he'll handle it just fine. But everytime one of these stories comes up, which is all too often, I can't help but think it says a lot more about us than whoever happens to be in the cross-hairs. Why do Sharpton and Jackson have careers? Why aren't they shown the door for serial racism and dishonesty? Why does anyone give a damn what they say? Why does the press treat them like they matter when they're a walking, talking parodies?

In the 1970s, I went to a highly integrated, all-boys high school (Cardinal Hayes) in the Bronx. It was one of the best experiences in my life, and I had great friendships with all manner of guys, because from the first day they treated us like we were all "Hayesmen" — not white guys, black guys, Spanish guys, Chinese guys, etc. We were encouraged to see each other as peers, not tribesmen. Of course there was intra-group affinity along ethnic and racial lines — there always is.
But there wasn't a lot of tension. There was some — again, there always is — but there was no special treatment and no pressure for enforced separateness. We laughed at each other's expense (ethnic and racial jokes were not cause for banishment from society back then) and competed on a level playing field of merit. Everyone was treated like he belonged, if you did something good it was yours, and if you screwed up it was on you, not your heritage.

That's how Rush treats people — in the Martin Luther King aspiration that the content of one's character is what matters, not the color of one's skin. Yet, in the media narrative, he's somehow the one who's got a race issue — and the guys who trade on race, live and breathe it 24/7, are held up as our public conscience. The Left calls this "progress." I call it perversion.

There's only one way this nonsense ever goes away: When we say "enough!" and tell the race-baiters their time is up. It's too much of an industry, so it probably won't happen tomorrow. But the Sixties ideal is crashing and burning before our very eyes, and I think it'll take a lot of its warped obsessions down with it.

Power Line who offered this on the media attacks:

A final observation, perhaps too obvious to require saying: It's no coincidence that Democratic Party outlets like CNN had to dredge up fake quotes to make their case. Nothing Rush actually said would do the trick, even though he's been on the radio three hours a day, five days a week, for more than twenty years. That really tells you all you need to know.
ONE LAST UPDATE: It is worth noting, as a kind of macabre footnote, that CNN found it worthwhile to "fact check" Saturday Night Live when that program had the temerity to ridicule CNN's President, The One. Maybe CNN could become a respected news organization if it tried to fact check news stories as well as comedy skits, starting with--is this too much to ask?--its own broadcasts.

I think he has to sue for his listeners. I know this rolls off his back, but by calling him a racist they are calling me a racist because I listen to him. He should sue on behalf of every conservative. This isn’t about the NFL. This fight is bigger than that. Lets use this to end the liberals ability to play the race card.

Apparently you’ve come to the Trial Lawyer’s position on junk lawsuits.

Look on the bright side. When the acts become intolerable we AMERICANS know how to deal with tyranny . History will repeat,America will be free of the bleating scum that is dragging her down.

Or at least if one speaks ill of Teh Won, they're not welcome. Fergie's foray into politics was to heavily endorse Obama.

I was going to compare the new NFL to Hollywood, but at least there is a way for conservatives to make and distribute movies outside the established production/distribution network.

Fergie will just hold a concert with words unprintable here. Absolutely “not controversial”, unlike Limbaugh agreeing with Roger Goodall that gansterism has no place on an NFL field

Apparently you don’t know the NFL bylaws too well; there is one and only one “principal owner” for each team (except for a couple of grandfathered teams; the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants), who must own at least 30% of the franchise and is solely responsible for the operations of the team. It would not matter whether Limbaugh (or Soros) provided the other 70%; since neither would have been the “principal owner” of record, neither would have any more ownership rights than Fergie.

You also apparently have never heard of an entity formed by the NFL called the Gridiron PAC. At last check, nearly 2/3rds of the money doled out by said PAC went to Democrats.

steveegg on October 15, 2009 at 9:12 PM

And yet they have calculated that Fergie will increase the value of the franchise while Limbaugh would be a liability. It's their business, but in my opinion a wise move. The Dolphins won't get protested for her (very) tiny stake and knowing Miami they will be able to capitalize off her popularity.

I guess the lesson here is if you want to be able to buy in on an NFL team you're better off sticking to singing pop songs than talking politics. Your best bet is probably neither--just make your money quietly or from your family like most current owners. Free speech isn't without repercussions.

The NFL didn't seem like a good match for Rush anyway--with all that profit sharing and having to lobby taxpayers for stadiums. He should stick to what he's good at and that's building a huge audience to sell stuff to.

Before you minimize Fergie’s history, do remember that her role as a minority owner in the Dolphins will be the exact same as Rush Limbaugh’s role as a minority owner in the Rams would have been – cash for the principal owner. The NFL is quite strict in having one and only one voice speak as “the owner” of a team.

Of course, facts do not matter at all to you or your ilk.

Giving a local celeb a couple million dollar stake in the team so she'll sit in the stadium 8 weeks a year and maybe put on a concert to get butts in the seat is not the same as Rush Limbaugh buying a stake. George Soros taking a big stake like Limbaugh I'll give you and I'd be against that as well (keep politics out of the game). I'm not a fan of Fergie, but I don't ever recall her being a political figure.

FOX just said that Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas is part of a group looking to buy the Dolphins.

Of course, Fergie has been known to use many offensive terms in her songs, including the dreaded ‘n-word’.

I wonder if Fergie will get the smear job Rush received – or will she be applauded because she supports the Usurper?

Mr Purple on October 15, 2009 at 8:30 PM

Is that what they are really reporting or are they reporting the truth that the new owners of the Dolphins are bringing in celebrities with small ownership stakes in part as return for promotions. Ticket sales are diving, so they are bringing in celebs and trying to make the games more exciting (a bad sign you have to give away part of the team to get people to sit in the skyboxes). Fergie quite obviously doesn't have the money or knowledge to actually buy a NFL team.

Fergie would join others like Jimmy Buffett, Marc Anthony, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and Venus and Serena Williams.

Now that they’ve purged Rush, conservatives will demand that Soros be purged too and Georgie boy surely knows it. Which is why I suspect that he’s not involved in the bid (and, needless to say, won’t be involved going forward).

You assume that the rules of fair play apply. In the ObamiNation we now find ourselves in, they don't.

I said this before….NFL is nothing but a giant gang fight by millionaires who can throw and catch a ball. It’s as big as it is because of big media. And why the thug life lived by 1/2 the league is dismissed in the media as boys will be boys.

Amazing how you never hear of anyone in the NHL getting arrested for attempted murder or gun possession? And when’s the last time an NHL or ex-NHL player was gunned down?

Hmmmm I wonder why that is.

Being the sport where they tolerate actual fist fights between players, hockey may not be your best example. It's not nearly as popular (or as large in terms of players) as the NFL, but there are plenty of NHL arrests that get publicized. Mike Danton got arrested a few years back for attempting to set up a murder for hire. How's that for thug like? Or Patrick Kane this year who decided to beat up a cab driver because he didn't have the 20 cents in change he was owed. Pretty cruel if you ask me.

Athletes are hyper-competitive and often have huge egos which can lead to bad decisions in free time. It's not a cultural thing. Another example... Figure skating is the antithesis of gang culture, but that didn't stop Tonya Harding from taking a hit out on the knees of her competitor.
