Mediaite: You know who should host SNL? Glenn Beck
posted at 7:15 pm on October 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
Actually, it’s a brilliant idea.
Someone at 30 Rock needs to approach Glenn Beck and ask him to host SNL, pronto. They could use Beck’s opener today in lieu of an audition tape. The White House’s decision to treat Fox News as an opponent might just be the best gift Beck has ever received; between the red phone on set, the grip whose job it is to sit beside it in case the White House calls, the chalkboard, and Beck’s impressions, his opener this evening may have been the best 20 minutes of television you’ll see all day.
In the 45 second clip below, Beck channels Shakespeare, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and Fred Armisen as President Obama.
They’d eat boatloads of crap from the left for “legitimizing” Beck by letting him host, but let’s face it: Ratings would be stratospheric and he’s already been duly “legitimized” between the Time cover and the Katie Couric interview (not to mention the minor fact that his ratings are sometimes double the other three cable news nets combined). He’d probably jump at the opportunity, too. Remember, this is a guy who describes himself as a rodeo clown and who’s known to take a week off from his show to do politically flavored stand-up. How could he resist a shot at the big stage? He’s also someone who, to his credit, is willing to laugh at himself, so presumably he wouldn’t mind the endless jokes goofing on his show and his persona. Just imagine the Glenn Beck/Fred-Armisen-as-Obama Oval Office tete-a-tete. Imagine it.
Of course, if he keeps dumping on the show, it’s probably not going to happen.

Beck would rock it!
Dude … Beck is a natural for stuff like that.
I would definitely watch it. Probably the first time in over a decade.
darwin on October 14, 2009 at 7:18 PM
But would he want to do their material?
exception on October 14, 2009 at 7:20 PM
dude, that would be awesome!

Oh god yes please please please please please BOOK HIM

Brilliant move.
I haven’t watched SNL in years but I’d watch that one.

Hasn’t Polanski taught you anything? Just cause you’re popular doesn’t mean you’re legitimate.
Greenhelmet on October 14, 2009 at 7:23 PM
Screw SNL.
therightwinger on October 14, 2009 at 7:23 PM
It is a fantastic idea. Even if they just brought him in as a guest on their weekend update bit, the possibilities would be endless. I think Obama would have to hit rock bottom approval ratings before they ever decided to take that kind of risk, though.
stldave on October 14, 2009 at 7:23 PM
Why improve SNL ratings…?
Glenn is on a roll, keep it up!
Seven Percent Solution on October 14, 2009 at 7:23 PM
That would be awesome, and would likely be their highest rated show of the season.
You know he’d be up for making fun of himself, too. He could even do a side-by-side with the SNL actor that plays him.
BadgerHawk on October 14, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Today’s show was great.
Weight of Glory on October 14, 2009 at 7:25 PM
FABulous idea!
Yellowdog12 on October 14, 2009 at 7:25 PM
They could both do their Glenn ‘mocking voice’. It would be awesome.
BadgerHawk on October 14, 2009 at 7:26 PM
It would be the funniest SNL since George Carlin opened the first episode.
Mangy Scot on October 14, 2009 at 7:28 PM
The “beer summit” skit to end all skits.
MadisonConservative on October 14, 2009 at 7:28 PM
SNL will be awesome if Glenn Beck hosts. And who knows, he might even have Sarah Palin come on with him! Double the Awesomeness.
cubachi on October 14, 2009 at 7:29 PM
Bill Ayers would be better
faraway on October 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Forget Beck … get Rahm Emauel to guest host. Now there’s a charismatic figure. He could scream at the audience, tell them how much he hates them then rob them all before he leaves.
darwin on October 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Glenn shouldn’t waste his time to give ratings-boost to SNL
macncheez on October 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM
So Not Laughable should really need a visit by someone funny.
the_nile on October 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM
I agree. Probably the only host that could get me to tune into SNL these days. Ok, that’s not true, I’d tune in for Timberlake as well.
LastRick on October 14, 2009 at 7:31 PM
I must say that Beck was on fire today. A highly entertaining hour which is surprising to me because it was mostly a monologue and I usually prefer it when he has panel discussions.
Well done Glenn.
Daemonocracy on October 14, 2009 at 7:32 PM
It would be the funniest SNL episode since the early 90′s. DO IT ONBC!!!
Lance Murdock on October 14, 2009 at 7:34 PM
He could throw some F-bombs at the audience too.
Mangy Scot on October 14, 2009 at 7:34 PM
Even better, Fox needs their own comedy channel

You bet your sweet bippy
faraway on October 14, 2009 at 7:35 PM
Glenn should not dignify SNL by appearing on their show ..leave that to Huckabee
macncheez on October 14, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Come to think of it, SNL has never been hosted by a Nobel Prize winner
Sooooo…..
macncheez on October 14, 2009 at 7:39 PM
They won’t because he will easily outperform the SNL cast.
Can you imagine what an anemic frigid harpie he would make of Tina Fey? Oh wait, that wouldn’t be hard to do.
John the Libertarian on October 14, 2009 at 7:40 PM
And have the SEIU thugs beatup audience members who do not laugh at his jokes or applaud his singing
macncheez on October 14, 2009 at 7:41 PM
I’d watch it!
You know who would be an even better host? Allahpundit!
Andy in Agoura Hills on October 14, 2009 at 7:42 PM
Why would Glenn want SNL’s ratings to go up??? He’s doing great, why would he go on that turkey?? Just let SNL die the slow, agonizing death its been headed for for the last 10-15 years. Amen.
DanaSmiles on October 14, 2009 at 7:45 PM
I have a better idea – Fox should get rid of Wanda and give Glenn full reign on Network Fox to compete against Saturday Night Live.
JoeBrooks on October 14, 2009 at 7:45 PM
Phuk SNL.
moonbatkiller on October 14, 2009 at 7:45 PM
Wouldn`t the whole show be a sell for his book, Arguing With Idiots. He would never have a better chance to be completely surrounded by them.
bluemarlin on October 14, 2009 at 7:49 PM
Its time to can Shep and move Beck to 7pm.
Amadeus on October 14, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Now you are talking, then I could get home to see it sometimes.
bluemarlin on October 14, 2009 at 7:51 PM
Don’t forget to come up for air.
Amadeus on October 14, 2009 at 7:51 PM
It would be like one of those “do you remember where you were when…” moments.
Connie on October 14, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Beck wouldn’t stoop that low. Especially in light of how LAME-O-LISCIOUS the barack obama comedian is…. to get humor out of him is like pulling a catheter from a lucid male patient. With an audience of obama worshipping nurses.
Nah, Glenn wouldn’t stoop to that.
Key West Reader on October 14, 2009 at 7:53 PM
But that would screw up my routine of watching NCIS reruns at 7.
Connie on October 14, 2009 at 7:54 PM
No. I don’t want Glenn to be tainted by that taint…
HornetSting on October 14, 2009 at 7:55 PM
Well, he’s funnier than Jason Sudekis. But then, who isn’t?
Jim Treacher on October 14, 2009 at 7:57 PM
Now, there’s a thought! Hmmmmm.. Behind a black curtain and with a voice changer? (And no, AllahP, you can’t wear a Darth Vader helmet)… heck… I think that would be awesome.
But “N”uttin “B”ut “C”rap News… eh? They prolly wouldn’t go along with that type of scenario. SNL is a/k/a NBC Newz and NBC Newz is a/k/a SNL. Joke o Riffic!
Key West Reader on October 14, 2009 at 7:57 PM
You’re really good at begging. Are you an expert because the moose isn’t putting out or is it for a lottery ticket so you can get a doctor’s appointment?
HornetSting on October 14, 2009 at 7:58 PM
If SNL had Beck on, they would use that as an opportunity to lampoon Beck, and by extension, everybody to the right of barack obama. Beck would be crazy to go. What the left wants to do is to tear him down in the public eye. They want to destroy his credibility, simply to destroy the credibility of the message. And being lampooned on SNL would be how they would do that.
keep the change on October 14, 2009 at 7:59 PM
Shhhh, Katie Couric. You’re not supposed to let on about the implications of (cough) ObamaCare. Hush.
Key West Reader on October 14, 2009 at 8:00 PM
By SNL I’m thinking you also meant the MSM. NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN… all comedy. All the time.
Key West Reader on October 14, 2009 at 8:02 PM
Only if Beck writes his own material.
meci on October 14, 2009 at 8:03 PM
Uh, did you just call me Katie Couric? Does Katie Couric have an Indian Headdress? Does she where coconut oil at all times? We all know she wears a thong and it is two sizes too tight…….
HornetSting on October 14, 2009 at 8:03 PM
I think Beck could take ‘em. He destroyed Couric rather handily.
Black Yoshi on October 14, 2009 at 8:03 PM
Nah. Bad idea.
SNL isn’t worth watching anymore, it would only take Beck down. It’s not a cred builder, the show is a pathetic joke, no pun intended.
Spiritk9 on October 14, 2009 at 8:04 PM
Who’s Wanda?
Cindy Munford on October 14, 2009 at 8:06 PM
No, babe… I would NEVER call you Katie Couric. That’d be like calling you a bad word. Katie Couric is like Rachael Ray. With News!
You’re a badass. That’s a good thing. (Martha Stewart)
Key West Reader on October 14, 2009 at 8:09 PM
I kept picturing Rahm and Barry watching his show today, yelling, cursing and giving him the finger.
Beck is so far inside their pathetic heads. Such fun.
fogw on October 14, 2009 at 8:12 PM
Beck would be a perfect host of SNL! Recently back from a trip, my college-age daughter said ALL the kids (20 – 25 year olds) were talking about Beck; they love his show!!
TN Mom on October 14, 2009 at 8:14 PM
Beck would be terrible…
ninjapirate on October 14, 2009 at 8:16 PM
They could have a beer summit skit and the four of them could be drinking this around the table in the White House Garden:
http://www.becksbeer.com/lda.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx
Although Beck quit drinking years ago, it would be humorous, maybe work in Glenn getting some royalties.
dthorny on October 14, 2009 at 8:17 PM
….You almost lost your opportunity to see my yearly pilgrammage to Key West to dance on your lawn.
HornetSting on October 14, 2009 at 8:19 PM
Well, Rupert Murdoch is looking at buying NBC..more clowns than Ringling Brothers.
dthorny on October 14, 2009 at 8:21 PM
I’d like to see it. Can’t imagine the BHO network going for it, though. Maybe after Murdock buys it!
EconomicNeocon on October 14, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Hey, if nothing else, it would be fun to see if Glenn could sneak down during rehearsal breaks from Studio 8H to Keith’s six floors below in the GE building and leave little notes on his teleprompter.
jon1979 on October 14, 2009 at 8:29 PM
I wish Fox would do Beck reruns against SNL’s time slot instead. We’d get to catch up on Beck and not give SNL jack-squat.
indypat on October 14, 2009 at 8:31 PM
For those HA readers that are TV challenged such as I (TV not connected to the outside world, DVDs only), and also GB fans, I offer this site which generally puts up the full show each day several hours after it airs. Side benefit….no commercials.
GnuBreed on October 14, 2009 at 8:55 PM
By his own admission, Glenn Beck is a big comedy fan and nerd. I mean c’mon? How many pundits do you know have founded a comedy magazine? His annual touring stage shows are also a great comedy outlet for the man.
I would imagine guest hosting on SNL would be a career highlight for him. Glenn Beck is a born entertainer. Don’t know how much of the show’s content he could steer. Heck, if Beck’s star continues to rises. Fox should revive the ‘Half Hour newshour’ format and get Beck to write his own sketch show for full creative control.
http://punditfight.blogspot.com/2009/04/stand-up-comedian-glenn-beck-2009.html
PunditFight on October 14, 2009 at 9:01 PM
How about if Rupert Murdoch gave Beck his own comedy show on Saturday night at oh, around 11:30?
Then what? Huh?
Scarbarian on October 14, 2009 at 9:04 PM
SNL’s ratings would jump…imagine the material they have to play around with. They would need a different comedian to play Obama though.
This guy does a good Obama.
Dr Evil on October 14, 2009 at 9:05 PM
SNL doesn’t have the balls.
JohnJ on October 14, 2009 at 9:07 PM
Hmmmm.
Beck would probably be the best host SNL has had in years.
I imagine him as Dr. Strangelove … but with a bit of a twist as he would be in Obama’s administration.
It would be the first time I’ve watched SNL in over 2 decades.
memomachine on October 14, 2009 at 9:16 PM
These alphabet triplets you mentioned? I … haven’t heard of them before. Are they some local station where you live?

why give NBC any money or ratings? hell with em….I wouldn’t buy a GE appliance if it was the last thing on earth…

(May not still be #1 hardcover)

Beck’s hotline for the White House is fantastic.
Did everyone see that Beck had a registered letter sent to the White House today to make sure that they had the hotline number?
I think Beck should begin a daily feature in which he points out a lie. He should be provoking them at every turn.
BuckeyeSam on October 14, 2009 at 9:34 PM
I’d watch or at least DVR it – I work Sat nights. I haven’t watched SNL for so many years except for the random clips that get posted every now and again.
froginthesky on October 14, 2009 at 9:44 PM
He should have a digital clock , ticking away the time elapsed since he put up the phone vs number of calls received from the Whine House
macncheez on October 14, 2009 at 9:53 PM
This is a great idea… would get insane ratings
painfulTruthDisciple on October 14, 2009 at 10:16 PM
Beck’s show is much funnier than SNL. SNL, except for 2 or 3 people, hasn’t been funny since the original crew all left.
Jeff from WI on October 14, 2009 at 10:21 PM
I almost died of laughing today at that part of Beck’s show today.
He is really ripping the man-child and his administration.
Sapwolf on October 14, 2009 at 10:31 PM
Beck owes me a monitor for his Olbermann & Matthews impersonations. Mine is still covered in coffee and it went up my nose.
Jeff from WI on October 14, 2009 at 10:33 PM
How about Beck goes on SNL and plays himself and the red phone rings and it’s Sarah Palin on the other side.
He asks her how she got the number, and she says one of her spies in the White House got it off Anita.
She tells Glenn that her spy confirmed they were never gonna call anyway and that well…she just couldn’t let the taxpayers’ money go to waste.
“So anyway, how’s it going Glenn? Wow, your ratings are really skyrocketing. The wife holding up? Todd just can’t stop laughing with you on the TV.”
Sapwolf on October 14, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Glenn is bigger, better than SNL.
publiuspen on October 14, 2009 at 11:00 PM
Beck would be a hit in the ratings, would kill in the comedy, and would likely bring more than a few converts back with him to his show. I’d watch.
But as a regular gig, Fox should put up Red Eye reruns against SNL…smarter, hipper, and funnier, and with more camera friendly brainy females on the show.
ornery_independent on October 15, 2009 at 1:05 AM
Such a genius idea.
And he would be funny also.
AprilOrit on October 15, 2009 at 1:15 AM
This man’s no joke.
It would ‘behoove’ us to take what he’s saying more seriously.
I haven’t been finding too much of anything really funny over the last year. Starting to accept my Comrade/slave of the State role.
Dr. ZhivBlago on October 15, 2009 at 2:22 AM
I have the ‘good fortune’ of working in the entertainment industry (in talent representation) and we had a client work on the show and it’s a pretty standard contract provision that the guest host gets final say over ANY of the skits on the show that they appear in…SNL of course doesn’t like to advertise that; however that’s why some guest hosts who you think will get grilled get soft-balled. (so yeah, it’s not ALWAYS the writer’s being horrible that is to blame for the general un-funny nature of the show lately)
Sometimes even the skits they don’t appear in if they are a big enough star. (I don’t think Beck would qualify in that category just yet)
MannyT-vA on October 15, 2009 at 5:12 AM
Highest ratings ever.

Let them come on BECK’S show, he will rule soon, and they will all be begging to be there.
