Fox News poll: Only 43% would vote to reelect Obama

posted at 7:33 pm on October 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Don’t get too excited about his numbers. Peter Beinart’s right that presidents are usually rock solid for reelection if the economy’s improving on Election Day and The One still has plenty of time to make that happen.

But he surely doesn’t want to have to start from here:

o-issues

His best issue right now is Iran? Good lord. Meanwhile, his overall approval rating’s a scant +4 this month, the lowest yet recorded by FNC, but that’s less interesting than the polling on ObamaCare. The sample this time included more Republicans than the one Fox used last month when it got a slew of disastrous feedback on health care, so no surprise that some of the numbers this month have gotten even worse. Still, the split among indies on health care in the question asked above was … 36/53. More:

o-hc

o-current

That last question broke 46/37 last month; the spread’s actually growing as we get further into this clusterfark. Which probably isn’t enough to stop it, but enough to generate a GOP wave next year? Yeah, maybe. Especially if they go nuclear.

Blowback

Peter Beinart’s right that presidents are usually rock solid for reelection if the economy’s improving on Election Day and The One still has plenty of time to make that happen.

Didn’t help H W Bush. The economy was already improving in ’92, but it was far too late by then. The rule of thumb is that the economy has to be already established on an upswing for at least 12 months before an election in order for re-election to take place.

For Obama, he is already toast. Things will get worse in the near future, and in 3 years, things will have been so bad for so long, that he will have no chance. Dick Cheney would beat him in 2012 simply because he is not Obama.

That was also due to helpful framing by the media and Bush’s “no new taxes” screw job.

I think Obama will win in 2012, mainly because I think it’s near impossible to get rid of a sitting president unless he’s totally incompetent. Obama’s a socialist, but he knows his audience. And that counts for a lot.

lorien1973 on October 15, 2009 at 7:56 PM

Here’s more:

“Democrats tipped their hand in this election and demonstrated that their strategy to get their candidates elected is to have them run as Republicans,” Devaney said. “It seems that Democrats know they have to run as Republicans because the American people are rejecting policies being pushed by liberal Democrats at the local, state and federal levels.”

The loss is an embarrassment for state Democratic Party chair Chip Forrester, who won his job a year ago by boasting of his skills as a grassroots organizer. Forrester conceded before the voting that this low-turnout election, which emphasized the importance of identifying voters and getting them to the polls, would put his abilities to the test.

Note the bolded parts. This means that the strategy of “Blue Dog” no longer sells. Obama is going to be poison for all dems, especially Blue Dogs. This Dem. even got the “pro-life” endorsement, and his party identity was still enough to sink him. 2010 may be a political slaughter.

Weight of Glory on October 15, 2009 at 7:57 PM

Yeah, except that there is not single policy that he’s pushing that will do anything but tank the economy even further and faster. And, as much of the damage is psychological as it is actual. People know he’s a tax and spender…and when the unavoidable taxes do hit…oh boy! I’m thinking double-dip with a 10 year recovery cycle.

If they get politically weak enough that they haven’t crammed anything additional through, and people get the sense they won’t be able to in the future then it can get better. In the sense that it is better than it is now. I think right now a HUGE amount of government interference is being baked into the cake. Maybe less than there was a few months ago due to cratering poll numbers, but still I think most people expect an unprecedented amount. This is, in my view, a large reason why few businesses are not sticking their necks out and trying to grow. Everything is about reducing costs still. They know they are not out of the woods yeat. If the regulators aren’t after their line of business yet, they still could be soon. Financials are done for. Manufacturing is in uncle sugars hands for the short to medium term, at best. Health industry is fighting the battle of its life. If you’re not a taget now, you can still see a way you could be. Still best to be safe.

That starts to change if 2010 is a rout. If Obama and the libs become viewed as safely politically weak, then it is a possibility business can start to attempt to grow again. If that happens, then Obama will be trying to spin things his way (for the 2/3rd that don’t pay attention) by 2012.

500 billion in Medicare cuts has to be the worst political move since ruDy’s Florida strategy.

In fact, I’d say that their plan to anger the senior voters is probably the worst political move I’ve ever seen. If they pass this, it will be the end of them.

500 Billion in Medicare cuts (to pay for health care for young people who don’t need it).

These people are brilliant. They need a raise (of other people’s money of course).

No, he isn’t. What he’s doing is looking for more ways to hand out welfare. Such as this sop to the seniors with the $250 social security bonus.

The only way that the government can stimulate job creation is to get out of the way. This would require slashing taxes and regulation. That is so antithetical to 0bama as to be like showing Dracula the Cross.

Not going to happen.

Plus, what 0bama IS doing, with his massive spending, regulating, taking over whole industries, etc, is only making the natural recovery far FAR slower and weaker than it would have been. If NOTHING had been done the recession would have been over by now.

What’s worse, when the economy DOES get stronger, the poison of the hyperspending will trigger hyperinflation. Which is even worse for 0bama than sustained 10% unemployment.

Think it’s bad now? By 2012 it will be worse.

Low poll numbers isn’t a Waterloo.

However, this may be:

From Eric Dondero:

The story first broke this morning, on Don Suber’s blog, Bob McClarty’s site, and on World Net Daily.

Suber wrote:

I checked.

Apparently that is a true image from the June 24, 2004, Standard, which is Kenya’s oldest newspaper.

Meanwhile, AudacityofHypocrisy notes: link to this story. The news is now deleted from Kenya newspaper website.

Obots.org, the popular Left site that debunks Birther claims issued this curious statement later in the day:

Speculation abounds about how the birthers found this obscure article which doesn’t appear to be on any search engine, and it has been suggested that the article is a fake; but that’s not likely. More likely is the fact that Barack Obama (the President’s father) was born in Kenya just led to a little confusion. I mean after all, if folks today can’t find a shred of evidence to support the crazy idea the President was born in Kenya today, how could a newspaper back in 2004 have found anything (particularly when the article was just a small Kenya-twist embellishment on an AP story).

Libertarian Republican Contributing Writer and Internationally-syndicated Columnist JB Williams had this to say:

“They know it’s real… It’s a real publication. Yes, it’s been scrubbed [newspaper's archives], but they missed some. I pulled some other incriminating articles just today… most especially about Obama’s Muslim background and upbringing and ties to Odinga… there’s articles of people referring to Obama as America’s Odinga.”

Williams is doing further investigation, and promises to release his findings next week right here at LR.

If there is still a vote left by then. They are still funding ACORN… and they stuff the ballot boxes. They have to keep ACORN or it’s equivalent or they don’t’ win.

Folks at Hot Air it is easy to become jaded with the all the information and data that is thrown our way so that we do not digest the significance of this exquisite morsel. Folks I would invite you to take a step back from your hectic existence and focus, yes focus on what I am about to say:

1)52.9% of American voters voted for Obama in Nov. 2009; in a span of almost a year only 43% of American voters would vote for him now. This is NOT a favorable number but VOTING INTENTIONS. There is a huge difference. If you go into the Fox numbers further 10% of those who voted for Obama last November say they would vote for SOMEONE ELSE NOW, which corresponds exactly with Obama’s dropoff.

2)48% of American voters overall say they would vote for SOMEONE ELSE. The McCain-Palin ticket generated 45.7% of the vote. Would you say that at present the GOP potential nominee in 2012 has a shot to dethrone the Messiah. Sure 3 years is a long way off but hey HOPE is important in any future campaign.

3)Of independent voters only 35% of them would vote for Obama at present and 48% would vote for SOMEONE ELSE. Obama cannot win re-election with these kind of numbers with indies.

Again please digest these numbers. They are as important as any poll numbers in the past six months.

technopeasant on October 15, 2009 at 8:27 PM

Again… I can’t believe his numbers are still so high.

Obama has done more damage to the US than anything done for the past century. Three more years of this and we will be digging out of worst poverty than China or all of Africa.

The dollar is finished. The American dream died when Obama was elected.

petunia on October 15, 2009 at 8:31 PM

In fact, this could be Hot Air’s Waterloo as well. You are getting scooped by Eric Dondero.

Mr Purple on October 15, 2009 at 8:26 PM

As much as it would delight me to find the birthers are correct… I fail to see how HotAir is damaged by ignoring a story so convoluted as this one.

Yeah I’ve read some pretty good stuff… it always turns out to be wrong in the end.

I say the Honolulu newspaper’s birth announcement is better proof than anything out of Kenya.

But hey some Odingo stuff can’t hurt the cause.

But Hot Air is right to stay away.

The conspicuous absence of hopenchange bumper stickers is palpable. My theory is that they were chewed off in frustration by Libtards under the light of the full moon.

You see they were so ashamed in being duped that they didn’t want to be seen during daylight hours grinding their teeth on hard metal.

They have run up enormous bills for psychiatric counseling and cosmetic dentistry as well.

I almost feel like putting some unused hopenchange bumper stickers back on their hybrids to watch them grimace in pain as they are reminded of their folly while the neighbors whisper among themselves at the spectacle.

Geochelone on October 15, 2009 at 8:37 PM

It’s funny, even here, I won’t DARE put a conservative sticker on my car for fear of it getting keyed or worse. But, I do where anti-obama shirts. If they want to say something, bring it. I’ll be happy to tell them they are dumb as dirt.
Sorry dirt.

HornetSting on October 15, 2009 at 8:18 PM

I went through 3 McCain/Palin stickers that were pulled off my car.

Rush Limbaugh nailed it several months ago.

He compared to the “buyers’ remorse” of Obama voters to a woman who has been told by most of her friends not to marry the “jerk” but she goes ahead anyway and in 2 months realizes she made a huge mistake and should have listened to the people who told her so.

But her ego and pride will not permit her to tell the world how she truly feels until more time has passed, let say at year, and then when she dumps him and asks him for a divorce nobody can say she didn’t give it a chance.

Well petunia, the year is up and many who had buyers’ remorse in the spring 2009 are now showing their real colors. Expect more to expose themselves if Obama does not shape up.

petunia, this is a great start. Accept it for what is worth. You can’t expect to win every game by 3 touchdowns.

technopeasant on October 15, 2009 at 8:39 PM

It will be interesting to see how Americans react if Obamacare is passed in spite of the overwhelming opposition of the people.

GaltBlvnAtty on October 15, 2009 at 8:15 PM

I think they will ram it through.

Someone on TV today said there was another bill that was front loaded like this one where the taxes came first then the benefits and the congress was forced to repeal it when people where so unhappy about it.

So at least there’s that.

Republican Pat Marsh has won a special election to fill a vacated state House seat long held by Democrats.

That’s good for Tennessee, but what good does it do us?

lovingmyUSA on October 15, 2009 at 8:03 PM

Maybe indicates a trend. It’s a longtime blue district.

Well to follow the analogy… I hope his ex-supporters key his car!

petunia on October 15, 2009 at 8:43 PM

if the economy’s improving on Election Day and The One still has plenty of time to make that happen.

Which of Obama’s economic policies is going to bring about the turnaround?

ddrintn on October 15, 2009 at 8:41 PM

Well, then, that IS a good thing. I read that the election expands the GOP majority in the Tennessee House to 50 representatives (vs 48 Democrats). Win the War–one seat at a time–if that’s what it takes…

Nice post.

I can only speak for myself in that I am savoring this latest morsel of data like taste treats from the world’s finest French pastry. My tongue is way happy about it.

You analysis is correct and this bit of wholly objective news should not be passed over blithely without giving it prolonged and intense scrutiny.

Having examined it closely myself I can assure that this will cause irritable bowel syndrome among the sycophants in the media and among the seditious depraved souls in the WH.

That’s why I have a 2-way transmitter for my car alarm and a Kimber .45 ACP at my side. Bring it, non-2nd amendment libtards.

Did you get the model with the carry melt treatment and the rosewood colored Crimson Trace lasergrips? That thing is sweet. Actually, any Kimber is sweet. Some are just sweeter.
